This is a great system. I've been using Maschine and Bitwig for a couple years and I've found some helpful ways to use them together, but your methodology is on a whole other level. This is a really great way of preserving the best parts of the Maschine songbuilding workflow while also getting around it's more limited arrangement and mixing capabilities. Thanks for sharing, this is a game changer!
There is so much great info here, The mashine info is really good on many levels so big thanks for the time and effort in making the video. I use the machine mk3 in my setup I love the pads and the easy access to controls and being able to work on my own patterns then drop them into bitwig is a good groove for me. The 2 hour length was fine by me as I am not only using maschine now but saving a lot of time. Thank you, NI should really pick up on this integration it makes a huge difference to the usability of maschine.
I’ve been wanting a video like this for a couple years now. I’ve been using both of these, but I haven’t found a workflow that I liked. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
Great video. I have been gravitating towards Bitwig these last few months, having felt a bit lost with it over the years, even though I've had Bitwig since 1.0. Of late, I have increased my efficiency with Ableton Live 11, which has allowed me to better understand the benefit and edge you can get with Bitwig in key areas of synths/sequencing. Now, I've only ever used Maschine in software form, having the Maschine Mikro as hardware for it. But, as it happens, I have also been digging into Maschine 2, of late, at a micro level, exploring the raw basis on which the content is set, and this video has just set my brain alight! Fantastic content, Baphometrix!
Thank you ❤, perfect tutorial. If possible it would be great to have the ability to download this template, both bitwig and the maschine routing settings?
Thanks a lot for this. Still haven't watched, but it's good to know there's content like this. I've been considering a Maschine for almost 3 years, in the search for a consistent all-in-one controller to fit in my budget (Push 2 is hella expensive here). Since Bitwig is one of my favorite DAWs, this vid might be a turning point for my production workflow. Cheers!
This video deserves a million views. I was ready to sell MK3 because of my frustration to integrate MK3 into a DAW. I can't thank you enough for this video. I also enjoyed your music theory video. Your teaching style really resonates with me helping me to understand the how AND why of the content. I look forward to more content. THANK YOU!!
!USSY. hahah....you bought a 600 dollar controller lacking the ability to integrate it. zomg dude sorry ,but thats weak. Maschine works great with every DAW ive tried. stick to Ableton...its tardo proof ;)
This course is excellent i did it and its beyond just selcting clip you like. I think de purpose is to learn how separates elements from a sound is mixed and processed like a pro. Thank you my friend it helps a ton.
Great tutorial, thanks for sharing all the your know how. I'm kinda new to electronic production so I've been combing for as much info as I can get. This solved a lot of issues for me as I'm still figuring out how to get everything to play nice together. Just purchased Bitwig Studio 5 and have Maschine for a few months. Thumbs up!!
I am so glad I found this. My concerns before I go all out on another DAW are these: I have tried tirelessly to integrate Maschine2 with Ableton. I am running the vst3 and routing 16 tracks into 16 external instrument tracks. I have since disabled delay compensation as it was only messing with the sequencer (it should already be synced!) I want JUST AUDIO to come from maschine into Ableton so that I may process it. Little did I know I would be spending most of my time figuring out monitoring latency/combing from bad communications between Ableton and Maschine. I have no know. You might not even know it’s happening. Is there ANY monitoring latency happening in this setup? Will I be able to play (live) along sequenced drums all from maschine, and will I be able to process these sounds without any additional latency? I only use 0 latency plugins to make sure it stays in sync, and since delay comp has been disabled this is a must. Hope you understand what I’m asking. I’m at a breaking point with these integrations but if this works 100% no combing no latency I will splurge and sell Ableton. Much love
you really havent understood anything at all and you are compülaining about things that arent there at all, again. this is all super easy in any daw, you need to learn how a daw works.
dUDE, THANK YOU JUST GOT A MASCHINE AND I WANT TO DO IT ON MY SPARE LAPTOP... what Linux distro are you using? i haven't watched the entire vid quite yet ;)... Interesting about the expansions... I have komplete 12 and they wont let me use it.
Thanks again for another great video! Really like that workflow, but my Intel Macs CPU is going crazy and it's all super lacking while using multiple groups. Any tipps and tricks on this? Which hardware are you using so it's all running smoothly?
I've never known/checked how to use the NI expansions before and this video has inspired me to explore. Cheers Baphy! I'm half way through the video and couldn't resist having a play. It's true, there are a lot of cool textures to be made by combining the grooves from different kits. I use Logic as well as Bitwig, so noticed that it is actually possible to move notes around the piano roll with alt + arrow keys, as that's a standard logic command :)
I don't have time atm Baphy, but I'm an owner of Maschine Mikro 3, who's never got on with the software or hardware. Yet, I really appreciates the expansions sound quality and I own many! I'll be coming back to this and watching every minute while making notes. Hoping to see some info on setup and your routing structure and busses (listen buss for example) which is probably incidental and what your always do. EDIT ...Mind you, scanning through the chapters there's so much setup help there! Many thanks as always.
This is really good, and thank you for taking the time to make this video!! Brand new (4 days) Bitwig 4 user here, 20+ year cubase user looking to try a new DAW. I'm frustrated with Steinberg and really want to learn a new DAW, and I think this is it. One problem I'm having - I copied your config identically and built the pitch transpose into the chain, etc. I can write midi notes to the arranger, I can play back midi notes and hear audio from Maschine, but no matter what I do I cannot record live midi notes coming in from Maschine. Every other midi device I have including several synths worked just fine inside Bitwig, and worked immediately. I can read/write midi any way I want. But I've tried every routing method I know of for both Maschine and within Bitwig, and Bitwig just doesn't see the notes coming from Maschine. The piano roll triggers notes, but I cannot record them. I've been searching the internet for 2 days, posting in KVR and on Native Instruments, but so far I've found nothing on exactly this problem. Some folks are telling me I should use Driven By Moss scripts to control Maschine / MK3 from Bitwig, but I feel like there has to be a more minimal solution to just getting Maschine working as a live recording device like I have it inside cubase. In cubase I can route groups or sounds in any way I want, and it all works including live recording. If you (or anyone reading this) has any specific live recording tips for Maschine + Bitwig I would love to hear them. I'm on a trial license for Bitwig right now and have 3 weeks remaing, and if I can get 100% of my instruments working in Bitwig, I plan to pay for a license. If I can't, I probably won't be buying it. Thsbks!!
Exhausted this is awesome I must say I only just got bigwig 5 so as I’m new to it the modules are different with regards to how they look like no little dots and other work issues I had so thus in all whilst following took me nearly all day but it was worth it so a huge big big thanks and a great thanks for the clip to zero series you done many moons back that’s how I came across you so now I am a biting user I’ll be searching your channel for more tips but anyone watching just follow it this way doesn’t work with no other daw and I have all of them
When I drag the midi clips to Bitwig and play it everything is fine. But when I want to record in Maschine say at channel 16 something via the controller in the Maschine GUI it records the other MIDI Notes into it. Why is that ? Respectively is there a way to not create 16 Channels every time I want to drop the files into Bitwig ? thx
Damn - that's pretty cool. Im old in Maschine and new to Bitwig. I love many of the Extensions in Maschine and sometimes I rebuild it in Bitwig... But now I will follow your tutorial to put it in Bitwig in this way. Many many Thanks from Germany.
Your method is great how it takes advantage of Bitwigs superior piano roll, but at the expense that it is not possible to layer Maschine groups as they all share Ch 1 to 16. Because of this, I wonder why even have multiple groups at all? Seems more practical to focus on one group per Maschine instance?
Watched most of it. Incredible content. I'm new to bitwig. So with your setup you had each sound in Maschine going to a different midi track/clip in Bitwig? Would it not be better to hit ctrl+a to select all sounds in the group and have them all within one clip? I'm going to watch it again.
You can also add a channel map to individual locations on a drum kit and rename them. Thank you for the tutorial, I'm working through it right now! Very good information. I've created this as a drum preset now and will be saving the templates for main tutorial soon.
Ok So that didnt work at all. But maybe i can just bounce my sounds down into a kit if i want to transfer into looping strictly inside bitwig. more expiramenting

Thank you for this video which prompted me to buy bitwig. However, when showing "add channel map" it doesn't show up for me like you've shown in the video.
Oh, wow this video was only six months ago. From the issues, streamer was listing, the reasons to use both machine and Ableton led me to believe it was quite a few versions of years ago. I’ve been able to do most of what I recall you listing as a benefit with only Ableton and push for over three years now. Ableton had a lot of inadequacies when it came to midi, but version 10 and 11 and honestly some of nine if I remember was working on point, as far as I can tell. Very possible I’m not understanding the minutia of your method, but everything you mention about getting data from Live to Bit Ive been able to do with either a 3$ app to create automated virtual channels between the two daws or just with Live itself and Push. Do you think you’ll ever go over a tutorial of this method rather than just cutting in with it already set up? I’m really interested to see what I’m missing.
I have one problem if anyone could help me out pleeeaase! My midi controller keyboard is playing all midi channels at once . How do you set up your midi controller to not play these notes?? Otherwise awesome way to work with maschine
Maschine was my first To-Go DAW before I moved over to Ableton. As a Maschine+ user at live gigs, I sometimes create projects in Maschine that I move over into Ableton, by using the Maschine VST version. I love to combination. Very fast prototype capabilities.
i upgraded from Ableton to Maschine actually, which is better hardware ...i run it inside Logic Pro though....best of both worlds...Ableton etc i keep for messing around, but it's too dated.

This works great for getting the drum patterns out of Maschine and into Bitwig to be manipulated. Only thing that doesn't transfer of course is automations, which mostly affects those melodic lines. That's an unfortunate limitation of Maschine.
I have a very old video (nearly 4 years now), waaaayyyy at the bottom of my "Producer Tutorials" playlist. So it's relevant to Ableton 9 and something like Bitwig 3.2?

Thanx for the video. I am building it now. You can copy a group. Right-click on Group A1 copy. Right-click exactly on the + sign of the next group. Paste.
I believe you can also hold Alt/Option click on a chain in a group, and a drag a copy out below it. This also works with devices, MIDI, and automation points. I'm not sure which key it is on Windows.
Doesn't matter. When you use Maschine with a computer as a standalone or as a VST inside another DAW, Plus and MK3 are exactly the same device. The differences only come out, when you use Plus as a standalone without any computer involvement, as that is THE thing the MK3 can't do. So, whether you own Plus or MK3 or are planning to buy one, everything in this video should work the same. Hope this helped.
I love your content, but imagine being someone trying to start at the beginning? There's absolutely no indication anywhere where the START of your CTZ series is? You've got a succinct layout to all the updates...and the source material is hidden.
I have a playlist called "Mixing Loud with CTZ". The episodes are numbered in order. Every episode in the series has a link to that playlist in the video description. Including this one! 😉
Also, I'm half way through the video for my first listen (Planning on switching from Logic to bitwig because of the downfall of Apple in my own view and not wanting to be locked into their ecosystem much longer). Do you use your Maschine hardware at all? You mentioned the "sitting in your closet" thing. If it's made redundant by the midi workflow in bitwig is it even worth hanging onto or better off selling? I never found my MK3 to integrate particularly well with Logic despite routing as 16 channels and other methods. As well, do you use a midi keyboard? If so, which one?
An interesting concept, but even so, Machine 2 is still terrible, it directly screams man buy a controller or you will suffer. A lot of professional artists use this tool with a controller, I don't think it's just because of the ads or that they are idiots, I have only the vst plugin, got it with the audio interface, but working with it gives me physical pain, I have Geist Lite from 2014(!) and it just destroys Machine 2 in terms of usability, even with all the restrictions. Machine 2 has a lot of unique features, but everything is overshadowed by how inconvenient it is to call and use them.
@@blaablaa22 thank you for the info! Higly appreciated.
@20:57 - hey man great video but those are 16ths not a flam!
THANK YOU!
Ctrl Drag duplicates a Group with routing intact.
Machine Version?
You were able to finish your movie before this thing happened..
There's a master pitch control on mashine
True. But if you pitch a melody up or down in Maschine - it speeds up or slows down no?
@@davidringo9238 Probably but if the samples are all short one shots that shouldn't be noticable.
I'm sorry, but I don't need a half assed mini daw in a much more fleshed out DAW. Also, I have no desire to support native instruments.
Honest question, but what did NI do? Did I miss something? I haven't bought anything from them in years.
3h
you've convinced me i cant b rsed with machine
weak....
Expansion? guess you're part of the reason NI has gone down hill lately...
Routings and pointless waste of time is what NI are all about.
Hi baphy i wrote you a message on facebook and Instagram, hope you will read it. Thanks a lot.
