Congratulations Rory. Great to see you on the way to achieving your dream. Can't wait for the next video.
Cheers Sue! Next instalment coming soon x
When putting posts in the ground it is best to place a layer of gravel for the post to rest on , set the post and then pour gravel around it. Encasing the post with concrete will only lead to premature rotting of the post. When a post is encased in concrete the post shrinks making a space for water to collect which cannot escape. The post becomes saturated which promotes wood fungi which leads to rot. For added protection the post below grade should be coated with an asphaltic foundation coating.
Thanks for the advice Gary.
The posts were set onto a gravel bed below before concrete was poured, and treated H5. Tried my best to build everything to code, hopefully will be ok for many decades without the additional coating. Will research it further before putting in any posts for the decking 👍🏼
@@rorymackay1489 The thing with pressure treatment is it may not fully penetrate to the heartwood and if you cut pressure treated lumber the cut should be field dressed with a preservative sealer. Research using foam around your posts. The utility companies use this method for their power line poles as it helps to seal the wood against water. If you use gravel around your post be sure to compact it in layers. In sandy soil use the foam instead of pea gravel. If you use concrete around the post make sure the top is above grade and sloped. Fill a jar with pea gravel and note the height. Now wiggle the jar and note how the gravel self compacts. The thing is even a slight wiggle over time will compact gravel around a post in normal soil and it still allows water to percolate thru it. You will have to research what I have said and decide for yourself on what is best.
Can't believe how straight and true all of your timber looks.....buy 10 pieces here and 3 are warped/bent/twisted....nice job! 👍
Tried my best to keep the timber frame ridged, straight and true. Thanks for the kudos!
ALL that WORK! Though, it's lookin' nice.🙂
Would I be able to have a look please? Your playlist has inspired my building journey from a sports journey, suffered career ending injuries and want to dream big still. Chur man
Legend Paddy, yeah can do
Hey you nailed the nogs the aussie way! Smh
Cool project lol exciting to see your progress!
Loving these kinds of videos can’t wait for part2 👍 new sub 😊
Thanks for subscribing! Part 2 coming up :)
So cool to see a New Zealand cabin building video. Would this suit a high wind zone? I want to build something like this in Wairarapa
Was built to code for high wind zone, but in reality there is little wind where this cabin is. If it was in a genuinely windy location, I might have used more bracing and nails in joints.
매우 간결하고 멋지네요 🎉
Gamsa!
Doesnt seem to be 2.4 wall height? 125mm foundation posts? What is the exterior dimensions? Thanks for sharing.
125mm posts if I recall correctly, the cabin footprint is approximately 3600 x 2400mm
Hi, I want to build a cabin, do you have a list of things I would need please, even the sizes of the nails lol, really new to it, watching your video was great!
Great vid. Looking forward to the next video. Plywood cladding? - Board and batten?
Thanks! Plywood cladding on now, making next video currently
Class man
Where did you get it from did you buy it as a kitset?
I designed and quantity surveyed myself
Which software platform did you use to design your plans?
Sketchup
@@rorymackay1489 What did it cost you this cabin project and what size ( sqm) is it ? Great job 👏👍👌
@@Aupm-1 Thanks very much! 12m sq, costing over 10k NZD so far
Hey where did you get the plans from?
Hey Kieran, I designed it all myself
BOM DIA ! Pra mim é uma honra esta aqui te prestigiando, vamos sempre juntos somar e fortalecer nossos trabalhos, eu já estou por aqui.
Muchas gracias compañero
Hey mate, do you have the plans for this?
Gday Paddy, let me know your email or best way to contact u and will assist 🤙🏼
@@rorymackay1489 keen on plans too if possible, great build!
I’ve never seen pink lumber before. What is that?
New Zealand Red Stag Pine, common place here
@Northern-BC-Life The pink is from the borer treatment coating the timber. not the colour of the lumber. Common framing material in NZ.
@@JW-wz8du Thanks! What borers are there in NZ? I imagine this would include ants.
Goggle simple questions like that. :)@@ShikokuFoodForest
