I took my little grandson to a BB King performance. He went up to get a pick when BB King started to pass them out from stage. Kids (and adults) pushed the little guy out of the way way and grabbed until he ran out. Mr King stopped him as he was coming back all depressed and handed him the one he used in the show, then turned around and yelled for another pick to be brought out. I can never for get that. My grandson still has the pick, the photo we took and the ticket in a frame.
Sitting in his dressing room, back stage in Perth with just my girl and the King, will forever be one of the most memorable moments of my life. The humble man opposite blew me away by his willingness to sit and talk the blues with a fan. The greatest blues player on the planet took time out to chat to a fan when others would have been in the limo and half way to the hotel, and not once did he try to hustle me out. There are a few other great names in the blues world that cold learn from his humbleness and gratitude. RIP the King.
I saw B. B. less than a year before he passed. Surf Ballroom and I was in line 2 hours before the door opened. They allowed you to stand by the stage and I was 20 feet from him. His band did a set before he came out, then the King came out. He played. He talked. Played some more and told some stories. We all sang together on his closing song. 'You are my sunshine.' For a little over an hour, you knew what it felt like to be in the presence of greatness. I miss him. I miss the music.
Back when I didn’t know the difference between blues and jazz ( looong ago) I loved Mr. BB King. I am a white girl with a blues heart and Mr. King was the reason. It amazes me still each time I hear his music. I could go on, but I have to wonder how there could be even one down vote from this post. The jealous few who can’t stand the success of another is all I can attribute that to. We Love You Mr. BB, and always will. You know there is one hell of a band in heaven with him among them.
Just found this channel. For me a beautiful moment when BB plays with Pavarotti BB so humble to the great tenor voice..BB synonymous with the blues lived for 3 weeks on his own aged 9 parents dead. BB's message to the world terrific. Joe calls him Mr King throughout the ultimate respect. Now JB flies the blues flag and does it superbly. I guess it is about telling stories BB King told great stories and now Mr Joe Bonamassa tells those great stories in his way and tells his his own great stories. Happy to know Blues Lives
I saw BB in Nashville at the Ryman, not long before he passed. He was very confused, would start a tune, then stop and introduce a couple of band members he had just introduced... he never completed a tune, the cool thing was, he had the crowd totally behind him the whole time, and it was cool seeing him... then Buddy Guy came out and literally killed it, and gave it his all, I think partly making up for his good friend’s off night, and it was awesome.... great night.
You are one lucky man to have played with BB Kimg while you were still a kid. I got to see BB King 3 times . I’ll always love him. You are absolutely phenomenal Joe Bonamassa. Thank you for the outstanding tribute.
Anyone that get's praised by the absolute GOAT BB, will always prosper. Joe was a child prodigy that proved BB was right. At his age, still on the scene as the arguably best Les Paul player in the world...shows you the vision that BB had.
Never seen you live but you have made me cry and rejoice at the pure beauty of you reaching your Dreams, “peace to your soul my friend I’ve never known.”……..
Thanks Joe Bonamassa for sharing this with the world, and for the 15 that didn;t like this all I can say is that they don't know the Blues. RIP BB KING
Man! I grew up in St. Louis, Mo. Muddy waters, BB King, Howln Wolf, and a host of others from the south. The Delta Blues. Brother I don`t know where the hit you but you got It. I remember the video with BB King 15yrs ago and thought nothing about, but here you are. The Blues, you got It, my brother, you got It.
A lovely tribute to B. B. King, Joe. Thank you for this memorable video story. I am B.B.'s No. 1 Fan. Actually got to go backstage one time! Way to go! He will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Love your music also.

Blues Boy gave you a stage and eventually you took the world as your stage, and made it yours. I knew time for BB was growing short, but the torch he carried has sparked ten thousand embers which have been kindled into the next generation of blues. Some embers died out and others like yours have become an inferno of greatness. Great tribute Mr Joe!

If you gave this a thumbs down, you don’t know anything about real music and real talent. The world would be a much nicer place with more people like B.B. King in it. Thanks for everything B.B.
The first time I saw a video of 12 year old Bonamassa, I was brought to tears to see such talent coming out of such a young kid. A couple nights ago watched Joe's concert at the Greek Theater for the umpteenth time, again brought to tears when he played BB's Hummingbird, partly because of his masterful playing and partly because BB is gone and it's one of the best songs ever. Got to see BB twice, once around 1989 and again during his 80th birthday tour. I am still kicking myself because I didn't go up and meet him at the first one, which was at a small outdoor venue and would have been easy to do and I'm not shy about meeting celebrities. Must have been temporarily out of my mind, didn't take my camera either!
Great tribute Joe, it was BB King who introduced me to the blues many, many years ago. Saw your show a couple of years ago. Fantastic to have you on board the blues train. Thank you so much for all you do.
This is a wonderful tribute to your friend. I loved listening to his guitar. He certainly had an influence. Thanks for posting this. You will be missed B.B.
Joe Bonamassa Blues playing is like when you go into a Mexican food restaurant ran by white people you get what you ordered but it's just not authentic and Bland
I love Joe, IM A OLD HIPPY BLUES FAN. I saw BB three times the last at DPAC just before he passed. What a gentleman. At the end of the show he would pull up a chair, talk, shake hands and hand out candy. Miss him much😥
Haven't seen this video in a while , thought I would remember the music World lost an Icon of Blues when B.B. King , went to the Blues Club in Heaven to play with all the great musicians we have lost over the years. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Aretha Franklin, Jeff Healey and many more. Thanks for the memories , B. B. & Joe
R.I.P to the godfather of electric blues! Beautiful tribute Joe, good on you for remembering and recognizing his support to your career. We've lost a true hero but his music will live on forever!
Stunningly !!! Young Joe and his friend and teacher, were so great and so cool ! Joe said wonderful and kind words to the great B.B.King and dedicated his music to him...Joe paid his tribute to the Great musician...
Joe what a wonderful tribute to the KING your music has inspired me to appreciate the Blues as a form of expressing ones life. Thank You Joe your music puts me in a good mood everytime I listen to it

Got to see BB when I lived i in N Calif Was only 2 rows back from stage at a beautiful winery. Just a thrill! Also got to see Clapton same summer but terrible seats at Concord Pavilion. Badly designed w/ columns blocking view! Glad I was there though. Another thrill of a lifetime. Thank you for enriching my life gentlemen!!
B.B. King was the first real blues player I ever heard when I was 11 yrs. old. I had been listening to Creedence on the radio (Fogerty and His band were fairly new at the time) and their song ended so I switched stations. I heard a few almost unearthly guitar riffs with an odd finger trill like nothing I had heard before, then a really emotional singing voice...Yes, BB King playing "The thrill is gone". How did I never hear this tune before?, I thought. I'm a geezer of 65 now, and through the years I have acquired a lot of luthier knowledge, built hundreds of electric guitars, studied and taught a lot, tried almost every wiring scheme possible, cut bodies from nearly every type of wood, listened to tens of thousands of artists, been in countless bands, and all the things a normal kid does. One day I had a strange realization...John Fogerty was playing in a rather BB King style. Oh well, in the '70's I had been studying the playing style of My all-time favorite player, The late great Rory Gallagher; a few of His songs caused My ears to pick out a little bit of the master, BB King...The list goes on and on. BB influenced SO MANY people. I went to a Walter Trout show (another great guy, (and good friend)) and Walter came out for the first tune, paused and said He was very sad tonight and REALLY had the blues..."We lost BB King today". I got home later, pulled out My ES-355 and played "The thrill is gone" and put that fiddle back in its case. That was a very sad day. RIP, Big Guy. Love, -Smythie
thank you for sharing Joe. That was just so well done and really struck a nerve. I am just recently come to enjoy BB King even more than ever. He was a remarkable man and musician. God Bless him and RIP.
Almost passed this little tribute to BB but then to see Joe on stage too! Absolutely couldn't pass up paying my respects to a man who not only gave the world his own interpretation of the blues that inspired generations of guitarists. No way I can name them all but some of the most notable, Les Paul, Alvin Lee, Dwayne Almond, Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and I gotta give Stevie Ray Vaughan. Guess I gotta top it off right now with Joe Bonnamassa who no doubt has proven to be a dedicated bluesman through and through! Thank You Joe for this awesome tribute! Much LnR
Nice tribute from one master to another Joe. RIP B.B, King; the Blues, his music and the Legend lives on in his recordings, those that he mentored and in our minds.
I don't know how you can rate one superb artist against any other. Each is at the top of their own game. Certainly BB was always at the top of his game.
Nice tribute. I saw B.B. King perform just one time...back @1990...at Jones Beach//long island-n.y....along with John Lee Hooker, Etta James and the Robert Cray band. B.B. ended up doing a short set due to rain...whooo-ey! Jam packed classic performance in @ 6 songs.
The Blues is like your Heartstrings playing the deeply moving score to everywhere your battered Heart and Soul has been...it UNITES us all. If you love the Blues...imho...you've had some!!!
I looked up the release date of " The Thrill is gone" and is was June of '69 ..That made me 5 years old when I first heard the song and begged my mom for a guitar ...I got one for Christmas that year . I probably saw Joe for the first Time in '89 or so on a TV show when he was 12 and thought I might as well quit ..LOL . Ive bought sold and traded a lot of guitars over those years and enjoyed playing each one . I love the blues because of B.B and I became Joe's fan since he was 12 ..You rock Joe .
I saw BB King in October 2005..front row at the Waterbury Palace Theater... he threw some plastic pins of "Lucille" on stage and I was lucky enough to get one... He and his band were an absolute epic experience! And tip of the hat to "JJ" joe bonnamossa.
He would’ve even been prouder of you than he already was before he passed. The glee in his expressions surely showed how proud he was and able to rest knowing you’d be carrying the torch,
Ça me rappel moi quand j'étais petit ! Incroyable ! A 13 ans, avec un an de guitare, devant 5000 personnes... Une époque mémorable quand on est gamin :) Et du bb king à fond dans ma chambre tous les jours.
I got to see BB KING in Rochester,ny at the lilac festival tent. I got to stand less than 10 feet from him all night. He was awesome and a great showman along with being a gentleman. RIP BB you are and were one of greatest ever. But now it is Joe's turn because he is now a legend.
I saw you open for B.B. King at the Capital Center for The Arts Concord, NH. I can't remember the year, but it was the first show of the newly renovated venue. I remember thinking that you were probably more influence by SRV because of the Cowboy Hat and the speed of your playing.
I was born in 67 - the "Summer of Love"Rochester, New York.... Anyways, some time around 1990, 1991 or 1992 ( my memory fails me), Rochester, New York -- Lilac Festival concert around 9 pm it was dark, I lived on Monroe Avenue and Rowley Street at the time and I remembered wanting to run home and get my "Live at Cook County Jail LP for him to autograph!!", I had just bailed out of Monroe County Jail Here is -a Paisano shout-out to (corporal at the time), Mike Scarpulla and Deputy Charlie Macaluso!!---WHASSS UP!!), All of the Italian Deputies knew my family.. (actually my notorious Uncle Joey) so every time I went in, I was a trustee. as well as the post man - which is the dude with access to the female meal carts so I could pass notes, shanks, weed, tobacco and anything else needed in the jailhouse black market. SOOOO I hear some Earth Shattering Blues in the Downtown Blue and White Striped Festival Tent...Kind of like a "late night Christian Bible Thumpin revival" . I jumped the fence and crawled in. I couldn't believe it. There was this little kid jamming on the guitar with BB King and some Janis Joplin Cover band with BB's horn section. In between sets they were playing Jimi' Hendrix's "Axis Bold As Love" album. The little kid turns out to be smokin, joe at around age 12! I will never forget it. I had a mohawk haircut that this Brutha in cell block 3m west low gave me for a pack of Newports !It was turned into a mohawk because he couldn't fade my scraggly straight hair. Anyways.... I am in the front row jumping around with a Black-Power-Fist and a mohawk. Joe and BB were exchanging these wild blues licks. BB looked at me and probably thought I was some kind of Metal Head, so dove in to this Eddie-Van-Halen-style Fret Board Work like the "Eruption" Solo on VH2!! Man it was outrageous ! So I jumped up on stage and grabbed BB's feet. Security dove on me and pummeled me back down into the audience. Then, while holding and bending a note, BB reached down, shook my hand, reached in his blazer pocket, and then gave me four inch gold plated Gibson ES-345 which everyone who is anyone knows that is Lucille's Flavor. It said "Lucille" underneath. My mom still has that pin until this day. Besides Prince, the only famous people I have ever met
This video and your words were and are beautiful. RIP B.B.
This is beautiful and heartfelt. Thank you *****
Thanks Joe, thanks for the love expressed in this video !
A wonderful musician, a wonderful man :)
A wonderful tribute to B.B. King!
This is great. Who could ever dislike this?
Probably those who wish to become like BB King or Joe but they know that they will never get close to them.
Une époque mémorable quand on est gamin :)
Et du bb king à fond dans ma chambre tous les jours.
The King is dead! LONG live the Blues!
R.I.P. Blues Boy from Beal Street!
Simply Fantastic and thank you BB for being you...
I always see BB.King in u, u're a perfect blues man, keep going Joe Bonamassa #BBKing #Blues

The legend of the world bb king blues is the root note in any music played blues is and will always be alive
I got to see BB KING in Rochester,ny at the lilac festival tent. I got to stand less than 10 feet from him all night. He was awesome and a great showman along with being a gentleman. RIP BB you are and were one of greatest ever. But now it is Joe's turn because he is now a legend.
God... What goosebumps this gave me
Love BB. Like JB very much! BB was an angel sent by God to make our lives better and happier!! Miss you forever!!
Joe does Have It! We can remember BB King by listening to all these greats who have mastered the blues just like him ....:-)
I saw you open for B.B.
Besides Prince, the only famous people I have ever met
oh wow. Loved your story. Them were the days! For sure we grew up at a good time.
BB King ,an amazing and outstanding man..R.I.P.
Well done mr. Bonamassa, hope to se you in Dubrovnik this year in August.
Something I became sentimental and tearful to old age...
JOE BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE AND PLAYING SO GREAT . B.B. WOULD BE PROUD!
