    This makes me so happy.
    It fills me with so much joy.
    I remember lying on my stomach in front of the television and not understanding exactly why my family shot up from the sitting positions as they screamed in joy, but I remember that I was happy since they were so happy.
    Now I understand, of course, but I still get the same feeling of happiness every time I hear this song.

    Maybe I'm bitter but Alexander still has the most impressive win. He won by over 100 points in a year that no one got under 20 points. Salvador has more points overall, but he was nearly beat. Alexander won the moment he stepped on stage ✌️ (this isn't against Salvador winning, he's cool, I just wanted Alexander to go down in the history books for another 50 years)

      T Seb in the new system. In the system used in 2009, he would have won by 71 points, whereas Alexander won by 169 (these are from memory so they might be slightly off). Me saying he was nearly beat was a bit of an exaggeration, I'll admit, but I still find Alexanders win more impressive for that reason (I also just really love Fairytale 😜)

    I see a lot of comments here discrediting Salvador and his song. Some even say that he wasn't original.
    I, in other hand, think that Salvador was original. Why? Well let's look how his song differs from other ESC songs. First of all, his song is quiet. Tell me when was the last time that you heard entire song to be in quiet mood, not like begging quiet and then becoming louder, but entirely quiet. Second, his performance was different because he was, again unlike most other ESC songs, in one place and alone on the stage. No "cool" dancing, no following vocals, no piano or any other instrument. Just him on the stage, him and his voice. Third, he was focused more on his song. Just because he wasn't dancing or playing any instrument, he was more focused on the song and, if you listen carefully, you can hear that he really feels it. And finally four, his song was amazing! It wasn't in english (those ones are usually the most generic ESC songs), but in his mother, Portuguese, language. Why is that important? Because some songs simply cannot be translated into other languages, like English, and stay as beautiful as in language in which they are written. And Latin languages, including Portuguese, are proven to be the most melodic languages. That's why he won.

      Like it or not, everyone should respect the song for what it represents. The first and only rock/metal song to win the contest. The first and only win for Finland. The performers dressed up and went all out. And we were ASHAMED of them. The whole country truly believed they’d come in last place. But they showed the whole world and even their home country who didn’t believe in them. They were the underdogs and that, if something is a truly inspirational story.

      The problem isn’t in fireworks it is in originality. I can’t say that he was bad but wasn’t interesting, there are more powerful songs about feelings like Zeljko Joksimovic with Ljubav nije stvar or Emilie de Forest with Only teardrops. Also we can remember Polina Gagarina with the million voices or Marija Serifovic with Molitva. So many examples. They performed a lot time ago but we still remember them. The vocal of Salvador wasn’t so trembling and strong

    • @justinian-the-great
      @justinian-the-great 5 лет назад +2

      /Λόγκαν Λάμση Παγετού This is following the system of 50/50 introduced in 2009 which prevailed until 2015, since 2016 both votes from public and national juries are split and given separately, and before they were combined and each one influenced the other in the amount of points each country received...
      for example if the national jury gives twelve points and televote none... if they are combined that country will certainly receive far less than 12 points...

    • @MartaMarta-ub8zq

      Not. The old system is more complicated than the half of the new system's votes

    • @mentonerodominicano
      @mentonerodominicano 5 лет назад

      The old system combines the entire list (all countries) of jury and televote results to give out the final results of the country. The new system only presents the top ten of both jury and the televote separately.
      If you look at Australia 2016, many countries ranked them low in the televote, but those countries juries rated Australia very high respectively. When those whole lists of votes are combined then Australia gets a higher place overall because of their higher jury placement per country.

    I'll start by saying that, although I'm Portuguese, this isn't biased. I see everyone here loves song that ranked #2 and I have to say that, although the song grips me in some inexplicable way,something about his voice doesn't seem right to me. Idk if Salvador should be the person that has won the most points in history but, one thing that is a fact, is that one one was expecting the song that he delivered and he grabbed everyone's love and attention because of that. If you disagree feel free to say something of course but one last thing I have to add is that the Italian guy from the same year as Salvador was a prick.

      @@scofield1154 Juries tend to lead towards Sweden recent years however that was not the case in 2012. The juries gave 296 points to Sweden and the public gave them 343 which clearly shows that Sweden that year deserved it as televoters are the ones who wreck Sweden's chances. Second of all Euphoria was the favourite to win for a long time and was a hit in many places which also suggests that Sweden just really hit the jackpot with their song that year. Also in 2014 and 2015 Sweden was ranked 4th and 3rd respectively in the televoting which simply shows agreement in the masses that the songs were nice (not like in 2018 where there was about 250 points difference with the 270 or so points from Jury and only 20 from televoting)

    the old system works by mixing the jury votes of each country with their televoting votes. The result would stay the same. By the new system they just do it seperately. So, this means Australia could not be better than Ukraine which won in 2016.

    • @ParalimniVoice
      @ParalimniVoice 6 лет назад +3

      I have to agree with ''AG Games PS3''. Australia in 2016 won by jury only. The 2009-2015 system, like now, was still combining televotes and jury votes together with the difference that after 2015, the jury votes were being announced to the public first and then the televotes were getting added later. Which means the same result would happen even with the 2009-2015 system. Now if you mean the system before 2009(only televoting) that would still not make Australia the winner but rather, Russia.
