When Eminem was talking to the director about the concept of the movie, Eminem didn't want it to be a movie about Eminem, he wanted to play a character loosely based off his life. That's why instead of a daughter it's his sister. Little things like that
The director is Curtis Hansen. This dude, what an undercover Hollywood legend. He was primarily a screenwriter for decades and became a director fairly late in the game. But he had versatility and range, always collaborative and challenging himself with different subject matter and genres. Man did LA Confidential, a stone cold classic. Wonderboys which has a bunch of famous faces now in it who were still coming up back then and buried treasure. He followed that up with what industry types predicted would end his career. A film way out his comfort zone whose leading man wasn't even an actor and basically an independent movie shot almost like a documentary on location in Detroit with barely any permits and a lot of non union. That film was 8 Mile. The box office bomb it was predicted to be ended up grossing over one hundred million on a shoe string budget making it one of the most profitable movies of all time. This labor of love project Curtis jokingly called a student film became the highest grossing film of his career. He followed it up with In Her Shoes, a 'chick flick' starring Cameras Diaz and Toni Collet, moms from The Sixth Sense. It's so underrated and the best thing Diaz ever did. She's fantastic. But that's how he followed up 8 Mile. A low budget character study woman's picture. Hansen was like B-Rabbit: you couldn't pigeon hole this cat; he went his own way on his own terms. Legend. RIP Cutis
In the beginning when he chokes, he’s actually battling the guy who played “future” in real life. His name was Proof and he was part of D12, one of Em’s longtime friends, and someone who came up with him during the battle rap era. RIP to Proof.
31:45 What’s funny/interesting about this is that Anthony Mackie said in an interview that Em was actually saying things about Anthony Mackie personally up there, he apparently came up to him and said something along the lines of “Do you mind if add some stuff to script about you (Anthony Mackie)?”. Which the 2Pac line is in reference Anthony Mackie has always felt like he was the best person to play 2Pac, be it a movie or play… he just feels he could pull the role off better than anyone else. And a little background info for this is that this was his (Mackie’s) first big role and before this he was apart of a play about 2Pac but he didn’t get the role, despite alway feeling he was best for said role. (The lines about where he went to school and where/how he grew up are all about Anthony Mackie’s actual life too.)
so they just threw in the scene where he overhears some of that, like his name, school and parents or something, from the sis or ex and the one where his friend was telling him another part?
@@nathanmcdowell4731 well his names obviously not clearance and it could’ve be in a the script he calls out his school but Em went further by naming the actual private school Anthony Mackie went to. Look up his interview with Rich Eisen, just search his name and 8-Mile and you’ll see it
"Now this looks like a job for me So everybody, just follow me 'Cause we need a little controversy 'Cause it feels so empty without me" There was a good amount of controversy within this movie. And it would've been EMPTY, without Slim Shady

The guy battle rapping on 2:37 was actually Eminem’s closest friend named Proof and Mekhi Phifer’s character (guy with dreads) is who Proof was in real life before him and Eminem were known!
watch the behind the scenes footage. during filming breaks when they are at the rap Shelter, Eminem invites any extras up to battle against him for a real battle. even the freestyles he comes up with on the spot then are ridiculous
I still find it impressive how he found time to write songs for the sound track and the disses in the rap battles for the other actors at the same time and got arguably his biggest song ever from it
22 years later, and after watching the movie like 10 times, and being an avid Em listener, I only got the 7 digits - lotto reference because of you ahah
29:58. I could tell u guys didnt catch "Ward, I think you were a little hard on the beaver, so was Eddie Haskal, Wally, and Mrs. Cleaver?" Eminem flipped the "Leave it to Beaver" (tv show) line on them. They were calling Em, Beaver Cleaver, who was a dorky little white kid on the tv show. Ward was the father, Wally the older brother, and Eddie Haskell was Wally's best friend that all gave Beaver Cleaver sh.t every episode
Y'all should also react to "The Wash" it's a comedy with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, DJ Pooh, GTA' Franklin actor Shawn Fonteno(I think is his name) and Eminem
A long time ago I watch some sort of video of Eminem manager doing an interview talking about Eminem and he mention when Eminem first got signed and that Eminem was in a watch shop with some friends and Eminem wanted to buy a nice watch and instead of just purchasing it he called up his manager and asked if he could afford it and his manager said in the interview that he laughed and said to Eminem you can buy like 10 watches if you really wanted to, it just shows were he has come from and even tho money isn’t an issue for him it clearly shows he never wants to live like that again and even stuff in his songs about his daughters how he never wants them to go through what he has
Something I've not heard anyone mention is the way Em landed on the car is a pose a lot of superheroes do like spiderman, Em loves comic books and collects them, there's loads of references in his music and had even said he would of wanted to get into that profession if he didn't make it as a rapper.
one of the most ironic things about Eminem getting called a culture tourist in real life is the fact that he not only embraced/participated and proved himself within the roots of it all...he did it with the burden of not being welcomed ...with the help of Proof and a few others he pushed threw it all and came out one of the greatest rappers of all-time...indeed a great story.
29:46 Em wrote everyone's freestyles at the end ... and went off cuff fir his ... u should watch the behind the scenes where he's sitting there battling random people from the crowd it's f****** awesome
The guy you recognized from Pimp My Ride is Xzibit. He's a rapper and he's done a couple songs with Eminem and also explains why he was able to rap for the movie!
Fun fact: Anthony Mackie aka you're Pac none, played 2Pac in the Biggie Small bio pic - Notorious P.S - 8Mile is not a bio pic about Marshall Mathers. Also, dude who played Lotto passed away this year. RIP
Find the extra footage from the DVD. Em was was just lip battling because his voice was sore. But in one of the scenes, he actually turned on the MIC and spit a real one right back because he had to regardless of the movie or his voice.
Thank you for reacting in this movie. I love Eminem so much and has been my inspiration all throughout. The video was very well edited by the way and thank you for keeping all my favourite scenes :) kudos to you and your editor.
The movie Sputhpaw with Jacke Gyllenhall was supposed to be the sequel to 8mile but Eminem bowed out and decided to just do the music so they turned it into a boxing movie!

31:26 what's crazy is Kmart Captain America actually said in an interview that he thinks that he was better at rapping than eminem...... which was freaking crazy
can y'all react to Kevin gates "arms of a stranger" ." twighlight", "pages", and "big life" in one full video.. he brings a soft rock sound in those songs and very melodic and mythological way of rapping. I would love to see it
Clarence got so roasted, he went home....practiced and became the Falcon
I highly doubt it …
Moral of the story: Get roasted by Eminem, and the next thing you know you're Captain America.
Put down the pen forever for the weights and wings
Pop A Doc is The Falcon is Captain America. He the dude behind the dude playing another dude.

His very best friend.....
Yes, the song “Best Friend” with Yellawolf was written about Proof. It’s AMAZING & one of his best verses of all time!
Going Through Changes off the Recovery LP has some nice words about his boy Proof.
Eminem wrote the songs for the movie as he was filming the movie on set. He also wrote all the disses for the rappers battling against him
What about Proof? Did he thought of something when they told him who B Rabbit was or did Em wrote for him too?
