We all thought the world was gonna end every year back then. Every year you'd see an article in the magazine reading "20**, the End of the World: How to prepare for the End of Times." Or something like that. Those articles front covers worried the crap outta me as a kid
It took me all the years but I just realized all these disaster movies have two things in common, they’re a disaster movie and the main character is always an absent parent who redeems themselves by the end of it.
@@samurairex7825 Jeff Goldblum was divorced, but not an absent parent, and Will Smith's dilemma was how marrying an "inappropriate woman" could effect his career. I feel like we are following the director's different architypes he has lived through his movies. One of those has to fit the narrative of it.
A common misconception about the giant waves is to think of the ocean suddenly swelling up to rise over mountains However, it's more accurate to think of the land itself sliding into the ocean and thus the oceans (from the POV of people) seem to swell up over mountains Remember the main culprit in the movie is Earth Crust Displacement
not to mention Tsunamis do NOT look like a Hawaiian kickass Ripcurl of a wave... Footage for the tragedy at Phuket in Thailand, and again in Fukushima, Japan, show what really happens. No giant approaching wall of water to warn you.. it just sort of slowly pushes ahead like the worst Hurricane surge imaginable.
This movie never fails to make me cry. They craft some good emotional moments. The one thing I love in the DVD extras is that they show Adrian's dad's ship survived. I like to believe that as cannon.
After re-watching this movie I thought "yep, Jake Gyllenhall outrunning the cold IS sillier than John Cusack outrunning the eruption of a super volcano".
This movie convinced half of my 7th grade English class that the world really was going to end in 2012, no matter how many times me and my friends kept saying "It's just a movie."
Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Independence Day: Resurgence, Moonfall Roland Emmerich must really hate the world, because in most of his films he wants to destroy it.
Because the world sucks. Humanity really has its flaws. We've done horrible things to one another for centuries and it is high time mother nature pays us back for all the bad terrible shit.
Poseidon (both remake and original) I would really like to see you guys do both the original The Poseidon Adventure ( 1972) and the 2006 remake Poseidon.
2:00:00 The pilot didn't swap the plane for the watch, the man who Jackson gave his watch to was supposed to be their pilot, but the man died so Gordon had to drive the plane.
this movie, for all of its scientific faults, knew how to present disaster after disaster in breath taking fashion on a large scale (not enough people smushing but still good disastering). If only better plotted/written . . .
The 2012 movie contains many scientific inaccuracies, including: Neutrinos In the movie, neutrinos are carried to Earth by a solar flare and heat the Earth's core, causing earthquakes and hurricanes. However, neutrinos are neutral particles that pass through matter without interacting with it. Tsunamis The movie depicts tsunamis that are large enough to overwhelm Mount Everest. Polar reversal In the movie, the poles suddenly reverse. However, real geophysicists know that only the magnetic poles occasionally reverse. Galactic alignment In the movie, the Earth and sun align with the center of the Milky Way galaxy. However, astronomer David Morrison says that this is impossible because the Earth is always 28,000 light-years away from the center of the galaxy. The movie does include one real geology term: soil liquefaction. Soil liquefaction occurs when the ground is saturated with water and then an earthquake happens.
If you haven't already, I would recommend watching "San Andreas" next and then "Moonfall." Moonfall is another Rolland Emmerich movie; and THIS one gets WAY out there. Even more so that Independence Day: Resurgence.
In an Alt Ending scene Adrian’s dad is actually revealed to have survived the cruise capsizing it capsized onto land and his older friend survived as well and that stop they mentioned at the OG ending scene was to go pick them up
The year this came out my older brother was supposed to Take me to see princess and the frog at the theater , and he took me to see this instead lol. Imagine being 9 in 2009 and seeing this. Was on edge for next 3years lol
Even though the last third of this movie was clearly trying to establish a biblical global flood, insane enough as it is, but that end premise about Africa somehow being a higher elevation than all the world's mountains!

Thanks for the reaction. What I always thought is that Anheuser is here shown as a villain. Or at least villain-like. But I stand my ground that in the core he was right in many of his (planned) decisions. Ok, I also like Oliver Platt as an actor very much, but even so, I think in these kinds of scenarios unpopular decisions must be made. And he was mostly right...and you just can't save them all. He wasn't without fault and some decisions more than questionable of course.
