  • The day after the October 7th attack, Israel launched its counteroffensive on Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli government claims it has killed thousands of militants and severely degraded the terror group's command structure. But after a year of war, airstrikes, tank fire, artillery and guns, more than 40,000 Gazans also are dead - including thousands of women and noncombatants and at least 16,000 children, according to the authorities there. Also among the dead are more than 100 journalists - the world's only eyes and ears since the banning of the foreign press. Youmna ElSayed, an Al Jazeera correspondent, joined this program last year from Gaza to describe the reality of working there. Since that interview, Youmna has fled Gaza with her family. Ten months on, she joins the show to discuss how hard it was to leave, and the stories she could not bring herself to tell at the time.

Thank you. When I stopped seeing her on Al Jazeera I worried the worst may have happened. I'm so glad Youmna and her children are safe.

I'm very pleased to hear from a Palestinian on national news who is allowed to speak freely on what Israel really does to people over there. Even if it's PBS alone who is doing it. Thank you Amanpour & Co. I'm glad she was able to get herself & family out safe. 🇵🇸❤️

Egypt just got put on my naughty list. The list is getting long. You don't withhold an education from traumatized children, you do the opposite, for these little ones of God.
Thank you for following the path that you knew you needed to take and for your voice to be heard, your convictions, your gift, on behalf if the Palestinian people. You're children are precious, you did as you were directed, their lives and safety must come even before your job. For you were entrusted with them, to care and protect them, to raise them up for they are a true gift from God. Take heart my sweet strong sister, you are loved. ♾

The veracity of her perspective, balanced by the empathy in how her narrative was upheld with compassion, would be an apogee in ethical reporting if it was suppressed by the inherent political biases to her identity in reporting. Harrowing truth from two amazing journalists. In this I’m reminded by this discourse, of the value of an independent fourth estate in providing a conduit of perspective into the human condition when challenged by the brutality of the political variables anathema to the conscience of humanity. Rather than institutionalism for corporate agenda setting in framing reality to the lens of commercial market interests. Thank you all.

The number of martyrs in Gaza exceeded 300,000 martyrs and missing persons.
Finally, someone credible (THE LANCET, a British Medical Journal), crunched the numbers and the real genocide figures came to light.
Estimates are based on epidemiological studies that conclude that for every person killed as a result of military action, between three and twenty additional people are killed as a result. This means that the death toll may exceed 646,000 martyrs.
The number of killed and missing in Gaza/Palestine far exceeds the publicized number of "over 38,000
Late June the news reported 21,000 children are missing or imprisoned. How do the 21,000 relate to the 38,000 killed by the Zionist Regime?
    What is over 38,000? Is it 38,001? 38,010? 38,100? 39,000? 360,000? 3,600,000?
As of the last third of April 2024: I read an anonymous posting that claimed that the actual number is 200,000 victims, within a week, an anonymous German person, set the number of victims at 1/3 million, or 333,333 killed and missing.
I wondered how they came up with those number until last week when news came out about the AI program and how it works.
    Raw data:
1- The number of people on the list is 37,000
2- The average Palestinian family size is 5.6 individuals in the Gaza Strip.
3- The number of “dumb” bombs dropped on Gaza and used to support this AI program is 29,000 bombs.
4- According to a Wall Street Journal report, Israeli bombs have destroyed over 300,000 of the 439,000 homes in Gaza, which is more than 70% of the homes in the city.
5- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that at least 40,000 of those homes have been completely destroyed.
    Calculations:
1- Numbers of people on the list X Average Gaza family size 37,000 X 5.6= 207,200
    2- The number of “dumb” bombs X Average Gaza family 29,000 X 5.6= 162,400
    3- WSJ report on homes destroyed X Average Gaza family 300,000 X 5.6= 1,680,000
4- The UN report on homes destroyed X Average Gaza family 40,000 X 5.6= 224,000
Ignoring the 1,680,000 as outlier, and looking at the other 3 numbers, we find the MEAN to be 162,400 and the average 207,200+ 162,400 + 224,000 =593,600.
    593,600 / 3= 197,866
This means, the death toll in Gaza is nearly six times the number being publicized.

I thank you for sharing your story Youmna. This conflict needs to end. It should have ended long ago. There is no excuse for this lack if humanity. For targeting anyone other than Hamas. Far too many innocents have been displaced, killed, maimed, starved, have little to no access to medical care which is propagating Polio.

@christineleitner960 Yep.. where is your post showing concern about the innocent Israeli civilians killed Oct 7 2023? I couldn't find that in your comment history? Where are your posts condemning Hamas for the harm it has brought to its own people since they took over Gaza? You're either, bigoted, ignorant or a hypocrite. Pick one?

@@MIA_DaDe There is no excuse for what occurred on October 7th. As my post clearly notes, Hamas is to blame, not innocent civilians. Innocent civilians that include Jews, Non-Hamas Palestinians, international aide workers and reporters.
