  • Pioneer DJ's headphone line is best known for big, beefy designs. But with the new HDJ-CX, they have gone in a new compact, lightweight direction. Have they done enough to challenge the current reigning champion in that market segment, the Sennheiser HD25? Mojaxx gives us his first impressions in the new episode of "Beatsource Tech".

I'm pretty sure these are going to be discontinued in a couple of years (if not months) and Sennheiser will be celebrating 40 years making the HD-25 and keep making them for a long time... that's the difference.

Great review as usual Mo! I've been in the HD25 camp for a good 10 years until last year when mine trusty HD's gave up. I got a set of the Pioneer X10's and I've been very happy with them but I'm still interested in these. I'd like to know more about how they've held up structurally over the last year, especially the non replaceable cable part. Cheers

I recently retired my Technics 1210 Headphones after almost 20yrs and converted to HD-25s after also testing the Pioneer X5s. I found those to have a nice low end but made the mids and highs a little muddy. The X7s were out my price range and wouldn't dare even look at the X10s. But the Technics were incredible all round and went foe the HD-25s as they do sound incredible too, but wish the bass was just that little bit more....so maybe these HD-CX are the answer. But settled with Sennheiser now so maybe in 10yrs time

  • @barbaroja.mp3

I have a pair and the comfort does improve with the Yaxi pads for bigger big head fellow but the provided filter will muffle the highs too much and will narrow the soundstage. I source the filter from the extra pads, it bring back the tonality with greater comfort with a slight bass boost but not too much to becomer overpowering or boomy.

I was pretty sold on these until the comment about mid/high clarity. Most likely I'll stick with the HD25. Replacement parts are essential. With a small pair of headphones like this they're more likely to go through harder wear & tear (at least in my DJ bag)

I got mine today after my HD25's went mono for some reason a month ago. I like how these have a bit more weight to them which make it feel premium.

I have had my HD25 for 22+ years and they still sound as good as the day I bought them. I have had to replace the cable and foam ear cups a couple of time's over the years due to how much I actually use them (almost every day for a hour or 2) however the can's and the headband are still going strong and will deffo last at least another 10 to 20 years at least if I don't throw them around. No other headphones come close the build quality, longevity and overall performance of HD25's (IMO)

These look good and by your comments, they may sound good. Just worried about the fact that they do not fold. I would love to know if they can fit in the UDG U9950BL ~ UDG Ultimate DIGI Headphone Bag Black. I had the Sennheiser HD25 for years and I wanted to tried something different and I went with the HDJ-X10 from Pioneer. I was missing so much fun with the senns, I love the Pioneer regarding the sound specifically for mixing. The beatmaching is veery accurate and you can really hear the point where the track is exactly beatmatched. With the senns was complicated sometimes. The senns will be sell right now. Thank you mojax, this headphones looks interesting as well.

I much prefer inear, as compact as it gets, very nice for traveling (they fit in my pocket with a pair of USB) cheaper, and most importantly, they function as an earplug too, which is nice for super loud environments, protecting your ears. I usually forget I'm wearing them till I have to cue a track. Another plus (for me) is the sleek look they give. More elegant for weddings and formal events.

  • @Drrolfski
    @Drrolfski 2 года назад +3

HD25 diehard here (I've been intensely using the very same set for over 20 years now). What has always made the Sennheisers stand out is the relatively neutral frequency response curve, which makes them excellent for studio monitoring as well. Watching your impressions I assume this is not the case for the DJ HDJ-CX? Any chance you can come up with a frequency response curve comparison vs the HD 25 in your final review?
The lack of a replaceable earcup connection cable is kind of a dealbreaker for me though. These should be standard on all heavy-use DJ headphones.

I have been through and modded various pairs of HD25's with the aluminium cups, changing the cables etc and they're excellent but i recently acquired a pair of Focal listen pro's which i know are different style all together but the clarity on these is amazing even compared to the HD25's. I find for DJing sometimes the mixer has an affect on how the headphones interact with it ie digital or analogue units. So some mixers like V moda which i have also used. Others HD25's.... i think for me i'll just stick with the HD25's or the Focals as i could just keep buying more and more and the differences are negligible.....

This just looks like an another unsuccessful try from Pioneer against the Sennheiser HD-25...
The recent HDJ-S7 was a terrible headphone too. Very uncomfortable (same story: short headband for med-big heads) and sounded like putting a cheap bluetooth speaker into a trash can.
The old Pio C70 wasn't that bad, but was too bass heavy and fragile.
I only liked the X10, but that's heavy and not too comfy for long listening sessions.
Honestly, I don't really understand why is it so difficult doing a better on-ear dj headphone than the Sennheiser.
Especially with the technical knowledge that a company like Pioneer has... 🤔
