  • Over the last few years, a number of academic gains have been made by historically disadvantaged students, but a report released last year found that graduation rates for Native American students have actually declined with only about half earning a diploma. High teacher turnover has been a problem so some rural Alaska Natives have been trying to "grow" their own teachers.
