Brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. I can not believe it's 30 years since I saw Matt's smiling face at Emma's 18th birthday party in Tewkesbury-the last time any of us saw him. You will never be forgotten Matt xxx

I served on HMS Intrepid in San Carlos with the Argonaut, i remember her stationed at the far end, knowing she had been badly damaged. A year later I was drafted to Argonaut, a fresh crew to bring her out of Refit after her repairs, and conversion.
proud to have served on both. Thanks for posting.

@@will_e754 hi, joined Argonaut un June of '83, still in refit/repair in Devonport. Was a new ships company, and fitted fresh with Towed Array sonar for the new times. Excocet to instead of 4.5 gun. Was on her for almost 18 months..

Ian Parry my grandad fought on Argonaut during the 1939-45 campaign, the ship is tattoo’d on my forearm as well as the insignia in rememberence For all those that served, and some were lost no doubt during the damage she sufficed/ we went on to lose to time. I want to thank you for carrying on my grandads naval tradition. He was called Eric memmot, once reunited by his Australian marine in Sheffield in the early 90’s before his death at the young age of 76. I salute you and your service. Thank you

Ian parry, my great uncle was second in command of the HMS Argonaut during the falklands war and I am incredibly proud of him and the courage of the men especially when the ship was hit. He was called Barry Bartlett, I hope you remember him and I salute you and your service during the falklands war. Thank you.

Thank you first and foremost for your service in the falklands conflict.
You made a country proud, and you continue to do so, and we as youngsters will never forget your efforts aboard this ship and her history.
My grandad Eric Memmott served on Argonaut during WW2, whilst an entirely different vessel he was so proud of you chaps! I need you to know this.
When Sheffield went down (where he was from) he was crestfallen, another war injury he so sorely felt. If only wars stopped when millions of men had paid the penultimate sacrifice.
I’m 34 now, my grandad passed away some 20 years ago... it has been my solemn duty to honour everyone that sailed upon her and her predecessor! So much so to have the insignia proudly emblazoned on my arm, along with the proud remembrance in the form of the posturing 61 class tattoo on my forearm....
never, in time as I spend on this planet, will anyone close to me, Ever forget the services that served under the insignia HMS Argonaut. God bless you all and those that sailed in to the clouds.

Hello, what a wonderful film and telling of the story of the Argonaut. I watched it with my Dad, Peter Hobbs, it was his favourite ship. He was the CCEA on the Argonaut on the Second Commission between 1969 and 1971. My Dad was promoted to a FCCEA (Fleet Chief) while on board the Argonaut. He tells many wonderful stories of those times. He was also on the Ark Royal, the Blake, Triumph, Tiger

I did some time in HMS Argonaut in 1974 when I was transferred over to her from HMAS STUART (DE48), as a LSFC. We were on Far East Deployment at the time. A very memorable time for me! I had a ball. Loved the Double Diamond Beer but would have preferred it to be cold! LSFC2 Cook. Where are you Cookie! I was a member of one of the Gunnery Mess' Deck Hockey Teams, The first Gunnery Team to make a grand final in 3 or 4 commissions! Cheers fellars.

HMS Argonaut - slightly damaged outside San Carlos Water by rockets and cannon fire from Aermacchi MB.339A of CANA 1 Esc, and then seriously damaged by two unexploded bombs (3/4) dropped by A-4B Skyhawks of FAA Grupo 5. Removing the UXB's and carrying out repairs took a number of days and although declared operational, she soon sailed for the UK.

    • @danielw5850

That’s a noble account of her operational service and of course, by then, the Argentine Navy were nowhere, the Air Force - decimated (honourably) and the Argentine Marines, Special Forces, Army & AirForce units, on the Falkland Islands, well, let’s just say, “Waiting to be defeated & captured.

A fantastic tribute to one of my favourite warships - our River Class were modified Leanders - very lethal looking warships, but not as lethal looking as the DDG's. My extremely biaised opinion is that HMAS Melbourne (R21) was the best ship EVER.

Last time I seen her she was in Gibraltar 1982 getting ready to sail south. We hoped to be going too but as we only had one screw they decided we would be more of a liability. I do believe a young Tiff on her won the Gib Rock race just before she left. First RN ship I ever saw after 20 years with her life rafts painted gray and not white.
