Have you seen the mast of that yacth? Its 75m tall. Its the tallest of the world. The broken half probably enough to tilt the yacth if it fell onthe side
Why is that so implausible? It could also be still attached via the rigging, dragging in the water, or any number of other scenarios. Can you really say you've had enough experience to rule it out?
Sailboats don’t “capsize” because the mast “snaps off”. At anchor the boat would actually become more stable. Probably more rolling but with the weight aloft now gone, the ballast in the keel has less force to balance against. It would have much more of what’s called “righting moment”. In other words the boat is now much heavier at its lowest point, and much less at its highest point, making its “righting moment” much more powerful.

At some point as the spout got closer to the end of the mast the leverage factor would of given the spout with it's downward force the advantage and pinned the mast to the sea's surface and possible snapping it in two but not lightning they are designed to with stand lightning strikes and was struck before without incidence . Did this yacht have a retractable keel? Find it amazing that it capsized and losing the mast would have brought the centre of gravity down quite considerably. If it indeed had a retractable keel and that keel was in the raised position, it would have have a big effect on the yachts stability.
@@MessiahJesuSaviouroftheWorld Yep, heard that too. Was just curious why this huge yacht went down so quickly, and not far away, a second, smaller yacht survived undamaged. This is the reason why I asked about the retractably keel.
@@FlightData101 From the very beginning, a couple of things didn’t add up. They said the mast snapped off. If that had happened, and as I previously stated, the centre of gravity would have shifted considerably which would have been in favor of the yacht remaining stable on the water. After finding out it had a folding keel, I naturally assumed it was in the raised position. I believe the mast is still attached, and as now reported in the news, many hatches had been left open allowing for a catastrophic ingress of water when the boat was heeled over by the wind.

A sailboat’s tall mast must be counterbalance in the keel of the sailboat. A dismasted sailboat’s center of gravity will be lower and closer to the waterline making it hard to capsize.
