18 years of classical training is no small achievement. She was a Bach enthusiastic. God bless her soul!

I tell everyone that she was first and foremost a classically trained pianist. Not a jazz pianist or jazz singer.
She wanted to be the best black classical pianist in the world and was robbed of the opportunity because of her skin colour. She gave us everything whilst sacrificing her own dreams and sanity.

I saw nor heard no evidence of weakness mentally or physically here. Her statements here are evidence of her unflinching honesty-- no shame; PURE NINA. Nina was calm and poised. She expressed herself well and said what I agree she wanted to project . She looks very nice here as well. She is not just speaking to Mavis, but to those whom it applies. This grand being is hurt and should not have been in that predicament.......she had paid her dues and satisfied millions. Nina needed and deserved her wealth, PERIOD.

So many took and took from this goddess and gave her little to nothing in return.
She spoke openly about just wanting to go back to a house and not her apartment and to simply pay off on her mums house and the interview went on basically sweeping he dust under the carpet.
Powerful minded women are usually destroyed they become a threat because of the truths they speak.

No one is listening... What happened to her money? THIS is the question the interviewer should be asking. This is what she is trying to say... she had great records that made a lot of money, but was not being paid for them. She did NOT laugh when she was talking about her money. BiPolar does not mean you can't count.

She said her will to live is what keeps her creating the music, even though she is not getting her just compensation for her God Giving Gift. And what a Colossal Gift it is. It saddens me seeing that look on her face of such sadness, even though she was about to do what she loves and which gives those who truly appreciate it so much happiness.

When she said '' I have enormous will' That is THE TRUTH behind the survival of every living black person on this planet. Thats what keeps us going when they try to take what we deserve in this life and try to bring us to our knees. We survive everything even when they try to kill us because of our ENORMOUS WILL. Been listening to NINA these past few days and i just have to say she blows me away everytime she speak. And i am here to listen.....

    She was black listed
She got caught up in the Civil Rights Movement and when everyone left died killed she was all alone with all that evergy, but everyone was gone, then she got everybody's back
You can't be singer and a civil rights activist

I think from reading some of the comments people are a bit uncomfortable watching this, as she comes across a certain way, almost as though every word is painful to release from her mouth but that internal struggle, confusion and fight to find answers is where her energy and brilliance comes from, she's not someone to pity she's someone to admire, hopefully she came to see over the following years that her brilliance was recognised and valued by so many.

  • @yvettemcphee5116

Why do they ask these questions about being tired? It is so obvious why she would be exhausted by the injustice aimed at her during that time. And when she answers their questions with honest details they can't handle the truth apparently because the interviewer just laughs in response which is so disrespectful. I am so annoyed by how their questions are used to provoke her emotionally. In my opinion, I think Nina Simone said too much about her pain. Because racist media thrives on the pain of powerful, talented, influential Black women. Yvette M.

I immigrated to the USA 2011 and lived in a condo for about 6 months and I told my husband the same thing she said in this interview I can't live in a condo and be limited with the hours I played in my piano just because I need to have the freedom and the space to play my piano, anytime I want to. The same thing she said about I need a steinway piano in my house not a condo. Fast forward, I never have any idea who is Nina Simone until John Legend sang her song during the inauguration and listening this interview is so real for me I get where she is coming from with her music.

I believe new worldwide courts should institute change in the laws on purchases of songs and albums from the artist. If the purchaser makes any profits a certain percentage is given back to the artist artists or artist families. If there isn't any family the monies must go to towards music education for children ... thanks for the clip...

I so hope you did, and that she got decades to enjoy them. 💖 Beautiful, talented, genuine lady.

She sadly passed away relatively young at the age of 70, and while I don't think she had nearly the amount of money that she was owed, I believe she lived relatively comfortably by the end.
The same university that rejected her scholarship all those years ago on account of her being black, which kick started her fight for civil rights, actually did grant her an honorary doctorate just a few years before she died, and she was very insistent that people refer to her as "Doctor Nina Simone!" haha
So at least she had that closure, that her initial chance in life which was owed to her, was returned in the end.
All we can do in the end is remember Nina's story as an example of injustice in the world, and fight against the exploitation of artists and people in the present and in the future

I wish for Nina is a type of peace with acceptance of her situation. She is a contraindicated when she says she loves to play and gets love from that. But where is the self love. Only we can do that. She was obviously ripped off by the people who controlled her money. But no one came to her aid. She feels betrayed and she was. The truth is in the details, I would like to know who, what and How this occured. She needs rest and to take care of herself. I hope she finds peace. And if any of the vultures around are gone. She has to protect and preserve what is left of her music. And gets her fair share of money. You here this alot with musicians being ripped off by those they employ to handle their finances. A lesson to all musicians out their. This is a greedy world. The do not have the talent of the musician but they are narcissistic and egotistical. And if they can be a creator, they will manipulate the creative one and take their money. A warning to all the young creators of art and music.but I think the Beyonce's of today's world have got much more power and control and autonomy. But talent like Roberta does not exist as much today.

Mavis Nicholson was a great journalist and interviewer but British TV in the 70's was a very stiff and formal affair. Also, as a serious femail interviewer Mavis was a rarity and would be up against her own set of restrictions and expectations. However, it's really shockingly to here such a great, great artist being so under appreciated.
