The MOST Important aquarium equipment YOU MUST Have

  • A heater controller is the most important equipment in your aquarium -- I mean heaters, filters, wavemakers sometimes -- they're all really important too, but I'd place a heater controller above them because many people don't even know about them, and also because they can prevent a malfunction of your heaters from killing all your tropical fish, African cichlids and American cichlids. Whatever fish tank you have will benefit from a controller, and the one I'm going to show you from INKBIRD is the most amazing one I've seen. And it doesn't break the bank by a long shot.
    Cichlid Charmer is dedicated to sharing the joy of keeping African cichlids and American cichlids and sharing information about them. Much of my content is not cichlid fish specific, however. It also pertains to all tropical fish aquariums. I will share what I have learned about cichlids and other fish, and everyone is welcomed to comment with their own experiences and information about fish and aquarium practices in general.

    I like the light bulb analogy - notice how they always blow when you turn them on! And then they won't work anymore.... Funny thing about electronic components is, they only short long enough to OPEN; and when they open they don't work. Nothing on this planet works any differently including fish tank heaters.

    • @CichlidCharmer

      I mean you COULD, but I feel pretty good just having my two heaters plugged into this one unit with the redundancy. Your tank is doubly safe with one for each heater. Or is it doubly doubly safe?

    CC,
    I don’t have any controllers on my tanks. All my heaters have fail safes in them. Isn’t that a good thing to have. They are supposed to not cool the fish in a failure. Good review. You should set up a whole WiFi mesh system. Then no slow internet and consistent all through the house. I set up a mesh system and love how easy it is and the speeds.

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you, Jeremy. I have a great mesh system and my satellite routers are all hard wired in their rooms. However… it took me FOREVER to get it all running. There was a problem and I have NO IDEA how I fixed it. I tried to go back in and add 2.4, but my pw isn’t working and it’s telling me I don’t know my Dad’s middle name, so I would have to reset the whole thing. 😳😳

    Bless you sweet Stella I just want to give her some smooches too! Thank you for the great review on the ITC 306A of course you know my great tec skills I went for the ITC 308S without Wi-Fi (have them on 3 tanks) but now I'm second guessing my decision I like the 2-probe idea hum.... OK not the Wi-Fi but again maybe. Well now the cat is out of the bag, your wife will find out about her thermometer, but probably won't want it back after using it in your tanks, not wanting to use for her next turkey she bakes 🤢🤢Thank you so much I might have to upgrade what I have.

    What if the controller fails or malfunctions? For example what if the controller misreads the temperature of the tank or simply isn’t calibrated correctly?

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  4 месяца назад

      Very good question. The controller definitely can fail, but it’s a lot less likely to fail than your heaters. This unit will tell you when one of the probes is off compared to the other probe, so that’s good. A single probe would not be as fail safe. Just to be sure, set your heaters at just a little higher than your controller. And make sure you use a good thermometer to calibrate the unit.

    • @TheCichlidDude
      @TheCichlidDude 3 месяца назад

      Okay thank you. I decided to buy one, I kept turning my heater down but it wasn’t reducing the temperature from 81°F so I appreciate this! I’m a bit confused on how to calibrate it. I have a brand new floating thermometer, should that be accurate enough to test if the calibration is correct when the controller arrives?

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  3 месяца назад

      I’m not sure how accurate your thermometer is. With a probe like the one I stole from my wife, you can dip the tip of it into a glass of ice water and try to keep the tip from touching the ice - just water. It should be 32 degrees +/- 1 degree. I don’t know how to check those floating ones. I’d invest in a good electronic probe, myself.

      @@CichlidCharmer Philippines, Heaters are a thing for Goldfish groomers (bulking), coolers are existent but expensive for most hobbyist, so they are very rare. We only have dry and wet season, so temperatures based on my experience only goes between 27c to 31c on my aquariums. I'm on the camp that we do too much on our hobby, and frankly over complicate things at times, fish are cold blooded, so theh can practically adapt to a lot of things just not abruptly, especially that they are captive bred. Been into Arowanas, Pacus, Oscars, "freshwater shark", Koi and Goldfish over the years, planning into diving into the world of African cichlids now 😅
