I talked my mom into letting me go to his concert in ‘77-78. EVERYONE had Frampton Comes Alive. Saw him again 40 yrs later and he was fantastic. Still 😍 but with less hair.

That’s a talk box that’s connected to his guitar through a tube which alters the sound of the guitar by the way he moves his mouth. And yes it’s freaking awesome!
Thanks for mentioning that. I feel like it should be obvious what's going on, especially given how the video production overlays his picking hand with his vocalization. But then I knew what this was back in the day so I'm biased. The important thing is appreciation for the performance.

Everyone I knew had the Frampton Comes Alive album. And the Midnight Special was the best thing on TV back then. Loved it when Wolfman Jack hosted it.
Eh, perhaps. He did have a real downfall. The Sgt. Peppers movie was terrible for him. The album after this sucked (with the single "I'm in you") But he was redeemed. And you know who did it? Because he went to school with his older brother? David Motherfucking Bowie. Glass Spider tour.
Frampton Comes Alive! Was the BEST live album of all time. I was 16 and the album cover was on my wall. 45 years later I saw him sing this song from the front row! He still can play!
I bought the album and did the same thing. Then he came to Mobile for a concert. Went and Gary Wright opened for him. Was great. Then Frampton came on, the whole concert sounded exactly like the album down to the the last note. We were kind of let down. It was great but we all thought we could have just stayed home and listened to it. Gary Wright was amazing though. All synths.
A TalkBox isn't any kind of synthesizer. It's entirely analogue. Instead of his guitar playing out of an amp, the TalkBox is like a mini-amp that sends the sound wave down that tube you saw him put in his mouth. The guitar sounds come out of that, and he shapes them with his mouth, just like he does with the vibrations from his vocal chords. And guitar face is very much like sex face. On any instrument, if you're *really* into it, your face matches how you feel, and you could care less how it looks.

That being said, didn’t stop me from getting one to figure out how to do this after first hearing this years ago. Teeth are still intact, but also I haven’t used it pushing over 100dB through that tube into my mouth. 🤟💚💯

I had a lifesize poster of Peter Frampton in my room in 1973! My first love looked just like him (with black hair and blue eyes) and played guitar. Peter Frampton's guitar was great! Oh, the memories! Thank you for this!
He was a teenage heartthrob in the band Herd then joined Steve Marriott to form Humble Pie. After five albums he left the Pie to go solo. A very storied career.
It was always considered that Frampton was a little overshadowed by Marriott (true legend) who was the lead singer and the most important member of Humble Pie . But when Frampton left the band he released this masterpiece album showing us who great of a musician he is. This album rocks .
His father was a music teacher one of his students was David Bowie. Back in the Guitar years 60’s and 70’s Frampton was one of the very best. He did had success with a band called Humble Pie early on.
You are right , Humble Pie was considered one of the first British super-bands were Frampton played guitar as a duo with Steve Marriott . But Steve lead singer was the star of the group. When Frampton left the band he deservedly achieved instant success .
I got to see Frampton play this album on the Forth of July 1976, in Nashville. One of my all time favorite concerts! He is considered one of the guitar heroes!

I saw Peter Frampton in concert twice - once about 1978 when my husband and I were dating, and again just a few years ago. He is still just as good in concert as he was back then! And he has his son singing with him!
Peter Frampton was not only a legendary guitarist but a huge hitmaker for a few years. His double album "Frampton Comes Alive" was on the charts for a long time. He sounds even better live than on his studio albums. Try "Show Me The Way" for another hit he had.
You were talking and missed when he was actually talking with the talk box, The talk box is connected to the guitar. That is how he getting those sounds from the guitar and his voice. He was one of the first rockers to use the talk box.
For me, I have so much respect for his talent and musicianship, this video was a difficult watch. I wanted to yell at the screen to "shut up" because they constantly were laughing and talking over so many of the best subtleties to his solos. It was actually very frustrating, lol. don't think there was anyone out selling Peter at this time. definitely peak popularity right here. also when he was in Humble Pie with the late great Steve Marriott beautiful music what a great time it was...
this is the era of true talent,no auto tune or computer corrected songs it was one heck of a party every where you went in the seventy's, cause in the 1970's great music was all over the world!!!!!
lol. For years I thought he played the voice box exactly like his guitar phrasings then I found that they actually channeled the guitar through the mouthpiece.
Peter Frampton was with Steve Marriot and Humble Pie and did a lot of session playing before his solo career. Also, the version of the song from live Album "Frampton comes Alive" was never duplicated there was magic in the air that night. The Talk Box was big.
Saw him in concert in 1976 at MSG in NYC. It was so much fun!! The crowd was super involved and interactive with him. It was nuts... like one huge party. The energy was beyond incredible! One of the best shows I was lucky to have seen! Frampton is now in his 70s and has had some health problems. What a beautiful and talented man, no matter what! ❤🎸🎵
Guys Peter Frampton's father, Owen Frampton was a school teacher in England. One of Owen's students was David Jones aka David Bowie. Bowie was 2 grades ahead of Peter.
He's playing the guitar through what's called a "talk box". That's actually the original talk box. He got it from the inventor. When he stepped over to the second microphone you can see him move the white box with his foot. The box has a driver (speaker) in it. He steps on the switch on top of the box which diverts the guitar signal from the amplifier to the driver in the box, which travels up the rubber hose in his mouth. then the guitar reflects from his mouth into the microphone. The guitar he was playing is a very early Gibson Les Paul Custom professional built in 1957. Back in the day, I think in the late 1970's he was scheduled to tour South America. They shipped all of their equipment by airplane which crashed, I want to say in Aruba maybe. He of course thought the Les Paul was lost forever. Fast forward to just a handful of years ago. Someone in the know went to hear a live local band on that island and realized that the guitar player was playing that guitar. Long story short. Peter owns that guitar again. It's in bad shape but, he still plays it on stage. He originally came to fame in the band Humble Pie when he was a teenager. They had many hits but, one of the most famous was a song written buy Ashford and Simpson who wrote for Motown. They wrote the song for Ray Charles but Humble Pie made the song iconic. Check out "I don't need no doctor"
I saw Peter do this song at the L.A. Forum in 1977. Frampton played a guitar solo, then a piano solo, then a drum solo in the same song… a 30 minute version of this song….AMAZING
Saw him live, phenominal!!! He was top 10 guitarists then had bad car wreck. Broke up his arms, hands. Couldn't play for year in recovery. BUT, HE PLAYS TODAY!!!!😎😍😎😍😎😍😎😍😎😍😎😍😎😍😎
I can tell you that Frampton was on the breeze in 1976 and you were on point with this reaction, my friends. I saw Frampton in concert in 2016 and he was Killin it on an acoustic gig. Lines on my Face, Show Me the Way, and the aforementioned Baby I Love Your Way should be on your radar. Enjoy your musical journeythrough.
As a teenager in the 70’s being invited to a weekend party at someone’s house was the ultimate. I had just started in band as a drummer and it got around that I was cool so I was invited to one. I was 12! My younger sister listened to Shaun Cassidy, teen girls listened to Fleetwood Mac and Frampton. I remember a 14 year old Marsha Brady look alike girl named Claire who gave me my first great kiss when this song was on the turntable. Burned into my mind and makes me smile 47 years later. I still love Claire.
Man this audience is DEAD in their seats. The Frampton Comes Alive live recording audience literally jumped outta their skins surrounding the mouth organ part. That was very exciting to listen to over and over!
I remember watching this, sitting on the floor about a foot away from the TV, one of those big old console units in the wood cabinet, with my best friend who had a huge crush on Peter Frampton. It was late, and everyone else was asleep, so we had to keep the squeals and screams to a minimum, but it was hard to do! Great times and a great era to be a teen-ager!
Best concert I have seen. 1976 touring on this album. $6 admission. He was great and all the women were mesmerized by him. Guys too, probably. Gary Wright of Dreamweaver fame opened for him and he was great too! Frampton is still performing but has a condition that makes him have to use a chair. Bless him❤
The guitar he's playing is a custom made one of a kind,it's also on the cover of Frampton Comes Alive. He was playing in South America when the plane carrying his equipment, including that guitar, crashed.Several people died and he thought he'd lost that guitar but someone actually stole it from the wreckage. Fast forward 30 yrs. later, someone brought THAT same guitar into a repair shop and the owner,a Peter Frampton fan, knew exactly who it really belonged to. He took possession of it and contacted Peter and told him what he had. Here's the story if you want to hear it. ruclips.net/video/Qo3VOHNksSw/видео.html
When you went to see Frampton back in the 70's you got a fucking show. He's pretty much retired from touring, but may still do the occasional live show, and I'd venture to say, you'll still walk away feeling like you got your moneys worth.

More talent in his little finger than 1/2 the artist today combined.
don't think there was anyone out selling Peter at this time. definitely peak popularity right here.
also when he was in Humble Pie with the late great Steve Marriott beautiful music what a great time it was...
🇨🇦 Todays rappers couldn't even come close to this ! Try sampling that !
This guy was the biggest thing when he came out massively huge! He is incredibly talented. Thanks for playing one of his best
Love it when the younger generation appreciates music from years back
Saw him in the 70’s …till this day one of the best shows I’ve ever seen
this is the era of true talent,no auto tune or computer corrected songs it was one heck of a party every where you went in the seventy's, cause in the 1970's great music was all over the world!!!!!
Guys
Peter Frampton's father, Owen Frampton was a school teacher in England. One of Owen's students was David Jones aka David Bowie. Bowie was 2 grades ahead of Peter.
He did the best version of, WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS
The "Frampton Comes Alive" version of this is a must-see.
The song was really that long, Peter Frampton was huge back in the day, and this song was an anthem for my generation.
He was in the greatest rock band ever Humble Pie
In the 70's if a group of people were around, this song would be playing for sure
Frampton is one of the world's best guitar players.
Lines on my face is still my favorite summer jam!
I was 16 yrs old when this song came out ,I had the pleasure of enjoying all the great bands of the 70s in the coolest time to be a teenager
Dude took funk to another level.
“Do you feel like we do?” Nah man I don’t, but I would love too!
Man this audience is DEAD in their seats. The Frampton Comes Alive live recording audience literally jumped outta their skins surrounding the mouth organ part. That was very exciting to listen to over and over!
Man did we party to this one back in the day. Jesus. It's a wonder any of us are alive today.
Great reaction
I met him and he is so humble and nice. Every time I see him in concert he is always amazing.
Lol Your comments are right on Frampton was flying on another planet and still gave the performance of a lifetime.
It's called a "talk box". The guitar sound travels out of the box, through a tube into the players mouth, then amplified into the vocal mic. EPIC.
Best Song of the 70's. Brings back so many HS memories!!
Bless him❤
I'M 70 AND STILL CRANK THIS UP!!!👍🏼❤👍🏼👍🏼❤
He got so famous he had his own pinball machine back in the late 70s
Wow
The guitar he's playing is a custom made one of a kind,it's also on the cover of Frampton Comes Alive.
He was playing in South America when the plane carrying his equipment, including that guitar, crashed.Several people died and he thought he'd lost that guitar but someone actually stole it from the wreckage. Fast forward 30 yrs. later, someone brought THAT same guitar into a repair shop and the owner,a Peter Frampton fan, knew exactly who it really belonged to. He took possession of it and contacted Peter and told him what he had. Here's the story if you want to hear it.

Yay, glad to hear it!
When you went to see Frampton back in the 70's you got a fucking show. He's pretty much retired from touring, but may still do the occasional live show, and I'd venture to say, you'll still walk away feeling like you got your moneys worth.
Genius...man is a genius...for 2-3 years in the late 70s he owned the world.
