A bone folder instead of a screwdriver does a wonderful job bro...
I just made ribbons for mine.. I used a manila folder cut to size to fit in spine.. and did 6 two strands of yarn and knotted each two strands.. . then used two sided tape and did two rows of ribbon (yarn) , folded the manila folder in half and taped.. then instead of feeding from the top, I fed from the bottom.. so my markers would show at the top..very easy to open Bible to where I want..

I used double sided tape to keep the bookmarks in my daily missal so they don't slide out.
This seems a little hard and time-consuming with the possibility of ruining your Bible. I like to use colored index cards, 2 matching pieces and double-sided tape. you sandwich the ribbons inside the cards, cut them to size and stick it behind The Binding that you're wiggling through right now. Between the binding and the letter. They work great I use up to eight ribbons in one of these oh, they don't harm the Bible and you can use multiple colors.
You can also but them made like that. I used to have one.

I have been struggling to add ribbons to paperback bibles or anything bible. I have found some bibles that have some gap.
Also... I normally use a butter knife instead of screwdriver.
I will try that on the Cambridge... which has me worried. lol

Why don't you just cut the original ribbon at the base with an exacto blade? 5 seconds versus a few minutes.

OK, it's official I'm getting an ESV! It's your fault Bear in mind I'm Spaniard we have the Reina Valera 1960 version but I don't like nor the palabra viva or whatever they call it, it's like your NLT. So usually I get NIV in Spanish or English. But I'm gonna try ESV. I tried CSV as well. Like you I'm on the hunt for the perfect Bible.
