Regret is useless unless it fuels you to do things differently in the future. That's the power of regret, a driving force. Dwelling on what you regret does absolutely nothing.

      @aaronmarchand999 5 лет назад +5

I should say: "dwelling on regret" at its root is a form of indulgence in self pity. It's actually pathetic. A better way is to learn from your mistakes and take the pain

      Quote:
"The most important thing is always for all people to recognize that you’re not who you were a year ago. You’re not who you were five years ago, you’re not who you were last week. You’re who you are now, and this is the only s-t you have control over. So you’ve got to regulate how much you dwell on regrets of the past, you really got to be careful… for sure, who I am now wouldn’t have ever happened if I didn’t f-k up. If I didn’t make those mistakes I wouldn’t have understand the importance of friendship and kindness, and if I hadn’t been cruel at some point in my life or someone hadn’t been cruel to me, I wouldn’t understand the beauty of love. I wouldn’t understand the full range of it ’cause I hadn’t felt the sting… what I am saying is that there’s a f--g yin and a yang to this world, man, and you’ve got to fuel yourself with the f-ups, and most people get stuck in these patterns because they define themselves as a f--up, or they define themselves as the person who doesn’t follow through on their ideas, or a person who doesn’t pursue their real interest in loves, you define yourself by that. “Well, you know, I start things and then I quit.” No you don’t. No, you have started things and you quit, and it gives you a horrible sense of regret that’s made you define yourself by that. You don’t have to do that. You don’t have to do that."

My biggest regret is the fact that i haven't let the right people in my life when they were showing all the signs. I've let past experiences/depression and other things blind me from the fact that there are some people who actually meant to make a positive impact in my life. Instead of paying more attention to these people and give them a chance to become part of my life, i've let the door closed without even realizing it at times to the point where they eventually stopped paying attention. They slowly turned into accountances, then strangers, and eventually faded away by going on with their own life ...

I regret not spending enough quality time with my dad and grandma before they passed away... especially while my dad was in a bad condition with his illness and I wouldn't spend much time with him because the situation was too painful for my mind to accept, so I just went and sat into my room (when I could have had endless interesting conversations with him and learn so many things about him that I now cannot...) The biggest regret is when you look back in your life, and you suddenly realize that you never took time to say the ones who matter to you that you love them. Nothing will go with us when we make it to the other side of our pelerinage. We need to be more compassionate towards each other, showing more love. That way no regrets will be brought about.

I feel you. I really hurt my parents. I made the mistakes to call them I wish they never gave birth to me or that I want them to die or abandon me. But I was so stupid. I realized that they really take care of me and are trying their best. At least they are still alive, I already apologized but I know that's not enough and I'm working on it

  • @kenmcclellan

While my wife was dying (I'd cared for her the final three years at home), there are things I think I could have done better. Spending more time with her. Not having such high expectations of her. Of not having demanded more of the medical system. Of not having radically changed her diet and instead going with what she liked. Of not focusing on how self-deprecating she was and how little she demanded. What-ifs killed me for months. Every morning after she was gone, I looked at her portrait to say, I'm SORRY! And all I could fall back on was the idea that she had finally seen the other side as being way better than keeping a brave face on what clearly wasn't getting any better on this side of the Veil. If you asked a hundred people who knew her who the best person they ever met was ... she would universally make the top three. So anything I might have done to buy an extra day would be like an extra lifetime! But realistically, at the end her body was betraying her so badly I told the nurses to get out and the docs to fix the pain and let God sort out the rest. It was the hardest thing I ever did. And it felt like the biggest failure imaginable.

Regret and bitterness are torments that are insanely insidious and kill off parts of you. You think time is a healer til you realize decades later you still carry this afresh like the very first day. Whats horrific is regret is as old as time itself yet no one comes up to you in a panic warning of the horror, sitting you down and telling you the truth of how regret kills, like any other form of life threatening habit like cigarettes, drugs etc. Though you may survive it til old age, it killed you a long time ago.

Indeed ... Regrets never leave your mind honestly, you just find ways to burrow them/forget about them for an undetermined amount of time and pretend that everything is ok. Until the day they comes back to the surface for some reason ...

    Hey Lana,
I'm a young footballer and I saw this channel recently. I really thought: 'what is this for channel?' Meanwhile, I really enjoy your channel. These videos are so underrated. People always want to improve in their lives. They always want to learn train their muscles and learn new stuff. Sometimes people get ripped apart because of their lives. It's not that, it's because you are your own worst enemy. I always made that mistake. I just had to be my own friend, to love and enjoy myself. I also took too little rest mentally. It's the same as rest for trained muscles because the mental side of your brain is also a muscle. You have to let it rest from time to time.
Thank you Lana for making my day and learning me new things. I know the chance of this getting read by you is small, but have a great day Lana. You are beautiful and humble. I am sending the message without identity. Sooner or later I will get the success I was working for because of your messages that you spread. Thank you very much for that.
    Have a lovely day

I regret not walking away from people sooner, and letting people dictate my next move at different stages in my life, I regret not saying no more often and despite being "confident" letting people walk over me because I wanted to please them, make them happy and not make them be mad at me. I regret getting sucked into drugs and alcohol in high school, which made me lose so much time to improve myself and become a better version of myself. but now, looking upon all of what ive done, ive learned to look at it all as a synchronistic arrangement by the universe to bring me where i am today. without those experiences, i would never be who i am today. I am grateful i cut everyone out my life that didn't and currently doesn't serve me, and quitting all of those habits was one of the most difficult times of my life. but i did it all. ive made peace with it knowing that i would never been the best version of myself today without experiencing the person i don't want to be.

The dictionary definition of regret is "Feel sad, repentant, or disappointed over (something that one has done or failed to do)"
I also agree with you that having no regret is the best way to live which made my experience watching the video interesting. Hearing most of these regrets felt pointless because there are ideas behind them of what should have happened instead of accepting what happened and learning from it to create a better life. We can often feel like victims to circumstances but we are so much more powerful than that.
I also then wondered... because I have this view that it is useless to have regrets maybe I have some repressed ones.
Going back to the definition I will phrase them in a way that works with that because I feel regret is too vague.
I felt disappointed when I left a band I was in a few years back. I don't have any desire to be bring the band back together now but at the time it was a difficult thing to accept and let go of. I rarely think about it because I live in the moment and follow my unique desires.
I feel sadness thinking about the past Andy who thought he couldn't speak with confidence when delivering presentations. He felt pressured into not breaking expectations of himself and others. He put himself in a prison that no one wanted him to put himself in but he thought they did. He was scared of big reactions because he has always been sensitive.
What he didn't know was that he could embrace his sensitivity fully, surrender to it and still remain non-reactive if he wanted to... or be reactive and acceptant of that. He often heard people say he was too sensitive so would pretend he wasn't and try and hide it instead of fully accepting it as a beautiful part of him.
I stayed with a girlfriend after I had found out I had been cheated on. I felt regret for this one for sure but now I am grateful for the lesson. It taught me to follow intuition and not stay in a relationship out of fear of being alone or an assumption that I am not valuable enough to find someone else. Now I know I am awesome and will always find people just as brilliant. I have been with my current girlfriend for over 7 and a half years who is amazing and so in sync with me and I am very grateful for that too.
All these could be classed as regrets but to me they are something different. The past you is not you. That is a fiction. A persona. Simply just a concept. What you are is much more than that and in this moment you are completely different person from who you were in any past moment. You ARE the moment and you place your power into ideas and concepts to play the game. Many people think they are the character but that's just a tool.
We are all fluid beings and we are all made up of energy. We are consciousness itself and don't have to believe the idea of duality. There is no separation.
When we convince ourselves we are separate it's like children playing together and giving each other a character to play. I'll be the wizard and you can be the princess. That's what we're all doing so we don't have to take the character so seriously. We CAN but we don't HAVE to. Big difference.
We're here to play and explore, connect with others and enjoy the play but there's much more going on outside of this game.

Emotions, pleasant or otherwise, all serve an important function - as you say, just as no emotion should ever be ignored, neither should an emotion be indulged ad infinatum. The surrealist and slightly anime-esque style of these recent videos is both poignant and effective, and gives a voice to an emotional undercurrent that may otherwise go unexpressed in this mask-based world we currently live in. Giving people catharsis in such a manner is an absolutely great idea.
P.S. I found your channel from your Love Who interview, and while I use any 'type code' loosely I have to say it's great to see an INTJ (INF-T) in touch with their true nature.

Congratulations Lana on 20K subs. I’ve followed you since your J. Peterson posts, ~3K subs. You deserve a following for your talent and insight. While I’ve made many mistakes, and more of omission rather than commission (it’s common to regret actions not taken more than those taken), for whatever reason I personally don’t harbor any regrets. I’ve always viewed my past as prologue, or at least now that I’ve matured, and looking back regretfully steals energy from the present. Perhaps it’s a subtle distinction, but acknowledging past mistakes without regret seems to me a little more balanced. Regarding Frankl’s “Man’s Search for Meaning,” it’s a profound book that bears reading and rereading. It shows that, even in the most horrific of circumstances, we still have the freedom to choose grace and even joy. I will mention that there is an Audible version; the narrator is superb.

I regret not hanging out with this girl I knew in highschool. She asked me so many times but at that time I had very bad anxiety and I couldn’t get myself to say yes and hang out with her. I’m sure if I would have went out with her, we would still be friends, I wouldn’t be as lonely as I am now, and my anxiety would have probably disappeared. But I am happy with who I am. I am lonely and still have a bit of social anxiety but I have improved a lot and might be a completely different person if I would have said yes. Either way I can’t go back in time so it does not matter anymore.

    • @00sra
      @00sra 4 года назад

Abhi Narayan the only way to over come something is by doing what you don’t want to. If your struggling with anxiety, just hang out with someone. If someone tells you to go out with them just say yes! It’s easier in highschool so just say yes to everyone. Yes yes yes!

This was a beautiful and reflective post. I do think regret can teach us quite a few things if we treat them with respect. However it can be easy to let regrets take a poisonous turn. I don’t particularly like the word ‘balance’ as it is often used in a way that diminish all the strenuous mental work. It’s easy to say to someone ‘you just need balance’ when in reality, the process of getting a certain psychological comprehension of your demons, is quite hard. This post just gave so much tranquil space for reflection and self examination. Beautifully done. Subscribed!

My biggest regret is living up to other people's expectation rather than my own. I had to sacrifice so much of my own time and happiness for theirs, and yet they are still never pleased with the results. I'm sorry I can't always be at the top of my class, be in the career field that you want me to be in, or meet your expected desired salary at my age.
They might have failed to succeed in their own life. That doesn't mean they should make up for it by controlling yours.

Ive tried answering this question for some time now and i always come to the same realization. To regret any single thing in my life is to negate where I am today. All the apparent “fuck ups” in my life, the relationships I scrutinized, the drug addictions etc etc. They have all led me to where I am today. I am far from perfect but I’m slightly better than I was yesterday and a fuck load better than I was a couple years ago.

My biggest regret is losing my best friend because I was busy making new friends. She would always be the one asking me if we should hang out, and it would rarely be the other way around. I tried to stay in contact during summer break until I found out she was trowing a birthday-party I wasn't invited to. When I moved school, she was miserable, because I was her only friend. But when she started at theater class and created new friendships there, she slowly stopped asking me if I wanted to hang out, and I did nothing to keep in contact.

Who is the "you" that feels regret? Certainly not the Supreme Self as the true identity beyond the illusory egoic games. There is no such thing as regret in the Loving Awareness of Pure Consciousness. Everything else is mind noise of "me and my story". Fleeting thoughts with no intrinsic existence unless attached to and identified with. Just drop it. Regret is suffering. Only used as a way to perpetuate the root suffering of beLIEf in a false seperate self. Have no fear - beneath the insecure regretful "you" that appears is nothing but Pure Love. 💓🦅⚡🌞🙏

I regret I never confessed about my rape, my Taekwondo coach kept molesting me for a year by touching my parts but after a year he raped me, i didn't know what to do and how to confess it to parents because I was 9 years old and I was so scared after that whenever someone touched me i got goosebumbs and my body temperature got lower like if I'm sleeping barely in Winter outside.
Then after 2 years that coach showed up and did the same to my friend's younger brother but he told his parents then they didn't take any action.
After all these 13 years, I've become so strong to deal these

I don't really regret my mistake, I wasn't patient enough to save up money, and then start my business, instead i tried to rush things and it cost me time, but that's ok since i've never stopped educating myself about what i do, and i can feel that now is my time, trust me guys, if you really want to change your life, it's all in the mind, i literally battled anxiety, through consistent work & effort i put in towards my goal my purpose my dream. It's ALL about habits, Exercise, Meditation and Books helped me a lot, but you have to make a decision to change your life and you have to visualize what you want and try to feel that joy, only then things will turn into your favor and your life will change for the better.

Oof the Degree regret one was hella relatable. Very nearly made that mistake because I was too focused on the money. I mean sure, I was good at it but it didn't feel like it would make a positive impact on the world. I want to help people and change lives, not just turn a pay check. Biggest thing education has taught me: trust your gut, usually it knows the better path loooong before your brain does. Now I've noticed why I've not felt fulfilled I can work on rewriting my story with a better chapter ❤️

Regret is a such an outdated word and needs to be null, void, discontinued.
There is a reason and lesson behind each and every experience. Everything has a purpose. Whatever choice you make in life, the purpose is to learn and grow as a person. How can we ever regret a learning experience? It could have be uncomfortable or difficult, but purposeful nonetheless. Love you Lana.

I regret failing my senior year.. I really feel sad and worthless even though I moved to another country a year ago and the whole year was really really hard cause its a different school system, new people, culture away from my friends that I grew up together and my parents tell me that I should be proud that I finished all the other subjects except one and its on another language that I am not fluent in ..but it honestly does not help. I feel really sad I can't eat, sleep and I got my period 12 day earlier because of stress and nothing helps to cheer me up.. I tried talking to my family and friends and I know I studied and everything but I feel so bad and I'm blaming myself and I cant remeber when in life I was so demotivated..there are worse things, I know, but why do I feel so broken..please if someone can help me to stop feeling like this it would mean the world to me . “Marry, and you will regret it; don’t marry, you will also regret it; marry or don’t marry, you will regret it either way. Laugh at the world’s foolishness, you will regret it; weep over it, you will regret that too; laugh at the world’s foolishness or weep over it, you will regret both. Believe a woman, you will regret it; believe her not, you will also regret it… Hang yourself, you will regret it; do not hang yourself, and you will regret that too; hang yourself or don’t hang yourself, you’ll regret it either way; whether you hang yourself or do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This, gentlemen, is the essence of all philosophy.” Kierkegaard. That's somewhat my life philosophy to live life to the fullest and just be in action because I will always have something to be regretful about.
