      I've done many martial arts litterally all my life since I was 3, but I started specifically focusing on internal side of various Chinese kung fu after breaking my back in multiple places, two separate times, specifically in the very lower back and where the spine meets the tailbone area, very painful i know but it obviously caused major issues but I never had any surgeries and as far as my spine im atleast 90 percent healed and what has healed is stronger than before.

    Fascinating and fantastic video as always. This is one of the harder elements to convey. Our slight upward tilt of the hip cradle [idea of "effortlessness"] greatly aids and frees our kicks. But the level you are seeking is even more difficult to achieve concerning maintaining openness of the spine down to individual vertebrae.
    Relaxing and sinking down [rather than trying to go "forward" on the kicks] is great advice. The spine being open and straight is vital. This is often how we can "see" those who are more advanced in the art. Their spine does not bend or deflect while their opponent does in Chi Sao. I often say: The Spine is the "hinge" of the door [arms & legs]. If the hinge of a door tilts or bends, the "doors" cannot open and close freely.
    While I am able to touch my leg to my chest [freely], I DEFINITELY have poor flexibility overall. Therefore, it IS as you say, the openness and proper relaxation of the joints allows freer movement. I have tight hip flexors [?] as well as some old injuries which makes CST's cross-leg touch of the shoulder [so far] out of my reach. I really should practice this more...
    One thought: Wing Chun hands "mirror" leg techniques, just as each side of the spine operates on "opposition" [reverse reflections], so too does the hip line operate on "inversion". So, treating the hips like inverted shoulders [both are slings, not levers] often helps. Careful consideration of this idea yields much.
    The "center" IS the "center" [seat of the soul]. Everything else is an aspect, a fractal reflection outward.
    The foot has a Tan Sao and a Bong Sao as well as the front kick which is much like the palm strike: the contact point and energy should mirror the hand. I find many improve when they stop "thinking" about their legs and just focus on the energy mirroring like the palm strikes. This means the same energy as well which leads to relaxation and imparting force only at the precise instant with mindful use of energy.
    Furthermore, the "crossing" arms section near the beginning of Siu Nim Tao is meant to express the idea of "crossing" in terms of energy but also the idea of "mirroring". This is part of why our stance in the first form is "mirrored" [goat stance etc...] as well as to save time. This "crossing" and spiraling energy around the "line" is a key idea as well for disarms [which saved my life against 2 knife attacks in closed quarters].
    In truth Wing Chun is more about converting or directing energy than movement. Movement is a result of intention. If the energy is right, the movement conforms and appears "perfect". Of course, this is easy to "say", but not to perform.
    Great, thought-provoking material! Thank you!
    I do have some thoughts on a topic you touch on near the end of this video. But they should be shared via email as they are off-topic. Take care and keep up the amazing work.

    Hi Nima, like seeing different theories of Wing Chun as that is what Wing Chun is about concepts and theories. I have been practicing Wing Chun for 30 years in October. We where tought Zhan Zhuang Qigong (Stand like a Tree) as well as Wing Chun and told Siu Nim Tau had part of its beginning within this. Who knows we were not there, but what I do is very similar to what Chu Shong Tin tought you. Not sure in my case if it's Siu Nim Tau or the Qigong as we done them together, but helped me with a spinal injury from parachuting in the Paras, and have seen some spectacular results from it. I am able to do the same exercise that your Master did but with two 50kg kettlebells. Thanks for your vids, keep up the good work bro 🤘👍

      Yes siu nim tao is a qi gong exercise, which basic means energy training, so anything involving internal work, awareness of the energy, accumulation of it and control over it is a Qigong exercise. Wing chun specifically has adapted those natural concepts and workings of the body to be useful and maximumly efficient for not only combat but life in general getting back to the true origins and purposes of martial arts, standing for what is good and right something certainly to be looked to and reflected upon more than ever in these days.

    Very wonderful stuff, just recently discovered you but been practicing wing chun and other kung fu for years. Also working your joints in this way ,allows the body to properly move the way it should, which itself can be very useful in fighting and healing, and if the goal is for healing lots of Qigong exercises ,done just like the siu nim tao you show is the best way, of course you would need to train to use it for fighting if you want to be able to do that

    • @MindfulWingChun
      @MindfulWingChun  3 года назад +1

      Glad you are finding these videos useful man. And yeah if we can tap into and control the joints in this way we are able to use our body more efficiently in all movements. And absolutely agree that one needs to put in the hours of correct practice when it comes to more difficult and dynamic scenarios (ultimately in self defense)

    • @willtherealrustyschacklefo3812
      @willtherealrustyschacklefo3812 3 года назад

      @@MindfulWingChun yes there's alot more that goes into it than most will do for sure, and especially on the wing chun, which I will say is by far my favorite btw I won't lie, it's based alot around training not only your natural reflexes and instincts to be useful but to also use the internal side to make the useful instincts powerful weapons ( filling and flowing and control of the energies inside your body, which is what does the healing, when your joints work properly especially with the standing practice youve talked about, that allows the energy all the other trainings build up to to fill the body and circulate around it to every cell and organ obviously the longer and especially more often you can keep a constant flow of that through the body there more and more it will heal

    • @willtherealrustyschacklefo3812
      @willtherealrustyschacklefo3812 3 года назад

      @@MindfulWingChun also ik many many people haven't understood a whole lot on the internal energies side, it's actually taken alot of work and finding what actually works and why for me to know what I do but the the different energies have different functions and purposes depending on the intention you talk about, the Chinese would call that yi and it is the actual physical power of your mind, and the siu nim tao teaches you to be aware of that energy first, and the control over the power of the mind is used to physically move that energy around through and even from one body to another.

  • @starshipdjs7524
    @starshipdjs7524 4 года назад +1

    From the concept of half of the body submerged in water where to do a kick, it should not be visible on the top half.
    This to me is what I call the insect engine, where moving the bottom half doesn't effect the bottom half, also the right side doesn't effect the left side.
    Same applies where moving the fingers alone, then adding the wrist, then elbow, then shoulder and so on.
    Where all body parts are linked together, the idea here is towards consciously having the control and coordination to move joints separately or in group at will.
    Especially learning and practicing this idea in Sil Lum Tau without using momentum.
    Where lets say as when an insect is on its back it still uses its limbs/arms and legs, showing that it is not reliant on the ground, such as with karate that draws enegy from the ground when striking.

    • @maximuslaurie5139
      @maximuslaurie5139 3 года назад +1

      Sometimes people can still see a low kick, but with the water thing that might be a good thing for power, because if you jerk your leg it would hurt or just not move. Actually I don't know that ground power is real. a lot of the times they claim to use it just because they have a low stance, but the movement is parallel to the ground when they step around and punch, so it doesn't seem like you could use it unless the motion was up and down. The normal force just goes straight up, so it might be used in a uppercut or something, but then that wouldn't be the wing Chun uppercuts. So he's right when he says its independent of the ground.

    I have one silly question. Does this means that kicking in this way won't worsen an L1 , S5 disc herniation. Can proper sil lim tao actually heal a disc herniation which is preventing the spine from bending.. its flexion intolerant.
    Now another question. If the disc herniation is preventing the spine from flexing..I.e spine is straight . Can this actually help in Sil lim tao ? Thanks for the video .

    • @MindfulWingChun
      @MindfulWingChun  Год назад

      it's not a silly question. I think best to check with your doctor and physio on the movements you can do but actually Tom, the tall guy in the vid had 2 disc herniation in his lumbar spine.
      Tom is running 15kms regularly and goes pretty hard in chisau sparring. but it took him a few months to build up the core and recover from the back injury.
      My answer from my personal experience is that yes, SNT done correctly will certainly help to heal the spine. Just ensure you keep the spine and pelvis in neutral and don't tilt the pelvis forward as many people mistakingly do I Wing Chun.
      And yes kicking in this way means the spine is not going to get compressed.

Basic beginning level, the next is awareness and use of your actual center of mass for balance attack exct , just getting into preparation for internal side and then also don't the attack your not just attacking the middle of the person but the internal energy is physically traveling to and attacking there internal center of mass not just the "center line" I understand the confusion tho I hope you find more understanding
