A very good point about being able to produce power into old age. Even in his early 70s (when I first met him), CST's short range striking power was remarkable even when he didn't do it at full speed.

thank you for sharing the info as always, we have divided the distances into 5 distance: Distance 1 = is a distance that neither your punches or your kicks can reach the opponent, you you will have to close the gap by jumping like superman jump, flying kicks and flying Knees. Distance 2 = is a distance that your kicks reach the opponent but not your hands, most of the Korean style martial arts Distance 3 = Is a distance that both kicks and Punches can reach the opponents, most of the MMA fighters try to manage this distance Distance 4 = is a distance that is too close for punches and kicks but you use elbows, knees, head and shoulders {the distance that you mentioned here in this vid) very effective with massive powers if used correctly. Distance 5 = is that you and your opponent are grappling and on the ground, wrestlers, BJJ, and all of these styles . We need to know the distances and learn to deal with them effectively other wise we will be growing as a one dimensional fighter .
Thats great and yup, totally agree. Gotta be able to cover every possibility to be an all rounded fighter. Best thing to do is to put in to practice and have a play with all arts!
Beautiful teaching! Spine [pole] force [like a tetherball around a fixed rod] is key. I notice you tap into this subconsciously while remaining centered and connected. Lewis engages his core and hip "wheel", but lacks your tight spine pivot and intention. The hips are like a steering wheel, but the slight "idea" of gripping along the anus [inside and around the lower spine] is the centrifugal element and power. This is highlighted in Chum Kiu pivots [or should be]. In the end, we should tighten [with intent, not tension] our circles so they seem like lines. This is often understated in Wing Chun circles [the Biu Jee punch which "seems" like a rounded boxing punch is actually driven by every (relaxed) joint, but particularly by spinal rotation]. These drills are vital. We should be able to focus force and send it regardless of distance. This can even be demonstrated in contact [no inch] to show how much instant power can be generated in the proper "state" [focused and directed intention]. Pressure points are vital in Wing Chun [especially against grapplers and knife attacks]. These are shown [as you know] in the forms [and especially the Wooden Dummy form] but require SPECIFIC intent [and the proper chi] to activate. If you are ever stateside in the US [NH area] let me know. Like most Wing Chun, it is easier demonstrated and felt than "described". There are certain points which will crumple a wrestler or BJJ practitioner which few seem to discuss. It saved my life in several occasions. Great video and thank you. I understand the mechanics [intellectually, at least], but have not achieved that level of control; I might be missing a certain intention. I use a wall bag to pressure test [and ensure my mass is loaded] in striking, but I'm thinking of building a tool to pressure test my pivoting knee in hopes of developing this type of force. You are right about the McGregor shoulder strike. Had he done it using the Wing Chun method it would have been far more devastating. This strike is used to "dislodge" [intention] the "wedge" of another Wing Chun practitioner. One exercise I use when training my children or others is to have the opponent walk into [and through if they can] a strike. The strike with little movement should crumple their structure and "stop" them. It should not "feed back" into the shoulder or otherwise or cause us to sway back. I think it works reasonably well, though pads are probably advisable as most lack your control of force. Either way, your videos make my day and remind me of my training so long ago. Yes the penatrative power can go through a pad or boxing glove too. However, to be able to pull it off in a live and dynamic scenario is not an easy thing to do and requires a lot of other kind of practices on top of this such as dynamic pad work, sparring etc.
He did actually comment afterward. According to him, he likes to feel things and goes out of his way to be the test dummy in all the martial arts workshops he attends :)
As I understood they key is to practice strike or kick in such a way, that rebounding force will not push yourself back. So all the effect goes into the opponent's body. But how you practice your punches and elbow strikes on a wall bag, when you try to pivot and throw your mass forward? Obviously you can't push the wall. So rebounding force is redirected to the ground? Or you relax after the impact? Or some combination of both?
@raimundasm Great questions. For the reason you mentioned, it's important to have a good wall bag that has give. I have found that BB gun pellets are the best and that's what we use. Sand is a bit too hard and doesn't have enough give. That, combined with allowing relaxed elasticity in the body will mean that you won't push yourself off balance and you can still transfer mass into the bag. The same is in the case of practcing the Dummy

Yes, wall bag and dummy have certain amount of flexibility and if you correctly measure how deep you want to penetrate with your strike there is no rebounding force, because your center of mass (COM) moves a short distance with your strike. But what happens if you punch harder than the wall bag "gives"? Probably there is no reason to make force penetrate too deep. But if you want to pressure test yourself for a scenario when you and your opponent are coming at each other but your opponent has a bigger mass. Is it correct that you should focus on maintaining your balance and verticality so you COM will shift back or turn a little bit?
@raimundasm yes, the COM will should turn in the situation. as you know, when weight is mobilized, it will produce more force than the weight itself, i.e. moving 60kgs in motion would knock over 100kgs that is static. Also, striking human flesh means your force can penetrate into the target without too much rebound (because a strike isn't the same as a push). Hope that makes sense.

Went back today for more punishment. Awesome and quick training methods that amazed me from the first hour of training that I had more grunt than I ever imagined.
We all know when can works for self-defense and street fighting along with Shaolin and other Kung Fu styles it all depends on the practitioner and Li martial arts
definitely, it all comes down to the practitioner. I used to work with bouncers that were not trained in any martial arts but were very natural and capable in street fighting
in all of the strikes, I'm trying to use the Center of Mass as the power source. So to move the COM and link that to the simultaneous movement of the joints
Hey mate, actually I do different things everyday and all done at different times. All up in a week I'd say there's around 20hrs of forms, a few hours of parent exercises and chisau, a couple of hours of pad work and a few more hours of other self training exercising like kicking preparations, mobilizations, stretching etc. I have done any sparring since before Covid-19 but will get back to that in time once a couple of injuries are healed up.

@@xxttakret9045 Actually CST used to do 10thousand punches not 1000 😅 and also 3000kicks... I do atleast 1000. Actually no need to count each one. Just do it at around 4to5punches per second so thats over 250 permitted. So in less than 5 minutes you will have done 1000. My student Lawrence did 10,000 on facebook live a few months ago just for fun. Took him around 50mins. And glad you enjoy the videos. will keep posting more here 😊
It depends of the type of Online school in my opinion. But the short answer is Yes, it does work if it's presented properly, and if the student actually puts it to practice. There are hundreds of people who are on our online school and some of them are teachers of wing chun and say that through the online school they have began to understand how to practice better and what the forms are about. Ultimately, if you're gonna do the online school, you should still find a training partner (after the first couple of months) to practice Chisau and all other partner exercises that are presented in the program. the best thing to do is to take advantage of the Free month we have going for the Covid-19. Click on the channel and watch the first video and follow the steps to activity a free month and then you can decide for yourself 😊

I wish I could find a wing chun class that's willing to pressure test. Mine hasn't even done it. They've talked about it but not done it. Now they're wanting to have bjj into the curriclum. Nothing wrong with it but it is as if they're not working out wing chun to its fullest.
We are open to it man. Are you based in HK? But we also do Bjj so if you are looking to test the ground work of Wing Chun testing what we do wouldn't prove it :) But yes, you are right that unfortunately majority of the Wing CHun schools are not open to pressure testing from outsiders which as you said they are not working out Wing Chun Kung Fu to the fullest!

My experience was from when I was bouncing in Sydney before moving to Hong Kong. Perhaps there are still footage from the security cameras in the clubs but I don't have them and wouldn't share them on this channel if I did 😅

I don't know guy. I perceive that you know your art very well, but your art is not good enough for all types of fighters. Let me explain. I am not talking about the techniques you can use in a fight, but about what seems to be a lack of understanding in regards to what the brain is able to do and not able to do. To begin with, your eyes in connection to your brain do NOT interpret fast strikes as fast as needed to prevent their purpose (I'm not talking about poor strikes of course). If an experienced streetfighter wants to hit you badly, his strikes will not be known to you. As his first strike is closing a distance very fast, your eyes see it, but the brain does not comprehend the type of strike, the closing speed, so what will eventually happen is the weight and power of say one arm is something that your senses will also suddenly have to deal with and then attempt some type of strike. All this in 1-3 seconds. A boxer in a such an attack is trained to move back or jump to the side or cover up and take the first colision no matter what the strike is, he doesn't need to realize the type of the strike to use his techniques, but if I'm not mistaken, your system - at the end - almost ignores such parameters as if it is somehow sure it can overcome them by standing there. A very fast hook or even a hay maker even if blocked somehow will destroy structure (not in theory, but in reality, because we are real people not just a theory!) and you would have to get yourself first under control to deal with another of his strikes or to punch/hit him. In lesser words, your system is to rigid for reality, it does not go with the natural way which is to freely, easily move yourself out of the way, but whatever movement it allows it is restricted to keeping particular structure/s; it doesn't take proper account of the chaos in an attack/fight something that would change the strategy of the system. Everything is fine and dandy if we first initiate an attack while someone is not expecting it, or if the attacker is not that fast or decisive (less focus and intent, usually not experienced or trained) or just standing in front of us at the ideal range maybe. But you know very well, we can't train a system for these convenient cases only. The system has to NOT JUST ALLOW for a different approach (no kidding, naturally a person will adapt as better as he can than what the system offers), but to PREPARE ITS DEFENDER with proper technique, strategy and METHODOLOGY. Otherwise it's incomplete as a system, simply lacking, and wing chun is just that. Sure you can claim you have it all figured out, but any bare knuckle fight like this ruclips.net/video/TpMWnHtws3w/видео.html or this ruclips.net/video/eyzzDkYJojA/видео.html WILL PROVE YOU WRONG, but it may not prove wrong boxing, jujitsu or wrestling (which seems close to how they fight; those type practitioners will have way more possibilities of winning in such a fight with trained - streetfighters like these guys). Trust me, I can bring more variables such as how the system trains to strike again and again if you have to... there we can see it lacking also. Or how it handles a punch making contact with the face or with the body (an issue of conditioning, understanding, psychology and methodology ). Having said all that, if you want to save your system (since there is some potential in it for easy attackers), you have to open your mind and 1) accept your system is lacking in today's world, 2) your system needs an upgrade in strategy and methodology and therefore, 3) new techniques. You are not to serve the system (as you seem desperately to be doing), but the system should serve you.
Perfectly said unless you cross train with a some type of actual ring or mma art it will never work. Some of the really good wing Chun guys already have done that look at Chris Collins awesome wing Chun but also has boxing and bjj added this guy can bang! Others like Rick Spain same deal and then you have Bruce Lee who changed it and added other stuff to it.
Umm ok. I personally have used this method in REAL situations when working as a bouncer. There are a handful other teachers of this lineage who are/where bouncers. In a real situation we dont just stand there and talk and strike in this way. This is a SEMINAR to EXPLAIN the mechanics and methods of striking in this system. We train with boxers and 3 of us also train bjj and grappling with a local Carlson Gracie team here in Hong Kong. I do appreciate and thank you taking your time to comment with such great detail and share your opinion. the only way to actually test and trial these stuff is to actually meet and touch hands, otherwise its just words being typed on a keyboard. Chris Collins can bang? really? that's news to us here in Hong Kong. BTW, he made up great tales about being deployed as a marine to Afghanistan and got in trouble for lying a few months back and everyone in HK knows about it now. Also no one knows where his brown belt came from as he disappeared after getting his purple belt and then popped out at Clark Gracie's 9th Black belt after paying the right amount of cash to Clark. So, you can believe he can bang if you like but we here who are around him know better. He is a great marketer and movie guy and you my friend have been sold a great story and are believing the hype. Have nothing against the guy and not saying he can't defend himself, but after knowing these facts perhaps you will think twice about believing what he has and hasn't done. Rick Spain is legit as I know a couple of guys who who him from Sydney...

I've actually never met an mma fighter that really impressed me. The pros are top athletes, so they are good even without a good system. I mean they could beat you up because they are fit and practice hitting stuff. But new students don't get competitively good until they get fit. at the time I only had three years of tae kwon do, several years before, which maybe we will agree was only slightly beneficial, but then 9 months of wing Chun, actually it was 2 or 3 periods of a few months. With a few breaks. Anyway I could beat all the teachers (they were students too) of martial arts you see in MMA. My point is they had been training longer and considered themselves good enough to teach. We weren't beating each other up, but with only two forms and a few hand drills, I only got hit 3 times in 3 fights. Maybe I hit 100 times. But not to hurt them. It was just bizarre, I went from having bad coordination and balance to being better than all these athletes, the judo people had trouble throwing me when I just stood there, and the strikers just couldn't beat my directness. So over and over Wing Chun takes faster paths. there's no reason why punches can't be made more direct and land much more reliably. They just don't. Actually it was proved that a granny shot is better than an asymmetrical free throw. But no one uses it because they don't want to look like a pussy. Meanwhile I hold my hands over by chest like im trying to not get groped, and I always defend, always attack. This kung fu is very honest, it really works!
U need to persue test it. & Not at the Gym man on the streets. I'm sure U would do well. But really .U have no contact unlike real boxing. U simple won't have the heart. This is what all mashall arts is lacking. Most people who go to a mashall art school are people who are week .and they some how get tought fake confidents. Then they just hurt on the street pub where ever. Don't teach them fake confidents

in all of the strikes, I'm trying to use the Center of Mass as the power source. So to move the COM and link that to the simultaneous movement of the joints

Hey mate, actually I do different things everyday and all done at different times. All up in a week I'd say there's around 20hrs of forms, a few hours of parent exercises and chisau, a couple of hours of pad work and a few more hours of other self training exercising like kicking preparations, mobilizations, stretching etc.
I have done any sparring since before Covid-19 but will get back to that in time once a couple of injuries are healed up.

Your videos are always very interesting, i ask because I remember you saying 1000 punches a day with kicks and I wondered what that would look like, how do you keep count of the punches? Again thank your early videos with your sifu actually got me to start martial arts and it has really changed my life
@@xxttakret9045 Actually CST used to do 10thousand punches not 1000 😅 and also 3000kicks...
I do atleast 1000. Actually no need to count each one. Just do it at around 4to5punches per second so thats over 250 permitted. So in less than 5 minutes you will have done 1000.
My student Lawrence did 10,000 on facebook live a few months ago just for fun. Took him around 50mins.

It depends of the type of Online school in my opinion. But the short answer is Yes, it does work if it's presented properly, and if the student actually puts it to practice. There are hundreds of people who are on our online school and some of them are teachers of wing chun and say that through the online school they have began to understand how to practice better and what the forms are about.
Ultimately, if you're gonna do the online school, you should still find a training partner (after the first couple of months) to practice Chisau and all other partner exercises that are presented in the program.

I wish I could find a wing chun class that's willing to pressure test. Mine hasn't even done it. They've talked about it but not done it. Now they're wanting to have bjj into the curriclum. Nothing wrong with it but it is as if they're not working out wing chun to its fullest.
We are open to it man. Are you based in HK? But we also do Bjj so if you are looking to test the ground work of Wing Chun testing what we do wouldn't prove it :) But yes, you are right that unfortunately majority of the Wing CHun schools are not open to pressure testing from outsiders which as you said they are not working out Wing Chun Kung Fu to the fullest!

He says "alot of what happens in a fight" makes you think he has experience using these techniques in an actual fight. Can I see a video of him using this stuff in a real fight? Unfortunately these type of videos always shows things that supposed work in theory. Some actual proof would be nice....
My experience was from when I was bouncing in Sydney before moving to Hong Kong. Perhaps there are still footage from the security cameras in the clubs but I don't have them and wouldn't share them on this channel if I did 😅

I don't know guy. I perceive that you know your art very well, but your art is not good enough for all types of fighters. Let me explain. I am not talking about the techniques you can use in a fight, but about what seems to be a lack of understanding in regards to what the brain is able to do and not able to do. To begin with, your eyes in connection to your brain do NOT interpret fast strikes as fast as needed to prevent their purpose (I'm not talking about poor strikes of course). If an experienced streetfighter wants to hit you badly, his strikes will not be known to you. As his first strike is closing a distance very fast, your eyes see it, but the brain does not comprehend the type of strike, the closing speed, so what will eventually happen is the weight and power of say one arm is something that your senses will also suddenly have to deal with and then attempt some type of strike. All this in 1-3 seconds. A boxer in a such an attack is trained to move back or jump to the side or cover up and take the first colision no matter what the strike is, he doesn't need to realize the type of the strike to use his techniques, but if I'm not mistaken, your system - at the end - almost ignores such parameters as if it is somehow sure it can overcome them by standing there. A very fast hook or even a hay maker even if blocked somehow will destroy structure (not in theory, but in reality, because we are real people not just a theory!) and you would have to get yourself first under control to deal with another of his strikes or to punch/hit him. In lesser words, your system is to rigid for reality, it does not go with the natural way which is to freely, easily move yourself out of the way, but whatever movement it allows it is restricted to keeping particular structure/s; it doesn't take proper account of the chaos in an attack/fight something that would change the strategy of the system. Everything is fine and dandy if we first initiate an attack while someone is not expecting it, or if the attacker is not that fast or decisive (less focus and intent, usually not experienced or trained) or just standing in front of us at the ideal range maybe. But you know very well, we can't train a system for these convenient cases only. The system has to NOT JUST ALLOW for a different approach (no kidding, naturally a person will adapt as better as he can than what the system offers), but to PREPARE ITS DEFENDER with proper technique, strategy and METHODOLOGY. Otherwise it's incomplete as a system, simply lacking, and wing chun is just that. Sure you can claim you have it all figured out, but any bare knuckle fight like this ruclips.net/video/TpMWnHtws3w/видео.html or this ruclips.net/video/eyzzDkYJojA/видео.html WILL PROVE YOU WRONG, but it may not prove wrong boxing, jujitsu or wrestling (which seems close to how they fight; those type practitioners will have way more possibilities of winning in such a fight with trained - streetfighters like these guys).
Trust me, I can bring more variables such as how the system trains to strike again and again if you have to... there we can see it lacking also. Or how it handles a punch making contact with the face or with the body (an issue of conditioning, understanding, psychology and methodology ).
Having said all that, if you want to save your system (since there is some potential in it for easy attackers),
you have to open your mind and
1) accept your system is lacking in today's world,
2) your system needs an upgrade in strategy and methodology and therefore,
3) new techniques.
You are not to serve the system (as you seem desperately to be doing), but the system should serve you.
Perfectly said unless you cross train with a some type of actual ring or mma art it will never work. Some of the really good wing Chun guys already have done that look at Chris Collins awesome wing Chun but also has boxing and bjj added this guy can bang! Others like Rick Spain same deal and then you have Bruce Lee who changed it and added other stuff to it.

Umm ok. I personally have used this method in REAL situations when working as a bouncer. There are a handful other teachers of this lineage who are/where bouncers. In a real situation we dont just stand there and talk and strike in this way. This is a SEMINAR to EXPLAIN the mechanics and methods of striking in this system. We train with boxers and 3 of us also train bjj and grappling with a local Carlson Gracie team here in Hong Kong. I do appreciate and thank you taking your time to comment with such great detail and share your opinion. the only way to actually test and trial these stuff is to actually meet and touch hands, otherwise its just words being typed on a keyboard. Chris Collins can bang? really? that's news to us here in Hong Kong. BTW, he made up great tales about being deployed as a marine to Afghanistan and got in trouble for lying a few months back and everyone in HK knows about it now. Also no one knows where his brown belt came from as he disappeared after getting his purple belt and then popped out at Clark Gracie's 9th Black belt after paying the right amount of cash to Clark. So, you can believe he can bang if you like but we here who are around him know better. He is a great marketer and movie guy and you my friend have been sold a great story and are believing the hype. Have nothing against the guy and not saying he can't defend himself, but after knowing these facts perhaps you will think twice about believing what he has and hasn't done. Rick Spain is legit as I know a couple of guys who who him from Sydney...

Most arts have good teachers in the USA... all depends upon the art and the teacher. The best are rare... Where do you live?

@@gerardocovarrubias1127 Plenty of good Wing Chun in the USA, but I don't know of any CST stuff in the States. Houston Ving Chun in Cyprus, TX came up on a Google search.
Learn MMA boxing instead...it's effective, practical during actual combat; beautiful forms don't work, but bad ass boxing works

I've actually never met an mma fighter that really impressed me. The pros are top athletes, so they are good even without a good system. I mean they could beat you up because they are fit and practice hitting stuff. But new students don't get competitively good until they get fit. at the time I only had three years of tae kwon do, several years before, which maybe we will agree was only slightly beneficial, but then 9 months of wing Chun, actually it was 2 or 3 periods of a few months. With a few breaks. Anyway I could beat all the teachers (they were students too) of martial arts you see in MMA. My point is they had been training longer and considered themselves good enough to teach. We weren't beating each other up, but with only two forms and a few hand drills, I only got hit 3 times in 3 fights. Maybe I hit 100 times. But not to hurt them. It was just bizarre, I went from having bad coordination and balance to being better than all these athletes, the judo people had trouble throwing me when I just stood there, and the strikers just couldn't beat my directness. So over and over Wing Chun takes faster paths. there's no reason why punches can't be made more direct and land much more reliably. They just don't. Actually it was proved that a granny shot is better than an asymmetrical free throw. But no one uses it because they don't want to look like a pussy. Meanwhile I hold my hands over by chest like im trying to not get groped, and I always defend, always attack. This kung fu is very honest, it really works!
U need to persue test it. & Not at the Gym man on the streets. I'm sure U would do well. But really .U have no contact unlike real boxing. U simple won't have the heart. This is what all mashall arts is lacking. Most people who go to a mashall art school are people who are week .and they some how get tought fake confidents. Then they just hurt on the street pub where ever. Don't teach them fake confidents

Man, I recommend you use your time to do something productive for your self. lift yourself up, help those around you. you will feel better and it will help with any feelings of insecurities and inadequacies that may have been formed in childhood. I know myself from self experience.
