    Most people don’t know how much pressure is at the contact point of GM Chu, even more pressure here as his demonstrating on experienced Wing Chun practitioners that is relaxed. You really need to feel it. Great video, thanks for sharing.

      Yes it's definitely gotta be felt to be believed. Some people categorize what Master Chu did with some other masters who have very compliant students that go flying back with the slightest movements, But what CST did was very real and extremely powerful. It didnt matter what type of force we used to try and stop him from mmoving and how much bigger the opponent was, he would just slice through them as if doing it with no effort :)

    I live in Brazil, in the city there is no wing chun. I was black belt, Taekwondo, brown wm karate styles, I made muay thai, and I say that wing chun is very efficient, but most do not train with every principle that the art demands. How blessed you are to have trained with the Grand Master.

    Great video. Thank you. We are fortunate there is footage of CST as the internal side of Wing Chun needs to be explored. The shoulder is so important. After much difficulty, I've begun to use this analogy: the shoulder is more sling than lever. It needs to "hang"; if it is not seated it is "disconnected" from the structure.
    Focus is more important than force. While CST demonstrates incredible force, there is also a specificity to "where" [and how] he transmits his force to the opponent's center. Wing Chun students should pay attention to where force "binds" in the body and to also consider finger position and how even the fingers can reroute and redirect opponent's force to "feed back" to the body. There are many "ideas" employed [from what I can see in CST's methods]. His mastery of the small details and effects make it difficult to translate what he is doing. He does more than just "center". He uses other "ideas" and these ideas need to be present [all at once] when we perform Siu Nim Tao. At first adding one at a time with recognition in how the character of the movement changes subtly when focused on "line" or "rising" energy. When the energy is fully realized, one will sense a different "state" where we feel the energy as if an electrical charge over the body coupled with a "flow". CST could change this flow [noticeably]; this is a rare level of understanding, but vital to the future and effectiveness of Wing Chun. Movement is a result of intent. Form FOLLOWS function. Function is a product of "idea" or mind. In the end, structure will not be required to produce effect.
    I appreciate your commentary on this remarkable man. It's also great to see his students carry on the tradition. Thank you.

    Good stuff Nima. I liked the verbal breakdown of the different techniques. Pretty cool how he was able to break someone's structure with such minimal effort.

      yeah he was at just on another level in terms of body control. The fact that he was so skinny and light also makes it more impressive (and hard to believe for some). Now its up to us to try and follow in his footsteps and see where we can take this thing :)

    These are fantastic grabs Nima from many different sessions. I really enjoyed the way you’ve broken them down with clear explanations. I always recalled the the minimal amount of effort required when a movement was performed correctly. ( to Sigungs satisfaction ) . It often made me think how easily an novice may be able to execute a strike perfectly because they weren’t trying . Quite by accident great power could be generated . Amazing stuff.

      Thanks for kind words Rob. And yes I also think about that often, the fact that when a student is not trying and simply does the movement how much more power it has, naturally. This I believe is a huge obstacle to many of the practitioners of our lineage; they over think and categorize everything and end up being stuck in the head and while they may be able to produce some power with single movements, it all goes out the door during chisau or other dynamic exercises cause they cant 'think' about all the movements that fast.

    This looks like a Zen technique I was shown years ago (roughly translated 'unbreakable arm'). Its a way to learn how to use your whole body with minimal muscle and just joint, tendon, skeletal structure. You start by learning how to redirect force through the arm; by placing your hand on a partners shoulder (while they face you). They then use both hands a pull down on your elbow joint (harder and harder).
    By visualising stretching your fingers into 'infinity' (like they really are stretching away from you) but never really moving your arm. You first learn to resist the pull down by your partner (while using no/minimal muscle strength). After you can do that, you learn to redirect the partners downwards force onto their own shoulder (through your arm/hand).
    So, the more they try to push your elbow down ..the more pressure is on their shoulder (forcing them down instead). High level body mechanics study :)
    Once you figure this out with the arm, it can be applied anywhere on the body with training. Allowing you to stop anyone pushing (or pulling your arms) effectively. And allows you to push through someone with seemingly no force (making 'martial' techniques easier). It takes years to cover the whole body, and there are lots of subtle developments that come from this training.
    imho - Chu Shong Tin is showing a high level of this idea

      @@MindfulWingChun I started with Sifu Jim back in 1989 , trained up to LVL 1 then trained with Sifu Derek Fung full time for 2 years. Was blessed to travel to HK and train with Sigung a few times and attended seminars in OZ at Sifu Jim's and Sifu Susana's academy. I have not trained formally for over 2o years but still practice SLT form and teach my kids. Good luck with your school Nima - you look like your doing an awesome job carrying on Sigung's legacy.

    The exstreem power felt through Wing Chun makes people that are highly trained in other arts simply drop their training and switch to Wing Chun after feeling it for the first time. It is a principle baced art that uses structure and body mechanics plus the transition flow of energy instead of fighting it out types of systems that use many forms and katas Wing Chun uses physics as the problem solver! The people that think it's fake and won't work ether never felt the power of it or had an unqualified person give them somekind of unimpressive demonstration my first experience with Wing Chun through me back 12 feet with a one inch punch and I was hooked

      Very well put Jarrod. And yes I have had a few very experienced martial artists including a couple of MMA practitioners sign up after a 15 minute 1on1 and hands on demonstration.     I love those internal force and relaxation of your shoulder and use your elbow and strength from the ground to your waist and then make a move. I also see video saying Chu Shong Tin did some real fighting and sparring in the old days. However by the amount of video and teaching from Chu Shong Tin teaching internal force / resistance etc compare to him teaching combat fighting/ sparring, I think he didn't give much thought on sparring. I am hope I am wrong.

      Actually he had a lot of challenge fights in his early years. And he encourage his students in the first couple of decades to get in the ring and take challenge fights. However, in the last decade of his life he announced that he will only be training people to achieve Nim Tao (the internal aspect) and d=these are the years that the cameras were all out on him. There are a couple of videos of his students sparring with pad on somewhere on Facebook (taken in the 70s)

    Nima, I am intrigued by his force generation. It seems different to Taiji also he seems to have activation of his tendons and joints. Did he ever use this for healing.?

      Hi Anthony yes he was also a healer. He was a Chinese bone setter so he used this ability in healing ppl's joint and connective tissue problems

    Your method of training is exactly what today's people like me who study and work day and night work with because it is exactly what educated people do in a mindful way.. Mindfulness can give you everything in life.. Siguong Chu Shong Tin taught his students not only the structure but also being minful.. In fact though Wing Chun is a functional martial art, when you know the functional part you can make the maximum effect with Minfulness.. Just like you said Bruce Lee could make maximum effects inspite of using muscles because he had a mindful part too and when he mixed up all martial arts he was mindful with quotes.. Actually mindfulness can have the universe and it can make endless power to demolish everything and Wing Chun is a complete functional art that teaches you everything from balance to rotation that are our modern lifestyle's essentialityes.. Soft Chi and Hard Chi both can make the maximum effect with minfulness..

    I can speak for what's happening here but something I've come to understand after a long time is the difference between pushing a motion and pulling a motion.
    Pulling allows unification of the body and all movements, and can be applied in any direction for any movements, including strikes. But pushing, even though arm and other things are used, is mostly shoulder and legs, with the rest of the body locking to try and maintain position to function more like a wedge.
    If you use a "pushing" energy for your blocks or strikes, your power kinks at the shoulder. This makes it extremely difficult to effect another person structure. But when you pull, the movement is linked to the legs through the chest, back, and waist, making it suddenly very easy instead.
    That's my experience at least.

    Could CST mind force lift or push heavy objects? Does it affect non living things? I know he is no longer with us. But this subject fascinates me.

      Hi Tommy, yes he could and did. That's the thing, it's not just like Taichi or other 'internal' arts than need a partner to connect to, to be able to show power. The CST method is simply the most efficient way to utilize your musculoskeletal system. He used to go to the New Territories (an area in Hong Kong that was under construction back in those days) and fill up construction bags full of rocks and small concrete slabs. He guessed that each bag filled would weight around 50kg. He used to hold one full bag in each arm and hold it out to the side of his body and experiment on how to move using his joint and center of mass.
      He was also able to to the 'human flag' where you hand your body parallel to the ground with the arms straight. He was able to hold the sandbag (hanging bag for striking) that was 30kgs between his legs and do lots of pull-ups. And there are plenty more things... I've started to experiment with things like this and will hopefully put up some videos of my experiments in due time :)
      By the way if you are really interested in this method of practice you should really check out our online school that takes t=you through it step by step.       Its pretty rare to have 2 people with the exact same skills in all aspects. But if their internal abilities, techniques, speed and all other skill levels were the same, then of course the bigger (heavier) person would win as he would have more power...

    I'm open to convincing but many of the demonstrations I've seen look to me as though the subject is being programmed to initially push in the wrong direction by CST saying 'look this is physical strength', but then when doing it "correctly" applies force in a different direction. There's maybe less of that in this video, but for example at ruclips.net/video/1rfiBhcn_OU/видео.html initially, CST leans forward (you can see his head move relative to the TV behind), that causes you to push back in his direction (or else you'd fall backwards), at that moment CST pulls down and back, a direction which you are now assisting.
    And the problem with redirecting force (however it's achieved) is that in real situations no-one applies force slowly. Even pushes are sudden and violent so there's barely time to even deflect let redirect. Your lineage offers the claim to basically crush someones chi sao structure and drive through. So that ought to work against a skilled grappler. A demo against a wrestler, grappler who's not a student would constitute evidence but you'd have to go looking for them because your encounters are likely to be with self selecting potential believers (i.e. unconsciously compliant) otherwise.

      It's not easy to understand let alone believe this stuff until it is felt. I was body building and working doors at club when I first met Chu Shong Gin in a seminar. I had my life, family and friends in Sydney, and had been practicing Wing Chun for 6years and using it for work. I would say that it's was a fully external method of Wing Chun.
      When people said he is coming to visit and said he was powerful, I was very skeptical. Long story short, What I felt what he could do at the seminar made me drop everything in Sydney and move to Hong Kong just so I can train under him. It was unbelievable even when I was feeling it and it took me time to begin to grasp what was going on.
      So, it's not BS or fake. It can be done at speed but it's harder to do in a fast and dynamic situation.
      Re doing it again a grappler, actually I practice bjj so I do get to use it in stand up grappling. It's too difficult to use it (at least for me at the moment), once on the ground and my hip is controlled.
      Thanks for taking the time to share your opinion and I know ppl don't believe this stuff and are right to be skeptic as there is a lotta fake shite out there. but it is remarkable what the human body can do and that is subject being discussed here...

      Mindful Wing Chun I’ve been practicing a relaxation exercise for a year now. I do it before going to sleep and upon waking up. It’s the most interesting and compelling thing I’ve ever done. It’s mind blowing at times even. What’s even more interesting is that It led me to the expansion of the gates/joints/vectors/bows WHATEVER one chooses to call them. All I know is that my awareness has become a major component in everything I do. I’ve also met soooo many people too which I find interesting. I just wish they would all see that we are all looking for the same thing and not let the ego smash all the efforts being made. 😉. You, John K, Dai Kwoon David, Mark Ho, and John Cogan are all wonderful people! ❤️

    Your explanation at 2.34 about bouncing is incorrect. you are looking at it from one angle. The hit from CST to various students react differently. You forgot other teachers have higher level. CST is more on structure level. When one bounce it is more on Qi level.

      Yeah mate, I'm not one to delete comments. I'm confident in what I do and know that it works. I've spend over 20thousand hours doing this thing and spent 10thousand of those hours training intimately with the best there was. So yeah, not one to hide behind the keyboard and delete people's comments. Also, I don't really wanna spend time or energy 'convincing' people. I put these videos to share with those who are hungry for the info. I do seminars and workshops globally and everyone knows that I'm very open to being tested out in person :) Nima

      FWIW, I'd be interested to know how you think what you do differs from what someone like Mizner does. Also, whether you can get opponents to stick to you like that. He says that putting his "internal" thing inside another structure, e.g. WC, would lessen its effectiveness.

      @@robertbrown1778 The making someone else stick to you thing is not real if that's why ppl really mean, as in if you touch them they cant move. However, if they mean that they feel like they dont want to disengage because know they will get hit then its correct. I.e. when I chisau, the opponent will feel like they are stuck in that if they disengage they will get hit. But not sure if other arts have this ability of triangulation and 'Huerng' through the centerline.
      I've touched hands with most famous Taichi and internal teachers and my structure stays fine :)

      @@MindfulWingChun Well, it doesn't look like it's fear of getting hit that stops them disengaging. It *looks* more like he takes their balance and they can't disengage because they'll fall over...or something. So you're saying Mizner's demos are "not real"?

      @@robertbrown1778 Not saying Mizners demos arent real. I've met him and he is skillful. But it's not possible to touch someone and have it so they cant disengage. Not possible...

    I see nothing hard to explain here. It has to do with angles, thehight of the arm extended and the point of contact.

    His striking and hit were there are pivoting points i can do this and i have actually done this more the other person tenses up the more the pivoting point comes moveable this is basic physics nothing really special is special but nothing new.

      @@MindfulWingChun I have seen all the tricks of the trade the invovle in martial I have been student of martial arts at the age of 8 years.bruce Lee method and teaching makes more sense to me martial arts is for combat even yip man as against this kind of showman ship,martial arts is for combat this my belief when it comes to a fight non of this will work just my opinion my view,

      @@suleymankamran1161 That's fine and everyone is entitled to their view and opinion. I have personally used Wing Chun on the streets many times and my students fight in comps. So I don't have an opinion and know that it works.
