You’re so cute😬 first year teacher for the Bronx here🙈 came across your channel while looking for what to expect as a teacher in NYC🥰 love the realness!
You have a fan here, Mr Barrella. I’m considering applying for the Teaching Fellows. Looking forward to more candid videos from you. I’m getting a lot of valuable insight about the job. Thank you, man! Keep up the good work.
Hi. Thank you very much. Questions: What does it cost to rent a 1 bdrm around Pace U. Are all Fellows sent to Pace U. Anyone at NYU or Columbia? After 6 weeks of summer, they send you to a school in NYC, yes? Did you get a 4000 dollar paycheck each month after 6 weeks when working at the school? What percentage dropped out? What percentage got declined a school position after 6 weeks? How long do you need to work at the assigned school? How long do you need to study at Pace to get the teaching certificate? Thank you so much for your time and knowledge.
Barella these videos are very important please keep sharing more info especially on things like demo lessons for teaching positions, how to get through PST, and life after the summer.
Thank you ,I appreciate your experience. I just applied and nervous maybe I should meet up with you at pace one day and get some more info. what kind of lesson plan did you do for your interview and how did it go.
Hi I’m actually attending the selection day Jan 30 can you give me any advice on how to approach the lesson plan and that day. Thank you! Side not you cracked me up the entire time thanks for being real
practice your lesson over and over in front of a mirror and friends. I cannot give you specifics because we signed a contract, but make sure your lesson does not exceed 5min. Good luck!
Matthew Grimsley they make you take it before the training is over. If you don’t pass all the exams, the schools hire you as a full time sub. After two years, they will remove you if you don’t pass both exam.
Hi Mr. Barella, thank you so much for posting these videos. I passed my first step of application and now preparing myself for selection day interview. My assigned area is biology 7-12 and I am also located in Queens. What school are you teaching in right now? Also, I already have a masters degree in education, would they make me do masters in biology? What’s your major for masters?
Thank you for this video! I am doing phone interview this Sat, and everything you talked about here is pretty much what I expected it would be like but your positivity and break down of your experience is even more motivating
As a New York City public school teacher entering my 12th year, I decided to make a feature film about my first 3 yrs as a teacher. The film is available on Amazon and Vimeo: Trailer: ruclips.net/video/aVzWwsB6q9s/видео.html
Thanks for the video, great insight you provided. I have my "Selection Day" this Saturday, but i'm having second thoughts. I'm not sure if i'm too old for this program, I have 17 years experience in another field, and I think for the most part participants are somewhat younger. To be honest, I would love to become a NYC teacher to help out the community, but the financial aspect of the job for someone that is just starting is definitely a road block. Thanks for keeping it real though, you seem to be having a lot of fun
Hey Y’all We should create a space for cohort 33 to talk to one another in the past years they used livejournal. I got accepted for SPED 7-12 at CCNY I can’t wait I also have a few interviews for a teaching position I’m getting a 30 min demo lesson ready
hey Andre! im currently in the process of becoming a teaching fellow. I am stuck on the lesson plan because I am not sure if I should gear my lesson toward the population in my subject area which is Sp Ed or should i gear it more toward a gener education aspect. Any pointers will be helpful!
