Dans la Suède nous avons la scanne qui s'appelle Skåne en suédois mais la région est comme la Bretagne. La Scanne a été un région danois donc leur dialecte est très unique. Ils ont aussi un drapeau, s'est rouge avec un crois jaune.

A little correction, la coiffe bigoudène that you showed was only restricted to a few villages in the pays Bigouden in Western Brittany. In the whole region of Brittany, there is a tradition of beautiful coiffes but they aren't the big standing one, they generally don't stick out much.
Women wearing that particular coiffe is like French people wearing marinières with bérets. Even during traditional celebrations, you're very unlikely to see someone honestly wear that, unless this person is actually trying to be stereotypical.

Ahhh..this explains something to me. I found a lovely cup in a local charity shop here in the south west Ireland, and bought it because of my love of all things french. It depicts all those elements of Brittany that you mentioned. The lady in the tall hat, the Celtic symbols (of which Ireland also was in history) but the words " c'est Breizh" confused me because I hadn't come across zh in my french learning.. oh and the cup is black and white. I'm very pleased now that the mystery of my newly found cup is solved. 😅 Thanks😊 I could have googled but what fun is that!

I came here to learn more about the Breton culture and customs, but I must say I really enjoyed your repetition of French sentences for pronunciation reasons. Honestly, this is the most engaged I have ever been with the French language. I learned some French in school but I got frustrated with the pronunciation which is so different to English although many of the words are the same, but you did a really great job. I wlll definitely subscribe. Thank you 🙂

I've often felt that Mont St Michel and the region around St James should be returned to Brittany, but on the other hand Lower Normandy is populated by Bretons anyway (so the DNA says). Moreover, for historic and genetic reasons, I reckon the whole of Pays de Loire should be transferred to Brittany too, as it was in the days of King Alan. And all those towns in "France" beginning with "Bret" or named after St Albinus of Vannes. Long story short, let's rename all of France "Brittany". And of course the British Isles, North America, Australia and New Zealand, too. :) Long reign the Ermine!

Salut! On s'amusait bien ! Je veux rentrer bientôt. (J'ai vraiment besoin de pratiquer et d'améliorer mon français - je pense qu'il y a beaucoup des erreurs dans ce commentaire.) D'une Irlandaise au Canada

Right next door to Britanny, is something I find remarkable. Le passage de Gois, a road under tide level. Going out to sea, to the Island.
What puzzies me is why the locals havn't discovered the amphibious cars? They have been around for a while. It seems to me that this would be ideal if there's a chance the tide might come in before you reach your destinition.

When my wife and I were in Paris in 2008, we couldn't get past the queue at the Eiffel Tower, so we went to the Montparnasse Tower instead. It gave great views of the ET, especially of its lights at night. Next time we go we must eat at the Breton cafes and restaurants there: yum!

Cool... Music wise, I'd recommend Barzaz, Kornog for examples of the 70s-80s revival, Yann-Fañch Kemener as a total legend of the voice of Central Brittany, Soïg Sibéril who is an incredible guitar maestro and Fleuves who are a contemporary band fusing all kinds of things (eg jazz and electronic music) with traditional dance tunes and ballads or 'gwerz'. It's a unique and very healthy musical hotspot for sure

I’ve been to Brittany many times. I love the region. Here in England, we have a more or less equal region, Cornwall. The breizh are the descendants of refugees from Cornwall who left during the Anglo Saxon invasions. However, a region more proud of its culture and flag in England would have to be Yorkshire 😂😂.

Cider is of course popular in England too. Speaking of comestibles, in the 11th century, William of Poitiers (the Norman writer) was dismissive of Brittany's rural economy because it was dominated by small, family-owned dairy farms instead of large estates with serfs. How paradoxical that Normandy is now proud of its cheeses!

Brittany isn't in France, it's in Gaul. Let's be clear, Gauls are not Franks. My brother-in-law who lives near Wurzburg is a Frank: he even has a Charlemagne moustache. He speaks a Frankish dialect we call "German" and definitely not Gallo-Roman, which is what Gauls now speak. The former President was Charles de Gaulle, not Karl von Franken.
