Alex Lifeson is the guitarist and he is brilliant! He has a chord named after him. He is self taught and also plays the mandola and later on keyboards as well. He is also a painter, a pilot and known as the real jokster of the band.
He and Geddy met in junior high when they were 13 and became best friends and they are still best friends today. Alex started the band when he was 16 in 1968.
This is one of my favourite Rush songs. Cheers
Alex lifeson on guitar... brilliant underrated player. And funny as hell! :) see a speech he did called "blah blah blah".
Alex Lifeson’s arguably greatest solo is probably in La Villa Strangiato. An instrumental ride. Make sure you get the 79’ one take studio video.
That would be 1978! 👍
This album was released in September of 1977.
Alex Lifeson is the guitarist. So underrated. If you liked this super classical guitar intro song, try The Trees which has another nice classical guitar intro and IMO one of Alex's most creative and catchy solos. The lyrics are inventive too, relevant today
So good!
He is the greatest guitarist!
Rush definitely is unique! My favorite for sure.
If you want to see Alex Lifeson, the guitarist in his prime, listen to "La Villa Strangiato", one of the best (if not the best) song by Rush.
Alex Lifeson is the guitarist. He and Geddy met in fifth grade in the same Elementary School in Canada and have been best friends ever since... quite amazing
"This one's a lot slower... it's acoustic..." LMFAO!!!!!
I sent a link to Patreon of Alex with his parents deciding his future.
Geddy refers to this era as "The era of the absurdly prophetic robes." He's not sure why they ever thought it was a good idea. Rush was never afraid to experiment and try new things, new styles, etc. They always played for themselves and never compromised. It helps that all 3 are absolute geniuses at their instruments. And they all play multiple.
Rush is 3 legends!
I wish more people find Rush!
your wish will always come true, their legacy will be everlasting
Great song!! As always. Oh Hell yes
More Rush videos!
Great job gents…THE PASS or THE GARDEN or STIXK IT OUT are solid
Wow! you're going deep on the Rush play list. I'm suggesting the Trees. The song starts with an acoustic. Rush the transition Kings. Natural Science is my favorite live song. It's fire lyrically and musically. Grand Design is my very favorite song. It's on my favorite Rush album Power Windows 1985.
So uniquely awesome!!
ged's voice at its strangulated, histrionic best, and beautiful poetry from the prof - 'scheming demons dressed in kingly guise.' oh aye.
Please try Natural Science studio version... It's a must of Rush songs to hear plus many many others . This song will show why all the top prog bands use Rush as an example
A reporter once asked Eddie Van Halen “What’s it like being the greatest guitar player ever?” Eddie replied “I don’t know, ask Alex Lifeson.”
Alex is perhaps the most underrated guitarist out there….simply brilliant.
If you’re truly interested in seeing How great Rush is, you must watch Xanadu live from 1982. You will see how amazingly talented these guys are
The story goes that a music journalist asked Eddie Van Halen how it felt to be the worlds greatest guitarist. He replied "I don;t know, you'd better ask Alex Lifeson".
Cygnus-X1, mind blowing!
Boy, this brings back memories. For me it was April of 1979 when I bought this album sight-unseen and gave it that first listen in my living room. I still have the day marked off in my journal. When the album was over, I told myself, "This'll do." I've been a fan ever since, and saw them in 1985.
Before Broon's Bane Alex used to play a classical piece before The Trees, anyone know what is is/was?
Awesome 😎
Listen to Exit Stage Left: Xanadu
RUSH Army is present and prepared for duty.
La villa strangiato..and ohh another thousand RUSH SONGS, that will catapult you both Into another dimension and change you
This one's a lot slower lol give it a minute. 😂 Do La Villa Strangiato next it's like three solos going on at the same time for 10 minutes.
Geddy came from his real name of Gary...His mother from Poland couldn't say Gary.. Also, his family is a holocaust survivor story....Such a great story... Read his book...just released in late 2023
Gran trío
Gran álbum 🇦🇷
Probably said prior but this was the album after 2112 where Rush were able to craft and create anything their hearts desired, with no push-back from the record label, money hungry execs just left them alone to do whatever they wanted in the studio, almost unheard of then and even more so now; nothing against academics and athletics but art and music should be championed in schools equally; "Beating down the multitudes and, scoffing at the wise" ...as true as ever
It's Geddy with a hard G, as in Greatness.
Alex Lifeson would and could be considered just as great as any of the greatest guitarists out there. You haven't heard of him though because he just happened to be in the only band that also featured two of the other greatest musicians to bring "background" music to the forefront. Not many bands feature a bassist taking the lead role, and even fewer had a drummer as prominent and proficient as Neil. So the guitar gets overlooked as "that other" instrument.
How do you guys take reaction requests?
I loved seeing this one, as it’s not reacted to as frequently, but based on your previous reactions, I would guess that you would enjoy Rushmore from their mid to late careers as opposed to the early stuff… In my personal opinion, Alex is the best because of his versatility… He can really do it all from acoustic to 12 string to blues to shredding to riff heavy to Eclectic punk he is really a chameleon with all kinds of different styles. He’s kind of done it all across all their albums, and was always a master of utilizing all different kinds of effects and guitars and amps to get the sound he wanted for a particular song, especially live where he does not take as much of a backseat as he sometimes does in the recording studio
How about doing yyz
Alex is like Rodney Dangerfield "No Respect"....so underrated, guitarist know how great he his but no one else does. There's a funny clip with some waitress asking for Geddys autograph and bumping and crowding Alex. Geddy asked her do want his autograph, it's his band; she said no and Alex was just smiling and laughing his ass off. So humble and yet so great.
Alex Lifeson is not the most technically gifted or the fastest. But he a monster at riffing and a genius in his approach to playing and serve the song. He is imo the soul of Rushs sound. He adds moods to Geddys and Neil hyperactive rhythm section.
This song is so relative in today’s politics!
Alex Lifeson is the guitarist and in my opinion is one of the top 5 of all times! I’ll duck before I send this, better than Eddie!
