    Awesome review - received my G15 Ryzen a few days ago with 165Hz screen and 115 W GPU - so far so good! Played some No Man's Sky last night on all Ultra + DLSS, got 90 to 110+ FPS. I was impressed by the pitch of the fan, even a full blast it wasn't not whiny or unpleasant. I did try NVIDIA's Whisper Mode, but I think that borked the settings for NMS, in the end I fixed it by restoring the Windows factory image! Thanks for the insights!

    Great video, we were under the impression that you don't need a bracket for the second M2 port. I don't understand Dell, they make a decent laptop with good upgrade options but if you want to upgrade it - you'll need to purchase extra parts for Amazon - or to contact them to teach you what to do...

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад +3

      Yeah, it probably comes from their deeply rooted business sales side. They want to sell those support plans or think big businesses already have their own hardware support people with parts. Out of touch with their general consumers for sure.

    • @acumenium8157
      @acumenium8157 2 года назад +1

      It's because the average person buying a 850$ laptop does not need a *second* SSD, they need actual storage (yes yes I know high capacity SSDs exist, they cost too much for anyone buying a 850$ laptop). But there's no SATA ports, so you'd need an external hard drive or something.

    Hi Loaded0! Thanks for the detailed review. Really liked your style :D
    I have a somewhat unusual question though. I'll be starting my Master's in Data Science soon in the US, and I need to purchase a new laptop before September 2021. Are "gaming" laptops such as Dell's G15 and Lenovo's Legion 5 acceptable in a more professional work environment? I'll be carrying the laptop to all my classes and I'll definitely do a lot of coding on it as well. But I also want the option to play some fun AAA titles when I take a break from work/studies. Just a bit unsure about whether the design aesthetic will come across as too childish/unprofessional haha. I obviously intend to disable all RGB and only consider laptops with a more muted design aesthetic. Your thoughts?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  3 года назад +2

      Yeah I think a lot of gaming laptops will be fine professionally. This G15 does have an interesting color scheme though that you might not want and the legion 5 has a pretty big logo but both can be covered up with skins if you want.
      I think the biggest issue would be portability and battery life. Most of these machine are big and heavy and will probably look odd compared to all the MacBooks and sleek business laptops. Battery life could be bad unless you know what setting you need to change. Out of the box most gaming laptops are set for performance and not battery saving.
      You might want to look into the Asus Zephyrus or Razer laptops which are specifically made for portability and longer battery life. They’ll be a bit more expensive and have less TDP for the GPU but are still very good for any games.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  3 года назад +1

      I was thinking about getting one for it, but after reading up on recent m.2 drives it seems it's not necessary. That's especially true if it's the secondary drive. Just like thoughts on CPU temps, SSD temp worries are just a relic of the past. If you plan on doing large file transfers for extended periods of time a heatsink may help, but the beauty of these super fast SSDs are that file transfers are fast so heat doesn't accumulate for long.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  3 года назад +1

      Also a funny tidbit and tip is not to remove the labels on the m.2 drive. According to the product page for the one I got here:
      www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/980/
      That flimsy looking label is actually a heat spreader.

    You can also control temps pretty well with vsync or an fps limiter. This way is doesn't work hard unless the gpu struggles to deliver 60fps. Both gpu and cpu will be much cooler if you target only 60fps. Going from solid 60 to fluctuating 80-140 fps won't really make you a better gamer unless you're extremely skilled and able to take advantage of the miniscule latency difference otherwise just turn on "low latency mode" in the Nvidia control panel and forget about it. Enjoy the idea that your pc is not pegged to 100% throttle constantly and instead only flexes when it needs to 💪Use the extra rendering power for better graphics instead of more fps.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад +1

      I agree with that. Most games I play are fine at 60. I do try to get higher frames for multiplayer games though mostly because they often can have sudden frame dips. The higher fps along with freesync will be like a buffer to keep the gameplay smooth.

      Sure this should be an easy decision for you depending on what your needs are going to be. The Slim 5i isn’t really a gaming laptop, but should be good for work and school type applications. It’s made for portability.
      The Dell G15 is a gaming laptop which means it’s powerful and can handle everything the Slim 5i can and more, but with the trade off of not being as portable (weight and size) and very power hungry. If your application uses the gpu the G15 will also have less battery life. It looks “gamer-y” and the fans can get loud so not really great in a professional setting.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  3 года назад +6

      There’s a pretty big gap in performance from a 3050 to a 3060. Realistically you should be able to play all game out there but just lower settings. Think medium or even low for some newer games to get at least 60 FPS on a 3050. If that’s ok with you or if you have a hard cap on what you want to spend then there’s no problem getting the 3050 model.
      One thing to note though. Last gen laptops should start getting cheaper and older 2070 laptops might do better than the 3050 in a lot of cases.

    • @unknown123455

      @@Loaded0 Thanks for the advice. I went with the 3050 because Dell Canada had 31% off with sale and coupon on some select models (Ships in a month so I can still change my mind or find an older 2070 like you suggested). Additionally, not every model that was on sale in the States was on in Canada (U.S. had a 3060 for $850ish). Specifically, 3050 was $858 Canadian and 3050Ti models were around $1,079 - 1,169 Canadian. The only 3060 model on sale was $1349 Canadian (31% off with Sale and Coupon). Great deals on high-end graphics card laptops, but outside of my price range. Considering my last laptop was an i3-4030U dual-core, this AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600H 6-core with RTX 3050 will be a significant jump for me. My video editing and low-end gaming requirements are met. •Well-designed keyboard with easy to type keys and plenty of space for my wrists
      •Dedicated High Performance Button with adjustable settings.

      •Laptop weighs 2.81 kg (6.19 lb). A little bulky but easy enough to move around. I got a carrying case from Dell, so I recommend one.
      •In terms of gaming I stuck to Ryzen 5 because very few games require Ryzen 7. I tried Vanquish and Thronebreaker and Chrono Trigger. All 3 were at 60fps or higher. Haven't tried high end games like Elden Ring, but it should run stable.
      •Check Specifics on Dell Technologies Website.
      Cons
      •Storage: The Dell G15 5515 supports two M.2 2230/2280 solid-state drive. The M.2 drive is the primary drive of your Dell G15 5515. I only got a 256GB and most of the current ones available are sold out or not M.2s due to supply shortages. Plus the PS5 and Xbox Series use the same SSD models. I recommend a 1TB or higher model with your initial purchase. As shown in the review if you need to modify it later, it's easier.
      •No SD card reader. You'll need a USB adapter.
      •Too many programs to manage settings. One by Dell. One by Alienware. One by NVidia Be prepared to look up menus and jump through hoops for some settings.
      •This might be specific to me, but when my laptop turns on it connects to the Wi-Fi instantly, then disconnects and reconnects in less than a minute. It's probably just the User login interrupting it or the wireless card and my router don't mesh, but it still runs beautifully.
      •All Dell laptops come with Dell Support Services for a year and a Mcafee Virus protection for a year. Use them. After the first year, they are separate services that need to be renewed seperately. Also the Mcafee VPN disconnected regularly. Still works but its occasionally intermittent. Also while connected to VPN, I couldn't type RUclips comments because your account is locked to the country you're in. As long as you're aware of that, you can get use out of it.
      Hope that all helps. Once again, check specifics for the G15 model through Dell Technologies Website.

    • @Loaded0

      It can affect performance if it throttles the speed due to heat. This usually only occurs while writing or reading large amounts of data at once for a long period of time which isn’t common usage. Usually a heat shield will just allow it to go at full speed for longer in this case.
      Normal use; playing games, work stuff, or browsing, etc you won’t have performance problems without a heat shield.

    Hi there, just wanted to ask a question this since some time has passed since the vid. How have the temps of your SSD been without the heatsink? I am currently looking into getting the mounting parts for the second M.2 so wanted to know.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      While I don’t really monitor the temps all the time I haven’t noticed any performance issues. It’ll depend on the SSD (this Samsung doesn’t get too hot according to reviews), but worst case is that it’ll throttle itself and speeds will drop dramatically until it cools down. Writing to drives causes the most heat. I use it as my game drive which is mostly reading so no issues there.

      Do you mean you want the CPU to work harder than 37%? Battlefront 2 probably doesn't work the CPU much so 37% might be all it needs. If you're worried about the temp that's kind of how this laptop runs sometimes and if you're not getting dropped frames or stuttering it's probably at max performance. I do have a couple of suggestions though. Try it without G mode as it tends to allocate a lot of power to the CPU even if you're not using it much which means higher temps. Also I've heard Ryzen Controller is a good utility to disable the CPU boost function and that'll lower temperatures.

The only difference between these two, beside the display, is that the base frequence of the ryzen is 3,2 GHz (4,4 GHz in core boost), where as the intel has 2,2 GHz (5 GHz in core boost). Is the higher base frequence worth sacrificing the better display? Am i even going to notice it?

      That’s a tough choice. The CPUs actually don’t matter that much between the two except you’ll probably get a bit less battery life with Intel.
      The decision will be between the screen (I heard the 120hz is not good), and the 5510 Intel has a lower TGP for the 3060. Basically the Intel will have better screen, but about 10% less performance for GPU heavy games. It’s really what you think is more important for you. I haven’t seen the 120hz screen, but the 165hz is very good.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      It’s operating normally. Laptops with an integrated gpu and dedicated gpu will normally use the integrated gpu for extended battery life. The 3050 will still be used when it’s needed at a slight performance cost since it has to also talk to the Radeon graphics. The HDMI on the this laptop is connected directly to the 3050 though so it’ll be able to run at its best performance using an external monitor.
      The 3060 model of this laptop (the one I have) does a mux switch feature which completely disables the integrated graphics so it’ll run on dedicated graphics on the laptop screen with no performance hit.

      As for the RAM, the laptop doesn’t support XMP so you’ll need to get ram that runs at 3200mhz without it. Look for ram that has a JEDEC profile set to 3200mhz. I’ve noticed that RAM that relies on XMP tends to be 1.35v so start by looking for 1.2v then check user reviews to make sure their laptops were able to run at 3200mhz.

      There’s an Alienware Command Center app installed by default. The G button will let the laptop run on full power with maxed out fans.
