Great run Plexa! Watched the whole thing live and it was worth every second. :)
I remember when I was 9 years old, I had been begging my dad and my grandparents for a GBA for Christmas as it had just come out... Low and behold I get the most beautiful version of the OG GBA and one game, Golden Sun. I instantly fell in love with the game, the characters and my dad who was an avid gamer was surprised at how great the graphics were despite telling me all year long how handhelds aren't nearly as good as consoles and cut corners everywhere to make a barely playable version of said console game. He tried Golden Sun and was so addicted he got farther than I and kept telling him I wanted my GBA back to play GS lol. Eventually I finished the original game and when I found out there was a 2nd game, I was begging my dad to get it and he did! I had no idea how The Lost Age could be better but it was in every single way.
This was an amazing Speedrun and super nostalgic for me. Thanks for making me relive those childhood memories!
I also could not believe Part two delivered the way it did. This was before internet-community already had a preformed feeling about a game and you copied it. This game was the perfect continuation and I didn´t thought I would like a total different party at all, but I did. Joining both parties with the code was mindblowing and awesome. More games today should do stuff like that, even on PC. Great your dad liked it.
so happy to see golden sun getting some love! Camelot, where's our 4th game?
11 years and counting...
Tbh I wish the 4th game could just be a Remaster 1+2, I always pretend like 3 never existed lmao
1 and 2 remake is what we need.
Too busy making half-assed Mario sports games…
remaster on switch of the trilogy plzzzzzzzzzz
Man this games soundtrack is just fantastic. I am so glad that this game is part of the sgdq lineup.
oh SHEET! I did not expect GS to make an appearance again this year! Nice going Plexa!
Love to see Golden Sun get some GDQ love, one of my favourite game series. Now wish Nintendo would give it the love it deserves
And i was thinking about this game yesterday while looking at the RE speedruns, glad to see it.
The Golden Sun will rise again! Awesome run guys.
I love the passion this squad has for the GS games
one of my favourite game in gba... feels nostalgic already :D . Amazing run by Plexa.... keep it up!!!
Woo! Golden Sun! My first and favorite rpg! I can't help but compare every rpg I've played to this one game! Well, two. In any case, most fall flat because Golden Sun has one feature all of the other games lack; shops will offer to buy your old equipment when you get new stuff there.
Honestly one of the best rpg shop mechanics I've ever encountered.
Wow, even rewatching this a while later and loving it, the Dullahan fight is still absolutely incredible. Really well done Plexa, and you could see the sense of accomplishment he had in pulling it off with that fist pump he did
Oh man, GS hype. I NEEEEED a switch remake, or a fourth game so bad. I hold out every year on golden Sunday for the announcement of something new in the series. m. and with the 20th anniversary coming up, I'm really hopeful.
This is my favourite rpg of all time
Not only did Sakuraba work on Golden Sun, Star Ocean, and Dark Souls, he's also done work for Mario Tennis, Golf, and Smash Bros. He's been slamming out tracks and SFX since the late 80's, what a fucking legend.
For those not running the game and just want to beat dulahaan casually you can summon rush him with Daedalus and Azul. Set up a main party with all the djinn needed to summon 4 Daedalus then keep attacking until the party is wiped and are switched to the backup party who can then spam Azul until Daedalus's delayed attack can hit.
You can also get the Iris summon before fighting Dulahaan
Best game ever! Enjoyed every minute of the run!
This was my favorite gameboy game growing up! So happy to see this at GDQ!
So glad to see this game represented at GDQ!
Really enjoyed both of your runs Plexa, and thumbs up to couch + donation reader! Highly informative and entertaining. This has encouraged me to pick up Golden Sun again
Looking forward to possibly Dark Dawn next event?
One of my favorite games, always remember the summons as being some of the most beautiful things I ever saw on the GBA. Reeeally tempted to look into an emulator to replay and 100% the game(s) a second time.
The game really holds up, you should replay it :)
Great run, i have done a 100% casual run, before i knew the proper item set up i would lose to the final phase of the Doom Dragon, so i went to the nets and i got better at proper armor weapon setting, also rng item drops, look forward to Dark Dawn if GDQ grantz us that run, also hope Camelot and Nintendo revive this series and give a awesome remake.
I love Golden Sun so very much that it's in my top 3 games of all time or series I need more of! I really hope we get some sort of new Golden Sun game, I would just be stoked! Like a new one on the switch pro or something, please!
it was long, i had to watch it in a few sittings
but super glad to see the whole run, honestly i was surprised at how many different tricks and things went through, nice to see combat worth doing sometimes too.
Great run! hope to see another gs game sometime at the next gdq :)
I love this game so much love to see it in GDQ
Love seeing golden sun in gdq again!
28:31 Now I just wonder how many other sprite layering whoopses I've overlooked in games over the years.
Now I wanna replay GS, write down the password as cleanly as I can, copy it over with exactly 3 mistakes and then finally True 100t% TLA, being completely infuriated about Dullahan. Again.
"with exactly 3 mistakes" It sounds both ultra specific, and...Oddly relatable, in my case
Been playing this game since it’s launch and have never seen the mad Kraden scene.
One of the few times the Yes/No decisions has a real outcome.
Just say no to kraden all the time
That Dullahan fight was absolutely amazing!
4:44:58 to see it again!!
Such a great run!!
childhood game, i remember being stuck for months on the dessert ended up in the town with the psych kid, but i had to go south west and damn never finished it
Amazing run!
If any rpg game series deserves a solid remake on switch, it's Golden Sun. I honestly didn't like Dark Dawn much so I'd prefer remakes over GS4. I think it would be interesting though if GS4 (after the events of Dark Dawn) Gave birth to a sort of decline/flourish scenario. Where alchemy would be sealed and then released every 20 years or so to stave off the negative effects of alchemy from both sides. Issac and Felix reuniting to create the rituals. Sort of a Tales of Symphonia thing without the sacrifices and empty vessel thing.
Praise the Golden Sun ☀️
The lost age was especially my favorite!
Dullahan fight explanation starts at about 4:36:22
yeay golden sun, my fav gba game
Same 👌🏻
the 1st play through with this game i thought Excalibur is the best weapon, but i guess Sol Blade is much better because it deals more damge consistently witj Megido than Excalibur's Legend howl, both great weapons tho
54:40 - Sol Blade acquired
Wow, the rock dungeons in this game were surely expansive.
2:29:30 - I'm so glad I get to play as Waluigi in an RPG in the Year of our Waaaaah 2021.
Dullahan fights start at ~4:41:30
1:05:00 M E G I D D O
I've beaten this game and I can't figure out what the hell he is doing in the menus.
4:41:26 for the Dullahan fight
Plexa is just a GOD
2:32:09 There's a coffer sprite appearing for a frame to the right O_O
Serious question: how does he avoid having to go to the bathroom during the run (or in practice runs/grind runs/etc).
?
Practice. I also didn't eat beforehand. We also know where the bathroom break moments are in the run and use those to their full advantage.
Fuck yeaaaah! Let's gooo!!!🌹🗝️🎃🗝️🌹
I counted 26 Megidonts.
I'll rewatch to see if it's right.
I recounted 25 which sounds about right.
Does it only count as a megidont at a boss fight? Because I counted wayyyyy more than 25. This is my first time watching a speedrun of this game too so I’m not really in the loop
Sheba is my favorite ever
The dad shout out :'( !
So the trident isn't completely pointless, huh? :-3
My uncle deleted my save game for this on purpose. I'll get him back someday...
gamesound is way to loud
Hello 👋
First
I love this game so much one of the first rpg I played
the golden sun series is absurdly overrated but this was such a cozy run I was able to overlook it
You probably didn’t play it when it first came out lmao
Air's Rock sucks!!
