Step by step, how to change the rear differential fluid in your Lexus GX470. This same procedure works for the Toyota FJ Cruiser, 4Runner and most other modern Toyota and Lexus trucks including the Land Cruiser Prado.
Changing the differential oil helps keep the gears in your Lexus or Toyota truck turning smoothly and is an easy maintenance job that just about anyone can do with a few simple tools.

Beautifully presented, without a buncha hoohaa
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for the great video.
Very nicely done. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Thank you.
happy it helped!
I noticed in your write-up you called for 80w-90 oil, but in the video it shows 75W-85. Which one is correct? I am working on a 2004 GX470
Please check your owners manual as recommended for the correct oil weight for your vehicle. often 75w-85 or 75w-90 is used as a universal weight for gear oil and is often what a shop will default too.
SAE85 or 80W90
Thanks
Welcome
Where’s blue Betty been?? It’s been a loooong time since you’ve put out anything besides a how to video. Hope you’re still getting out there
:-) I wish we were getting out more, but work and life have us on a short leash. The how to videos let me at least do something and keeps the trucks ready for when I can get away. Hopefully this summer will open up and I can sneak in a trip or two... I really want to get back to SE Oregon and explore the Steens Mountain area. It is amazing out there.
How many miles did you do the service
Always follow the maintenance schedule. Should find one online. We bought the truck used and changed all the fluids to give us a baseline.
What book are you using?
For our 2008 G470 we're using the book labeled Owner's Manual. The info is in the tab section marked Vehicle Specifications. Hope that helps.
