  • i am only posting this because boyd rice claims that his racist past is both nonexistant and some form of madeup story, he claims he only appeared with bob hieck in an american front uniform as a joke, an if he admitted to being a racialist instead of flat out denial, i would have never posted this. here i will let boyd's own words show you what he belives or once believed and the clip is from the white aryan resistances tv show Race and reason.

the origin for this interview, according to Boyd, was in a proposed book about extreme political figures in America - he wrote to plenty of figures (like Farrakhan) hoping to interview them but only Metzger responded.

    • @thepanel2935

I think Louis Farrakhan is a salesman and a phony. He tells his community and followers what they want to hear, while he wears silk suits and rides around in a chaffeur-driven Rolls-Royce. Mainstream Islam has rejected that Lewis Farrakhan's _Nation of Islam_ organisation is a legitimate branch of the Muslim faith. That's a fact. Check it out.

Shame Farrakhan denied him, it would have been a based interview.

Am I missing something here? Putting aside anything else Boyd has said or done, I don't hear ANYTHING racist in what he says. The hosts keep trying to push him in that direction, but he doesn't say anything that would paint him as a racist. And given the tendency of "industrial" "music" to push buttons and cause controversy, this is actually pretty tame.

@5:39 -- Kraftwerk and Gary Numan were hugely popular among black communities in the 80s. Also, the entire electro scene was full of minority artists: Afrikaa Bambaataa, Cybotron, Newcleus, Man Parrish, Derrick May, Egyptian Lover, etc. Also, Chicago House in the early 80s.

Boyd Rice along with being the first 'industrial' musician, is also the first white rapper, doing spoken word over repetitious music and sound.

He’s a memetic posthuman evangelist ..He’s a lot like a Burroughsian Joel Coleman of a much higher caliber. Irony is his Schtick. Ballard meets Bill Hicks with the CCRU boiling beneath. If you take him as a provacateur, he's a genius. Our culture really does put up with a lot of mediocrity in the name of tolerance, and we really don't value exceptional people enough. Offensive ideas don't necessarily hurt anybody. But fascism is fucking stupid. Racism is more stupid. And caring about people is certainly in our own best interest. Boyd flirts extremes because he says it's "stimulating." I agree. He makes me think a lot more than people who I agree with do.

Incorrect. The precedents for "(taking) the stage with electronic equipment and turntables" comes from a long line of experimental artists and composers, many of them academics. The first guy to use turntables to create new music (as far as I know) was John Cage, way back in 1939. Rice is far more in that tradition than anything to do with DJs.

I suppose since this stuff is so unpopular it might be understood as some kind of misanthropic statement or other, but still. Levay expressed some sympathy for fascist asthetics, but he just talked about the asthetics. Who knows. Also, the idea that industrial music is "white" makes since only if you ignore it's roots in funk music. Droning abrasiveness is just a post-punk interpretation of James Brown's vamping. No funk, no disco, no industrial.

I dunno. You at least have to admit that since Boyd likes to fuck around with old pop records in his act, and since American pop music couldn't exist without black folks, his music isn't really "purely white," which was my original complaint. You can't love American junk culture, which Boyd clearly does, while claiming only to be dealing with "white" cultures. He's a hell of a musician either way.

But also you can see Boyd has rubbed shoulders with people that have strange ideas about colors. Since they are unaware that they themselves create color with their eyes in one way, and animals see colors in other ways they are ignoring evidence that contradicts their theories, which are based in ignorance, but I can understand wanting culture to be more sophisticated but using racial theories will not get the results Boyd desires, but I think he learned this by now, maybe?

A lot of Dicso records were produced in Sweden. Donna Summer, despite being a black American woman, is really more of a European artist than an American one. Swedish disco records, which obviously borrow from black American funk records, were innovative because they used lots of trancey synths. That's really the breakthrough that opened the way for techno and industrial music. And lots of industrial artists use disco beats.

"Because of the spiritual enlightenment which I was blessed to receive as the result of my recent pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah, I no longer subscribe to sweeping indictments of any one race. I am now striving to live the life of a true Sunni Muslim. I must repeat that I am not a racist nor do I subscribe to the tenets of racism. I can state in all sincerity that I wish nothing but freedom, justice and equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people."-MX

@Time2Keeper1 It's not about whether its hard to believe or not. There's just no evidence based on this interview that he's on the show for anything but a laugh.

I admire the guy myself, but I'm not sure I'd want to push things as far as he has. His shows have attracted a lot of far right people because of stuff like this. Fascist aesthetics are really provacative, but actual fascists not so much. I say that, but I've tons of fascist literature myself, so maybe I'm just being uptight. I wonder if Tom Metzger would want to be associated with Satanism. Nobody ever mentions Rice's CoS involvment during the interview.

I thought I should acknowledge that I know Boyd Rice was a long time friend of Levay and a long time representative of the Church of Satan, but he's resisted being pigeonholed as a Satanist. I supposed he's resisted being pigeonholed as a fascist too, but I don't like his choice to help connect the dots between the two. I suppose if he didn't piss people off, it wouldn't have been worth doing.

What gives with Boyd, Douglas P, David Tibet, or any of those guys. DIJ came from a socialist/leftist punk band, and a Current 93 family tree inside one of their records has Skrewdriver crossed out, yet at the time they all seemed to be flirting with this highly intelligent-sounding (i.e., not dumb skinhead stuff) version of racist politics in their music. Is it about trying to be purposely oblique so no one can pin them down? Is it shock? what the hell?

Look, I'm willing to say that people can reform, and this definitely an ugly side to Rice's past, but I really don't see why people ridicule people when they lead a life that has evolved from perhaps a darker place such as this. There's no way one person can be perfect, and that doesn't make him justified, but there are definitely some things he says that I agree and disagree with.

i am just individualistic enough not to follow any established movements or ideas. also, you are talking with no real prove. "people who fall out of touch with their roots are the real losers". how can you prove that and what does a loser mean exactly? i don't think that my life means less (or more) than yours, just because you believe something that's only in your head (aka call it illusion). everything is a question of relativity.

Boyd Rice's music really has more to do with conceptual art like Dadaism than with funk, but some of the precedents for a guy to take the stage with electronic equipment and turntables come from Black and Jamacan artists.

    • @ndf3
      @ndf3 7 лет назад +1

Hmmm... Nope! It's not funny. I'm not saying it's dangerously racist and evil necessarily, but you have to redefine comedy to think this is funny. And I LOVE awkward and offensive public access tapes.
But I know, identity politics are so irresistibly EDGY!
Is the aspect ratio a subtle joke too? What about his career, is that the joke? Because whining about other's perceptions after appearing on a crack-pot public access shit-show is kinda funny. Don't get me wrong, he's no Andy Kaufman! It's more like having putrid odors coming from your basement and boarded up windows and asking, "what is all the curiosity about?"
I can't wrap my head around this comedy !
