  • I have lived and worked in ten different countries and I considered some of them as retirement destinations when I was deciding where to retire. I narrowed it down to five countries before eventually deciding that Thailand was the best place for me to live out my golden years. These are those five countries and some of the reasons why I decided to live here in Hua Hin.

If cost is not an issue, what would your ranking be like on where you would like to retire to? And, as a chef how easy it it for you to whip up a good western meal in Thailand considering the availability of ingredients for a good western meal?

Hi. Before I moved to Thailand Bermuda would have been my number one pick if I had an infinitive amount of money. But since moving to Thailand I think that this was the better choice for me as it's a big country with so much to do. Regarding whipping a great western meal imported goods from Western countries are very expensive here

As I was saying Western foods are highly taxed here and quite expensive but I tend to use cheaper ingredients and can still cook good Western meals.

I find, most things in Thailand are generally 1/3 the cost of Australia.

Hi Thanks for your input. Maybe on average 1/3. I was in Australia recently and was charged $8.50 for a 250ml bottle of water in a restaurant in Melbourne. I regularly buy 24 bottles of water here for 75 baht AU$3.00. In my local drinking haunt here in Hua Hin ( Ban Khun Por) a 750 ml bottle of Chang beer is 65 baht (AU$2.60) a schooner of beer at my local on the Gold Coast was AU$9.50 (230 baht).
      Cheers
      Ged
