- I'm upgrading my Springfield armory echelon. I Install a Powder River Precision trigger, Trijicon red dot, Magwell and basepads from Patriot cnc, and add a weapon light from Holosun. This gun turned out better that I thought it would. I can’t wait to get this to the range and test this gun out.

For this firearm, the way it comes is good enough.
I used an Apex black Aluminum safety lever trigger for the M&P 2.0 full size pistol on my 10mm version. The gunsmith I used for the install had to do some modifications to have it work. Apex later came out with the one for the full size 10mm though.
I hear a lot of youtubers say that they can't show how to do these things . But I watch Sootch00 field strip every weapon he reviews. I was watching to see how you replaced the springs.
Yea, RUclips is fine with " maintenance and cleaning" type videos, but aftermarket parts or "modifying" firearms is a big deal for some reason. I've gotten a channel strike for installing a red dot 🤷 so when I time lapse the video it's fine. It's a pain in the ass because I'd rather give you guys what you want and a detailed install, but RUclips hates gun tubbers
Perfect duty pull trigger out the box.
For a duty pistol, that pull weight is perfect, between 4.5-5.0 pounds for a stock trigger.
I put my PRP in yesterday, and it's badass! I compared the two trigger reset springs, and the stock is stiffer, so I used it. Reset is strong and crisp! This trigger is a must! It cleaned up my mushy ass factory!
Maybe I'll throw the factory reset spring back in and see how I like it 👍
Outstanding video my man! I just picked up my Echelon. Love it just the way it is out the box!
Nice, you'll love it👍
you can't "love" a firearm unless yo've taken a dremel to it.
@Gnolomweb 😂😂
@@GnolomwebI got the echelon and reved my dremel at it, dang thing shoots good now, it just requires idle threats.
Good video I purchased this gun about 4 months ago maybe closer to 5 but all I've done is put a streamlight hL1 and a red dot I haven't had any trouble at the range with the trigger reset and it's noisy lol but yeah like the magwell but the trigger is fine to me I have about 800 or so rounds thru it now maybe more I really don't keep exact count lol but I really like it.
Yea, I like this gun too ... It's one of the best right out of the box👍
Considering picking up an Echelon so Imma here - over analyzing every gun purchase to the point of inaction lol - got to know guys are out there fabricating triggers and magwells and other accessories for the E. wondering if you changes up the sights. because I am in a restricted state Springfield -like most manufacturers - only make the base model available with 10 round magazines. The factory night sites aren’t an option. also, that wall behind you in your shop is totally bad ass! Wouldn’t mind a set up like that for myself! cheers!
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Dive in, you won't regret it. You can get aftermarket sights for them, or even get the factory night sights from Springfield after you get it... Good luck with the decision making 😂😂
I had to file the inner lip of my oem magwell from Patriot to work with the oem base plates. Also noticed that tightening the retaining screw too much causes a gap between the mag well and grip. Needs some kind of anti-walk, so tightening doesn't cause separation. I only took the screw to 15in/lbs of torque or so. Hope later iterations will address this.
Magwell is cool but now you have the screw 15:43 head sticking out at the back. I prefer the gap than the button head screw sticking out
I agree the look of the screw head doesn't look the best, but I don't notice it while shooting (which would be a deal breaker). But the look of a gap is a deal breaker for me.... The Screw head is less noticable than a big gap 🤷
I called Floyd's the other day and they have a magwell and it is secured from the bottom, No screw sticking out the backstop. They don't have the baseplate I was looking for. In Illinois I have a capacity of 15 rounds, so I will need a +0 baseplate. They said they should have my baseplate in less than 2 months.
@@ballisticallychallenged Have you had any issues with the magwell not seating properly on the end of the grip? Mine wiggles....
@andrewcornella3821 I personally haven't... Mine fits good and snug
I'm definitely waiting to see Apex come out with new trigger
They are working on one 👍
@ballisticallychallenged awesome, but this didn't look to bad with the black trigger shoe and may consider picking one up. Love your reviews.
Thanks man, I appreciate it 👊
509t needs a screw set from Springfield, ya use the Rmr screws it comes with you will wreck your striker assembly and spring..
I just got mine and it took me a little bit of force, but I put my FN 509 Parker precision Magel on it. It fits pretty well. The only thing is that I can’t use the standard base pad for the mags but I like it. My next range day I’m gonna see if it’ll stay on and will work.
The baseplates tell you on the inside how many rounds they add. The plus 0 has a big 0 on the inside, the plus 3 has a big 3 on the inside.
Really enjoying your content on gun modz. Your projects are artistic, progressive and functional. Thank you.
Thanks for watching 👍
I like this. The take-up is the most annoying part of the stock trigger ............. and the "soft" reset (tactile).
Nice job on the video and install, I just subscribed. I appreciate your straightforward no extraverted nonsense style. I'm currently looking for a 9mm to run steel and uspsa and this is in contention for me. Thanks.
No problem, thanks for watching 👍
Reset still looks long. Perhaps, I’m just stuck on the ultra short reset of the Caniks. Mete Pro is super, SUPER short. As soon as you think about resetting, it’s already there.
That being said, beauty build, dude. Looks awesome.
Thanks man👍 power river has a good video showing the difference in the travel of the trigger
I have PRP triggers on all of my Springfields and they always made a big difference. The new trigger for the Echelon seems to have a longer rest than the oem one. I’ll have to wait for another vendor for sure.
Would you be interested in doing a complete breakdown of this Pistol? I would like to see how the COG breaks down. Thanks for sharing.
Not a bad idea...., thanks for watching😏
I'm a Glock armorer, not that it means much but I always like to see complete breakdowns of other weapon systems to compare too. I love Glock but I get so much shit for it these days, and I try to make my points on simplicity to the asshats that probably don't even shoot enough to have an opinion on any pistol for that matter. @@ballisticallychallenged
Greyman solutions makes awesome holsters that take the Holosun PID
That magwell looks a lot better than Floyds due the unfinished look at the backstrap part. I must be weird but I dont mind a lil take up as long as theres no creep but I like a nice solid wall with a nice 3.5lb trigger.
That screw is butt ugly though. Looks like when people use stick on hood scoops on their car. No one has made a perfect magwell for it yet.
I agree with all of that 👍 would be nice if there was a different way to secure it other than the screw.
@@blakedennis4841 as long as you don't feel that screw in your palm when shooting the gun, who cares. At the end of the day, it's just a tool.
I picked up the same Holosun light, delta point pro, Fdez werx barrel, power River precision spring kit, apex extended mag release, apex guide rod and ndz guide rod springs. Didn’t go with the powder River trigger because of the lack of color options.
Nice job! Love my Echelon. I was waiting for a trigger. Love to hear how it shoots for you now.
I'll make sure and keep you updated 👍
I would definitely wait for apex. I only trust apex and overwatch when it comes to triggers. Eliminating the trigger take-up doesn't automatically make a trigger better. If anything all it does is make it less safe. Removing the creep after the wall before the break is what makes a trigger good. Having a short reset that you can actually feel is important. I would never change the striker spring. Apex will probably designed a better trigger without changing the striker spring.
I hope. I checked yesterday and still no trigger yet.
@@unitedwestanddividedwefall3521 Maybe they're waiting for the 4in compact version.
Apex is currently working on a trigger for it. I asked them in December. But with everything apex, they don't rush a product to market. They take their time and make sure it's right and safe. 👍
@@ballisticallychallenged Sig P320 aftermarket triggers aren't very impressive and I wonder if it has something to do with it's modular design 🤔. That's why I question if the echelon aftermarket triggers will be any good or not. I doubt that it'll match triggers like the m&p apex trigger kit or the aftermarket triggers for the pdp. I guess we'll find out. CZ is about to release what appears to be a modular p10c. I'll possibly choose the upcoming p10c over the compact echelon depending on the factory trigger. I think springfield did a great job with the echelon slide but the trigger could have been better. That's my opinion..
Even the OEM trigger doesn’t have much of an audible trigger reset I’ve noticed with my echelon
Great video for me the best upgrade was the springer precision guide rod (20 bucks) and spring shoots amazing after that especially with 124 or 135 grain rnds. The factory trigger after 1k rounds gets super fast and smooth I shoot USPSA and the gun is fast 💨 Cold Bill drill trigger got sweet on me 8 rounds in 1.58 😮 Get some! I did get the grip stippled I’m a little aggressive with draw and grip!!
Nice, I'll have to check out that guide rod. Thanks for watching 👍
Just got mine, honestly the trigger is one of the best out of box middle/budget guns I've ever shot.
You shoot completion?
I agree, the trigger is excellent from the factory. No I don't shoot competition.
@@ballisticallychallenged 👍
I bought this same trigger for my echelon and it absolutely does NOT reduce the reset, it lengthens it, and you can even observe this in the installation video the company put out. The trigger pull itself is superior, but mine had an issue where the trigger shoe had some defect i couldnt pin point where the gun wouldnt reliably reset after firing, but would function check just fine while dry.
I'll have to test it out once I get to the range.
My Echelon came with a trigger comparable to the Canik Rival. Crips break, short reset, tactile click. This appears to be a downgrade in every way.
Really well done video, been super interested in the Powder River trigger. Well deserving of a sub!
👊 thanks man
@@ballisticallychallenged Thank you! I'm actually putting the kit in my cart right now ahaha
@bradmiller9892 no problem
Nice work you keep on!
👊
you make me want to go and get this pistol i like the way the name sounds and how you was shooting it. i want a total of 6 pistols two to carry conceal and 2 for the range and 2 for the house that's decent right i don't need no more than 6 weapons. i believe 6 pistols is more than enough but i want to get these pistols and start shooting but i want 3 white sights on all of them there are the best i just need to get my hands on a pistol lol. the place you was talking about trader jerry i hope i said it right i can go there and order guns and ammo? so what's the best ammo to shoot at the range? i want to get good at shooting and i only want the best ammo going thru my gun
Does adding the mag well work with the larger back strap changed? Great video thanks.
I'm not sure, it might have that info on Patriot cnc's website or you could email them and see.
good details, thank you very much
No problem 👍
I’d wait for apex trigger. Hopefully better reset tactile. Aren’t there any spaces around the optic? Any chance of getting loosen?
Wish we can have it in California 😢
That sucks
I’m in the market for my next full-size 9mm and I was wondering what you would recommend between this the PDP Pro, the FN 509 or the M&P 2.0?
The echelon or the pdp, I like both of them more than the FN or S&W
@@ballisticallychallengedThanks for the reply. I’m really leaning toward the Walther.
@GA08GT478 I love mine. I don't have the pro version though
PDP Pro trigger beats the other two you listed.
Without showing/explaining to us the details of the trigger install you could have saved me and others about 5 minutes by deleting that section of the video, just a suggestion for future videos. Other than that a good review. Have you looked into rail mounted compositors?
I can't please everyone, if I take that part out, someone else will bitch. No I haven't looked into compensators.
Nice upgrades. So you have to add the base pads to use the magwell?!
I think they make a magwell that works with the factory basepads
If the Echelon is so great "out of the box", why does it need a bunch of mods or upgrades? In my opinion, the stock trigger is amazing for duty work.
It doesn't "need" the upgrades, they just make it that much better. I don't work in a field where I carry a gun on duty, so I'm fine with upgrading the trigger
Just found your channel and great video! Do you recommend edc with this?
@@HurtStrongTactical563 thanks man.... I wouldn't hesitate to EDC with the echelon
They desperately need to start getting in peoples ears to build an aftermarket for this gun. This thing could kill the P320. (Not from a military standpoint)
Can you please do a review on the Beretta apx-a1 compact
If I had one, I would 😂
Don’t like the screw head on the grip.
I just bought one today. Any recommendations for an otw holster?
Check 4bros, they are my go to. I have a discount code on my website if they have one 👍
Any recommendations for a holster that works with the Echelon and the Holosun light?
I just got one from 4bros 👍
Nice upgrade Man,Quick Question what company holster compatibility with this setup work for You?
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm trying to talk 4bros into making holsters with this setup. Drop them a comment or message on Instagram. I think he wants to see some people asking for them before he dives in. I talked to him about it yesterday and he's thinking about it, but if the screams get louder he may push forward. 👍👍👍
@@ballisticallychallenged perfect brother because I have the same flashlight and it’s so hard to find holster for many model of pistol with this flashlight.
I know it. I have struggled as well.
Does anyone out there make a "CROWNED MATCH GRADE BARREL" for this pistol????
No clue🤷
👍🏻
Cnc patriot for the slide cuts and porting do I need to send my slide in for all that ?
Yea
I don't know that I like that Magwell screw just sticking out there.
Not ideal, but I can't feel it digging into my hand like I thought I would. Aesthetically it's not nice, but it doesn't bother me shooting
@@ballisticallychallenged floydcustoms is more hidden in the Magwell itself same price.
The Screw is more hidden, but I'll take this magwell all day over the Floyd's. The gap in the back of the Floyd's is a lot more annoying than the screw
I got a Echelon and installed a Gideon enclosed red dot with a plate on mine and it failed the first few shots.
I was looking at video firing and it looks like a casing strike that hit the front glass and cracked it.
I know the casings should eject high and right but a few seemed to flip straight back and get knocked forward.
I got it warranty covered but not sure if the enclosed optic is good choice like the smaller slanted back dots.
Just wondering what is your thoughts or if you know of a similar experience?
Thanks, Casey
I haven't tried an enclosed optic in mine, but I would think any quality optic would be able to handle a case hitting it
@@ballisticallychallenged Yea turns out I paid 350$ for a china 30$ optic that's been rebranded by so many companies.... I'll just have to install it on another one that won't have a possibility of brass strike.
Thanks for the reply.
Casey
@ClearWaterPumpWell hopefully everything works out man 👊 thanks for watching 👍
…the original trigger reset is basically the same
Yea originally it was also light, but I could at least feel it.
Woop woop! 1st!
👊
The reset isn’t very audible. Even on the powder river install video it’s not that tactile
I know it.... I put the factory return spring back in it. I'll try it out when I get my slide back and see if it's any better 👍
I don’t think it’s important to hear the reset. When I shoot I don’t wait for the reset. After I fire the round I immediately prep my finger to receive the trigger as it resets.
For some shooting styles it doesn't matter. Like you just mentioned, if you're prepping your finger it doesn't matter, if you're prepping the trigger I think it matters. Everyone's style is different.
PDP Pro SD smokes the living shit outta the Echelon, for roughly $800 you get an amazing trigger, mag well and aluminum baseplates included. The Echeleon isn’t even a close second, the standard PDP also smokes the Echelon. The only thing the Echelon has that is truly unique and interesting is the optic mounting system
Ok👍
Well, thank you Mr. All knowing expert.
It's also snappier than a Echelon lol
That screw not being flush in the back strap is ugly af.
Port & maybe a gas pedal?
Possibly 👍
nice video
Thanks man👍
Why would anyone make a magwell that couldnt be used with factory baseplates? So you have to spend even more on their baseplates? Scam. No magwell is that good lol.
I’m right there with you. It sounds like poor designing or just a way to force you to buy their baseplates.
Agreed
Smart business.
Factory extended baseplates are the weak link in the Echelon. Several complaints of the 21 rd mags exploding out the bottom either on loading or during shooting. It would be bad judgment on CNC Patriot’s part to build a magwell for a gun with questionable mags. Any failure would then be blamed on that new magwell.
That raises further question….do you want to bet your life on a great handgun with possibly faulty mags? Modify the mags with new baseplates first. Then decide if you really need the magwell, and if so, add it on.
Safe shooting.
@@DrHaddix the ones breaking were not installed correctly. Taran tactical has extended mags. And extention that fits the xdm elite also works with the echelon mags.
Attaching a flared magwell is going to make the grip longer, which encroaches on the base plate of the magazine. If it doesn't, then it's not flaring enough to aid reloading
Did they fix the magazine issue with them falling out and the baseplate falling off and throwing ur ammo everywhere I've seen a shit load of those videos
From what I've heard, there was a bunch that were assembled wrong. As far as I know they are good now and you can fix them yourself if you have one that's screwed up.
doesn't seem like a very tactile reset on that trigger? is it supposed to be that way?
I'm not sure, I haven't hit up powder river precision yet to ask them
Messed with the recoil spring at all?
No I haven't
Demos the new trigger, says “crisp break” while rolling through the mush. 🤦♂️
Break is crisp... Take-up is where the "mush" is/would be 🤦
If you’re outright confusing take-up (slack or pre-travel) with a rolling break after the wall… I’d wonder why you’re reviewing guns. The slack is the trigger movement with no resistance, up to the wall. Pressure applied at the wall releasing the tension when the sear releases and sends the striker forward is the break.
You were visibly & clearly taking up the slack and stopping at the wall. Then several millimeters of travel as you pushed through the mushy rolling wall THEN we could hear it break. To really feel how crisp a striker fired pistol can feel, dry fire a Canik, particularly the Rival. Short pre-travel to a well defined wall and immediate break like snapping a glass rod. The closest a striker gun can get to a 1911 trigger.
It’s ok to misspeak. But at least own it. Nobody is perfect. Other than this one thing, the video was good and I enjoyed it.
I appreciate it 👍 in my opinion, a "mushy" trigger pull is a p320. A rolling break is not mush. No striker fired gun has a "glass rod" break not even the canik, there's no way around it (or someone would have done it by now). No confusion here, every striker fired gun has some roll in the break. So I guess I should have said "it has a short roll to a crisp break" ? 🤷 .... But when it does break, it's crisp. I get it, everyone has opinions but I wouldn't say this is anywhere near mush (p320)
@@ballisticallychallengedYep, I get that. And the more we think about it, the more vague the interpretations feel.
Heres a great example of the Canik Rival trigger against some others. IMO, it’s kinda like a light switch, on/off. Just boom, you’re one or the other lol

@@ballisticallychallenged have you shot yours yet?
Not since the trigger install.... I just got it put together this week.
Just removed my PRP trigger and springs. Think the OEM is superior for my needs. Turned a great break and reset to mushy with weak reset. Love the videos though!
Thanks for watching 👍
any idea why after i did this, the slide won’t slide off when field stripping unless i press on the trigger?
If you run the aftermarket magwell can you still run the factory mags?
Yes, their new design will let you run factory mags and their mag bases and extensions
Don't worry. Train more. You will get to the understanding that reset doesn't mean shit. Learn to reset during recoil.
Reset does mean shit when you can't feel it or hear it.
@ballisticallychallenged I disagree. Ever shoot double action revolvers? The trigger press come at the wall so it doesn't matter how far your finger comes off the trigger as long as you are on the wall when the sights settle. Trust me you will shave time, reduce flinching and be more accurate if you focus on just getting to the wall. Check out some old footage of Bill Wilson, Rob Latham ect...they never shot off the rest. Shooting off the reset costs you time and accuracy
@jamesfischer4813 totally different animal.... There is no wall to get to if it doesn't reset in a striker fired pistol.
Hmm i left mine alone and it shoots great. Why constantly mess around. Can't shoot without all the crap?
Mine shoots great too... With and without the accessories. 👍
What holster would you use?
I'm still looking for one to use with the Holosun light I have.
I'm pushing 4bros to make holsters for this setup. Drop them a comment on Instagram or email them so they push it forward 👍👍
so do i have to change the trigger on this pistol
No, you don't have to change the trigger. It's fine right out of the box, I just wanted to see what an aftermarket trigger would do.👍
or okay then @@ballisticallychallenged
why is everyone hung up on a reset......you dont shoot a reset......it means nothing but you guntubers make such a big deal about it
