I've seen alot of people in the comments debating if this was an original design by Billy or a Zero skateboards shirt. Although I don't have any definitive concrete proof I do know this, Billy started wearing this shirt in 1995 (Bullet With Butterfly Wings video, Mellon Collie CD booklet, Reading Festival in August), and according to every site I found regarding zero skateboards, the company wasn't founded until 1996, one year later.
Zero was a clothing company created by Jamie Thomas before Zero skateboards were around. There was even an advertisement for Zero in a Toy Machine video before JT left and started making boards under the Zero brand. I’m not 100% sure if his shirt is by Jamie Thomas’ Zero although I was always under the impression it was due to the design and colour. Zero skateboards starting after he wore the shirt is irrelevant because there was a clothing company called zero being started by the same people who went on to do boards at that time.

Billy Corgan shaved his head coz he was told he wasn't attractive? what! he was the prettiest dude around then! I remember clearly all the girls in my year all going on about him - kind of the first real pin-up grunge dude. Which is not to say the cobain, cornell and veder weren't pretty boys as well, but they just weren't really treated this way (maybe it was the slightly glam thing the pumpkins played up to .. .god knows)
i wasnt alive in the 90s but im a huge smashing pumpkins fan and i think billy before he was bald was really cute and attractive(esp with long hair) i always wondered if girls my age in the 90s thought he was cute this finally answers my questions😂😂
@@silverfck Ha, yeah, I just assumed he shaved his head to kind of 'stop' the pretty boy association, so it wouldn't override the music. God knows, or maybe he was just moving with the times; when that kind of 'the Matrix/weirdo' look which was starting to happen around then (compared to the cardigan op-shop looking grunge lot) esp with the more industrial metal bands like Marilyn Manson, 9 inch nails and ministry ... and carried on with some of nu-metal bands 5 or 6 years later. Funny really coz the pumpkins album with 'rhinoceros' on it was released the same time as never-mind (nirvana), but it wasn't really a hit (I used to hear it on college radio mainly. loved it! ) unlike nirvana, pearl jam etc. Siamese dream was a different story 2 or 3 years later (massive hit). So it kind of seemed at the time like they came out later; post grunge or whatever.
Strange that people said Billy Corgan was too unattractive. I'm not into men but he has the charisma of a massive artist. I've never once thought the guy looks ugly or anything like that, either. He's got his own style going on and he's confident with it. Sure he was losing hair and he shaved it all off but I don't think that really took anything away from his looks. Shame on the music industry for telling anyone they aren't "attractive enough" to sell records. If the music is good it's gonna sell. I'm tired of the pop music industry constantly regurgitating the same formula over and over again: an overly attractive and sexual person given beats to sing over (possibly with autotune) and music that transcends unoriginality and somehow finds a higher level of it than what we can actually perceive. It's more about looks and sexiness than the actual music to them.

He looks like sinead o'connor
I relate. Back in the 80s and 90s you had to be pretty or have super long hair to be taken seriously.
Stern hates his listeners.
I have a giant birthmark on my arm too like ginormous, it goes up my whole entire arm and I would get the same things as billy. That’s all. Just wanted to share.
Thought for sure all these years it was an early Zero Skateboards shirt from when Zero was just a clothing brand and Jamie Thomas was still on Toy Machine. But nope.
That is what the shirt was, but he wore it for his own personal meaning. He then made it his iconic signature shirt and later got the copyright from Zero Skateboards so he could sell it as Smashing Pumpkins merch.
But yep. You were right all this time.
I was the unlucky recipient of a huge birthmark on my left leg when I was at school in the 1970s and the derogatory comments
i was subjected to where shocking to say the least but still got it and now it's a talking point that's totally fine by me
Gilbert Arenas and Russell Westbrook wore #0 in the NBA to motivate themselves to prove their detractors wrong. (RW recently changed his # after being traded to GA’s old team.)
They said he wasn’t attractive! He was pre-baldness lol
When Billy had hair.
I saw him live when he did.
What a shame.
Lol
Since I first saw this picture when I was 7 years old I've always wondered wtf is he standing in front of? Solar panels or mirrors?
Apparently it was taken at a solar power plant in the Mojave Desert.
@@obscuredsatellitesinflight6034 thanks big dawg
I always just thought that was the skate brand zero and he wore it because it’s cool lol didn’t think it was that deep
It is and it was. He changes the story often lol
@@analogsignal how the fuck is it a shirt from the skateboard brand when Billy wore it a year before the company was even founded?
Source, I live it.
The skate company actually ripped it off because the band didn't trademark the shirt at the time.
My cousin used to have a zero shirt.
Until now I never knew why Billy was bald. Thumbs ☝
DRG What's the truth? He was losing his hair
I know The Smashing Pumpkins bought the rights for the shirt from the skateboard company. I've always thought he was a good looking guy, and wouldn't turn down the opportunity to be 6 foot 3

Billy Corgan is rumored to be a eunuch
@@angeleliofthefamilydiaz1226 People with marfan's syndrome also usually grow to be very tall but have very low testosterone, so they usually need to take injections to have normal levels.
I though the ZERO t shirt he was wearing was the Skateboard brand, I was wrong all this time.
Wait are you serious?
How can a KING think he's nothing ???? 🤔
DJ Ivory Tower
Corgan clearly stole this shirt idea from Borderlands 2. I think that video game came out before he was born or something
Zero the amount Impact Wrestling is worth today
Like Lennon, Collins, and Winehouse his speaking voice is different from his singing voice.
I always thought billy looked like Ethan hawke
So, we must say doing a Billy Corgan instead of doing a Britney Spears
