I'm amazed that with ALL those effects over the years that Corgan can even remember which ones he used on what songs/albums. I guess we all have kind of our mainstays, and once those are changed out, they stay in memory, although his recall here is impressive. And to those of you shocked by his "treatment" of these pedals, he is not "throwing" or "tossing" them around. Most of these are quite solidly built to withstand the force of being "stomped" over and over. All I see him doing here is merely picking them up and putting them back down. He's not being ginger about it, but not destructive. These pedals can handle it. I love the "Robin Trower Overdrive." Billy says he needs that "just in case he (Trower) shows up." Hilarious.
People complaining about him chucking the metal boxed pedals back into the cart - these things get stood on for a living. Plus he's had them for 20+ years and they're still alive
Someone who ever opened up such a pedal knows that they are actually junk. Especially for a millionnaire who owns gear that is worth way more than a shopping cart full of aluminium boxes made of a few cheap resistors. I adore those pedals too. But they just got so expensive and precious for us because of the vintage market. They were junk back then and they are junk today.
@@matiasmoulin2126 I wouldn't say they're junk, but I agree they're not exactly very valuable today, especially considering how far digital audio technology has progressed. You could just model one on your computer now.
@@aquathemage1680 I know. That's my point. The "junk" is sarcasm - considering how cheaply they are actually made compared to an iPhone. Just think about how people thew them away in the 80s or smashed them in the 90s. I lust for those pedals too, but they only have an emotional value now which leads to high prizes because they are vintage. We don't really need them anymore but yet we love them. I can't afford them, that's why I build clones myself.
Wow... after years of watching everything Billy's released... I just now realized he had that birthmark... and always has had it in plain sight now that I look at other vids, pics and most notably The cover to The Future Embrace! Guess I was just mostly in awe of the talent all this time!
That's an insane amount of pedals. I'm actually impressed that you still remember all of their uses! There's definitely some magic in there. Easily some of my favorite leads and solos ever have come from that shopping cart!
This was really cool to see. You never hear any bands talk about this sort of thing, but not you guys. ;) I've always been curious about the little aspects that help make some of the most important contributions to the music, like this. Awesome vid!
my god this is so inspiring, the coolest thing is that he shows the settings and that he has a WH10 Ibanez pedal!!! never seen anyone using it apart from john frusciante
The man that made me want to get a Big Muff pedal for myself, and it’s still one of my favourite pedals that I own (my band was doing Today at the time and I wanted to get a Muff to sound more “authentic”, and plus I’ve always wanted a fuzz pedal)
@rodrigoNIN90 the fender blender and the micrsynth by EHX were heavily used during the siamese era... im quite sure the geek usa solo is a microsynth or a blender, as well as the majority of the solos from that album... as well he has used a lot of modular synths to process his audio
@jacka1996 The first Big Muff he is holding I believe is the "V3" version of the Big Muff from the 1970s, the switch being a Tone Bypass that comes with the pedal. The second one he holds up which he says was the main one used on Siamese Dream is the "V4 Op-Amp" Big Muff pedal, also from the 1970s, which has an on-off switch.
@zzzsyzzz thanks, I appreciate it. Not sure how expensive they are or where to find one, but if I figure out which one it is I'll try and get my hands on one. It's my favorite solo of all time lol
After owning a few, selling a few, the one I still have is actually a Mooer Elec Lady. It nails the OG mistress tone. I hate to admit it, but I also neglected to fix my original Phase 90, as the Mooer Orange 90 or whatever it's called nails both the script and block logo tones. They do have some duds, but their modulation pedals are surprisingly sturdy and goddamn accurate clones of their predecessors.
I wonder if I can get close to the sound with what I got. For distortion I have a MXR prime distortion, for a fuzz I have a JHS 3 fuzz and for a phaser I have tc electronic helix phaser. I probably could.....
@MistaaMojoRisin There's a lot going on with SD, guitar-wise. I haven't really heard the Fender Blender clearly in use for anything apart from the live version of "Slunk" on Vieuphoria, and it's supposed to be on the middle part of "Bullet with Butterfly Wings". I think the Fender Blender is just for "noise" stuff.
what do you guys think the big muff settings were? he adjusted one of them, it looked like to me 12, 1, then wide open. the other one they show at the end, i dont think that is the one he adjusted...
I see a BOSS HF-2 Hiband Flanger here. I think that might be what they used for the sweeps on the song "Love" off MCIS. Ive got that pedal too and unlike someone else who posted here I think it sounds pretty cool. I think it sounds a lot like what you hear on "Love" but then again they might have used something completely else for it. got mine cheap 2 months ago in almost like new condition. a lot of the older BOSS pedals are pretty cool and Ive gathered a whole bunch of them now.
Fuck ive been messing around with my little big muff for a year now trying to get the perfect sound for cherub rock and quiet. I had it right the whole time!
loool Judging by Kerry's laughter towards the end It almost seems like Billy must be giving him the "cut, stop recording" gesture, I spotted some interesting pedals hiding in there that he may wanna keep to himself about.
I would have never guessed Billy's talking voice... I always imagined his most-common talking note to be about a about 1/2-to-3/4 an octave higher, more akin to him singing.
When Billy says he used the big muff, distortion 2, and the phaser for lead tones, does he mean solos only? From my understanding, he uses the big muff, but then adds the distortion 2 and the phaser for solos on siamese dream. Is this correct, or did he use them all at the same time even on the verses of songs?
Despite all his rage he still keeps his pedals in a cage.
"we used to play that on Siamese Dream" *throws it into the cart like nothing*
ITS HURTS ME
I love how easily he shows you how to have the exact Siamese dream tone he had
He has no problem showcasing a signature album tone - it's awesome
@@orochi6312 he's iconic enough for people to know its HIS tone. He doesn't need to keep it a secret anymore
He didn't throw it are you blind LOL.
From what I could tell:

Right. If people only knew the amount of use and abuse they get on tour.
@Underdog knocking the electronics out of place makes for a great fuzz

@@xyu2198 the big red one on his arm/hand. He references it in Today actual. “Pink ribbon scars” or so I think
Same
I didnt know until now
When he pulled the original Big Muff Pi for Siamese Dream and put it to the settings, I was having a seizure of awesomeness.
me too
"Yeah these are on eBay right now for a thousand a piece" CLUNK!
Throws it back in the cart like every other pedal he owns.
@Ahhh Ahhh I made a thousand bucks a month after tax at pretty decent job for a whole year. Telling you, pretty hungry days!
@Ahhh Ahhh a million dollars a day. Now that'll work! 😆
He's a multi millionaire so he won't be sleepless over a few pedals
Sooo cool!! Side note: Pale Horse has become one of my absolute favorite songs!! I love every detail about it ... lyrics, music... 🖤
I wish there was a Smashing Pumpkins museum. This video was really cool. Thanks Billy.
very cool of billy to share his settings like that with us...thanks billy!

The bloody finger is available at Guitar Tone Company.

Really awesome stuff! All that equipment for some awesome guitar tones!
This video needs to be several hours longer. I would love to spend a week or two playing with all those pedals.
like in deatiled catalgoe rundown, like 1 min explainer of each pedal, what album/songs, or tour used, customizations, his rating on it, etc
As a pedal fan, this was a real treat.
He didn't mention it, but great to see the purple Boss Hi-band flanger in there!
Yes! I just got one a few months ago, and it's magical! ❤
Shocking to see so many. Love the inside look at all the toys! I wanna be there looking through those saying YO show me what this one does

The toggle switch at the back is an "off/on" switch. If you look closely above the middle (tone) knob its marked as "off" and "on".

If ever that went up for Auction, i'm sure it would catch a pretty penny or two.
