This Transmission is for a 1956 T-Bird, Had to rebuild it and was being shipped overseas. At the end i show the Torque Converter apart as well. Thanks for watching.
Just wanted to let you know the information you shared was invaluable and helped me tremendously as I installed a shift kit in my 62 small case Cruise O Matic for my Galaxie. It was a bit of a challenge with the transmission still in the car but I got it done. Waiting on on a shift lever seal and then I can put the valve body back in and seal it back up. Anyway thanks for sharing this video!
How'd it turn out? I'm starting the exact same thing for my 65 Galaxie FX; shift kit and shifter seal(s). Did you have to remove the "intermediate band" (the part with the 2 tubes connecting to the throttle body) to get it back in? I had to loosen it to get the throttle body out and it was still a struggle. I'm thinking the throttle body won't line up right unless I can get those 2 tubes out of the way. I haven't started to crack open the throttle body yet. Nasty cut on my finger ended my night early. I'm a bit nervous going into this so any hints, tips or tricks would be helpful!
This would be a Ford-O-Matic as there is no sprag. It would take off in second gear and kickdown to first if required. First gear would be engaged only in Manual Low.
First trans I ever rebuilt. There were three flavors: FX (small displacement), MX (medium), and FM (large). Most of the drums are similar, and the number of clutches made the most difference. Old Borg-Warner patent. Till mid 50’s the low band was used to hold the planetary for first till the roller clutch was introduced.
Also early Ford O Matic cases had the dipstick under the floor on the passenger side. If you use a later model pan you can switch to the under-hood type dipstick which is easier to use. Unless you are going to a car show, no one will even notice. The torque converter has drain plugs for easy fluid changes. If I remember anything else, I will post it here. I do have some memory pills, but I keep forgetting to take them. 😊
I hope your exporter customer needs a Hydramatic from a '59 Caddy some day. I'd love to see the inside of that transmission that I used to abuse as a teenager. Great channel Gary.
You do realize that there is information on EVERYTHING on RUclips right? Do a search and you will find more than one video on the Hyramatic. Weber Auto has a 5 part series.
Hello Gary, can u tell me how to check my front oil pump is used? What clearance is accepted? My transmission works fine but i change reverse belt and i open pump, and looks worse than yours.

Love your videos and your general persona! You always take time to focus on the details and keep your customers in mind. I’m curious about a cast-iron transmission not rusting on the outside… Is there some sort of coating? I hope you don’t have to “season” it after you’re done lol ! Anyway, keep up the awesome work. I’m not a transmission mechanic or apprentice, but I love watching the videos. Have a great week, Gary!
@@GaryFerraro I have a question, I have 6L80E 6speed and a 2011 Tahoe. I've been experiencing slight shutter on acceleration and slightly rough downshifting and third and second and revving when put into reverse occasionally. Sometimes takes a while to shift some gears. I'm leaning towards torque converter? Thank you for your response in advance! I'd really appreciate it!
Gary, I don't think I missed it but what does this trans do for modulation? Important! - Let's see the 10R80 you mentioned. I requested this a couple of weeks ago.😁😁
@@skutahuniai4830 Filmed this a while ago, just watched it and did not see it, meanwhile i have one at the shop now that i just changed the modulator, Guess this uses just the Govenor. Going to find out though
Skutahuniai.... It provides throttle pressure by a linkage rod that connects to the carburetor. This also controls kick-down ability. Plus, this is an early model 56 trans, the late models were water cooled thru the radiator.
@@blitz8619 Yes it is, if this is a 6T70, in input speed sensor is located on the rear cover, that will have to be unplugged and the wire pulled through to get the cover off. Watch to see how everything goes back, it all may come out at once

Pretty nice .
Great job.
Same as the oldest power glides with a pump on the back for reverse .
That 66 year old transmission looks like it is in very good condition!
was in very good shape, the guy we bought it from was happy to get rid of it, said it's been sitting there for 5 years

What type of ATF fluid should i use in Soviet copy of fordomatic 3 speed small case? It has metal-ceramic and steel clutch discs
