As a black man. Im so happy our women are embracing the natural hair and beauty. I grew up in a household full of females and was the only male. I used tell my sister stop doing perms, relaxers, weave glue, etc. They would ignore and I thought they were stupid. At the time I didnt understand the society pressures to fit in this European Standard of beauty with straight hair.
Erica M True. An additional issue is black women tend to not know how to take care of thier because thier mothers didnt know or care to teach them. A lot of black women have been conditioned to just deal with perms and weave.
@Elyse George= Please Don't Blame Me.... but the Cosmetology school system... I've Been a Stylist for 13 Years now. When I was in Cosmetology School they DIDN'T teach me anything about Black or Ethnic Hair. For almost 2 years I studied the theory of hair to prepare for the certification test to become a licensed Minnesota State Cosmetologist. My class spent over 1000 hours washing, cutting, coloring, setting, perming, relaxing, straightening, finger waving, pin curling, and blowing out white manikins. My instructors, were whites as well, with a straight Hair. I'm a Black African immigrant originally from Ethiopia. I struggled with my own hair after coming to the US for many years, My Natural hair type is 3-C 4-A and I used Relaxers, straightener & color for many years. I didn't stop using relaxers until seven years ago....even after I stopped getting relaxers, I didn't know how to care for my Natural hair and I straightened my hair every week. ..constantly exposed to heat...I was Addicted to My Flat Iron and It Almost Cost Me My Hair.....While I hadn't chemically treated my hair in years, my hair was still damaged from using constant hair straightener. I had to learn how to style and take care of my hair all over again. Last year, I made the decision to go the entire year heat free. No flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers, nothing. It was a huge step for me, These days, my curls look better than they ever have. They still never full recovered from the years and years of heat and chemical damage, so my hair is much thinner and shorter than the glory days I remember as a kid. But it's healthy, and I'm hoping that as I continue to take care of it, some of that length and thickness will come back. If it doesn't, that's also fine. Because now I'm healthier, too -
Europeans have wooly hair don’t get it confused with the cave men they stole the title of European research it all those black people depicted in Europe weren’t all moors from Morocco
WOW!!! your hair is BEAUTIFUL! you are officially my hair crush! Thanks for sharing!! I have struggled sooooooooo long with learning to love my hair. Being multiracial (Half white half black) ive never actually been taught the proper ways to care for my curls resulting in me resenting the texture of my hair. Now at 24 years old i am FINALLY learning to love me naturally. Thank god for people like you proving that curly/kinky hair is "good hair" too, all it needs is a little love and the proper regime.
This has to be one of the BEST hair journey videos I have ever seen!!! And, trust me, I have seen my fair share of them. Your sweet voice, proper enunciations, and more than enough photos, all helped to guide us along your very successful hair journey. Thank you so much for sharing! Your videos are most enjoyable and informative! 😉
Awwww🙏thank you so much for sharing your journey with all of us!!! I truly enjoyed seeing your growth because it gives me determination and motivation that I will get there one day!! It's so hard having the patience to go through the trial and error ofgetting our hair to a Healthy Growing stage and I know all of us who are transitioning are going through this!!!😌 So again thank you sis!!! And CONGRATULATIONS!!!🎉🎉🎉because you've came a long way 👏👏👏 Can't wait to see your live cast... I'm here for it boo!!😊✌
I havent seen a hair journey video sooo perfectly made as this one. Its literally detailed, amazing editing, easy follow through pictures, video on point girl!! Very inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing. I am very proud to be your subscriber! I would in a heartbeat, recommend anyone to your channel! Just thank you
Yes!! Healthy + beautiful hair & a lovely young lady!! I'm so glad you stuck with the protective styles, trimming the ends, deep conditioning & not using a lot of products. My hair is now an inch past the shoulders & I LOVE the freedom of walking in the rain, not worrying about sweating for a workout & letting the wind blow thru it. Sometimes, I will still throw on a wig or bun but that is like every so often. We definitely can grow long, healthy curls with a little patience. A press & curl done is ok for special occasions. But, if done every week, just like a perm, the heat damage will dry out the hair or destroy the curl pattern. It's exhilarating, isnt it -- to love & respect your natural hair??! Congrats on reaching your goal of tailbone length, BEAUTIFUL hair!!
JUST AMAZING! It’s so cool to see the before and after pictures, I’m still trying to figure out a routine but you always inspire me to keep it up and not give up on this journey
Love this video. I had long thick hair and never appreciated it (perms, weaves, dyes, etc) and when I started to realize how blessed I was it was too late. Genetics kicked in and my hair started thinning. Ladies, appreciate the gift and take good care of it for those of us who are now forced to wear wigs and weaves. You can fight lazy but can't flip the script on the genes you get. I had only hoped it would skip my generation.
I've been natural for almost a decade and have watched tons of videos and read many forums and blogs, ur videos have been some of the most helpful, unique, and informative videos. thank u so much!
YES MA'AM!! This really brightened my day. I just recently cut all my damaged ends off after going blonde. My hair was to my hip and I want it back desperately. But I'm still glad I cut it off. Had to let that hurt go.
Growing up as a black women, were there challenges living on the south for you? Did you experience racial injustice and gender inequality? I think every black women goes through that at some point in time because unfortunately that is how the world 🌎 works. It is sad but I think it is an important question to ask? You can disagree through.
OMG, YOU ARE MY QUEEN!!!! Yes, you have motivated me to start my hair journey. I did not think this could be possible with my type of hair and me being so impatient with it. Please please please keep making hair videos and help me through this journey !
I am used to just having singles in my hair. I usually have the braids take them out, wash my hair, and then get them done again. So mostly just how often, in the beginning, did you wash your hair? and the steps of putting in all these products into my hair
You’re so positive and very uplifting. I’ve started my natural hair journey TWICE now. It’s so hard for me to stay away from bleach 😔 but I really want to grow my hair this time so I’m chunking the bleach method away. My ends are still blonde, but they won’t last much longer. I’m ready to do it girl and you are inspiring me 😘
Yay! You can do it! Ain't no shame in starting over because you learn more each time. I sometimes get the urge to color my hair and I will do my hair in a new style to satisfy the need to switch it up. Wearing colored wigs help too! I wish you the very best on your journey 💕
Beautiful! I'm so happy I found your channel this is really inspiring! And I've been taking care of my hair 10x better because of your channel! Thanks for the encouragement and sharing this with us! 💓💓
It is going well...I am year 4 and my hair is mid back/ waist length. Using Ayurveda herbs and my hair is thicker and longer that it have even been in my entire life....next goal is tailbone length which I believe I can achieve...
Lisa Essien omG i’m sooo happy for you. I started mine this year and it’s so short. I hope it will grow and be healthy like yours. I’m currently at shoulder length. Which Ayurvedic herbs do you use?
WOW...I am more than impressed. I am sitting here in my bedroom on my desktop computer. I am (no joke) frozen in time. I can't move. You were so thorough, personable and professional all in one. Your presentation was given with passion accompanied with a testimony of truth. Leading me only to say, I am so proud of you. YOU have made me a believer. As you said, "Trust the Process". You have melted down my resistance to doing it my way. So from this moment on, I commit to stop trying to reinvent the wheel and ride on the tires you created. From here on out, you can call it a tailgate. Because I'm in.Ready to ride on your regiment.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. I will continue to trust the process. Like you, I'm learning something new each year to improve my hair health. What I saw throughout your process is that trimming off bad ends is very important to have healthy hair.
What inspiration! Love the year by year walk-thru! Condensed enough to watch it thoroughly! I would have watched a longer video on this one! I did the same, using a scarf for hair when I was young, etc. And I am willing to put the work in. Only been able to grow just below bra-strap length then it breaks and am finding out I've neglected deep conditioners, protective styling and I hate trims!! But now I see the benefit and doing it in stages helps. Thanks for the blunt honesty you shared. Going for waist length and using your guidance to get there. Need 4 inches!!
Thank you for sharing your journey! Is just proves that long healthy hair is not a quick fix, you must put in the work to get it. I started my journey twice, first in 2012 I big chopped and stopped using heat and silicone/sulphate products and again I big chopped in January of this year. I didn't have the healthiest routine although I was using the right products and my hair suffered, that's why I big chopped the 2nd time. My hair was BSL this time when I cut it all to one inch all around because I was determined to have healthy hair. Using a consistent routine and trimming my ends when needed has caused my hair to thrive. I have a long way to go to achieve my goal of waist length but I stick to the product at work for me and continue my routine.
Trust the process and after are true words of wisdom!!!! They're the motto I live by. It's hard sometimes to trust the process when things are challenging but it's so worth it in the end. It's also very true that we value the things that challenge us the most. Sometimes we/i need to learn to just let things unfold as they may. That doesn't mean don't work to better what you can it just means put in the effort and trust that the results will follow on their own time in their own way.
Love this video! Please do more videos on your favorite protective styles. I can't commit to long term protective styles like box braids, but I noticed all of yours were temporary !
I am amazed at how your curl pattern almost changed! It started out looking like tight curls and then turned into ringlets. Wow, love your curls (both).
Just cut off my locs after 12 years and have extremely frizzy roots on my short tapered cut. My goal is to grow my hair out as long as possible so I truly appreciate your knowledge and tips. I think we have similar hair texture so I’m excited to hopefully have a better start than I did when I went natural 15 years ago. Things went horrible which is why I ended up locing and I loved my locs but I truly want to see what my natural hair in its naturalist state can do. Trying the Cherry Lola method tonight. Thanks so much for sharing your journey 💞
+Therese Ayo Barro Yep! Once you learn your hair it’s a piece of cake and you don’t even have to think about your routine. And 😂 it’s crazy to see him grow up in this video
It took me 10 years to grow my hair out to classic length (bum length) from chin length. It takes some time, but if you trim conservatively (just when needed, not just because) it will grow longer!
I am now back to tailbone length (I trimmed a huge chunk last year), and am growing back to classic (bum) length and even beyond that. I am no-trimming for a while now (which is a challenge on the long hair forum I'm on), so I'm hoping to grow quite quickly the next few years.
You have such a beautiful hair journey, I loved seeing the different stages of your hair and it was definitely an inspiration to me that it is possible to have healthy and long hair.
Love your journey. You had to be so patient. Thank you for being one to break away from beliefs that dont serve us.. like the belief that we cant have long, healthy hair. I believe that I am on the right path and wathing your videos help me to Know that it is just a matter of time. I too was a head scarf wearer. For me it was moms best silk slips and skirts. How funny! We knew who we were and had no shame about it. Way to go with making that journey back to your inner child and fufilling her as well. That is the most uplifting part about this all. Thank You for documenting your healing. I am a 4b hair texture and I know that everyones hair os different but, I was wondering what your hair texture is because I dream of having hair like you. Cool to watch your videos. I am not giving up on my hair! Sincerely, Airie
@@PowerInYourCurl Wow thanks for replying! A year later I come to this video again for the 3rd time. I big chopped on Feb 28 2019.. so im now back at the start o.o Only 8 months in. How do you stay motivated? Edit: Also I find this so inspiring cause my hair looks exactly like yours!
So gorgeous! My whole life I wanted long flowing hair. I used to make "wigs" out of construction paper when I was little by stapling long strips to a head band...those beauty standards...Just starting my natural hair journey and hoping I can get it healthy again!
I enjoyed your video. I have been natural for 2 years and 2 months. I transitioned for a year and then I big chopped. I keep my hair regiment simple. I am learning to be patient and consistant. I have always had long hair, but I feel like it is taking longer for my hair to grow. My hair comes down to my shoulders.
Your voice reminds me of Rachel's, from the Bachelorette. Great journey! We all want to get where you have, in figuring out how to make our natural hair thrive. I'm still not there. I had a great conditioner, that worked so well, Moisture Rich with vitamin e. But Tresumme changed the formula. My hair is funny with oils, and the wrong conditioners. TFS.
Just bumped into this video and I love your hair journey! I just did a big chop and went natural and this has been a big inspiration. Thanks you for sharing! 😍
You are a great role model that I am so glad that I found. You have such a beautiful and amazing journey! I love you and your channel! I am so sad that I going to miss the live Q&A. 😭😭😭😭😭 I have soccer ⚽️ practice. But I would love it if you could answer the questions that I have
Thank you for sharing your hair journey. Is there any way that you can write out your simple step by step process. I have a sixteen year old who is doing dual enrollment (junior in high school and taking college classes to complete an associate by the time she graduates from high school in 2019), she is looking to go into the U.S. Air Force (following her Momma's footsteps) and I want to go ahead and get her started now, so by the time she goes to Officer Training school, including boot camp, she can have her regimen down pat and keep her mid back length natural hair and grow it longer. The great thing is she will have to keep her hair up in some form of protective styling and I want to concentrate now on getting her products and styling regimen down pat, as I will not be there to help her. Also, I am 55 and I want to grow my hair out as long as possible. I have low porosity, fine, thin and soft, 3c/4a/4b hair. I want to concentrate on buying store bought products because my budget is very tight. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I truly love, love, love your videos and look forward to the next one. By the way, I know your schedule is busy, but if you can send me an email at Janice.Jones.Sanders@gmail.com it would be greatly appreciated. I am interested in what you did between 2014, 2015, 2016 up to now. Thank you and may the Lord continue to bless you and your husband and family throughout your travels and journeys. xoxoxo :)
Thank you for sharing your journey with us and also parts of your life. It was so nice to see all your photos from growing up and I loveee the photo of you and your husband at 8:34, that really made me smile lol! You've given me new hope to try to make more of an effort with my hair instead of complaining that it doesn't grow enough lol
I really enjoy watching your videos! It appears we have the same type of hair. Mine is fine and very prone to breakage. I also have an extremely itchy scalp. My beautician can was my haoir and I'm scratching before she can get it dry! After seeing this same spot fall out for the umpteenth time, I figured it's time to stop regrowing the same hair and go natural and healthy. I'm just starting, had my last relaxer on 03/01/2018 but look forward to getting on with this journey to healthy hair. I was going to do sister locks until I started watching your videos and now I believe I can do this! I'm going to try! I look forward to seeing my curl pattern although I am afraid of the transition period and the BIG CHOP! I look forward to more of your videos!
Congratulations on your decision to go natural ❤️ I know the thought of the unknown can be scary but YOU CAN DO IT! No matter what happens don’t forget that. This is also one of the most beautiful time periods in a hair journey because you are undergoing a transformation ☺️ I am so happy that my videos are helpful for you and let me know if there are any videos hat you would like to see!
Great journey, you inspire me too! Can you do an update on all those black owned products that you bought? Were they any good? Which ones worked the best?
Thank you! Yes I can. I have filmed reviews of Keraveda and Curl Origin and will be posting them throughout the next week. I will probably talk about my favorites out of all of them in a Best of 2017 video in December.
OMG, you are amazing! Your hair and your journey is just like mine, but I'm still struggling. The learning curve is real. We have the same hair too. I need to consult you for sure.
Great video! Is there anything that you started doing differently to your hair? The beginning stages of your journey your curls wasn't as defined. Maybe it didn't retain moisture? Right now, I am so frustrated with my hair. When I first went natural/transitioned, my hair was so moisturized and defined. I have to admit that i wasn't really deep conditioning, using protein, or doing the full loc method. Partially because I didn't know (I went natural in 2010 ad it wasn't talked about much then like it was now) that I was supposed to be doing some of those things and then there was times that I didn't have the funds to do so. So now my curls look really good when wet but once the moisture leaves it just look dry with no definition. Similar to some of your older pictures. Your video does give me hope though. I will give it a year of caring for my hair according to my porosity without using heat but if i don't see a difference I'm just goung to cut or perm it.
girl ur face, skin is flawless...even without makeUp...please can u drop a face routine...am really going through a Rough face stage...I got a reaction from something I applied on my face..pls thnks
Thank you this a good video! I am considering the big chop but maybe i can straighten and trim as you did every three months, and figure out what products work and what styles i can pull off. Dude its so hard going through the weird phase.
Thank u for the video. I going through a damaging hair right now. From relaxer and rinses ( color ). Wishes damaged my hair very badly! So I cut my top of my hair first. Since it grows faster! The perm out! The spots has grow back already! Thank God! It been 6 months now since I had a perm and color now! Trying to get my hair back healthy. It were so bad! Hand of hair came out!!😂! And I were going the professional too! Now I doing my own hair and my scalp is healthy again! Just need to go slowly to grow my hair back! And I went 3 years before all natural hair until I let my hairdresser talked me into a perm! And it were the wrong choice! But I know it’s a process but I will get through it! Do u have any suggestions I should do? It’s did stop breaking now! Thank u so much for your video!! 🙌🏾💞
Heeeyyy! It's one of my favorite youtubers....girl I had been wondering where u at. I love this video. Awesome story/journey! To be honest I'm not exactly sure where I'm at with my journey. I've been natural for almost 4 years. I've always had long hair. My biggest challenge is styling my hair. I watch video after video, it looks easy but somehow it gets lost. I'm just not crafty with my hands but I have a hopeful spirit so I'm not giving up. Thanks for sharing ur journey. Today is my B-day! Scorpio in DA house! ☺☺☺

True. An additional issue is black women tend to not know how to take care of thier because thier mothers didnt know or care to teach them. A lot of black women have been conditioned to just deal with perms and weave.
I kindve dont understand how black men get so disappointed in black women doing different things to their hair when black men always cut theirs off..

Good luck, you can do it! Thank you so much for your kind words and your support. You will reach your goal in no time 😊
Beautiful journey.
Thank you for sharing your hair journey with us. I'm inspired. ❤️
All this time I thought you were like in your 30s lol I graduated in 2012 too !
Yes : ) I watched Kaylyn Ivy deep conditioning changed my hair video and it is astounding the difference it makes!
Beautiful hair journey its really learning about your hair and getting the most ,your brother is also fine
+Marleen G. This was so true for me too. Overtrimming was a bad habit I had to break and it greatly influenced my length once I did!
I am now back to tailbone length (I trimmed a huge chunk last year), and am growing back to classic (bum) length and even beyond that. I am no-trimming for a while now (which is a challenge on the long hair forum I'm on), so I'm hoping to grow quite quickly the next few years.
Wow! Excellent growth and looks like alot of milestones in a 7 year period!!!
I've watched many natural hair videos and this by far has been the best. Thank you!
Lovely! So nice to see your journey after watching so many of your videos! I'm encouraged! BTW I wore the same exact wedding dress!
This gives me so much inspiration! I️ just did my second big chop and I️m ready to get serious about my hair! ❤️❤️💗 Thank you for sharing!!
You have such a beautiful hair journey, I loved seeing the different stages of your hair and it was definitely an inspiration to me that it is possible to have healthy and long hair.
This is like the best Natural hair growth journey video I have seen. Thank you for sharing!!
I'm here smiling my ass off like an idiot 😆 lovely journey 👏
You've just inspired and motivated me.. I've been so lazy in trying and wanting to grow my hair long, now I feel I will really try harder. Thanks!
You are very welcome. Good luck on your journey!
TFS.
Thank you for sharing!! Watching your video gave me the extra push I needed to continue on my own natural hair journey❤️ Love you!!
I've watched this 3 times now! Very inspirational, I've just big chopped. It's going to be a long process but watching this helps ❤
Just bumped into this video and I love your hair journey! I just did a big chop and went natural and this has been a big inspiration. Thanks you for sharing! 😍
So inspiring! One day I’ll get there. Thanks for sharing !!
So proud of you for staying true on your journey. I️ plan to do the same girl. Great video!
You can do it! And thank you so much.
As a child I also used to put a scarf or often a towel on my head and pretend it was mine because my hair was so curly and short and i didnt like it
You go girl. Your hair is so beautiful.
Thank you Yana.
Thanks for the picture and length dating. It helps me to keep track of my personal growth goals.
No problem!
Thank you so much for sharing this, this video really inspired me to start taking care of my natural curls again and your hair is beautiful!
Yes, a Q&A! I am so excited! Great video! I love you journey. I love how you make goals and don’t stop time you get there! 😘😘😘
Thank you and may the Lord continue to bless you and your husband and family throughout your travels and journeys. xoxoxo :)
OMG!!!!! You have, by far the most beautiful hair that I have ever seen my dear!!! I also have low porosity hair.
Thank you Tammie! 💕
Absolutely Beautiful! Thank You for sharing your journey with pics! 🙏🏽Your an inspiration!🥰💋
OMG THIS VIDEO IS EVERYTHING!!! So inspiring
Looking at your older pics I see that we have similar hair . Whenever my Moisture gets right all the way I’ll be poppin
What an amazing hair journey! I can't wait for the "Live Chat"!!
+Naturally MarMar Thank you! And I can’t wait to see you there 😊
wowww!! your hair journey amazedddd meee!!! Your curls glowed up!! they are so defined and gorgeous!!!!! wowww just wowwwwwww
This is also one of the most beautiful time periods in a hair journey because you are undergoing a transformation ☺️ I am so happy that my videos are helpful for you and let me know if there are any videos hat you would like to see!
wow this is SO MOTIVATING I LOVE IT SO MUCH! your curls are way tighter than mine but this is still so amaziiing i love it
Beautiful journey! Definitely lucky to have found your channel. 🌺
What a wonderful representation of your hair journey! It was very well done! Inspiring!!!
Thank you Rina!
Great hair journey story. Thank you for sharing. Def giving me hope🤗💜
Very Beautiful hair Journey. Do you drink alot of water? Cant wait for your you-tube live! 😊
This is such a great video! So professional and informative! Thanks so much for sharing! Your hair is amazing!
Aww, thank you so much!
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your journey
You are an inspiration, thank you for your transparency!
OMG, you are amazing! Your hair and your journey is just like mine, but I'm still struggling. The learning curve is real. We have the same hair too. I need to consult you for sure.
Just got my pdf :) I'm really excited to see the growth this year 2019
Great video! I will give it a year of caring for my hair according to my porosity without using heat but if i don't see a difference I'm just goung to cut or perm it.
that ponytail is like wow
Very well documented journey! Enjoyed watching:)
You inspire me to go natural❤
Aww thank you so much Tamika!

Aww thank you Lori!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful hair journey
Inspired and my hair is similar to yours I’m praying that my hair gets to waist length then tailbone I’m at my shoulders
Thank you this a good video! I am considering the big chop but maybe i can straighten and trim as you did every three months, and figure out what products work and what styles i can pull off. Dude its so hard going through the weird phase.
Totally unrelated but ughhhh you’re so pretty 😪😪😪😪
WOW, I love ALL the photos!!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much!
Your Journey Is So Inspiring...Love Love Love It Beautiful..!!!
wow your hair looks so gorgeous! how long do you plan on growing it out for now? i'm on month 20 and its changed my life
OMG is that Lisa Perkins Jackson. I went to high school with lisa. I haven’t seen lisa in a long time. She is a great singer!!!
Awesome journey! And great lessons learned along the way :)
