Just bought a 2016 XF 2.0D Prestige saloon to replace my Mk1 2013 2.2D Sportbrake. The improvement in the engine is vast. Gone is that tractor rumble on start up and the engine pulls far better at low revs. It is often in a gear higher than my old car would have pulled. Drove 350 miles home from the dealer and the trip computer said 56.5mpg overall, I know from experience that these measurements are optimistic by about 10% but still far better than the old car - no doubt helped by the 229kg weight reduction with the new aluminium body. Over 42.000 miles in my old car I average 35.4mpg. I am hoping this one will be consistently in the mid 40s. Infotainment system much improved but still lags behind the best German efforts. Downsides? - A pronounced whine from the turbocharger and far too much road roar for a car in this class - on 17" 225/55 section tyres. Road noise only reduces to acceptable level on the smoothest motorway tarmac.
I think you got a poor model. The interior of my xf r sport 2017 is excellent. Solid thru out and quiet. I have no problem with the rear view. You made it sound dangerous which is misleading. You didn't show the boot which is massive. You get an awful lot of bang for your buck with the xf. Q
Great Video Review. I'm disappointed by some of the Interior quality which I hope gets Improved In the future. The New XF Sportbrake Estate will join the range In the Autumn
Robert Lloyd did you think higher or lower? It is a very good car to drive with a wonderful ride and impressive economy. Lost points for engine refinement and build quality issues.
Not really. I've sat in plenty of 08 reg XF's & the interiors are still good & rattle free. I don't fall the German build quality myth. It's just a myth! Many German makes have average to poor reliability in JD Power surveys & are ranked lower than Jaguar! I had an Audi which always leaked in rain water!
Jaguar do need to up their game where interiors are concerned. I mean, Land Rover are in a different league in this respect. Jaguar do well on seat colours compared to some even more staid rivals though, but that's where it ends. Which is a pity because I'm still nostalgic for my lovely 1997 XK8 with teal seats and dash top combined with the 'aircraft wing' dash in walnut. You just don't get that 'wow factor' with current Jaguars apart from the XJ

I'm sure that you are correct that they are durable. That's not what I had in mind though. 'Style' and visual impact is what they lack as far as interiors go. But at least they don't prop a tablet up atop the dash like some afterthought ;-)
I've had Audi's, and BMW prior to my current xf portfolio, My father in law drives a 16 plate e class. This myth that German cars are the panecea of build quality and reliability is an utter myth. I had an awful experience with my Audi. Saying that, there's not bad car in this class. The e class is v comfortable Inna straight line but handles like an oil tanker on the Twisties. The BMW drives well but you have to pay for every conceivable extra. The Audi was boring and unreliable. My current Jag touch wood has not had a single problem yet in 4 years. Its a 4 door luxury car that's comfortable and drives like a sports car. It all comes down to personal choice and what you want from a car 👍

Sweet popped collar my bro
Wait, there is a Sportback coming?! Don't u mean the Sportbreak estate?
Timmy Picton good spot. Yes it's the Sportbrake that's coming soon and not the Jaguar-Audi sportback.
My 16 plate portofolio 2.0d got rev camera its better than other sedans view aswell

jack Stansfield great comments and insights. Thanks. Happy motoring
Just brimmed the tank. Actual comsuption including 95miles of local trips plus the 350 motorway run was 51mpg. Happy with that.

Thanks Jamie. Very much looking forward to the Sportbrake.

I can also tell you that the interior in my XF is solid with no vibration or squeak's. Don't know where you found that 🐕 dog of a XG
Brian Keith Null - supplied by the Jaguar Land Rover press office. Delighted yours is going well.
I have the same model but 2018, its not as bad as the video. But definitely it has some squeaks and clicky noise on speed pumbs.
That diesel rattle at 6:49!
You need to cease playing about with the 2.0l and get into the most powerful 3.0d V6 😀
Marcus Skyfall that’s a great engine but we try and review a variety of engines where we can
Another great review.
I'm looking to purchase an M240i in April next year - could you try and do a review of it please.
Hi Paul Lovesey. Many thanks. We're talking with BMW at the moment on what's available to do next so will definitely throw it into the mix.
Thanks for the honest review
Its the styling is a little bland and the inside is disappointing thought it might have been closer to a 7
Across 15 scoring sections, it averaged 84%, so gets a solid 8 out of 10.
Great honest review as usual shocked to think you still awarded it an 8 out of 10

its cos you're driving a shitty diesel.

poked the dash trim and it moved like it's 20 years old shitbox.. Like rly jaguar??
Interior materials looks very tacky and bland. Rotating vents are a novelty for about a day
