One of the greatest shoes ever made, I'm still partial to the aesthetics of the 990v4 but this is just another fantastic update to the line and is always a staple of my sneaker rotation.

New Balance has been going absolutely insane! They know exactly what they're going for and some of the shoes are some of the nicest shoes I've ever seen, and resell for thousands, which is insane considering very little shoes even come close

Was torn between getting these and another pair of Yeezy 500s and I am so happy I went with the 990s. Honestly one of the most comfortable all day shoes that I own and iconic silhouettes out there. Quickly became my go to every day shoe I don’t have to worry about keeping pristine since I know I’ll always be there.

Love this sneaker. Bought my first pair in January, "the blue crab" . Fell in love with them. I then got them in Navy and triolor greyscale.
Good review and associated comments. Very helpful. A few years ago I bought New Balance shoes but was not happy with the quality. Problem was that they did not last very long and I was buying top of the line too. Sounds like the 990 V 5 is leading the charge towards better days. Good to see they are being made in the good old U.S.A. :). I am in the market for a new pair of shoes so I will see out a pair of these 990's today.
To me where the 990 stands out is when you’re on your feet all day. The first few hours, maybe you want Ultra Boosts or something. But by the end of a long day on your feet, there’s nothing better than these. I have a few pairs, they’re my go-to everyday sneaker.
Love wearing them every time I'm out, and after work even if I'm just driving home! Just copped another pair in triple black and I got both at around 60% off.
Also copped the 997 & 997S. Now they're on another level of comfort and I wear one indoors only. They're amazing for my feet after a hard day's work! I rate the Made in USA very high on the comfort zone as they're the most comfortable sneakers I've ever worn.
@It’s ya boy Not with NB Made in USA collections. I have a 990v5 Sz10US which runs about half size up compared to my Sz10US Nike/Jordan. The 997 also runs a bit longer by almost half a centimeter. But the Levi's 1300 feels like it runs about almost a whole size up and very wide on the toe box. I consider my feet about standard in width, definitely not narrow and not overly wide either. Hope that helps bro.

Love the presentation man and also I brought a pair myself the grey 990! This shoe is the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever had in my life. It’s ironic how their sizes go for actual size of your foot I’m a wide foot didn’t know. Even when I would wear Jordan’s I never got the comfort everrrrr since I made the purchase back in March this has been my go to it’s perfect for any occasion even a wedding lbs but I will be getting every colorway also the reflective make this shoe even more gorgeous!

Most of my sneakers are New balance and Asics which imo people sleep on the most unless they make a collaboration with a other brand
NB’s have always been cool where I’m from. They were the first $100 sneaker, and all the dope boys and people with money wore them, and the fact that they’re made in the USA is a bonus. Kanye hired NB’s top designer, so the people who wear Yeezy’s (500’s and 700’s in particular) and hate on NB’s are trippin. IMO

found a pair of these today at the NB factory outlet in Lawrence MA (where they are made) They are navy blue w/navy laces. Looks sharp! they are seconds ,but no one can tell. NB sells them for $100

NB make such high quality shoes I never regret picking up another pair. Seriously the quality is SO MUCH better than Adidas/Nike it's crazy. And it's so nice to be able to buy something nowadays that supports American industry.

@@robertc6293 The brand is, sure, but none of their shoes are made in America. NB shoes (when labeled as such) are designed and made in the USA and Great Britain, rather than by children in sweatshops in Asia.
I ordered custom custom color, hand sewn, USA made New Balance 993's in October. VERY supportive and VERY soft. They feel like they are broken in the FIRST MINUTE you wear them. You also get to custom color design them so no one else will have the same exact shoe. Even though they are $200, once you own a pair? You'll NEVER wear anything other than N1's (about 8 styles available)

I wonder if they used Horween leather for the suede panels. Size-wise NB “made”s usually run long, half-size down is a safe bet. Even at regular width, the toebox is spacious.

The only thing I really never liked about the 990v5 is the somewhat cheap feeling shoelaces - which is the opposite of every other part of the shoe. The material and assembly quality is in keeping with designer name sneakers going for $300+, and it has true all day comfort. It doesn't wow you like an ultraboost the second you put it on, but it is the type of comfort that you feel after 15 hours on your feet. It really lasts and never tires your feet. A great sneaker that because of the huge amount of width options can feel like its custom made even if you have very wide/narrow feet.

New balance is definitely a slept on brand. Affordable and comfortable with high quality material.

I have the Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons Man's version of the 990v5. For the collab, I don't see much differences except for the coloring. Like you said, NB should have/could have done more. But oh my gosh, what an awesome pair of sneakers. I LOVE it.
I've been a new balance guy since I was like 12 (16 years ago). Glad they're finally starting to make good shoes again; the pair of 410v5s I bought in the beginning of 2018 really disappointed me (shitty stitching that unwound 2 weeks after bought, shitty inner soles that had no padding at all), but I recently got the 669v2 in late 2019 and so many problems were solved.. Currently getting the 1201v1 cuz they happened to be on sale when I was looking for $69 and I'm hyped to get some actual leather made shoes; 990v5s are just way to expensive for me (I can't fathom spending $175 on shoes), otherwise I'd be tempted to grab a pair because they are smexy.

Air max 97 suede bullet that’s coming out has a similar colour block and I believe it’s really versatile and great. Watch out for that one.

The 990 Series is basically the Jeep/ Coca-cola of shoes. Very likable, predictability of product, and legendary in terms of following. I've been wearing the the 990 series since the early 90's and I'll never be without a pair. I do a lot of walking (not so much running anymore) and I can easily get a year out of a pair wearing them for about 5 miles per day at work and at home. It's a shoe that I'd be lost without. Living in Maine where we have long nights from October through March, I appreciate the reflectivity of these shoes as well. I really do. Really exceptional quality. After I retire them, I cut the tongues out of them and wear them as "slippers" around the yard. And they keep going in slipper form for another year or two of hard use. They are truly beasts and well-built. Thank you for the review. Retiring my 993's next week and just ordered a pair of 990 V5's.
