Is techwear a material or a style? Because one would think you'd need to start the history of it with Cargo pants in the early 20th century rather than Goretex in the late 20th century. Cargo pants and Tactical pants cover the "technical" aspect in Techwear, and it's pretty obvious that's where its style and functionality comes from.
I saw a 70 ish year old lady covered completly with a full impermeable suit and goggles and the colors were very steampunk. xD I think techwear cant and wont be mainstream. its just a reality that will eventually become commun when the weather and conditions get crazier and crazier all around earth. despite our desires towars or agains it
You bring up great points! Common traits of techwear clothing, like ease of function and weatherproofing, aren't inherently "techwear". I think that we'll see a lot more integration of techwear aspects into everyday clothing and non-techwear genres. Thanks for your comment and your support!
Ain't that a good thing the techwear wont be mainstream. I always viewed as this underground fashion statement akin to the Modern Goth or Baroque Clothings. I think its nice to have a different group of people with different sense of style, so long that they wont start fights against each other.
I think fashion and streetwear in general have really seen an explosion of popularity during the pandemic. Ironically when people can't go out they start to think about what to wear 🤣
Techwear as functional clothing is phenomenal. The good brands tend to be a little behind the times when it comes to advances in the industry but they're very function/purpose driven. Techwear as a fashion is a joke that the fans don't seem to be in on.
Incredible video! This was the best introduction that it was given to me about what is "TECHWEAR", I'm really glad and I will explore this new style of clothing even further! Thanks !!!
Nice, short and simple explanation for the definition of techwear man. Been following this sense of style for 5 years now and it's really a journey itself, nowadays the definition of techwear is faded into overly strapy ninja like taobao aesthetic that inspires from techwear itself. I do hope that techwear do rise again but with more affordability to what u buy from the piece.
Thats literally how trends start and die. In the end its up to the people to be more wise about choices in pieces. Its not dead, its just saturated. Literally fashion has always had these things happen. People come and go with trends. "Techwear" is a lifestyle...or it was supposed to be. If people say its "dying" they are just trend-chasers. Same people who would wear a banana suit if it was "trending"
I think I've been unknowingly doing this for years now, I like stuff that's functional and comfortable even though I probably look like a utilitarian mess.

Techwear was pretty well defined before cheap techwear brands came along and blurred the lines by refering to themselves as techwear. In my opinion the original side of techwear is a fashion style and the newer "techwear" is more akin to cosplay in most cases, which is fine if that's what you like but I just wish they'd refer to themselves as warcore or darkwear instead of techwear so the techwear subs and hashtags aren't flooded with edgy cosplay from aliexpress, saturated with straps and japanese writing. Tangent aside, really great video, keep it up and the subs will come.
Great points! The current public perception of techwear is really just pseudo-cosplay (or even just full on cosplay) at this point. Thanks for the support!
@@Deviation Sadly because the ones who do the cosplaycore fits are the loudest in the #techwear. The people who are into techwear don't really post often so they dont get as much exposure. The misinformed side of "techwear" is dumbing down its true definition.
My take on "techwear" is striking good balance between function and form. Examples of functions are water & wind resistence, breathability, packability, carryability (I made this word up), quick dryness, mobility, etc. Of course form is about looking cool! On such scale, I find ACRONYM, Veilance, SISP and Nikelab ACG (suprise surprise all of these have Errolson's involved) are/were doing a great job. Sadly, they do cost A LOT, but think about the crazy processes behind - R&D, pattern making, etc., the products do worth the price tags. Same as other expensive hobbies, "techwear" is probably one of them. Given the price tag and the niche interest, I don't think it will "be dead", but also won't go real mainstream. I do find it's a good thing!
After watching the video I was floored to find out how small your channel is, if you keep up with this quality of content I’m sure your channel will grow exponentially. If you want the advice of someone who’s wholly unqualified to give advice, I think you should try to incorporate a bit more humor and or more casual parts into the video so it’s less like a spoken essay with pictures. While the essay format is reliable, and is the most efficient way to get across information, it’s not always the most entertaining way to get across information. But as long as a video essay is the backbone of your content, yet subtly it will work fantastically. Cant wait to see you grow!
I recently came across this style and I am both super nervous and excited to try it out. My husband isn’t completely down with it but will stick by me no matter what. So I’m probably going to start pretty tame. But I can’t wait!

Ain't NOBODY gonna pay 100 plus for some cargo pants. Its an insult to utilitarianism. The whole purpose of it is that you pay for what works and that's that.
Let me know when you find quality hiking gear for less than 100. Especially when you want something that lasts a while. That aside though, you can find even quality pieces for less than 100 on sale and or used sometimes.
If it's a style that's going to be around for a while then it has to even out. The cheap brands have to grow into quality brands, and the already quality expensive brands need to have more accessible options if they don't already. They'll also need to tone down the flash and turn up the function. I think it'll be the people who figure out how to fuse a classic aesthetic and function. It looks too much like a style instead rather than someone's look. Meaning most people won't mature into it they'll just go a different way. If they do stick with it, chances are they'll figure out how to tone it down. With what I see now, it just looks like a pain in the ass to put together and even more so to pull off. If people actually use all the pockets they have how often do they pause to remember or dig through which pocket/compartment has whatever they're looking for? It also seems like a style that's trying to reinvent what already works, a simple bag. Obviously this is all some random dude's opinion. It's not a style or clothing pieces I'd go for. When an outfit comes with a learning curve I've done too much. It also does the exact opposite of what my style does, which is grab attention. And it holds it. It's such a unique style too, that everyone that rocks it, looks the same. To me it's in such a trend phase it comes off as a try hard style, and I don't mean for that to sound shitty. I look at a simple trucker jacket and wonder what techwear has over that. Again it falls back into trying hard and reinvent what already is simple, clean, and works with nothing extra. It's the lack of all the extra that makes it look good. Makes anything look good. Maybe techwear has reached its level of mainstream and this feeling of it dying is a result. Once a certain threshold of people and lesser but numerous brands have come to it, it's over. The original wearers can smell the money grab.
I like this vid. I used to know this girls who would say, "pesto is a concept." Then she would mix whatever she wanted into pesto and call it pesto. Techwear is a concept...
I will bet money that because of lockdown people are going to start wearing this stuff and everyone is going to look like the npcs out of cyber punk 2077 lol
techwear makes Tripp NYC pants seem affordable, fucking seriously I'll pay 100 for high quality cargo pants that even the women's can fit a 2 liter in the pockets of over a jacket that costs well over double that has a built in fanny pack and just adds more pockets without fixing a major issue with most pants in general of very limited pocket size
I love the utility of techwear and it doesn't have to be expensive or too flashy but i enjoy the flashy stuff too lol, to me it is inconsequential if techwear goes mainstream because im wearing it for the utility it provides not for impressing anyone.
Techwear is like sushi: There are a ton of ways to fuck it up but you can't go wrong with the basics. Also if you're concerned with "death of techwear" it wasn't ever your style to begin with. I don't care about trends. Same reason why that Supreme shit was not appealing to me. I think the problem is with the word "techwear". If were talking about that specifically, yes, the hype ruined it with all the wannabes on Instagram and clout chasers. "Techwear" I think is not dying but becoming more of a confining term for the style since it is in fact evolving. To be honest I'm glad its "dying" since the entire community are gate-keeper elitists. At the end of the day, you're only considered "into techwear" if you have an ACRONYM wardrobe which is funny because all that really is, is high-end fashion. I'm guilty of this too so no hate. The essence of techwear isn't one thing...and its not easily attainable...yet, not hard to accomplish. Its like sushi.
Techwear may look fashionable, but the overpriced nature of the clothing is the exact opposite of the cyberpunk spirit of 'high tech, low life'. It's ironic that in real life, techwear is reserved for the corpo villains of the real world
