WOW! You've been doing this for years. Your beats are dope too! I remember watching one of your 2010 videos years ago back when you were on the MPC2500. You had the big "2010" sunglasses on. Hahaha. I also have an MPC2500 and a MPC X. I bought my first MPC in late 2004 (red and blue MPC1000) and my first "flagship" MPC (the MPC4000) a few months later around February of 2005. I still have my MPC4000 as well (I'm NEVER getting rid of that one). I no longer have a MPC1000, but I replaced it with an MPC One and more recently replaced the MPC One with the MPC Key-37, which I think is the best portable take anywhere MPC for my needs (because it has a keyboard built in and I like to play keys). I don't do much sampling. So yeah, I use keyboards and synthesizers a lot in my beats.
BTW, I did try out the new MPC 3.0 software on my MPC Key-37. While I do like some of the new features Akai added, there are still some bugs that need to be fixed, and there are a few things I like in 2.0 that were removed. The main one is being able to load a bunch of programs and select from a list of multiple programs to assign to a track. That's the way I work, too. A lot of people like the old-school MPC workflow. Why change it? But yeah, because of the major bugs that still need to be fixed and the fact I have a lot of older projects from 2.0, I downgraded back to 2.15 and I will stick with that for a while until 3.0 is stable enough and Akai decides to bring back the major features they omitted. I know they're going to bring back track mutes, which is great. I hope one day, they decide to bring back multiple programs, too, and have program/track assignments work the same way they do in 2.15. To be honest, that's the main thing that's a deal breaker for me. I like to load multiple programs at once and freely pick and choose any one of them to use in whatever track in whatever sequence I want. This is how I come up with ideas, too, because certain drumkits or sounds can spark new creative ideas. Then, I can work quickly while building a track.
Oh yeah. You wanna know what 's absolutely great about 2.0? I took the first beats I ever made on the red and blue MPC1000 from 2004 when I first got it and, to my amazement, I was recently able to load them them up in my MPC Key-37 (programs, sequences, everything!) and with a few minor tweaks to the drum programs, they sound almost exactly the way they did back in the day on the MPC1000!!!! I'm talking about beats from 20 years ago!!! They still load and play on these new machines!!!

Great video! A lot of people was looking for this new upgrade, but what kills me is that they don't even know how to work their machine and yet you want to upgrade to a new software. So when you show that man your different programs he didn't even know what you were talking about cuz he does know how to work. His machine hell. I don't even know how to work in my machine. I'm not going to change to the new software until I can get a full understanding of what I'm doing everyday is a learning experience with the mpcx. Once again, great video! Learn how to work your machines before you upgrade to the newest software

I agree that the software is horrible compared to an actual DAW / whereas the MPC in standalone has pretty much everything needed to have a portable DAW.
I have always thought it’d be great if they gave us an option to run it in a simple/classic mode - where the UI would be much closer to the MPC1000 with or without JJOS or MPC4000 or even 60/3000 OS style with some obvious improvements (mute groups, fx, resample, audio tracks, variable sample rate)
I put 3.0 on my beloved MPC Live and immediately couldn’t work how I have gotten used to using the machine so I reverted the OS and now it seems the firmware is glitching now.
All in all I fully concur with everything you say in this vid

NEVER MAKE HEAT IN A BETA!!! It's in extremely early stages of beta testing. Shit is bound to be messed up. I am actually feeling it although I won't actually use it until it is released in it's final form with all the bugs worked out. It's definitely going to be dope. Does not seem like they are trying to make it a daw to me just more streamlined. Being able to access program edit by just touching the sample from the main screen is so nice, grid arranger is cool also. The arrangement view is also good for after you build your beat out in song mode and convert to a sequence. I cant see building and entire track out in arrangement view shit would be mad tideous. Having programs designated to their own tracks makes why more since IMHO also having multiple beats in one project is just messy and unorganized. 1 project 1 beat 1 name super simple. Also you won't have to wait so long for your projects to load(I was like god damn my boy)... more time to bang out beats!

I have no arguments with those who want the arranger.
My beef is they broke how track mutes work in Song mode. Don't take from others to give to someone else. Don't break my workflow and projects in progress to give someone something new. Leave the original functionality intact.

I have mixed feelings. I installed the beta and I love the arranger, the new interface, mixer… but opening old projects from MPC2 or MPC1000 is being a pain. From 6 or 7 tracks, it now creates over 30 different tracks (most of them MIDI) and it takes ages to rearrange everything. I could not find the way to delete a sequence (it’s probably there but I cannot find it). Creating song arrangements from scratch with new version is a pleasure though. So for now I’ll be downgrading until official version is released and then I will think about it.

You’re dead right on the processing power which is the reason I use the software with the mpc. I’m sample crazy and intricate and just the mpc alone will not do it for me. Me I’m not touching the mpc 3 until they come out with software for it and all the bugs are worked out. Your beats are dope fam! You definitely earned a subscribe and a like from me! 🫡🦾

I did a live set a few weeks ago. Didn't have time to fw the new workflow so I used 2.1. I ran into crash issues/stuttering/glitching. this was because I had so many samples in one project and the cpu couldn't handle all these hot ass fire ass beats. 3.0 has disk streaming so that is the major perk of 3.0 to me.
I worry if Akai made a new machine it would have all the same incompatibility issues and maybe even more. I guess good for them for trying to do the most with whats going on instead of making everyone shell out another 1000 bucks.

Makes sense, it's a *beta* version of the software. It probably shouldn't have been released to the general public, but releasing early software to the general public has become the norm.
It probably should have been a closed beta instead of a public beta. Making it a public beta only opened Akai to a lot of criticism, as many consumers don't truly understand that by installing the beta software, they are in effect agreeing to be beta *testers* for software that *isn't developed enough to be released for sale,* hence the software being offered for free.
When this is done in the computer world, it is advised not to install such software on one's primary computer, but rather a backup or spare computer. The same logic would apply here, but I'm not sure that the average MPC user has a spare machine to use just for testing purposes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He does several sequences to make a beat and puts it in song mode. Then he explodes his tracks and takes them to his DAW. Now with 3.0 he’s using the arranger with one sequence to make a whole beat in song format.

I’m having a hard time understanding what it is you have a problem with, the way things are categorized? I still can load up key groups, drum sets, plugins, I’m having a hard time understanding why you don’t like them changing the way it’s presented? Honestly it’s starting to sound like you should be using Renoise, it has what you’re looking for and in a better way, too. It seems like MPC 2 is still going to be compatible with the plugins and key groups and anything you would want it to be compatible with for a long time, so if you don’t like v3 there’s no reason for you to upgrade, keep it the way you like it homie🎉

Great points. I agree with you completely. The current MPC is already pushing its technical limits. If you want to add more functionality… stems, an arranger, etc. It only makes sense to build a new unit that has more processing speed and storage. I was never able to get one of the classic MPCs. But I believe the MPC X and MPC Live 2 was a nice step from the golden era to now. I don’t want to create in a DAW it just doesn’t flow for me. So I definitely don’t want my MPC to become a DAW. 3.0 changes would have been better done to the MPC desktop software.

Supreme, The Programs are the same as the Drum Tracks. You can do the SAME thing with the Drum Tracks, save them separately and load them into any project. I keep all my drums on one Track/Program/Kit. Or I can use multiple if I want. Hey you can even save separate Track Effect set ups, and load different effect configurations to your tracks. The players change but the game is the same. 👍🏾

@@supreme7g You can still load up to 128 programs per project. You can even load the same program 128 times, but each one will independent. You can still make 5 beats from the same program. you can load a main program that you'll use to make your edits & create dummy drum track record your seq/riff data & use MIDI Send to send all the dummy tracks back to main drum track/program that you can use to edit all the pads in one place. You can also create a track for only the pad(s) that will be use on each tracks - this wouldn't be the way I go, but it's an option.
I started with the MPC1k in 2005 & traded for a 2500 in 2008, got the RS7000 in 2014 after I realized a different clip-based sequencer would be better for me but I've been using the Force in 2021, so most of the new 3.0 stuff is old news to me & other Force dudes I've had way more time to get used to these "new" changes. Maybe I missed something or maybe you just didn't spent enough time with 3.0 or whatever, but everything you was complaining about can be done 3.0, It just done in different.
Them keeping the ability to use both OS is smart as hell. It allows them to give the same customers the option to pick their own beat making journey, without selling & or buying a new model. arranger is cool for after you made you long seq & want to edit it , while see all tracks at once to add automations & other final song edits. What really suck to me about MPC3 is that it doesn't have the force clips, matrix & navigation view. I think it's too early to judge MPC3 since it's just a beta, which is the first time Akai has ever did this which maybe why some people don't realize that & are making premature decisions.

The issue he's referring to is not about learning anything new. The video he referenced goes into more detail, but the issue being addressed processing power and (more importantly) ram. The average middle of the road smartphone nowadays has 8-12 gigs of ram. That being said, akai, is squeezing a lot of functionality out of the hardware that they're working with. They're putting a lot of time and effort into optimizing their software, which in turn shows a lot of dedication to their end users.
