Yessir! Bout Damn time 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the new studio setup my brother. I know you probably got studio B probably finished by now. SALUTE King 💯! Travel Light!
BoooLooo
I ain't never envied somebody's tag like I do bolo's 😂😂
How's that Maschine Plus working out fo ya,Bg Bolo?😄Akai is like the Pro Tools of Pad Sampling. They just add software plug-ins from third parties and haven't really added any meaningful updates to their software in decades. the MPC X has been out since 2015. It is literally the only production hardware--including hardware synth and keyboards like ya Roland--that does not have a linear arranger. Akai still thinks its 93 and people are chopping samples and recording on an ADAT.Once Machine get warping right,MPC gonna be like the Sony Walkman--a relic.
I got my MPC One back in march and haven't looked back after using DAW's for the last 20 years. I love it!!!!
It’s like having a daw that does a lot less. Like a 1/4 of a daw.
@@PhantomStrange do you have an MPC?
lol yes I do have the force , Mpc standalone, maschine ,mpc 61 , mpc 37 mpc Renaissance
Flkeys 61 along with Fl studio love make music for Yeshua
Sometimes less is More, especially when it comes to Creativity
I have a MPC X SE and it revolutionized my sound. The MPCs are excellent for loops and chops
And more
Limitations help make it easier to not overthink the creation process.
facts.
Absolutely 💯
Option paralysis is real
I Need limitations
Yaaaaass!! This right here. As a sound engineer, producer, and artist I cannot advise your words enough 🙌
Try using it in controller mode with the mpc software.
That way ypu can use whatever vst synth you like in the mpc workflow
I just my MPC x to work in Controller Mode upgraded to Sonoma on my Mac it says looking for Computer so I went in my account and it said so no did not compatible so now I’m gonna download back the Catalina or at least what it came with when I bought it
Both modes work great.
I use it standalone with my synths and I can turn knobs and record the automation. This is definitely not for those who want to load presets and bang out loops, copy and paste. Lots of hours in it just to get moving.
JAE IS THE GOAT.
That last sample chop you did was dope!
Producers used MPC’s to make beats heavily since the late 80’s. MPC was over a decade old in the early 2000’s
No they didn't start using the MPC until the 90's you must be thingking about EMU's SP-12. SP1200....
@@relish8315 MPC 60 was released in 1988. Not the 90’s… hip hop was born in the late 1980’s, not the 90’s.
@@RGLion2 I meant they weren't using it heavily like you said they were. MPC was 2nd or 3rd to EMU-SP12, SP1200 back then.
Linn drum
@@RGLion2hip-Hop was actually born in ‘73. Look up DJ KOOL HERC
Welcome to the MPC fraternity. It works great in conjunction with Logic. Build your beat and arrange it in the MPC. Use the individual outputs to send the sounds and arrangement to Logic, and then finish the mix and master in Logic. Just don't go fall into the vintage MPC trap lol
True
100 I had the 2000 xl years back it was ok but the live 2 is the GOAT for me. So much faster to do things in and so expansive with what you can run on it.
@@actn376 I'm just warning Ocean about the vintage ones as the sound and the swing of the vintage ones are different gravy. What he don't know won't hurt him. If he's happy with a Live II don't mess with a XL or a 3000 with eight individual outputs. If you know you know. If not then just be happy and enjoy
fraternity bruh what 🤢
Honestly if you set the ppqn to 96 instead of the 960 it comes set on them it will sound much more like the old ones.. I was actually surprised how much this setting matters.. all the old mpc's are 96..
I have a live 2 retro, SE, and a 3000 and when they are set to 96 I can't really tell much difference other then a tiny bit in the sound, which I actually prefer the SE, I think it sounds the best and even a little bit more open then the live.. it has different converters but thru both are top shelf, just akai went with a different one for the SE. They all are amazing though and it is splitting hairs really.
amazing how things come full circle I'm happy to be an 80's baby
Learning a new device is always a challenge. When I got my Live 2 it took me about a year to realise how powerful this thing really is. The DAW vs MPC experience is different and both have their strengths and weaknesses. At the time of writing this I’m equally pro DAW as I am MPC (standalone). It’s all about what you want to accomplish and how you want to go about it. If I had to moan about the MPC… yes, at times you may come across some bugs. The other niggle is with the Live 2’s q-link knob limitation, a full 16 knob layout would’ve been appreciated. Otherwise, a fairly good machine capable of great results. Enjoyed the video, reminds me of when I first got started.
Use the daw to make wicked samples
Welcome to the darkside! We've been waiting for you. 😂😂😂
He's Stuck in the "Gang" Now. No turning Back!!!! LOL
LOL 😂
This was kinda wholesome to watch. You guys working together all concentrated and ready to learn and having fun. Love it. I love my MPC and use it together with my DAW like an instrument and to come up with ideas fast.
Glad to see you made the switch Ocean! Even if its just to try it out.. I think I speak for everyone in here who owns an MPC of ANY kind (or a Roland MV-8000 or 8800 for my Roland heads in here) when I say -- there is NOTHING like hands-on production using a stand alone box thats not tied into a computer!! You're gonna fall in love with it by the time you make your 2nd beat.. I promise you! I use an MPC 2500 by the way...
I am currently getting back into oldschool beat making after years of electronic music production, and I will get my first MPC soon. Childhood dreams coming true :)
You don’t need to look at the screen, look at the pads, they are also lit up showing you what pads are in key with your chosen scale.
After a while, you will barely use the screen as you will build the muscle memory and know where everything is and the short cuts.
I like the fact you're an intuitive producer. Very relatable 👏🏿
J Dilla will change your mind about the "limitations"
He did his drums without quantize on, it’s not really as ground breaking as people try to make it out to be
@@Jesotericbrain dead take. You think it’s not game changing now. It definitely was in the 90s.
@@Jesoteric It was way more than just 'without quantize', some things were quantized, other not, different things could have different swing, early snares and all sorts of other goove tricks....
@@JesotericWrong. He did not just simply turn off quantize on his drums.
I pushed my mpc crazy as a test … i now know it’s limitations…. It’s pretty damn magic
Welcome, we've been waiting on you. 😁
Yes welcome. Current owner of the MPC One. Not the one plus. Love it. (Do not plan on upgrading) Previously used MV8800 & MC808 and Ill say it was a learning curve going from one eco system to another but now I really haven't looked back.
Roland?!
3:15 He said it was off time using an MPC
No Quantize my guy
Gotta let natural rhythm flow
Lol I noticed bro took the plastic off the screen...Ive had mine for 3 years now and still haven't removed the plastic 🤣🤦🏾♂
Yeah, we don't do that! 😂
Deflowered the MPC 😮
I did it to the X. The screen doesnt scratch so easily, but man does it on the sides in the knob areas and q-link screens.
Live II just don't be throwing it in a regular bag. You'll be mad as hell watching scratches and scuffs while you make a beat.
They need to have tempered glass lol.
My boy Jae Free !!!
facts!
Use what works for you or brings you joy. I am using the Key61, Live II, and One. Not everything is for everyone.
bro these chops you did at your home studio were fucking ridiculous, really inspiring video and i love to see u on the mpc
@15:10 It's far from limited. A lot of classics have been made on the MPC platform. It comes to being accustomed to using the hardware and tricks of the trade.
once you learn the MPC completely ,its a beautiful thing,im still learning
You're like 7 years late bro! Welcome to the Family! I've owned my MPC X since late 2017. I still use it all the time and it's always fun!
Excellent collaboration.
Just got an mpc one+. Yeah it’s more limited but makes the process so much funner and more satisfying than a DAW. Also Jae freshman is a 🐐 his channel came in clutch for me learning the mpc.
It’s about creating on the fly I feel with computers it’s like a lot of time loading and preparing
My first MPC was the MPC X!!! I havent looked back since lol I'm thinking about getting the MPC Live II just for the portability and to make beats on the move.
I think the first beat was better. You learnt quickly how to use it the first time I ever used an MPC was at University someone in my class had it on the campus in their room and they was showing me how to use it it is a bit fiddly but yeah its fun to use the last time I used one was on a music course chopping up a track which I sampled and made a track in reason the music program
Bro I got the first MPC live back in 2017 and it’s been a beautiful but worth it investment!!!!
the Jae Freshman collab was dope!!!
Answer is: they aren't.
real
I did and it was the best decision in my beat making life😊
@@boomboombaby9140took the words right out my mouth! 🤣
There's room for a beat making station with any traditional DAW setup.
@@StatetrooperBillyBill nonsense. You know what midi devices are?
MPC Live was one of the best investment I have ever made ❤
Fye ocean 🌊 🌊
Jae seems like a super nice guy
Been on the MPC since 92 and still on it 2024!!!! Especially with other midi keyboards and drum machine!!!
LINK EVERYTHING TOGETHER WITH LOGIC
Good choice ocean I got my MPC in December ain't touched NFL since I had it and you got Jay freshman
You can extend a chops tail length a few ways. Program edit, Sample Screen, play with Tail Length and Tail Start. Another option...Warp that specific chop and play with the BPM or Stretch percentage
Techs at work👍🏾
You got the Freshman on board. 🤴🏾
I switched from FL to MPC Keys 37 ❤ it was the best decision of my life. I spend time 8 hrs per day on work with Computer. Its to much to make Beats on Computer too…
You could use third party plugins on it too but only in controller mode
Honeslty I did a lot of research when I was buying my sampler. It came down to the mpc vs the machine plus. The reason the mpc won was in particular because of the live 2. It's not like any other mpc. All other mpcs required being tethered to the sound system. This mpc can act as a field recorder for sampling. You could sample sounds from the world then cut them up right on the spot if you wanted. That kind of capability isn't average for samplers. The op1 and op1 field can kind of do that but nothing close to the mpc, the op1 is a childs toy in my opinion vs the live 2. Which I would call the live 2 a true studio in a box. You can create an entire song just from the live 2, complete with mastering and effects.
My boi jay freshman in the video 🎉
That beat in the end tho. Samples were so nice✨
When has you seen Ocean smile, its a vibe 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
J Dilla's influence bleeding into the new generation I love to see it
Like someone else said, wait till you dig into the MPC software. I tend to start tracks where ever I am in the house, and finish them in controller mode with the DAW.
Jae Freshman is the best!
Stand alone grooveboxes are by design more limited compared to DAWS, both in workflow and in features, as you have to work with a limited amount of hardware controls and screen estate. In return it will give you a more tactile experience where you don't have to stare at a computer screen. And if you become good enough on the MPC it basically becomes an instrument.
MPC is the most fun I’ve had writing music. Inspiring every time.
I started in 2006 with a mpc I kept my 3000 hits the best out of them all but I haven't used it since 2015 I been on analog gear and fl
Beatmaker 3 on IPad with a midi controller ftw 🙌 portable and does everything
The mpc is amazing bro
That beat fire bro Jae you the man bro bro keep doin tutorials so I can learn with you bro
A HOT TIP! If you are new to the latest MPC range. I highly recommend you buy the “mpc bible” which is a e-book that has in depth tutorials and walkthroughs, otherwise the mpc might frustrate you with the workflow but will make sense once you understand the concepts.
It's not about the equipment.... It is about your ears. How many times do I have tell this to people lol
Its is a tool like a hammer some people know how to use it well and some dont
That 3rd beat is amazing... the best out of the lot 🔥🔥🔥
U can use third party vst in mpc software👍🏾
Chopping and adding character is unmatched on the mpc. But arrangement is still really a daws job. You can do it on the mpc via song mode but its convoluted at times. Adding variety/automation and transitional sections can be a tedious process.
I prefer using daw when composing to video. I brought a Maschine + over a yr ago and MPC Key 61, a few months ago and haven’t used them yet, just been sitting on my desk . Maybe later this week I’ll turn it on and learn how to work them.
welcome in the mpc gang brother there is no a way out
You can snap to grill use nudge. Use contoller mode!
Welcome to the "MPC Gang".
I'm not a Major Producer or Artist , but I opted out for a MC707 bcus everyone has a MPC.
I can def say that making music on the MPC is a lot more fun than using a mouse
Dope collab
The reason I like Maschine too. Great video.
🎉🎉🎉it's fire love u ocean
@Ocean you can use the MPC in Controller Mode. That way you can integrate it with Logic. You can also use VSTs in that mode. Check out the MPC Bible... It will get you up to speed real quick.
After learning the mpc2500 that was it for me love the limitations.
They aren’t switching
Top producers have them
It’s all the same ish
It’s the producer and the fact a video like this was even made speaks volumes of your production experience or lack there of
try making the drums one at a time instead of finger drumming also you can use logic and mpc together, mostly using the mpc to create dope drum patterns and hats variations quicker than a daw would and for sounds you can use to daw to sculpt your sounds and get those dope plugin sounds that Mpc don't have.
Next time title is properly
*I switched to a MPC*
Welcome to the team
That second sample went so hard
I like to use them with MIDI key controllers and I can play anything.
I’ve been an MPC USERS for decades!!
Trust me , There’s nothing like an MPC !!
"This morning i watched a ton of tutorials", i know where you're coming from 😂
I got my MPC2000 about 24 years ago, it has everything but the FX card
Controller mode is the way to go then you can integrate Arcade and Omnisphere……❤❤❤
That last one was one was definitely a lupe Fiasco type beat i was excited then you stopped lol 😆
It’s fun, has no latency, but it’s workflow can be pretty cumbersome. It’s just not easy to make things that transition...it locks you into these 4 m even loops. Daws are just infinitely better at arranging. But for playing finger drums, nothing beats this because it has zero latency
That beat you made with that guy was hot. It sounded like something platinum that Kanye would have made.
Everyone thinks man if I just get that MPC my beats will sound so much better. Not true. I was one of those people. After teaching myself Fruity Loops since the early 2000s and perfecting it I couldn’t wait to get my MPC One. Finally get it and was hugely disappointed. Fruity Loops with Serato Sample is much more versatile. Honestly now. I make all my beats at least start them all out on my phone on Koala sampler and it can all types of things the MPC can do and even more. It doesn’t matter what you use as long as you’re making music and enjoying it.
No way, I think i have to get me one…. Looks fun as fuk, stopped using one basic mpc years ago, the work flow on this one is crazy
That mpc connects directly into Ableton
Bro that’s my go to guy Jae the man bro thats how I be with MPC trying to get better 🫡💯
You should revisit with the next update incoming.
3rd beat was fire
Bro looks like Bayek from Assassin's Creed Origins...No cap !
Less than 60 seconds in and he went nah I need that 140
What sucks is you just getting used to the OLD workflow on the LIVE/MPC X when they just completely changed it with their newest update!
You’d probably like using the mpc plugin inside logic and use it just for drums and logic for other stuff. Even that route is kinda complicated for arranging. Best integration of these ideas plus a daw is using ableton push. Let’s you finger drum and it is integrated into the daw so you don’t have to keep going back and forth between programs or use mpc in a daw, the drum rack in ableton is just in there. I understand why Timbaland uses it. MPC makes the best finger drumming pads though. I have both and don’t even really make hip hop anymore. Sometimes feels like wasted money honestly. Check out cookin soul, he does it old school and just nails what the mpc is best at: sample chop plus drum.
Thanks for posting the video.
I say they should do an MPC that automatically integrates and connects to all the DAW's
So whatever happens in the Daw happens in the MPC also and reverse... that would be a dope ass workflow....
🔥🥀🌹🥀🔥
I have the Touch which isn't stand alone but it can be used as a plugin in Reaper.
Great tutorial !
