How to fix OBS black screen - 2 methods

- How to fix OBS studio black screen issue. OBS Black Screen Display Capture Solved (2020). OBS can only capture video from one graphics card at a time. Computers that have only one GPU are not affected by the black screen issue. However, on laptops that have both “integrated and high-performance graphics cards”, you may run into an issue where OBS simply displays a black screen when you want to record your desktop.
In this video, I’m going to explain two methods to fix this problem. But before you start, make sure your graphics drivers are updated to the most recent version.

00:36 1st method
02:28 2nd method
The first fix is for computers that currently run windows 10 version 1909 or newer. If you are not sure which version of windows you have, you can find out by pressing the “Windows and R” keys, then type “winver” and click ok.
• So, if your computer has the newer version of windows,
• Type “Graphics Settings” in the search bar and click enter.
• Make sure the “App Preference” is set to “Classic App” and click browse.
• Then go to “Local Disk C”, “Program Files”, “obs-studio”, “bin”, and finally “64bit”.
• In this folder you would find the OBS application.
• Select it by double-clicking, then click options.
• Once selected you would be presented with a new interface with the “Graphics Specifications”.
The “Power Saving GPU” is also what’s referred to as your Integrated Graphics. The “High-Performance GPU” is your dedicated graphics card. Your Windows desktop runs exclusively on the Integrated Graphics. But by default, OBS is set to run and capture images on your High-Performance GPU. To make OBS capture your desktop, select the “Power Saving” option, and click “Save”.
If that didn’t work for you, then it’s possible that your current Windows OS is older than Version 1909. In that case here is the second method to fix it.
• Right-click on your desktop and select “NVIDIA Control Panel”.
• Expand the 3D Settings menu, and click “Manage 3D Settings” then “Program Settings”.
• Chose OBS studio as the program to customize.
• Next, change the preferred graphics processor to “Integrated Graphics”.
• Click “Apply” and restart OBS.
• That should fix the problem.
It’s worth noting that this would enable OBS to only record using “Display Capture”. If you need to use the “Game Capture” setting in OBS, then you must switch back to the “High-Performance GPU” because video games are set to run by default on your dedicated graphics processor.
In order for OBS to work properly, it must be running on the same GPU as the image you wish to capture.

Absolute gentleman, that worked a treat.
I’ve been trying for 2 Hours!! I’ve legit used every method. I have no idea whats wrong!
Sometimes it could just be a simple thing. For example, under sources make sure you've actually selected display capture. If you have multiple capture sources, try deleting all and select only display capture.
You are an absolute legend gentleman thank you so much I have watched 4 videos and none made it work except this one thanks, mate.

Can u tell me how to record game
Hi bro! It didn't worked for me. I have the windows 1903, so i did the nvidia set up and obs still shows a black screen.
Any idea why? Does i have to change something on graphic settings menu for windows?
Thank you very much in advance!
On OBS are you using display capture? Or Game capture? And have you set OBS to power saving or high performance?
Go to nvidia controlpanel
Press "Desktop" top left
Enable developer settings
Open developer tab
Press "Manage GPU Performance Counters"
Press "Allow access to the GPU performance counters to all users"
Ur so underrated
It actually works
Nope, didn’t work :(
Got husband a new Xbox one x and a laptop which is a dell and a ryzen 7.
We set it to power saving and high performance. Tried capture and game something.
We get the Xbox app to launch and obs. Get the little red square to fit the screen and his layouts are there but still a black screen. Also don’t have an option to click classic app or whatever that is.
Any advice other than taking everything back for a refund since it doesn’t want to work and he can’t stream to twitch anymore (worked just fine on our crappy laptop just laggy)
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i dont understand, the only graphics driver i have is an RTX2060, no integrated graphics, yet i still get this issue, ive looked everywhere and i havent found a fix yet. Please help

@@Whaleblox homie i spent my savings on this

the 2nd methond worked
What for intel
I'm on windows 10 - 1909 but neither method did work for me. I have AMD Radeon graphic R5 M255 card. I can capture Window display, however, no matter what I do, Display Capture is black
I did all this and It wouldn't work but I clicked the icon on the desktop and ran the trouble shoot option and it fixed it.
Non of these methods worked for me... i hate my laptop
Any advice other than taking everything back for a refund since it doesn’t want to work and he can’t stream to twitch anymore (worked just fine on our crappy laptop just laggy)
To my understanding it seems you are trying to capture video from the xbox app through the new laptop. Try this. Start by running the xbox app (or what ever app you want to capture from) on the laptop. Next in OBS, go to sources, click the plus button to add a new source. Then select window capture, and click ok. It's going to show you a new pop up called "properties for window capture" At the bottom you should see three options. "Window, Capture Method, Window Match Priority". Click the "Window option". It will show a list of all the windows open on your desktop. Select the one you want to capture (in this case I guess the xbox app or window). Then click ok. Hope this helps.
@@nebaa thanks for trying to help. It didn’t work. Xbox support basically said we had to do dual monitor because the app freezes(Xbox app) when you move the mouse.
