Such a great sailing channel. You have the coolest boat, best destinations, and a fun family. I'm currently in Florida doing some small sailing trips. Working on doing a real sailing adventure someday soon.
Hello all the people at Zatara. Thank you for giving us the possibility to follow you, on your adventure. To see how the life on a sailboat works for you, and how you deal with new tasks. To see the adult and the children and young old ones together on a small boat on a big big sea/ ocean. I hope you relax now, and preparing for whats going to happen next. I wish you a beautiful Thanksgiving, and soon a Merry Merry Christmas. Best wishes from Jan in Norway
@ 14:25 LOL, keep the innuendos going Keith, they always make me laugh, I drive my wife nuts doing the same around folks. Looking forward to next Thursday.
You guys are having great quality family time. My sons are all grown up and I see what I missed. I have seen a great part of the world while in the military, and my round the world will be on a cruise ship after I retire. I do enjoy watching you all. Great family - great kids. Can't wait for next season.
I agree with you 100% about getting a cat for a boat if you can afford it. You can just see from the film footage how much you love that cat. How he is made your journeys even more delightful. Boy oh boy it would be so hard having that man walk away with him. I feel for y’all.
Another great video. Glad to see you have the cat back safe and sound. You have made your stop over bang on as our weather is only going to get hotter.
What is wrong with this picture? One person in this group knows enough to have some chance at fixing the engine problem, he finally does find the problem and fixes it, and then everybody else laughs at him. The fact that you actually fixed the problem, Keith, and that you didn’t give up is incredible. I hope when I get out there that I can do as well. Fair winds to you all.
OMG! What are we going to do without Anna's unique style of communication...............you know, sarcasm. Haha. She has a way of keeping things real! Hope I can get to your meetup in March.
you've become my favorite youtube channel. I'm an expat living in china with my chinese wife and two young girls 5 and 2. I've been here now for 10 years and our dream has been to sell a controlling interest in our brick and mortar school and step back and go fully online. well, we just found our buyer and our website is under development. we plan on getting a nordhavn 43 and learning the ropes so to speak doing alaska to mexico for a couple of years and intermittently traveling back to canada and china for business and family. since watching your show and seeing the catamaran lifestyle we've had a lot of conflicting thoughts. i'm 44 and have always been a gear head, classic cars and motorcycles. I love the idea of sailing, but my body is broken and i have constant pain issues from decades of construction supply work, and two motorcycle accidents. The nordhavn seemed like the best way to travel in the same paths you and your family have without the need to constantly worry about tight crawl spaces and lifting and heaving, and tightening and all of those things that come with jibs and sails and mains.. etc. I guess the question i'm asking is how do you think your journey and it's enjoyment would be different had you been on a trawler instead of your beautiful sailboat, and catamaran? Again, love your show and your family. It's refreshing to see a man be a man with a family that isn't all confused about roles. Cheers.
I also really like your intro music, the Q and A's are always interesting - why I'm not a sailor but ENJOY seeing the different lifestyles, the various conditions, the jack of all trades master of none, seeing the various fish, and a lot more. You have a GREAT channel and enjoy your time on land.
Love the theam song! I always wondered where it came from. My 5 year old daughter always sings it. Lol so cute! Float away! Float away! Floar away! Love you guys and gals
When our kids were still at home we took vacations in southern Utah and driving for long hours our kids would constantly ask how much longer. One hour in to an eleven hour drive. I loved sailing as a kid but now as an adult I love the fact that at the end of the day there's a nice comfy hotel room.
I liked the question as to does it feel like vacation living on your boat. For people who have never lived on a boat it is often assumed to be so. Good job answering that question Keith. Bottom line as you said it’s about a lot of work and planning. Lazy people should not live on a boat. You guys do a great job keeping up with everything. Enjoy watching this family very much. Here’s to your next adventure! Be safe.
Been watching you guys since the very very start.. was even one of the first followers on your Instagram!! I’m nearly ready for this life.. my kids are both under 2.. little bit longer and we will be ready.. greetings from the South Coast of NSW, Australia
The reason why we need to sail.. Is. It make the family spend time together.. On every single things.. I bet they will be remembered on anything... The best part is.. Communication with all.. And spend more love and attention... That what all people need.. This families is owesome... This is what we need guys..all about love..
Thanks for the great videos... always interesting, and I really enjoy the candidness of all of you. It's really great. I also like the Grabbitz theme and now it wakes me up in the mornings... I found it on Apple Music! So thanks for that and keep on sailing... :)
Thanks, Keith and family !!! Love the realism. Going to miss Anna and the others, one-by-one on this vlog, buy\t hey, my bride and I have been just 'us' for some time now and it does get to be ok and great!!
Aw man. I was just in New Zealand. Wish I saw this video earlier, I’d love to get a picture with you guys. PS I live in California, but I’m Tongan, and I’m happy you guys love to dive in our waters lol thank you for mentioning my little island :)
Enjoy your time in NZ and your vacation Zatara crew and hope you can get across the ditch to the mighty land of Oz while you're down this part of the world.
I would have to disagree with your statement claiming to not be sailors. Anyone who can take a bout around the globe or even down a coastline are doing what the definition of a sailor is...."sailing" We are taught to never over estimate ourselves but you also should never under estimate yourself. You all be sailors so wear that tag loud and proud!! :)
You might think that, Benglator, but there is a hell of a lot of knowledge to be gained in sailing, and fair play to the family for admitting they're not 'sailors'. Training can be exhaustive, skills can take years to learn and experience only comes with time. They know enough, but not enough to feel they are pro sailors.
Regarding your engine trouble I had a similar problem with my car. I couldn't even get my diagnostic computer to connect to it so after about 6 hours with the electrical manual and tracing wires I finally found the busted fuse. The next time I had a weird car problem I had it figured out in 5 minutes because I went straight to the fuse box testing each one systematically.
Hey guys! Super cool to have met you in Opua. It happens that a saw bones took a saw and a drill to that foot with the boot on it, so I’m lying here watching this great episode. Nice work! Yeah, that stinkin’ crossing was cold wasn’t it? Please give my best to my boyz, Jack & Finn 🤙🏽 Doug
I’m really sad that it might not be any more videos until your vacation is over. I love you guys and Have a wonderful thanksgiving. Spend as much time as you can with that new grand baby. ❤️❤️❤️
“Daddy! Daddy! I want a cat please! Don’t worry! I’ll get one at a shelter so it doesn’t cost too much!” 2000$-5000$ later over time! 😆 turned out to be a pricey cat. Lol
hey guys, love following your journey. what's the plan now? boat projects till....? and back to Montana in .....? just being a curious cat... getting ready when you guys go dark while on hols. enjoy your time off everything not related to sailing. tell Anna to keep us posted on her journey even when not sailing with the crew. love and big hugs to the z-crew.
Happy Thanksgiving Whitakers! I came downstairs after my turkey coma and my cat had a mouse on the kitchen floor. When it's cold here in PA they come in our old farm house. No mice on the boat I bet. Oh and I just bought a drone from your ad. Your welcome. Be safe!
Nice wheels dudes. Almost didn't recognise it as the interior was the cleanest it's ever been. LOL. With you on the passage making; time goes pretty darned slow. Still, it's time spent together. Can't ask more than that.
Another great episode, still catching up with previous episodes from the past few months and enjoying each and every one. Love you guys are brutally honest, "love the travel , swimming, diving" etc., and living on a boat , but hate the sailing part ! We are not sailors ...that's just hilarious, doing pretty great so far though with over 30,000 NMs. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Great video!!! Now that you have experience with a few diesel engine types (and problems as in this video) if you were to buy brand new approximately 50 hp engines would you go with common rail (more fuel efficient and less soot & ? quieter/smoother) or traditional mechanical fuel injection that is bulletproof and does not need electrical once running?
In regards to the QA about Monstercat - Monstercat is an electronic music label, like any other record label. They just happen to be fairly prolific in the industry and forward-thinking in that they offer the option to license their music. Smart!
Great video as always. Keep up the great work. Queztion: now that you have been on the water awhile and have some experience in warranty issues ( watched that video), would you buy new or used if you were buying a boat?
You need to install a couple of those hundred dollar Chinese diesel heaters in the engine room to heat the engine room, and the living spaces. You need the exhaust up high so seawater doesn't get in the exhaust. Ebay has them all over the place, so even have water heating options, but are the hardest to find. Maybe one or two 5 kw models..
Hi Family - we will get our TRIMARAN Mandy on March 2020 and will be in St. Tropez Mediterenian Sea - if you come to our area 2020 we will definetly meet . You are great and I have learned a lot from you - thank you very much for your VIDEOS and Infos here on RUclips . wbrgs ToM - Skipper -
Great Thanksgiving treat this video! Hope y’all have a happy Thanksgiving! Volvo Marine is dependable. Hate the computers attached. Thankful it was just a fuse. Fair winds!
Yikes...my first thought was, did you check your fuses? Bummer. I don't think the captain ever gets a vacation with all the responsibility and never ending duties to keep the boat afloat. But, as long as the family is having a little fun and learning responsibilities, it's worth it.
Regarding the worn out electric motor for your windlass that is no longer in production, have you considered buying one used? Is there a marketplace for used boating parts similar to junk yards for car parts?
I wonder if you had a couple of scooner rectangular sails and hoisted 1 or 2 of them mid main mast, if it would've helped when you got caught in a bind of 4 to 6 knots and without engine power❓
Kpt Keith and family. "Dankie"/ Thanx 4 a great sailing program. Your cockpit with 5 TV screens looks good. U never use a sextant or paper paper charts/ maps? What will u do if the electrics/ electronics fail? The cost of sailing? U use and thing in US Dollars. That is 15 times the South African Rand. It is a very costly business!.Thanx 4 the fantastic show!
Don’t feel bad about the fuse. In my sailing 101 class after sailing 7 hours and then turning toward the marina which was also into the wind, the captain, crew and students could not start the engine, after two hours of checking everything possible, we gave up and called for a tow in, the rescue boat came towed us about three miles to the mouth of the port, when a student asked what this button? on the side of the console. The person pushed it the engine started because the key was left on. Had to explain that to charter company and everyone.

Fill a container/jug with water. Place a egg in the water, if it floats, it's bad, if it sinks to the bottom immediately and stays there its OK, good to go. Just a thought:)
Hilarious sequence LOL 1:25 Keith I’ve done this before and my quip is.. “Create a problem, solve the problem.. Claim hero status”

So yeah, It's like being on vacation! LOL Love the videos! Great Family.
Fighting boredom is exactly what I thought you would say. I watch every episode. Maybe I need to take a break !!
WHANGAREI!! Thats my home town. So odd to see old familiar sights in a sailing vlog. Hope you are enjoying your time here.😊

Good questions on the q&a.
Cool family.
Awesome content and channel.
Grettings from monterrey,mexico
Keith, a quick question... Are you still current with your pilot's license and if so, how did you manage that? Thanks.
While ur in the Pacific u going to visit any WWII sites. That would be nice for the kids to know about what happened in WWII. Great videos.

Thank you for sharing your amazing story 🇨🇦☮️☮️🤟🤟🕊🕊peace love and happiness
Hey Kieth! Now that you've had the Cat 585 for a while with the solar panels post "Tim the Tool Man Install", how have THOSE solar panels worked out for you (as in brand/type)? Recomendable or not so much?
Love the channel as always and keep yo the adventure and living life!

Fill a container/jug with water. Place a egg in the water, if it floats, it's bad, if it sinks to the bottom immediately and stays there its OK, good to go. Just a thought:)
Will you guys becoming down to the south Island at any point? Specifically Nelson/Abel Tasman area?
