- I decided I needed some time in nature but, didn't feel like going all the way to the river... So, I decided to go catfishing at a lake that is 5 minutes from my house. Olathe Lake or Lake Olathe was the lake that I grew up catching catfish and this is the body of water where I really fell in love with everything catfishing!!
This was a fun, short, painful, enjoyable trip to the old stomping grounds.

The lake closes at 10pm boats must be off the water by 9pm
Yeah I used to stay all night at O Lake and pull my car right up to the flats. Recently we've been catching bait in the boat out there and if you're not in by 10 the guy that has to lock the gate shines a big light on you and then uses his megaphone to tell you to come in... He never seems to mind... Sometimes we lose track of time.
But.. I've never been kicked out when cops talked to me at 3am there fishing.. Especially fishing places that can't be closed off like the areas off Dennis and the Dam. But lately they want you to get on your merry way bc they fixed up the lake to be a mini Shawnee Mission Lake. I'll still fish this lake late at night.
