The subtle differences in the Young brothers' rhythm parts that most people probably wouldn't notice are part of what makes their sound so great and unique. They really did have an amazing way of communicating with and complementing each other with their instruments.
My God you nailed that tone!..I probably listened to this one on headphones a thousand times as a kid when this album came out. My favorite on this album!
Man, you just solved a big puzzle for me. The difference between the Malcolm and Angus parts is the magic ingredient that you hear but can't put your finger on until you really analyze it closely. I am convinced that there is something that happens when siblings play in a band together. (Pantera?) Great tutorial. I have a pretty good sense about playing ACDC, and I think timing is 90% of their sound, and Beating Around the Bush has been the one song that I could never nail 100%. Thank you so much for the work you put into this. This has to be one of their best songs.
Thanks sooo much for the lesson, you really helped me ! Also thanks for Malcolm’s part, he is my fav guitarist, so thanks for mentioning his part here. Also, I think you are a great rhythm guitarist, with Malcolm’s rhythm style. Thanks again ! ❤🙏🤘
Been one of my fav AC/DC songs since I was about 9. Can finally play it now, nearly 40 years later due to your video. Thanks v much! I can’t play ‘oh well’ now though. Ha. Can’t keep the two in my head.
Yup been saying that for years now...I wish I was rich I'd pay him what he deserves...well worth the money and time invested.....anyway yes ur right absolutely
I could never get the awesome main riff down as a kid, just randomly gave it a try again thanks to this video and finally got it down lol. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us all
Man your tone and playing it's just awesome and how u explain in every video is so down to business, all classics well explained and played. THE best channel by far
Hey man this is awesome. I don't know if you'll see this but I've scoured every video on youtube for Malcolms rhythm part that kicks in like a locomotive in Thunderstruck which may be my favorite thing he's ever done. Everybody concentrates on Angus's intro but nobody has done Malcolm correctly and if anyone could do it you're the caliber of player that could get it done. I've even gone as far as listening to the isolated rhythm guitar part you can find on youtube. Anyway, thanks for all you do.
I've come across your videos a few times over the years while deep in the RUclips wormhole, and I have to say, I love your Les Paul. It doesn't look like just another burst, it looks unique without looking tacky. And this song is one of the few AC DC riff I never could quite figure out by ear for some reason. Yet it's so simple when you show us how. Thanks for the lesson man! Cheers.
I have to be a pest here. In the opening riff that end on the plucked open D, you can hear the open A slightly ring which is a result of your finger coming off it from the previous note. I was doing the same exact thing and it annoyed me, so I learned to mute it with my fretting finger as I pluck the D. If you listen to the album version, Angus is playing every note very clean with no overlap.
Brilliant, mate👋👍. You make it so much easier ,to me anyway, to understand and naming the chords . As a oldie beginner I thank you, some more AC/DC , lessons ,especially earlier stuff please . Brilliant 👍🇬🇧
Just super accurate and awesome. BTW I love the way in this song how where the riff repeats after the end of the chorus, the second time, just before the solo, Angus delays a bit compared to the first time (or perhaps the first time is rushed a bit) and it just launches the solo. I also love how the rushed timing of the first post chorus riff makes it sound “tougher”.
Correction the timing of the first post chorus riff is slowed a touch and doesn’t swing until the G E G E bit. Noticed Angus also bends the fat G a touch sometimes for a bit more swing.
Hey out there, such a cool riff, ..such a cool video-tutorial / teacher👍 Thank you so much for making and sharing such great video-guitar-lessons. You really make an old boy like me (58 years) cry with joy, ..now that I can learn to play myself such cool music of my youth on my own guitar (Gibson Les Paul Studio), ...really really appreciate it👍👏👍👌 Thankful greetings from Germany Thomas😎
Great breakdown - particularly Malcolm's part vs Angus' part. It is great for guitarists in learning how to make the groove and sit with the drums and bass in a groove (rather than always playing 'over' the rhythm seeing it as a separate thing - the biggest failing of many guitarists in my view). Back Street Confidential (original gigged version in the Australian pubs) was how we knew this song, then they tightened it up to make it BAtB. I'm thinking that's why everyone knows it only as Beating Around the Bush? Anyways very nice to see this breakdown!
The example you gave how you might have played this when you first learned how to play guitar, sloppy and loose. It is the best I can do except I didn’t just start learning how to play guitar.
Dude your demo’s are so fucking tight! Seriously you should upload straight up covers. I’ve downloaded a lot of your demos to listen to them offline. They’re literally that good
played this with my lp standard but sounded better on the lp with P90s. The tone was just better for this song. Used to play the fleetwood mac version in our sets (decades ago). One of the songs that made me pick up the guitar in the first place! Very fun riff!
BRAVO !!! MR. GUITAR TEACHER. You are a EXCELLENT TEACHER. NOTE = I ADORE YOUR LES PAUL ! It has such a NASTY SOUND to it. I Like it BETTER than Angus Gibson S.G. - Thank you once again, from the heart. Are you familiar with my Guitar hero.....Mr. Tommy Bolin ??? Deep Purple, James Gang, Billy Cobham ???? Anyway, he did a song with Purple, on the Come Taste The Band LP back in 1975 called....... " DEALER " = I need some help sir and I KNOW you are just the man that could help me.....and Im sure all the guitar players of the Internet will....ADORE....this tune. Anyway, I thank you for your wonderful lesson. Take care and try to get back to me. If not no problem.....God Bless. Sincerely, Joe
Hey Luke. With all due respect to Angus, who is a fantastic guitar player...it's NEVER the solos that interest me with AC/DC songs. It's the rhythm parts that are awesome! Malcolm was one of the best ever and the way they voiced the rhythm parts between the two guitars was pure genius! Cheers Andy
Not a problem sir! Was only just curious I'm sure I can whip it up studying it more. Thanks again for step by step on this one, been asking many around for years on this song. God bless my friend!
Thanks for sharing these great lessons but could you please do without you by Badfinger. I learnt the other two songs by them that you covered, but cant get my head around that one...
The subtle differences in the Young brothers' rhythm parts that most people probably wouldn't notice are part of what makes their sound so great and unique. They really did have an amazing way of communicating with and complementing each other with their instruments.
The rhythmic overlays are subtle and profound, I hear you brother. ;-)
My God you nailed that tone!..I probably listened to this one on headphones a thousand times as a kid when this album came out. My favorite on this album!
Absolutely one of my all time favorite riffs!!!!
As per usual played with pin point accuracy and feeling - total respect and admiration. Thanks!
Thank you very much Mervyn!
Thank you very much, my favorite AC/DC song.
For each lesson, could you also include a reason for the wife, why I won't be doing any chores today. thank you.
Randy, what are these "chores" that you speak of?
I thought I was the only one. You would think I was cheating on her with that damn guitar.
Looking for help oh this lick and came across your comment. Now that’s funny!
😂

Every single tutorial you are spot on and I appreciate you taking the time to teach us these songs with such details! ~Russ
I really had fun making this demo. It's super short, but a lot of intensity! Cheers
Kick-ass song, and top quality tutorial as well. Good stuff
Underrated riff for sure! Love the crisp tone!

Top player and tutorial
Thank you Willem!

Might be the first time I’ve ever heard anyone nail that riff. Perfect as far as I can tell!.
One of the awesome riff of rockn'roll history ! thanks!

Great lesson, especially the guidance on up/down picking!

I have said it before and I am saying it again. Your lessons are the best on You tube and you chose awesome songs. Keep em comin!!!
Great lesson man!! 👍🏻 I was able to pick it up in no time with your lesson.. thank you!! 🤙🏻🎸
I personally feel this is the hardest AC-DC song to play on guitar. You have to be so precise with that riff. It is so easy to screw up.
Well great, just finished guitar one in high school and want to learn it but im not exactly the best player...
The riff isn't as hard as keeping the rythm imo. It's easier to screw up
Agrees
'Thunderstruck' is arguably more difficult as it requires higher levels of coordination to get the line on B string just right.
@@szymonzbijowski9776 Getting it up to speed is the tricky thing for me.

Is it a 77-79? The carve on the top looks just like mine.
You make the riff look so easy. I have been trying for a solid week, not even close. I will keep it up though, it sounds so damn good.
Now THIS is what I've been looking for....Awesome stuff !
My fingers bled the past 2 days! Thank you for this excellent runthrough!!

Great, thanks for that. Thanks to the explanations, I've come a lot closer to my goal.
I could play that riff all night, hundreds of times, it's so fun. Try playing it in drop D, talk about difficult, still great fun !
Just brilliant ! Thanks.
Very thorough. Thanks man.
Great lesson thanks. You're right it is tricky.. I keep drifting into "Oh Well"! Such a good riff to learn and master.
Brilliant, mate👋👍. You make it so much easier ,to me anyway, to understand and naming the chords . As a oldie beginner I thank you, some more AC/DC , lessons ,especially earlier stuff please . Brilliant 👍🇬🇧

Half the stuff like that just happens,it’s not necessarily planned, people over analyze the guitar to no end,it’s music, theory, not fact
Wow man took a lot to get the picking right, but once u get it, u feel the groove, as always spot on lesson!
Agree, this is also THE killer riff for me, too!!
that's amazing! thank you very much!!
Sweet. You make this so easy but I've been playing for almost 50 years. LOL Seriously though, you jam!
