Bro, you're literally the guy who played all of Marty's solos for this whole album with no distortion (whilst staring expressionless into the camera). If this is hard for you I don't even want to acknowledge this solo exists, let alone try to learn it.
Imma go try to play this now and realize what your talking about 😂😂
Bro, can you react youtubers alip ba ta
Dude, I saw your dad playing it yesterday perfectly like 20 times in a row. No wonder he bullies you, you deserve it
😂
Lmfao 😂😂
?? Serj sings he doesn't play guitar
We all need that one experience on the guitar to really push us to our limits. It's what makes learning and getting better at guitar a fun never-ending journey. Cheers man

Mine was cliffs of dover!
I still remember the solo for “Omens of Love” but butcher the fast parts.
I’m my opinion Marty Friedman is one of the most unique metal guitarists there is. His phrasing and creativity along with his articulation and smoothness makes it so difficult to replicate.
yes
Marty is a god
This video shows the more detail oriented side of what it takes to be really good at music, which a lot of people don't necessarily mention too often. I liked it.
1:50 documentary style walk-in has absolutely slayed me
If it makes you feel better, I'm pretty sure Marty said this was one of the hardest for him to play on the album too
Prob why he never played it live
I don't think he has ever said this. This was the first solo he recorded for Megadeth coming out of Cacophony and his solo stuff, and Mustaine liked it. That's all he's said about it. The "hardest" and most complex solo for him on Rust In Peace was Lucretia. That said, Marty and Becker were playing at a level back then that to this day not many have even come close to so anything from around that time period is near impossible to replicate.
@@DreamEclipse Yeah, I've being struggling with Lucretia's solo for more than a year. I don't know if it's the hardest one, but I can swear is hard as hell. XD
He sped it up
@@vwlz8637
Nope!
This has ALWAYS been my favorite track from Rust In Peace, and has ALWAYS been my favorite Marty solo. Tried learning it and just gave up on getting it right. I remember the first Rudy video I saw was the clean Rust In Peace solo covers, and I thought "oh I can finally get it right if he can do it clean!". I was wrong but hey thank god I discovered Rudy
What's the song?

Marty is my favourite player, his note choice and bends are just fantastic. You can tell it’s him within seconds which is a rare quality only a few have
Absolutely loved this video. Very interesting to watch and follow throughout and I learned a lot about the solo.
Been a sub for a while now (4 years, I think? 5?) and loving where you're going with the recent videos, esp. the camerawork. Best of luck!
This is akin to a character study as an actor... gorgeous breakdown of the dynamics, substance and subtleties of the great Friedman solo🤘💙💚🤘
... and kudos on the "breakdown" within your breakdown of said deliciousness...
You SLAYED it homie
loved the attention to detail in this, I agree with your opinion on how covers should be done, it does make life more difficult, but I want to know exactly how to play something I love. I loved the note on picking closer to the bridge for some parts, I rarely ever think about that aspect of my playing.
Rust in Peace had such an impact in our lives that we will always keep coming back to this masterpiece, decade after decade. My favorite metal album of all times. It's mind-blowing that these 3 songs happen in a sequence in Rust in Peace: Poison was the Cure -> Lucretia ->Tornado fo Souls. Three songs with three all-time-great solos going one after another. How can that be possible? Rust in Peace is such a master piece because it opens with the sequence Holy Wars - Hangar 18, has the sequence Poison was the Cure - Lucretia - Tornado, and closes with another thrash master piece: Rust in Peace...Polaris (with the thrashiest outro possible to close the album). I haven't even mentioned take no prisioners and five magics! Such a perfect album...

Bro youre overusing and most def underestimating the word masterpiece, good album, thats it
I would watch more videos like this one. I enjoy the mistakes, performance, and analysis. Thank you for sharing.
2:46 Damn Rudy you were tearing shit up right there that was sick.
Mate, what a brilliant video! You "articulated" your frustration so well and for any of us that have tried to cover a solo, you are doing the community proud by nailing the dynamics and fell from the original. Mind you, I pretty much like all your vids but this was beautifully honest.
That pentatonic section after the sweeps where you go to the bridge pickup - to me, if you nail the accents on the highest notes it all seems to fall into place... but dang, you did it justice!
Excellent playing and well worth the effort - keep it up man, you are a boss!
Cheers from Australia.
To me, Lucretia is the hardest solo on the album. The phrasing of those arpeggios are brutal, not even to mention that the arpeggios themselves are quite awkward to play however you slice them. Marty’s articulation is so legendary.
What I’ve learned about practicing Marty’s solos is to just power through fucking up. The moment you stop yourself after you mess up is the moment you shoot yourself in the foot, because you’re now training your muscle memory to fuck up in that same spot rather than training it to just play the solo all the way through. I notice myself repeating the same mistake over and over when I stop playing due to a fuck up, but when I just keep playing, I make that mistake way less.
Its actually my favorite
I remember something along those lines said about riding a horse in show jumping - if you stop before taking a jump you’re just gonna teach the horse to stop there.
Ahahaha n1😂😊
man u should totaly do more videos like this , like ur actually a such a pro man. I am sure u will get even more views as well!
singing the notes in my mind helped me allot to improve my playing, I believe this is the case because I no longer only know a piece by muscle memorisation or pattern, but I have to learn and give time to Fastly "articulate" the sound in my head consciencly, and again, I think that helps to create a grounding of what I am really playing, to finish as well, it trains your mind to be more focused on the song itself rather than just be lose in other toughts while we are playing, which again, when our minds are focused in other maters it ruins our performance
💯
Solo breakdowns like this are super entertaining, especially ones that push your boundaries like this, really cool to see how you approach things
Love the channel and your playing
Funny. When i saw the thumbnail and title in my feed. My first inclination was. Probably a David Gilmour solo. Clicked. Oh MArty, yes for sure. Though actually i was a fan of his and trying to learn his licks before he ever recorded those Megadeth records. Him and Becker. Both their solior albums. There was a time where me and a friend could play AIR most of the way through.
I was always slightly more into Marty. His instructional tape and how he described "this is how most would do it, this is how i would do it" greatly influenced me. Quite honestly i cannot play a single solo from any of my idols today, and barely ever tried since the mid 80's. I used to be able to play half a Via solo here or there, a few licks from Yngwie. Maybe the hardest work i ever put into anything was to play Beckers AIR, a few priest solos, A few early Def Leppard solos, a few Maiden solos, some Accept and maybe 3 Randy Rhoads solos or pieces of them. I kinda didn't give a sht about learning other peoples solos. Like Eruption back in the day everyone was playing it. I was like why even bother. I don't want to pay like EVH, everyone's gonna say sounds like EVH. All i wanted to take from them was the essence, the fire and fuel my creativity. But anyway yeah Marty is in my tops no question, huge influence on Dragons Kiss and Scenes alone.
I recently had to play Painkiller on lead guitar for a cover show. The second solo took me about 10 minutes to learn but the first (longer) solo took me like 2 months lmao. Same energy for sure
how much did YOU get paid
$40, I think? It was a single 3 hour cover show with a ton of other musicians

the sweep at the beginning is a nightmare to play clean at least the way it’s originally fingered
Don’t barre the sweeps 🧹
Articulation 🙌 never heard it described like this, really opened my eyes!
Hey man - I bought that album when it was brand spanking new, and over the years I've listened to that song many many times.
It is my dried up crusty old opinion that you are just nailing it. And you've done it all without any kind of weird hooked picking hand.
Cheers
Maybe Rudy needs a weird pick technique to perfect it?
Cracked me up with "so much margain for error its not fun anymore - same feels if cliffs of dover solo here ❤
Poison Was The Cure is a great song!
This type of content, the process of you trying to play a solo is so fun. Love it man keep it up, and ramadan kareem
I relate so much to this video. Im currently learning Avenged Sevenfold Nobody solo and it’s absolutely killing me. Some great tips here! Thanks Rudy
Synyster Gates is on another level with his pick hand/fret hand techniques, theory knowledge and just pure grace and feel on the guitar is something out of this world. He's been my guitar God for like 15 years now. He mixes jazz and metal together in his leads. Took me forever in the beginning to learn his solos. Still cant write with his grace yet though (probably never will lol) If u need help with any of them reply to this and I'll send u my email.
@@MikeSmith-ns6py Too bad A7x songs are a pain to hear nowadays.
Synyster gates was one of my guitar heroes growing up. Now i feel like he has become a wasted talent...
@@synhet84haven't listened to A7x since maybe nightmare but used to love them - what happened?
Same. nobody is difficult, not because it is ultra fast, but because it is decently fast and jumps all over the fretboard
This is why classical is so hard. One can play all the right notes at the right time on a Bach or Barrios piece, and it might sound like crap. The articulation is the key to it sounding like music
Look at the changes in "dos partes de mi" by Antonio Rey and it has changes that make it hard to play along smoothly
It's so cool, that you came back to more guitar content and a little less focus on funny stuff :)
Damn I didn't realise your chops were so crazy gnarly
Mate, you NAILED that solo! Also, that suspended arpeggio run at @5:50 is a NIGHTMARE! I was stupid enough to fall in love with that sound and used it all over the place on my bands last album. For some extra hassle I decided to do it clean on our track "Crack of Light" now I have to spend a week on just that section before we tour just so I don't crash and burn LOL. Keep shredding \mm/
Wish you the best for your tour
@@learningftw8173 thank you so much!!
Articulation: For more please see just about any song by Guthrie Govan or if you want a specific example, The Aristocrats - Bad Asteroid. Nothing is particularly too technically demanding at first sight but to get a sense of the phrasing and pull it of so cleanly it feels like second nature while also improvising most of it is why we often declare Guthrie to be untouchable.
that was a nice take, congrats.
This is why I can work on a solo cover for years. The small things are the big things.
you inspire me
Knew it was gonna be a Friedman solo lol I'm having the same issue with the last bit of Scottie's solo in Neurotic, Polyphia.
So relatable, when being a perfectionist while practicing solos!
Marty is a GOD of guitar. I've played guitar for over 20 years and Marty has the best vibrato and phrasing I've ever heard. All of his solos fit the song, unlike other guitarists where it just seems like they're noodling randomly. For me, the hardest part of any of Marty's solos is actually the fretting hand and phrasing. You need to be able to execute tasteful vibratos in very short pockets of time and the phrasing is often off-beat (but ultimately lands on the chord change), so that took a lot of getting used to.
Beginner guitarists think picking technique is the holy grail, but it's actually the fretting hand that creates tone and musicality. You can technically play all the right notes to a Marty solo yet sound like complete sheet because it's all in the phrasing and vibrato.
Poison was the cure is what I would call a "perfect solo" in the sense that I wouldn't change a single note. Everything is exactly where it needs to be. I would put Lucretia and ToS in that category as well.
Anyone who has played guitar for years and is into technical guitar music understands how good Marty's solos are (in RIP but his solo albums too). It's so hard to recreate some of the unique sounds he gets. Much of it comes from his Gypsy Jazz style picking technique which gives a huge downward pickslant. It's very difficult to recreate the articulation of those arpeggios with a standard picking style. It just doesn't sound the same.
Most shredders sound exactly the same to me, but I can always tell when I'm listening to a Marty solo. They're just different man.
More videos like this Rudy pls.
This one hits home :S
I too gave this solo a shot , cant say i nailed it (idk if i even came close tbh) but i gave it a fair try :D
Great video as always
Great Job man, with closed eyes I could never tell if this was played by Ayoub or Adobe :D
great format for a video, need more like this.
I nailed this the first time by ear! In my head that is 😂
The crazy scientist outlook gives an impression that you probably have access to some hidden knowledge on guitar playing. Go for it! Although you need first really strong eyeglasses for it.
Didn't know the song so I shazamed your video starting at 0:40, it worked. Accurate enough I guess, congrats!
It feels so nice to live in one of the timelines where Rust in Peace was recorded.
1:55 can't agree more. Keep meeting people who think that because they cannot play solos correctly they are just "putting their own spin on it" and they always think it's "un-original" to "just copy the solo" this is the world we are living in lol. Like bro how are you gonna add anything to the solo when you cannot play it in the first place
Now that’s some quality content man❤️
Great video! Love the explanations, mistakes and all and how hard solos like that are.
This was actually a great video man, keep it up!
imma learn it
i m learning shred stuff
also polyphia
but i m lazy too because depression super hard (rare thing pretty much nobody has what i have or a few few people..wish i could be lucky)
so yeah but i m practicing alternate picking sweep..

just a katana ampn which is ok but not insane for the tone
so it kinda can makes u less motivated
anyway i ll learn it
Good luck bud, have fun banging your head against your guitar
Amazing effort and take GG Rudby and done without a headstock wow
One of my fav solos.
I wonder if using a headless guitar worked against you. Since most of the weight is in the body, you don't have the weight of the headstock acting as resistance when you want to do aggressive bends or vibratos. It might be too ergonomic in this case.
Rudy: this solo is impossible to play perfectly!!
*He plays it perfectly...
Really great upload Rudy! Love this style of video
bro imagine doing it STANDING UP
IN FRONT of people
with one try
Well done on achieving that level of goodness. I am progressively working my way through Rust in Peace and this is certainly one of the trickier ones.
Congrats Rudy! Now give us a video of you playing that same solo on that oud leaning on the wall!😊
Rust in peace...is absolutely wonderful when it comes to the guitar solos cuz Marty Friedman is stunning, his choices are always special ,
Using different scales from everywhere to get this unexpected, really nice mix...
And I assume it's normal for anyone even with a decent or really good technique to struggle with this kind of *exotic* playing.
Poison was the cure is probably Megadeth's fastest song, and picking up its rythm throughout the whole song probably helps the guitarist playing the solo even though I don't think any megadeth member since Marty played it live perfectly...
Marty Friedman was in his prime in the 90s. From technical to melodic solos he’s the king of those insane phrases.
Now i understand what you meant by proper note articulation in your live stream few weeks back... gg bro
love this change in content! sick vid
Man, you are a beast!
I like your insights
I can learn a lot of stuff pretty easily nowadays, but damn when I learn Marty Friedman stuff it takes me a minute.

Just wow! You make me feel really bad on guitar. But i also really love your channel. Keep on!
Ahhh what Megadeth song is that!! It's driving me crazy
Impressive driving skills, even more impressive guitar skills. As you were explaining how ARTICULATION is the way of doing something, I automatically thought about driving. Let me explain:
So it like when you attack a corner from the outside and hit the apex on the inside and exit it from the outside, pretty basic stuff. BUT! Depending on the next corner, sometimes hitting the apex of the first corner will slow you down for the next corner, so you need to have the right "rythm" when attacking those corners.
Obviously I am not as articulate as you ;) so Idk if you understand my point. But very impressive. You seem like a nice guy to chat with. If you ever visit Montreal, let us know, we can meet and greet or smt. Take care
sweet picking is the hardest!
Knew this was going to be PWTC before clicking on the video. Marty is impossible to truly replicate.
Also I felt every moment of this video in my bones.

I was seriously impressed by the solo then I realised I was watching at 1.25x
I've probably spent a grand total of 500 hours trying to record a good single take of Bach's solfeggietto in Cm. I've maybe played it through cleanly like 4 or 5 times over the last decade. Of course, never with the red light on. I feel this video.

Nice sim racing setup man
I just took a good look at the tab. The position changes are nuts but a lot of the patterns look similar to what you encounter in the first minute of Perpetual Burn. But then when you throw Marty’s monstrous bends in it becomes so hard to switch in and out of techniques so rapidly. Either way I think you did a great job.
I wrote this comment and realized I was talking about Lucretia because I read a different commend. Major brain fart. Yeah poison was the cure def the hardest solo on Rust.
Different comment *
I just watched Beato interview Friedman last night, and he ( Marty ) broached this very topic.
Brace yourself because gonna sting a little...
MF: It's all the minute choices your make - how to strike each note...where on the string to strike it. Do you hammer on, slide, alt pick, bend, pull up your whammy bar...??
There are hundreds of different ways you could "say" each phrase. And, each note, as a matter of fact.
And this is where Marty hurts our feelings...
He said, "so many players just learn to play solos/ passages to play it "just like" their idol.
"But what's the point? The only way to develop your iwn "sound " is to play everything YOUR way - not the artists ' way.
"It's the most important thing!" he says
" It's the difference between a player and an artist".
And Beato went 🤯 -. 🤣
But seriously... he makes s point...🤔
When you can recognise the Guitarist by the first 2-3 notes you know it's Marty.
Great video
Marty has and always will be my number 1 favourite guitarist! So original sounding! However I do believe that Kiko is and has been the best replacement guitarist for Megadeth since Marty ! It’s not just because I’m seeing Megadeth on May the 4th be with you in Stoon either lol
Nice, I'm seeing them in Winnipeg the day after.
