Breakout Players & Scouting Future Stars - MLB The Show 23 Franchise | Ep.3

- Today we start a big MLB The Show 23 Franchise series with the Oakland Athletics. The A's are the toughest team for Franchise mode in MLB The Show this year, with their weak roster, struggling farm system, and the lowest budget in baseball. The rebuild of this team won't be easy. And there aren't many future stars already on the roster. We need to scout, develop, and completely change this team to succeed in the rebuild.
On my MrHurriicaneLP channel I make sports gaming lets play series. My series focus on building teams and players from sports like baseball and football. I play games such as Madden 23, NCAA Football 14, MLB The Show 23 and more.

Video seems to need time to process still. If you're seeing it only available at 360p or 480p, just wait a few minutes and it should catch up. Long videos need extra time!
Hey Cane, you should try to trade for Nate Pearson of the blue jays, he’s a good young pitcher who has been plagued with injuries, and would be a perfect player to give a chance in a rebuild like this
Cane AntOrtiz made a scouting guide video. In his video he uses his scouts to looks at positions as a whole for a couple weeks to get a decent percent scouting knowledge on more than one player before he decides who to put a scout on to complete. I think using something like that would be useful for you too rather than burning your first weeks focused on just a couple players.
I second this! I thought I was a strong “scout” but that video really helped me juice my drafts. This team will thank you for a deep draft! Great vid as always!
Be careful cane, based on what age and what class the prospect is changes the range of OVR and POT in scouting. For instance, the range on a 23 year old who is a 4 year junior college athlete will have a narrower range than an 18 year old out of HS.
I met Lawrence Butler one time, he was not very nice
@@cartermerdian6874 what’d he do
@@orxchi3853 it was at a minor league and He wouldn’t sign autographs which he doesn’t have to but he kept giving me dirty looks and stuff. It was also only like 3 people asking for autographs
@@cartermerdian6874 ah that sucks
I agree, the game feels refreshing. The bat sounds and updated scoreboard have helped a lot with that and the updated scouting has enhanced a layer of depth in franchise mode
Jesus Aguilar's speed banter is developing into my favorite running joke of the series 🏃
Aguilar must of got a speed upgrade from that infield single in the first episode. It’s up from 4 to 5!
It’s so cool watching you play with Zach Jackson. We played on the same travel ball team growing up. He’s a stud!!
Except for in this series lol he needs to figure it out!
Just made my Sunday 1000x better, Amazing series Cane!
That pacing of thr first game was dope
I really hope we get to see more prospects play in this series. Kinda disappointing that we never really got to see anyone outside of David Geronimo and Johnny Shaffer in Rockies franchise. A lot of the guys that got drafted should’ve gotten more of a look especially guys like Michael Wilkerson
I never comment on videos, pretty sure this is my first one ever, but this is one of the few times I’m starting one of yours series as it’s coming out instead of 2 years after it’s done, haha. Love both your channels no matter the content💯 As far as this series goes, I liked the start of the video with a highlights only game, followed by some team management whether that’s scouting, switching around the bench, call ups/downs, managing the minor teams, changing the batting order, etc. and then ending by simming a series or two, and then playing a full game. This seems to make for a longer video, but that’s necessary to cover all the aspects of baseball. You’re doing great work MrHurriicane(LP), and you’ll always have a fan in GA
Love the highlight format. Gives us all the bigger details and let’s you love quicker through the season
Middle of the lineup, middle of the field players are typically how you want to build a team.. SP, SS, CF, C and 2B...also 1 thing you should be able to find very easily in free agency is corner fielding power hitters..
Oriole Park as a base to make a new stadium is perfect. My favourite stadium in MLB. Small, close to the action, very friendly.
High School Students get around 45% scouting per week while college students get around 80% a week because it is easier to scout college students in real life compared to high school students
I'd look into scouting straight up positions as well. Take a look at the location of the majority and use that to pick East, West, etc. It gets you a decent chunk of scouting percentage without just being on one prospect
Needed this after the heartbreak of Wrestlemania! Thanks for coming in clutch Cane.
Honestly I'm ok with Roman winning
Big fan of the quick rundown of highlights for a couple games into simming a couple games into playing some games. Good mixup, let's you see the behind the scenes moves in scouting, trading and free agency more often and makes these longer videos go quicker.
Camden Yards was just redesigned last year to be more pitcher friendly. I’d take a look at that one or the old Comerica Park before they changed the dimensions this year
Comerica has always been hitter friendly down the lines
Love the game highlights with your commentary overtop. Easy way for you to cover multiple games in an episode.
When you mentioned about the minor league season - Triple A started on March 31. I was at opening day in Worcester, freezing my butt off because it was like 50 degrees and raining.
Hey Cane, I play on PS5 and have had five crashes with 83 hours played. It has only happened to me in the middle of the games and is very frustrating.
What I recommend doing to avoid losing progress is once a big moment occurs or you get 5-6 innings into the game, is to save and exit the game so if it does crash you will have your progress through those innings.
Keep up the great work, love the new series!
Jerseys and everything stay the same when you jump back in as well, so viewers wouldn’t lose any immersion!
I love that idea of a taller wall for part of the field. Red Sox field always has and always will bother me out in left field. But I do love the Twins stadium, that like 20 foot right field wall is fun
Very much enjoying the series. Gotta say MLB The Show 2023 looks to be, quite possibly, the best sports game out there as it is pretty photo realistic. Needless to say I am very much enjoying the series and look forward to many, many more episodes yet to come.
Springs is a very realistic trade target. He is the rays 5th starter. They have Yonny Chirinos, and 3 highly toured, close to mlb ready prospects in AAA (Bradley, Baz and Patino).
I think trading them a guy like Seth Brown for Springs is realistic and should be accepted by the CPU
Jackson's ERA coming into the game really making Wal Street sweat!
And Acevdao bringing up bad memories for Pope Gregory VII!
Blackburn was also really solid the beginning of the year last season
Was literally about to ask in the other video when the next one comes out 😭 thank you dude I’ve been watching you for 8 years since I was 15
This was a enjoyable episode and yea i can see you doing like a episode of more management stuff and scouting and more simming and some episodes of player lock or playing the games, so a nice mix of of that for the Franchise would prolly be best to keep things fresh and different. Also i think that the highest RBI for one single player on the team will be 71.
When u bring in a reliever, u should thro some warm up pitches. It build confidence in pitches which gives u more control.
One thing I do in my franchises (a's last year, rays this year) is take on a bad contract from another team, and have them include a good prospect. You obviously have to give them something back, maybe a cheap guy like Brown.
The rationale is, even with an extremely limited budget, you can afford to take on a few years of a terrible contract. The justification is the other team either wants to use that money elsewhere, or they're just broke lol.
One obvious example is Corbin on Washington. Don't fleece the AI, but maybe construct a trade where you get Corbin and a prospect from a deep position they have.
Hopefully I explained that right lol. Basically like the mlb version of the Browns Osweiler trade.
2022 RBI leader for the A's was Seth Brown with 73, I think he will lead again but this time with only 58. Also the real life A's are averaging 1 run a game so you're hitting better than they are so far.
Not sure it’s the direction you want to go but free agency usually has some 50-65 overall young high potential guys, I signed 2 top 50 prospects out of there for my reds franchise
Doing the game not on yt but recapping it is smart and is cool to see what we missed for a recap!
Ik it’s early but I feel like Seth Brown might be worth holding on to. He might be 30 but I doubt he’ll start declining until his 35 but I like his floor is a solid bench bat. That 2 years of service time and so much team control I feel like he is a great guy to keep on the team and a pretty cheap deal especially how he’s been playing so far.
As a phillies fan, I love the angled wall in left center field at Citizens Bank Park. They designed the wall like that so a chance of extended plays and inside the park HR.
See this year you can easily get multiple mlb ready players from the draft like baker , he’s 21 usually the 21 + prospects at the top are the most mlb ready , he’s 84-94 potential so likely high 90s , and 68 overall at the least he’s gonna be like a 74 overall and 88 potential , generational are 18 yr old 99 potential and there’s plenty of C potential 70 overall players mid round too , also don the pitcher might be generational pitcher they’re 18 and have like 96 potential as a max like he does
"All the while, I'm using a team that I'm not sure could win the Triple A championship."
😂😂
If you keep Aledmys Diaz I think he'll lead the team with 86 RBI. Loving the new series!
Love the quicker games. Having a whole game play out every episode could get a bit tedious especially with a bad team. Just an FYI - when you press start, you can press triangle to see the player cards for both the current pitcher and current batter.
Also, I think sliders can help make the game more realistic. If nothing else, you should tune down SP stamina and tune up Manager Hook SP/RP. Otherwise you’ll have some players with double digit Complete Games with an incredibly unrealistic amount of Shutouts.
I feel like it'd be really cool if you did a Camden Yards/Comerica Park hybrid. Camden for it's wall in right, and some of the contours its got going on - Comerica for the extra base hit potential (that right-center/center field portion). Just a thought =) great series as always Hurriicane!
Already having a lot of fun with this series, Cane!
Thank god for canes uploads as I start the night shift with my son
The sound of the bat in contact is amazing 😊
I get the control pitchers for the safe picks, but I would think having a variety of pitching styles would velo, break, and control to give batters something to think about. plus its more fun that way, but that's just me
At first I was thinking this series would be like your Vikings franchise where you don't play at all but I'm still excited for this series and what'll come in the future
I know you like to keep ratings where they are and things sim, but Esteury Ruiz needs a way highier steal rating than 30, he stole 85 bases in the minors last year, and is projected for 40+ this year in the majors if he stays healthy
Ya he also hit like 320 doubt he does that in the majors he came up last year and hit .222 then traded to the brewers gave him 8 ABs couldn’t get a hit then traded him again I mean doubt he steals that many bases kid can’t hit in the majors really , + only 2-3 games this year as well but he’s got 1 hit maybe .
Love the highlights on the opening game , great style of content for this series
Hour + long video!!?!? Excellent.
Cane it’s not everyday you get to design your own baseball stadium, obviously do something you’re comfortable with, but I think a lot of us just want to see you go wild with something.
I think the guys i would trade away would be Seth brown, Aledmys Diaz, Blackburn, aguilar and kemp. Get some young prospects or even some cheap hitters and let them develop. Also maybe let rooker play a but more, dude has some nice pop if he can get going! Love the series!!!
Aaron Don is going to be a star! Super young and fast just needs time to develop
i like the idea of eventually DFA’ing aguilar and letting Soderstrom play first. Maybe if Jesus continues to suck and if tyler starts out strong
Let the pitcher come set!!! Accuracy will increase.
You would be a great Football Manager guy. If you like the chaos and the lack of certainty, it would be perfect.
This series has top tier potential so far
Started a franchise with the Nats and I had to start some pretty low level pitchers, most have played pretty bad but developed well. Cade Cavalli has spent some time as a starter and a long reliever. Been a rocky season but I’m most of the way through season 1 and he’s gone up 6 overall. 18:12
definitely need to bring butler up for a bit. Jace Pederson is difficult to watch as well thats gonna be a tough position to upgrade
Lawrence Butler has 27 vision. He’s not ready 😅
Hey man great job on this video ! I do have a trade suggestion for you if Ozzie alibies is having a bad season again for the braves. I think he has a friendly contract and I think someone who you could potentially build around ! Just a suggestion
Can’t wait to play this game soon injure myself at work had to get surgery on my right hand (reckon I’m right handed) so this series is gonna get me motivated till I’m fully healed
I really like this format style.
This off-season deff get Ian happ. Switch hitter can play tons of positions and only asks like 8 mil a year. Perfect As player
Absolutely love the game highlights great way to open an episode
What's up Cane! I follow your Rockies series! This is going to be a Challenge with a capital "c". I am sure you'll fix those A's!
I think that the RBI leader will be Seth Brown (if not traded) with 72, if traded it’s Ramon with 68
I don’t know if this is useful info or if you already know this but on Day 1 of a new save for future reference if you go to Free agents and scroll through all the positions you can find some good C-A potential players in the 18-24 age range.
Great content, looked forward to my lunch break once I saw this was out
hour and 14 minutes? i love you cane
also, i think you should look into updating certain stats. cause if im not mistaken eustry had around 70 stolen bases last year. 30 is just not close. but not tryna tell you how to do your series. still going to watch religiously
I have a theory that when a pitcher doesn't come set they become less accurate. Not sure if that is true I need to do some testing.
Yes definitely like seeing the highlights man
lol
Dude has "6" speed...
my word...
If you don’t trade him, Seth Brown with 58 RBIs
Do the PNC Park model for your stadium it is so pretty
I don’t want to back seat game lol, but I think it might be a good idea to trade anyone who is decent and is 28 and up. They will not be playing big parts in the future, might as well get something in return while they still have value.
Perfect timing for me as I prepare tacos for tonight. Thanks cane!
this series will make your alt channel your most popular
Paul blackburn was an all star cuz he was actually shredding teams in the first half, then got raked in the second
Let’s go loving this series so far!
Willis Baker looks like he’s on the heavy stuff in the thumbnail
I'm hoping to maybe learn how to do a franchise mode, since I'm wanting to do one, but I can't really figure out the scouting and stuff in MLB The Show 19, I probably need to look into it more, but regardless, I've been really enjoying this series, I kinda fell out of the rockies series a bit, but I think the As are def gonna keep my attention.
Great Series you got cooking
Can you make a video just on scouting/free agency idk if you really do how to videos I’m new to channel and this series love the content!
For the park idea, why not have the field be a tad bit bigger than most current fields, with a lower wall in center or something like that
I like the longer style vids keep up the great work
I don’t know if it’s an option, but i’d love to just watch a once off where your team play a CPU game with your commentary, because you’re actually better at it than some TV announcers
Really enjoying this series cane
This series is 🔥🔥🔥
Oh? Wins? Let's go!
Really glad this series is doing so well, been watching you for 10+ years but cannot get behind any of your madden series this year and I feel awful bout it lol.
Paul Blackburn is a keeper !
make sure you let your pitcher come set before you throw the pitch
Love love love this series
Hey man, great videos keep it up
I think the leader will have 73 RBI, and good video man
you should have someone just scout position of SP by region because if there are 20 guys in that region at 90 efficiency you will get 15% scouting on all of them. i have had up to 29 SP in one region before
Hoping for Poirier in the draft. That catcher's mitt of a mug needs to be the face of the franchise.
I love the variety..Keep it coming, hope you don’t go sim heavy, your like 5th page I’m trying out lol
seems like most people want heavier sim because his other franchise didn't make too much progress, but welcome! Hope you stick around
Love to see some streams for this series
