Absolutely entrancing. This captures the original piece so well, but also adds so much depth to it. Gorgeous instrumentation and arrangement. This is the best version of this piece I have ever heard. I really loved the video as well! I could listen to this forever.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked how it turned out! There are a lot of versions of this song out there to compete with, and I think most people probably already have a favorite version of this one, but hopefully a few people give this one a chance!
This is possibly my favorite VGM track of all time! It really benefits from your insane ability to play so many instruments! The attention to detail is stunning, you even have that bass slidy sound! This is wonderful!!!
Mine too! I've listened to it so many times over the years and it always brings me peace and a sense of nostalgia. I've also listened to I don't know how many covers of it, and this one is special. I can understand why Shea was nervous to cover it, but she absolutely did it justice. The instruments capture and expand upon every feeling in the original. Thanks so much for this moving arrangement.
This was a true experience. Your talent for multi-instrumentalism and arrangement is second to none. I can honestly say I left this with a renewed passion for music. Amazing cover!
Thanks so much Luke! I don't own a harp yet, and even if I did I think I'd have wanted to make it enough different from the version that you published a few months back. I thought the kalimba filled the role really well. Thanks for listening!
MCPBlackheart sent me! Oh my gosh what a gorgeous cover of what is most likely my favorite video game song of all time!! The erhu and mandolin are such a wonderful addition to this incredible song! The improv sections were absolutely chefs kiss :D Wonderful job!
Kolimba is a very nice start! The classic bass line is always welcome. Your music is showing me that erhu can often fill in for winds as well as strings! I'm loving the mandolin and cello as well! The harmonies are getting more pretty as it goes. The piano sounds gorgeous! And I love the improv section in the middle (I was expecting it to be right there, and it was haha). The mandolin duet near the end, followed by the arpeggios on the string sound gorgeous as well. But the way you finished it is the most gracefully and lovely part of all.
Thanks so much Rebecca! I'm using noire for my piano sounds lately, and it's been fantastic. I think my favorite part of the erhu is that it has such a different texture from violin but with so much of the expressive capability of strings. I'm glad you liked it!
Thanks CR! It's quite a pile at this point, but I try to play them all and keep them easily accessible. Finding time to practice them all is the real challenge.
The Kalimba sounded awesome for the intro and I love the erhu for the melody, great job! Really impressive how you've recorded all the instruments (and did it very well) instead of MIDI programming them too - that itself is a huge feat
Thank you so, so much! There are so many things that had to come together to make this cover possible, and I wouldn't have been able to make this version any sooner than I did, so I'm glad I waited until now. I'm glad you loved it!
i've been waiting patiently for this one! it's my favorite video game music track, and it rarely ever gets arranged with bowed string instruments. i felt your choice of erhu and kalimba were particularly perfect fits, and i especially loved the improvisational bit at 2:15 and the leading harmonies you layered for the buildup at 3:31. it all came together wonderfully, thank you for making this! 🥰
Thank you so much!! I'm glad the instrumentation worked out! It seems like this collection of instruments isn't necessarily something that people go looking for, but I think it works really well!
I really enjoy hearing all of your covers, but something about this one hits so strongly. The erhu and cello sound so smooth and beautiful in this piece. Amazing work as always!
I'm so glad! This one is really special to me, and I've been looking forward to eventually covering it ever since I started making covers. I had to wait until I was better at doing the production to start it, though!
Shea's band of one. It's amazing to see you play so many instruments so masterfully. I loved this arrangement, true to the original but with such interesting instrument choices.
Thanks so much! There is so much about this song that I didn't want to change because it was so perfect in the original, so I tried to put more of the creativity toward instrument choices on this one. I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you Thomas! I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this week with a new video, but I will do my best. This next one is so big too. I have a couple with footage that are a little older that I could maybe do a mix and video for instead, I guess I'll see when it gets closer to my (self-imposed) deadline ;)
@@SheaViolinI have massive respect for you outputting great pieces every week! Still, certain projects require that extra bit of time to lovingly craft. Corridors of Time (New Game+) feels like an important milestone in your journey; so if it takes longer, it takes longer. This Chrono album will be superb!
one of my favorite songs from this game, I have heard so many people cover it like way too many people all whom are really talented, my favorite version has to be from an australian jazz band called the consouls, they called their friends to collab with them they being a string quartet and between the 9 of them played one of the most wonderful versions of this song I have heard and you have somehow matched them by yourself with all these instruments! I am astounded! well done!
Back after the stream. The secret of the forest is that making music is A LOT of work! And the payoff is that every instrument, every note, comes together in this perfect remix!
Thank you so much Thomas! My brain feels a little fried after all the work last week to get this one, but I'm so glad that everyone is enjoying it so much!
Thank you! I think that if Yasunori Mitsuda had real instruments when composing this piece, he might have used the erhu for the lead. It's just so perfect for that role.
Yeah it's amazing! I recognised the sound from my Aerophone actually, it get's close to the real thing apparently. I play saxophone by the way and I take a Lot of inspiration from Yasunori, have been practicing to Corridors of Time a lot. The Patrick Bartley versions too, ofcourse😁

If I ever replay the game, I'll make sure to replace the OST with your covers 👌 (annoyingly starts to point out that Singing Mountain still needs a cover from Shea)
Mayyyybe I could do it for this next week? It's not a terribly hard or long song to do. I need something that's a little lighter than one of the heavy hitters like Secret of the Forest and Corridors of time so that I don't completely burn myself out.
@@SheaViolin I'd appreciate it, but it's up to you! :) It's one of my favourite tunes of the Chrono series although it was not even used within the game. However, it's very important that you take care of yourself, no one wants a burnt out Shea 😊
