I like the idea of the "sidekick" spinning mop shown at 4:45 in the video to get really close to the edge. At the same time, I keep wondering whether the size of that thing might be limiting before it gets filled up and is ineffective - especially say if I have really long run along a straight wall 55-60ft long and then turn 90 degrees for another straight wall around 30 ft long? And this is even before it moves to going back/forth on the main open floor with the main mop / vacuum. As always, keep up the great work. 👍
Hi Reed, I just bought this model after watching your review and also because you said it supports Matter. I can't find any information about Matter on the Roborock website or in the app, thoughts? @smarthomesolver
Do yourself a favor and don’t buy their shit. Bought top of the line Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, supposedly their flagship top of the line product for $1800. It started having a problem prior to 30 days going by, by 3 months it is just a big POS brick sitting in my house. Does not function. The mop cleaning and dirty water recovery is bad design with shit pump. Call customer service and find yourself talking to a contract company in the Philippines. These guys do NOT know shit about these machines. They will listen and hang up on you and 15 minutes after later send you RUclips video you have already watched trying to fix it. Their advance support will supposedly call you back in 24 hrs, they are in another country. THEY WILL NOT CALL YOU BACK. Still waiting for a call and it has been five days. Their supervisors are in CHINA and they know it is a SHIT product so they will not TAKE OR RETURN phone calls. They sent me an email telling me to ship it back and they would replace it. No shipping information has been given, and I am under the impression $1800 isn’t enough for them to pay to ship it back. Even if I was willing to PAY to ship it to them, THEY GAVE NO INFORMATION on where to ship it to. And as sketchy as they have been I suspect I pay to ship it and will NEVER SEE THE REPLACEMENT. Wrote a one star review outlining everything on Amazon. To get me to remove the review they offered a full refund. That is what they offered a FULL REFUND. It didn’t say I had to ship it back, just reply full refund and they would give me a full refund. I responded back I wanted the full refund. 20 minutes later they immediately reneged. Amazon won’t replace after 30 days because they know they are a POS that break rather quickly. So do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. I am out $1800, I hope I save someone the trouble of having this problem

However, the Shock RV2502AE, which is on the main floor, cannot keep up with the hair of our German Shepherd. The Roborock does not have any issues and keeps our floors spotless.

@ChronometerCheck Hey, do you think you could review or take a look at the “Magnus Bayer XM”? I’m interested in it, but I can’t find information on it.
Still dragging the dirty mop pad around....v.s Eufy S10 , it actually mops and clean pad at the same time....pretty awesome unique feature...one of its kind!
i have a question for you. i never have had a robot vaccum, thinking about it, but the only thing that block me from pursuing is.... in 7-8-9 years at least, how is this robot going to behave ? same as? still as good ? they can have my money if it stands but if they don't live for as long i can't commit to that..
I have a Roborock S7, which I'm still happy with, but the wiping performance could be better. So I am surprised that Roborock hasn't installed rotating mops in its new top model. (apart from the mini sidekick mop) In numerous tests, vacuum robots with rotating mops have shown better mopping performance than those with vibrating mops. In terms of concept, it also seems understandable to me that a rotating movement is more effective than vibration, apart from the fact that side-rotating pads can reach corners better than a centrally mounted vibrating pad. Even Roborock has installed two rotating mopping pads in their Q Revo model, and the mopping performance is top-notch there too. On the Dreame L20 Ultra, one of the two rotating mopping pads can even extend thanks to the pivoting arm, allowing for more thorough cleaning right up to the edge of walls. The ECOVACS X1 Omni also shows better mopping performance in tests with its rotating mops than models with vibrating mops. What do you think about the question of whether rotating mops wouldn't be better?
Great video, my brother got one too for review but he has been on vacation. Could not wait to see an actual video from somebody using it. From what I’ve seen, I have the S7 ultramax v and they say up to $800? Not sure what the up to means maybe condition or does it completely work with no problems?
future of moping is not in spreading existing dirt with water on the flor , but to actually collect and clean the mop brush on the go. I guess like the EUFY S1 PRO. But i really prefer navigation and logic of roborock. But Every time I miss the total width of robot for both brushes,.. for dry suction and for moping. So less moves is necessary to do. Dyson is pushing for the widest brush as possible and same should be for moping like it has that EUFY S1. The wider the better and not having just small brush between two wheels.
Then don’t watch? This guy makes other video too you know? I don’t understand the point of these pointless comments. But does it still get lost / get stuck in the never ending circle of death dance on any carpet with a design on it? I have a throw carpet I can't have it vacuum because of this ( I have S7)
It would be really cool if they had made a software update where the base scrubs the mop pad and the vacuum vibrate its mop so it’s like a double clean
I really appreciate the review from the perspective of someone with kids. Gonna order this bad boy today but I need to check if it can go over small obstacles (the frame under our dining chairs).

It's funny to watch all of this. When iRobot was on top they wanted $800ish and that seemed absurd. Then once RoboRock got enough marketshare via iRobot sleeping at the wheel, they reset the market price to an even a more absurd level above and continue to raise it .. it wasn't that long ago when the S5 was launched at around $600. I've used many of these things, they are extremely useful, but not $1800 useful. I always recommend to buy last year's model or go for a store return which usually sell for about 33% of the MSRP.
Currently rocking a S5 Max and it's still going strong, but I really miss some out of the box compatibility with Home Assistant. I really miss not being able to use "room-cleaning" from HA. Unless this model supports that out of the box I can see any reason to stay on roborock.
You are buying a robot, that ain't gonna be cheap. Not just any robot vacuum, but one with many moving parts. I think that price is justified. Their Q Revo is a steal for the amount of value you get for that.
Problem is Roborock customer support is absolutely horrible from overseas. I wouldn’t buy anything from them again. Mine continues scratch against my walls in my brand new house and they basically wouldn’t help solve the problem whatsoever. Straight to the trash is where I put my Ultra 7
I'm disappointed by the reliance on sponsored content. There are more integrity-driven ways to monetize your work, and it's disheartening to see a departure from your original values. Regardless of the rationale, sponsored or complimentary products inevitably present a significant and inescapable conflict of interest, which ultimately does not serve the consumer's best interests, even when fully disclosed.
How is it possible that the mop is washed with 60 degree hot water, but when you then feel the water that has just been pumped out, it is cold. You'd say it should be somewhat warm, right?
I think it should be available at the same time. Roborock said they were still working on the documentation on how to connect that new dock so that's why they held off on sending it over to try out.
Thanks Reed. There is usually a connect up hose to the washer that you can put a tee on for a water supply to the base station. Mine has a tee to the steamer option on the dryer. Hopefully, the waste pipe can go into the drain for the washer.
I'm unsure between this and the new Dreame X40 Ultra. After years of waiting, I will buy my first robot vacuum cleaner. I'm being careful and I'm still waiting for the reviews for these two models now.
So our old Roomba just got destroyed after our dog had a... happy little accident... I'm talking full on poop smearing all up in the rollers and dust bin compartment. It sounds like the S8 does well against object collision, but how does it do for fecal avoidance?
It looks like the same problem I have with S7 MaxV Ultra, is going to be on this new vacuum. I never refill the water tank on the vacuum on my own, because it auto fills it, but today, I was looking at the cashback offer, and cleaning it up for pictures, and there is brown build-up or mold/mildew in the tank! So I have been cleaning my floors with dirty water! gross! I have found the same brown mildew in my clean water tank too, but Today is the first time I even looked at the vacuum's water tank. Please come out with a better solution to add to the Roborock products! It says you are only allowed to use Roborock cleaning solution, so now I don't know what to do!
It does look great. Wonder how cloud dependent it is, I'm guessing "very"? That plus the camera really puts a damper on the joy, to say nothing of the $2 grand. I'd also really prefer if the mop was two rotating discs rather than the pad but I guess that's a nitpick.
It depends, cleaners typically charge 120-200$ depending every 2-3 weeks and of course they clean everything.. but this level of cleaning is something i never even imagined 4-5 years ago.. we’ve come a long way
I bought the S7 Max V Ultra because the integrated mopping feature sounded good. Unfortunately, the mop pad wouldn't stay attached and folded over on itself. It didn't raise up enough to clear the rug, either. The S8 sounds like it has great features, but I'm still suspicious of that mop pad. The S7 cost about $1500, so I'm not eager to take a chance again.
At this point the important thing I care about is, CAN this work completely offline ? And does it have any hidden subscription model ? If it cannot work Offline or Needs subscription for any features, then I AM OUT. Cannot allow a literal CAMERA roaming in my house if that is connected to the Internet. and Cannot allow another subscription based service either. I have personally started my Home Server and made sure everything works offline including Cameras (only goes online when requested for remote access) I also liked 8 Sleep Pod, but cause of the ridiculous subscription I didn't get it.
@@investmentanalyst779 no there isnt, you can buy reusable bags, fluid is optional, pads on ali are like 10 bucks for 5 which last 1 or 2 years, if you spend 1k+ on a ROBOT which is totally a luxury item and you worry about 10-20 bucks a year then maybe go back to regular bucket and mop cleaning.
What’s more telling in these ads is what’s not mentioned. Like how the mapping in the s7 is junk, always adding nonexistent rooms, seeing through walls, moving the dock on the map. I’m assuming that’s still broken otherwise your script would say it’s fixed
Very impressive indeed, but Dreame X40 Ultra is better for sure. It can do everything this one can plus X40 can mop under low furniture and mop corners. It can lift the mop or leave them at the dock by itself which is good if you have a thicker carpet. The X40 dock can clean itself, unlike this one's dock.
Strongly recommend against anything Dreame at the moment. The vacuum performs well (mostly) but their support/repair/warranty infrastructure is basically non-existent. If you want after purchase support, steer away from Dreame.
Roborock is the best when it comes to robot vacuums, also I tend to think Dreame feels a little more "plastic" when it comes to quality but idk if its me also if you compare the app for them the roborock gets the win no lagg at all and everything is so easy to navigate
I’m worried about how high it is. It doesn’t look like it can get under furniture. My Roomba S9 gets under almost everything- not the lasyboy. But I’m jonesing for it.
This is a really cool product, and I want it! But for $1,800 I should really get the option for local-only control. Unfortunately it appears cloud connection is required for this vacuum to work. Major bummer.
Dreame is so much better though. I'm Asian Asian so mopping is vital. You can set it to dock and clean the mop a couple of times for each room instead of dragging a dirty mop back and forth from start to finish. That literally emulates what Asians Asians do. Also, their handheld vacuum mop is also super amazing for spot cleaning.

It's crazy that something that should be able to vacuum to a insane price of almost $2.000 is so bad. The hype is real with this one.
My S8 Ultra supports room-cleaning out of the box. No need for HA (which I also use).
roborock s8 maxv ultra or dreame x40 ultra? Which product is better? For a floor full of hair and for a thorough wash?
If I can get a good trade-in for my S7 maxv ultra I’ll definitely upgrade!
This truly is the future. Next it will go out clean your yard and mow your lawn.
They have those already, lawn care companies offer as a subscription too
Roborock just never stops to surprise..... with the price!!! Thats really getting out of hands there!!
What is that small lamp behind you?
It's a Sonos IKEA lamp with a smart LIFX candle bulb inside that can do multiple colors at once.
@@SmartHomeSolver Thank you!
Would be interesting to see “tell roborock to bring me coffee” etc lol
How is it possible that the mop is washed with 60 degree hot water, but when you then feel the water that has just been pumped out, it is cold. You'd say it should be somewhat warm, right?
That was surprisingly lower cost than I thought it would be!
No Luna test? Will the plumbed in version be available at the same time? Want to not have a tank of stinky water in the Laundry room.
P.s. did you see Rob's comparison review yesterday?
I'm unsure between this and the new Dreame X40 Ultra.
After years of waiting, I will buy my first robot vacuum cleaner. I'm being careful and I'm still waiting for the reviews for these two models now.
So our old Roomba just got destroyed after our dog had a... happy little accident... I'm talking full on poop smearing all up in the rollers and dust bin compartment.
It sounds like the S8 does well against object collision, but how does it do for fecal avoidance?
people are always saying how these types of robot vacuums are from the future like the 3,000's, when WE ARE ALREADY IN THE FUTURE!
Is it better than the dream l30?
Trade in option + black Friday deal = great deal
It depends, cleaners typically charge 120-200$ depending every 2-3 weeks and of course they clean everything.. but this level of cleaning is something i never even imagined 4-5 years ago.. we’ve come a long way
These robot vacuum cleaners are sponsoring everybody...
I have personally started my Home Server and made sure everything works offline including Cameras (only goes online when requested for remote access)
I also liked 8 Sleep Pod, but cause of the ridiculous subscription I didn't get it.
no subscription, and doesnt work offline unless you root it
OF COURSE THERE'S A SUBSCRIPTION! How else are you going to maintain it? Bags, mop fluid, pads, etc. All add up.
Did you mean 20 mm lift clearance?
any idea how it does with pets that shed a lot?
With Voice commands, can you interchange between vacuuming and mopping modes? 😁
Agreed. This is very frustrating that you cannot voice command the sweeper to sweep only (no mopping).
Roborock is the best when it comes to robot vacuums, also I tend to think Dreame feels a little more "plastic" when it comes to quality but idk if its me also if you compare the app for them the roborock gets the win no lagg at all and everything is so easy to navigate
and this compared w the new eufy?
How does it connect to the plumbing though
Just like the washing machine’s drain
I think it’s time for a match between this one and the ecovacs Deebot X2.
Thanks Reed.
Anyone know how it cleans on glossy tiles, would it leave streaks?
I’m worried about how high it is. It doesn’t look like it can get under furniture. My Roomba S9 gets under almost everything- not the lasyboy. But I’m jonesing for it.
High is 10.3 cm
Do you know if the cheaper version "S8 Max Ultra" has the camera?
No, the cheaper non-MaxV doesn’t have a color camera or remote control ability.
did you even watch the video, there's your answer
How can I purchase this from the UK?
The most biased review on YT, must have been a hefty check they wrote for you.
Yes i want one. Im going to wait for November Blsck Friday to hopefully get a discount.
This is a really cool product, and I want it! But for $1,800 I should really get the option for local-only control. Unfortunately it appears cloud connection is required for this vacuum to work. Major bummer.
S7MaxV owner here. If the tiles have 0.1mm height difference the tile scrubs the mop and the dirt gathers between. :(
Dreame is so much better though.
