That is not true. I'm a lifelong Hockey fan, and it is NOT encouraged for Fans, or even the Players. It is allowed amongst the Players because it's regulated by the League, but they have been trying to get it out of the Game for years. J O was legit. Outstanding player in those early 00s. While not everyone gets to win a ring; the fact that the Malice blighted some extremely bright NBA careers is really sad. It ended Reggie, handcuffed Jermaine and permanently tarnished Jackson and Artest. Defensive powerhouse of a team even compared to the 04 Pistons.

He had a chance to win a championship he just was on the right teams at the wrong time. Don’t take nothing away from his game for me dude was a monster.
Born and raised in Indiana 260 area, and grew up a big Pacers fan. Jermaine to me is one of my favorite all time players and think hes extremely underrated and just wasnt used right on a business level. I still rock my yellow O'Neal hardwood classic Jersey!
I've been in support of them & I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. People have to think about in this regard, take everything basketball away. To throw a drink on someone is disrespectful. Jermaine, Stak & Artest shouldn't have been the only ones held accountable.
Let me preface this by first saying that fan, John Green, should be left in a room alone with Artest for at least 5 mins and get the beat down he deserves. He is an absolute scumbag and didn’t get nearly enough punishment… with that said, I think you’re looking at the whole thing with too much ‘hindsight 20/20’ because the actual results weren’t too bad in regards to who got physically harmed when it was all said and done. The potential for serious damage to multiple people was very very high though. I was at the game safely on the other side of the court and saw it all. There were women and children in the area. Let me give you a scenario; Artest runs up in the stands and knocks a random kid over. Jackson follows and accidentally tramples that kid. The kid’s dad looks in horror, freaks out n pulls out a knife (or keys or whatever) and starts stabbing Jackson. Maybe Jackson never plays again or worse, dies. Now there’s 2 deaths resulting from them going into the stands. I feel like the perception would be a lot different in that scenario. They were not thugs and I totally understand why they went up there but I also understand why the punishment was so harsh. You absolutely can NOT go into the stands fighting people especially when you don’t even know who you’re looking for. Artest literally ran right by the guy that actually threw the cup. All the other fans got involved because they were hitting innocent people. That’s my vibe toward it all. The potential for much worse was very much there
I like how they both kept it real and tell it how it is. Sad fact is some fans still will do stupid things like the kid who poured the popcorn on Russell Westbrook and think that NBA players are invincible just because they make a lot of money and don't have feelings. That's exactly what kicked this brawl off and they had to learn the hard way
Yeah, he did. Both Stephen Jackson and Reggie Miller have confirmed this numerous times. As I recall, Stephen Jackson mentioned it on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” as well as “The Dan LeBatard Show,” and Reggie mentioned it on “The Dan Patrick Show.”
I love these dudes for doing what they did. Fck everything they showed loyalty for each other. U can't buy that or learn that, ur born this way. Yall have the respect from all of us who ran the streets. Stick together ‼️
Always felt bad for him cuz he so underrated and on top of that the malice at the palace ruined his reputation but he still lasted a long time in the league 🤷
With all do respect they ran into the stands and fought fans. You can’t compare that to a hockey fight or charging the mound. Once bystanders get attacked it should obviously be considered a crime. I know this is an unpopular opinion
Literally the definition of play stupid games, win stupid prizes the Malice at the Palice. Shitty crowd all night and then throwing a cup at RON ARTEST. If you ain’t someone like Ben Wallace then you don’t pick a fight with Ron Artest, it’s simple. Nevermind a whole team of giant guys built like houses who come from next to nothing. May be sick but when Ron and Steve were in the stands it was one of the best moments of loyalty you can show. Steve watches Ron go in and doesn’t think just backs him against 20,000 people. That takes guts. JO got best punch of the night though, that boy should be in a museum.
great video, so happy to see this and just intelligent conversation about the incident....because from the very moment it happened, i was like what is the big deal, if people assault you, don't you have the right to defend yourself, granted the "so called victim's" in this case happened to be averaged size, mostly people of non-color(sorry if i could have used a better word) who night in and night out get a little inebriated and say things that they wouldn't get away with in any other environment and this time they got what they wanted....it was one of the most justified and exciting incidents to occur in sports
I remember when it all went down. Detroit fans were being typical Detroit fans. They had a lil dust up on the court between Ron and Ben and Ron was chillin on the scorers table while they were figuring everything out when the drinks hit him. He got this look on his face and there was no stopping him then. He was going in the damn stands. He went up there and threw some hands. Jack was wildin out handling his business then I remember on the floor Jermaine came sliding in on his knees and straight up blasted somebodys ass. It was crazy! It was AWESOME!
Y’all sound crazy about not comparing hockey & baseball….basketball from my knowledge is the only sport where there is NO barrier from the fans and the players. How you think J.O knocked that fool out?! he literally walked onto the court….if someone throws something at you on the street, spits on your etc that is considered assault and yet some of you are saying he gotta keep his cool and the players were wrong
Throwing liquids or spitting on someone is considered the lowest forms of insults you can do to a person in other countries and cultures. Not to mention it's considered physical assault and battery here in the U.S.
i agree all started over punk move by ron, followed by another punk move by ron to not step to Body. if he would have just fought Ben the rest never happens. then the penultimate punk move, react like he should have to Ben to a civilian. bottom line Ben bullied the bully; the bully laid down then bullied someone else
I have asked the same question too!! This wasn't a do or die game, it was still the first part of the season so the starters on both teams should have been on the bench!!!
@@chitwn so have I. If you are thrown off by JO and VC being someone’s two favorite players in the 00s, idk what to tell you. Those are two of the 15 best players the first half of the decade.
I remember that fight. There’s was nothing on tv and I really didn’t want to watch Detroit vs Indiana but there was nothing else then boom! Shit went down lol
I hate to admit that as a black man they even did a number on me with calling people thugs...it's refreshing to see who these guys are, like Stephen Jackson had never been in trouble before the malice and to see them all doing well.
As a pistons fan, how the fans treated the pacers that day was just horrible. Pistons fans (not all of them of course) left a black mark on the league and stopped to the lowest of lows. Yeah the pacers could’ve been a bit more composed but when emotions are that high, ultimately it was the fans who made it much worse than it should’ve been. Hopefully the pacers players involved can forgive the pistons fans and I hope the pistons fans realize how much damage they did to the image of the league and what they cost those players.
I’m a Pacers fan, have been from before JO’s career, I hope this turns out well for him, unfortunately he is still missing the point, the Pacers put up with a lot from that team and the real deal was them shooting up a local bar in Indy after the Malice, the Pacers as an organization tried to give them all passes and didn’t get tough until the Pacers fans stopped coming in protest against the team, but not until after the shooting, which is hard to believe. Payton Manning was getting along with the Colts at that time too, so it happened quickly, they lost the city from that moment the team embarrassed the community, and the NBA so lopsidedly favored the Pistons, and the Pistons acted like sore losers period.
I must be too hood, cause that fight in the palace was one of the greatest moments in sports EVER to me💯

@@johnbrowntheprophet I gave the man a compliment. Never said I was surprised by the fact.
@@haydengnichols1275 - Whenever someone acts surprised or comments that a black man can be intelligent and can articulate himself, that’s really a backhanded slap at other black people. I’m asking you to understand that. If you don’t understand what I mean, just look up Chris Rock’s old comedyy routine about Colin Powell being “so well spoken” on RUclips.

Oh this is gonna be epic. He didn’t hold back words on Ron Ron back in the day
Saw his interview with Dan LeBetard. Jermaine didn't get the mental health issues Ron was dealing with back in the day. He just didn't understand the level of help and care Ron needed and was getting. We have all come a long way in understanding and recognizing the care needed for mental health.
That white boy who threw that a cup of beer on Ron artest when Ron was on the scorers table, is the person who sparked of all of it!!!
And he was basically just laughing on the incident. he is a POS
@@Hajinrei it's funny how that don't get brought up too much either! all the players involved had to take the blame for everything that HAPPENED!

I know, right? They're twins.

They're also alike in mental toughness. (That wasn't a compliment.)

Watched the Malice live I’ve never seen anything as surreal since… I mean just couldn’t believe my eyes
My basketball team was out eating dinner after a game at a decent sized restaurant/bar that night. The game was on the big TV at the bar and literally the whole place stopped eating and went quite and was watching what happened. Unreal.
I still have it on VHS tape.
I watched the movie yesterday And he explained a lot of things. He was right when he said you should watch the incident every frame from different angles... And you be the Judge
He had a chance to win a championship he just was on the right teams at the wrong time. Don’t take nothing away from his game for me dude was a monster.
I was at the game on Christmas Day in Indy, first game since the Brawl against Detroit and JO being reinstated. That environment was lit that day.
Have they released this full interview, J O'Neal was my favorite player when on the pavers, he was a beast in that paint
Born and raised in Indiana 260 area, and grew up a big Pacers fan. Jermaine to me is one of my favorite all time players and think hes extremely underrated and just wasnt used right on a business level. I still rock my yellow O'Neal hardwood classic Jersey!
J.O. was my favorite player for the longest. He was a beast back in the day
I've been in support of them & I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.
That's exactly what kicked this brawl off and they had to learn the hard way
Did Artest really ask "Do you think we'll get in trouble?" While back in the locker room after the brawl.
Yeah, he did. Then JO went after him. Jack had to step in to keep JO off of his ass.
That question should let you know how mentally unhinged Ron was. Too bad mental health issues was stigmatized back then, especially for black people.
I love these dudes for doing what they did. Fck everything they showed loyalty for each other. U can't buy that or learn that, ur born this way. Yall have the respect from all of us who ran the streets. Stick together ‼️

With all do respect they ran into the stands and fought fans. You can’t compare that to a hockey fight or charging the mound. Once bystanders get attacked it should obviously be considered a crime. I know this is an unpopular opinion
It's my first time seeing Jermaine without headband.
When this episode airs??? 👀👀👀👀🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Jermain the truth, I was a big Reggie fan, and that year I was so devastated, that was going to be Reggies ring no doubt.

I’ll never forget the malice it was my first few months as a basketball fan I was 10 yrs old I was “ oh shit 😳 it goes down in the nba “ 😂😂
Saddest part is Indy missed out on that championship this particular year, they were poised to win it all.
Jermaine's a cool dude, he shouldn't have fouled kobe at the end of that 2003 all star game. Jordan would have had a great send off.
Things happen. Jordan still had a great send off in his last season with the Wizards.
Exactly
The Pacers were going to win that year too.
Jordan would of won mvp
Lmao let that shit go man 😂
I remember when it all went down.
Oh man! I've of my favorite PF of all-time. Can't wait to watch this one.
He always reminded me of Wanya from Boyz 2 Men
😂😂😂😂 Yup
I love to see Ben wallace and Ron to have a one on one conversation like magic and Isaiah did.. it need to happen..
I witnessed this live on TV, backed then i blamed Artest..... I was die hard for that Detroit team.
I remember watching it live too. It was unbelievable.
i agree all started over punk move by ron, followed by another punk move by ron to not step to Body. if he would have just fought Ben the rest never happens.
then the penultimate punk move, react like he should have to Ben to a civilian.
bottom line Ben bullied the bully; the bully laid down then bullied someone else
Here is the million dollars question? Why were starters still in the game with less then a minute to go in the fourth quarter with a 15pts lead?
I have asked the same question too!! This wasn't a do or die game, it was still the first part of the season so the starters on both teams should have been on the bench!!!

Hopefully the pacers players involved can forgive the pistons fans and I hope the pistons fans realize how much damage they did to the image of the league and what they cost those players.

missing the point, the Pacers put up with a lot from that team and the real deal was them shooting up a local bar in Indy after the Malice, the Pacers as an organization tried to give them all passes and didn’t get tough until the Pacers fans stopped coming in protest against the team, but not until after the shooting, which is hard to believe.
Payton Manning was getting along with the Colts at that time too, so it happened quickly, they lost the city from that moment the team embarrassed the community, and the NBA so lopsidedly favored the Pistons, and the Pistons acted like sore losers period.
