Love that he bringing up the thug stuff Shawn Kemp, Larry Johnson, Derrick Coleman and co dealt with it after dream team 2 and Gary Payton, Rod Strickland, Kenny Anderson, Isaiah Rider, Latrell Sprewell, Allen Iverson etc dealt with it too. All of them are probably bigger stars, and the ratings probably don't dip quite as heavy after Jordan leaves if the league wasn't too scared to market these "thugs"
But that was the time around that era, including the Jailblazers, where players were getting drug charges and prison time left and right. People forget about it. It was a rough time, but maybe it was slightly unfair.
@@xreed8 bro not only that. People forget because everyone pretends . Gary Payton and Ricky Davis brought guns to the back and threatened to pop each other , the jail blazers , the crazy amount of rape charges from Chauncey billups to Kobe . The Washington wizards with Gilbert arenas . Also this was a time in the league where the players are talking mad trash . Op mentioned Payton , my father was at a game for work where someone in the front row said something and gp talked about his lady for the rest of the game . She didn’t say anything and she ended up leaving and gp ended up saying stuff like she left early to get ready to be at my hotel tonight . With a bunch of expletives , yes this fight blew the cover off but it was coming . I mean the biggest name at the time was iverson and he had the rape charge and the abuse towards his wife at the time
@@kevinkohoutek995 you're thinking of Ricky Pierce but also George Karl was the one who claimed they had guns and admitted he was never even in the room. I have no doubts they may have threatened each other but I highly doubt they actually had guns and the threats were anything real as Payton and Pierce still speak fondly of their time together today. The media regularly exaggerated and same with George Karl who clearly didn't understand his team and how they communicated anyways. And other than that and the fact that I think Marijuana charges are silly I also think the league unfairly punished players who were darker and more outspoken. When Sabonis and his wife were racking up more DUI's than anyone on the jailblazers he was viewed as a funny European foreigner while the rest of the team were thugs. And Jason Kidd was always viewed as a good leader because he was a quiet dude who passed a lot while he was racking up his own DUI's and domestic violence charges with his wife. What he did was way worse than Payton being lewd and rude in your story, but Payton was vilified while Kidd was the example of a good person and teammate at the point. I do actually agree that era was lousy with rape charges but the guys who were in those cases are some of the players commended for their work ethic and leadership to this day, like Sam Cassell, Chauncey Billups and if you watch the Kobe Bryant games from 04 they are showering him with compliments and lamenting about how the talented young man might lose his freedom and what a shame it is. And I think that right there shows that most of the players I mentioned were unfairly treated like thugs while players who were actually committing violent crimes weren't treated as harshly as a bunch of street players who were making white people uncomfortable. I'm not saying they weren't above criticism entirely but I think David Stern was so afraid to lose money that he sold his players out and tried to make examples out of the wrong players.
@@pman8478 no 100% but you have to look at the business side . I love GP , I’ve been to Shawn kemp’s weed shop , I’m in the 206 . GP to this day will talk crazy shit to anyone . When you have players who are so loud and outspoken , when the media is showing what the players are doing . And when the pacers start fighting fans , who didn’t even throw the beer . Things are gonna change

(5) I had no idea everything Ron was going through and I respect how much he actually owned up to - and the way J’O took a step back and grew as well.
As a Warrior fan I remember Jermaine being really solid for that team. He was the perfect stretch big to play with Steph, Klay, Dray and come off the bench. The Warriors added a lot of vets over the next few years like Barbosa, Livingston, David West, etc. Wish Jermaine could’ve stayed and been a part of that run. He still had a great career and I’m sure passed on a lot of wisdom to that core.

Mannnnnn I just watched it imma real ass nigga n I shed tears, that boi said he was a coward even tho he JUST won a chip n shouted out all the ppl he let down
Y'all gotta do something crazy for the next episode. Happy Early Congrats on 100. I said it first lol 😅
I just watched the netflix series of the 'untold' documentary after this amazing interview.
It's sad to see how the players lost so much all because of one person's actions, who don't seem to care or have any compassion. What a coward.
Finally, some sense of justice.
Matt's hoodie got me dying....LMAO!!! Go show fellas...glad you put that has-been behind you.
Thank you J.O. for mentioning Hakeem "The Dream" as one of the greatest Centers of all-time!
The Netflix doc was very good. It was a well put together piece
Matt is fire 🔥 He can have a conversation and have to guest talk. But salute to J.O.
They never talk about Jermaine O’Neal in the 96 draft class. He was a bigger star in his prime than Marbury, camby, Ray Allen, kittles
Ron Artest is a hilarious character
So I’m not old enough to really remember Jeremiah but bro this guys highlights are insane. This guy was 6’11 and truly had the ability to move like a guard. Like damn he just does not seem like he is 6’11
*Jermaine
My brother's my brother's my brother's love how there giving back to our community 💯 see the growth from all three men God bless y'all! Another dope interview.
😂 That infamous sliding punch!
Awesome interview as always. Love J.O., and love you both, Matt and Stak. Just watched the doc on Netflix. Very well done. I remember the event at the Palace like it was yesterday. I always thought J.O., Stak, and Ron were right to defend yourselves, and did so honorably. Y'all got street cred for life with me.
Matt asks all the right questions ✅
These two ( Barnes, stack) are really on to something really special ! All these players show them so much respect ✊. Hopefully this is beginning of the end of main stream media and “ brain 🧠 washing “ the public.
Meet J.O. a few years ago at a AAU Tournament Coaching his DriveNation Team, Good guy, ALL THE KIDS GATHERED AROUND THERE MOM'S AND DAD'S TOLD EM THAT'S A NBA ALL STAR RIGHT THERE, J.O. IS A BIG FELLA, AND A GOOD GUY 💯
I was 15 when the brawl happened. I was watching the game when it started and to this day I have never seen anything more enjoyable on television.
Real shit. I remember watching it live and after it all went down, they just cut to SC like nothing happened. And I was like what the fuck did i just watch...And no rewind back then!
Everybody talks highly about Reggie
This Pod is the best this on screens right now
I enjoyed this interview very much! So much respect for these legends!
NBA never apologized for siding with owners/fans. We would have been champs that year. If the pacers were wrong, I’ll come and throw beer on you on Monday afternoon 😂
thank you..these fans are just "Out of Control"...and white so there's that..😔💔😄💔
That Netflix doc was incredible. Loved hearing from all the different players involved and hearing their side of what happened. Was fucked up the way the media just branded them as “thugs” and whatever other racist coded language
Much respect to J.O. 🤝
WOW! Best show yet… (1) thank god they both slipped 😂 (2) I had so much love and respect for Jack before this, and that grew about 10x (3) Mad respect for Matt’s interview skills (4) J’O is such an amazing leader and undervalued superstar player
I had to stop this show and watch the Malice at the Palace on Netflix and then return here! (5) I had no idea everything Ron was going through and I respect how much he actually owned up to - and the way J’O took a step back and grew as well.
I had 2 Jermaine O'Neal jersey's in HS and I sold them on eBay when I was broke in college .🤦🏽♂️😫 I was a huge JO fan
Even in Portland he played defense
Jermaine is such a well spoken man, you do you sir!
Proud Columbia,SC Native here... J.O. is a legend in my city. One of the best ballers to make it out the 803.
We need Jamal Tinsley ASAP
Love the Terror Squad chain Stack is rockin'. That Fat Joe interview was fire. This is also excellent.
One of the best show going my brothers, Thankyou!
