My brother actually did community service w/ Stephen since he was on probation at the same time Stephen was for the Malice at the Palace. The stadium for the Pistons is in Auburn Hills is in Oakland County (not Detroit which is in Wayne County) so if your on probation in Oakland County you do community service in a city called Pontiac where everyone in Oakland County on probation goes to a building in Pontiac on the weekends and they split people in like 15-20 people groups and put them on buses to take them to their community service jobs like cleaning parks, churches, goodwill stores, etc. My brother happened to get placed w/ Stephen and said he was a really good guy, would occasionally bum smokes from him, and would tell the craziest stories. My bro said on his last day of community service he bought steaks and drinks for everyone (including the PO's) and basically had a BBQ. He said he talked to everyone and was real down to earth. Dude gets much respect, especially now knowing what he's been through.
I remember living in Southfield watching local tv and this game was on. I couldn’t believe it (malice in the palace) was actually happening. It felt surreal. When you in the city where the event happens, you don’t quite grasp how big it was outside of the city
I stayed in Indy when Jacko played for the pacers. Ran into him hundreds of times and kicked it with him. I can confirm he is the coolest athlete I've ever met. Him and Reggie Wayne were very humble, regular guys who weren't divas Edit: Al Harrington was very cool and down to earth too
D Bag PEYTON MANNING!!!!!! He was truly an arrogant pos of shit in person. Reggie Miller was a very entitled guy who always acted like it when you seen him. And another dude who was a diva was Bob Sanders. He was a bitch
First time I caught this interview. Stephen Jackson = Loyal Friend / Loyal Team-mate. When you hear about his life in his own words and the negative things the media have tried to attach to him those things now just don't stick. New respect for this man. Wish him well.
This dude is hilarious. Had the pleasure of meeting him in Indy one night outside the stadium before a Colts game in '03. He was a really chill and funny guy.
It's a good thing there are people like Stephen Jackson in the NBA. He won't be afraid to tell you of the lowest moments of his life and still make some humor out of it
This is as real as it gets. you survive this kind of situation, you make something positive out of it then your the man, "thanks to the man upstairs". Good for you Stephen.
I love it when athletes are honest because who wouldn't want to if your getting heckled constantly people harp on atheletes I think they have more self control then the average person
@@philipdolan2191 I agree. And a lot of people in the expensive seats, close to the court, unload because they think they are untouchable. And most of the time they are. They say the foulest things, especially when they are under the influence, to get attention, to make others laugh around them and to get a reaction from the players. It takes a lot of restraint not to snap when it's constant and loud.
Too true. In the aftermath of that game, all of the talking heads on television were acting like it was the beginning of the downfall of Western civilization. Anyway, props to Stephen for getting out of Port Arthur. I lived there for a couple of years when I was a kid, and I can attest to the fact that it's a real shithole.
Man I remember seeing this live and just in amazement at his honesty. Seems like a great person. You know he appreciates life and does care about his friends and family
I feel your pain, my brother was stabbed and killed when we were young, I'm 60 yrs old now and miss him every day, I wish I could have been there to help him myself ✊🏽
This interview is exactly why you cannot judge someone based on YOUR perception of them, (starting with myself regarding this young man). Stephen Jackson is loyal, engaging, charismatic, humorous, intelligent and one heck of a basketball player in his day. I salute you sir and apologize for who/what I THOUGHT you were.
He’s the type of dude you sit back with, Put some biggie smalls on and just go through story after story after story. Loyalty is a beautiful thing and I wish it was just in everyone. To ride with those you love and to put them first is something only real people do ( Not Too Many)
Could you imagine Stacks, metta, z-bo, Ben Wallace and Perk walking into the club lmao? All jokes aside, stacks is a pretty awesome, friendly and life loving guy who has no problem brightening peoples days with a great story as well as protecting his brothers. Class act if you look past how tough he is. Sadly, a lot won’t.
I like the fact he’s called a goon but he had a gun license and instinct was to shoot in the air to attempt to cause everyone to disperse aka a warning shot, a practice that should be used by police rather than shooting the person.
I had never heard of Stephen Jackson until the documentary on netflix. What a likeable guy. A great loyal guy and funny to listen to him talk. He's a great story teller and humble as well.
I think Stephen Jackson got a bum rap here in Indiana. The fans called him a thug, but that just isn't true. They didn't really look at the facts of these incidents. Donnie Walsh, Rick Carlisle and Don Nelson all love him. The Pacers only traded him away to Golden State (and got totally screwed for years to come) because the fans were up in arms. The two incidents he was involved in were both coming to the aid of his teammates Ron Artest and Jamaal Tinsley. Everyone knows Ron Artest / Metta World Peace is extremely volatile. Jamaal Tinsley was a knucklehead who had a knack for getting into bad situations. I wouldn't describe Tinsley as a thug either, but he certainly made his share of enemies in multiple incidents. All Stephen Jackson did at Club Rio was fire a warning shot into the air...after getting hit by a car.
grigsolve Regardless of the basketball issues, Stephen Jackson had a reputation as a thug here in Indiana. The reputation was really not earned...it was because of the brawl in Detroit and the Club Rio incident, but in both cases he was trying to do the right thing. The fans forced the Pacers to make a bad trade with Golden State just to get rid of him. It set the Pacers back for years. They had to make a trade for publicity reasons, not for basketball reasons.
Daniel Dougan Not earned??... I would say running into a crowd and throwing punches in the crowd, and discharging a gun into the air potentially killing someone innocent three miles away is earning a thug rap with good reason. Also, the fact that he was charged & convicted, and still has no idea (in this interview) why it wasn't acceptable to fire a gun into the air pretty much shows he's an idiot.
grigsolve He ran into the stands in Detroit to pull Ron Artest OUT. He was trying to HELP and diffuse the situation, but then the fans went on the attack, so he had to defend himself and his teammate. Totally justified. And he fired a gun into the air as a warning because he was in very real danger. He didn't shoot anybody. Again, totally justified.
Wow, you sound like as big of idiot than him. NO, they were not justified actions, or he wouldn't of been convicted of a crime both times. That's how it works in the real world dummy. He ran into the crowd and started throwing punches. He discharged a gun into the air within the city limits. You don't do that. You shoot someone that is about to kill you, or you don't shoot at all. That's what justified means. Go back to school.
He was the player I hated most at Golden State. This coming from a Mavs fan and was in disbelief at how they lost in the first round to Golden State. This interview has changed my view on him. I couldn't have handled what he grew up with. Much respect.
I really appreciate Stephen Jackson as a man fuck basketball he's a honorable and that cant be taught nor trained. Lost my big brother 9 days i after turned 16 so I can definitely relate.
