  • Helldivers 2 is certainly doing pretty well. I mean, it wasn't for the better part of a month after it launched, but these days it's kicking ass with only a few devastating crashes that made me want to throw myself into the sea. So how does it stack up against its contemporaries? Turns out, it's doing pretty well there too.

I think Deep Rock's mining and procedurally generated mines are what really makes it stand apart from any other game.
Sure, these new games might have a higher budget, better gunplay and production value, but Deep Rock's gameplay mixing combat and calm moments of drilling and MULE's sounds is unique.

In my experience, I've almost never seen a game do it like Helldivers does. It makes you feel like you're apart of an ever growing war. Some things I find cool about Helldivers, is the dev team. Weird, i know but here me out.
Helldivers 2 development team was able to flesh out a system where you felt like you were participating in a real life galactic war. The way you die, and the way the automatons and Terminids die, feel so realistic. Not only that, but the gun sounds feel, and sound realistic as well. Helldivers also has a "Sound and smell" system, where if you make noise or are bleeding or something, they can locate you easily, which allows you to distract them with grenades too. Another thing I found cool is the way the Warbonds work. See, unlike fortnite, the Warbonds are permanent, and you don't need to purchase super credits to get them either. You find Super credits on missions pretty often if you play alot, and you can get the first warbond completed and be able to unlock the 2nd warbond by the time it's done. I also like the way they introduce their new weapons, by making it seem like we're in desperate times and Super earth government decides to release new weapons they've been working on so that we can further spread democracy. Another thing about Helldivers, is the Personal, and major orders. It gives you a clear objective as a community to complete, and I feel like as time goes on, these are only going to get better. I feel like as time goes on, this game is going to see more and more new bugs, automatons, and the faction the Illuminate eventually as well. Helldivers, all though still buggy, encountering a couple of funny bugs myself, i believe is the way to go. The missions aren't toooo unique as you play, but the way the game works always makes every drop very interesting, and different from the rest.
Thank you for reading my long paragraph!

    • @poupipou8496

Ok no, this season pass is terrible, just grinding as hell or pay to win since it contains gameplay.
Not everyone can take 100 hours to unlock warbond every month freely. I totally agree on the reload system, on higher difficulty its just anoying.
Quality of life as menus, no running is space rig, generic weapons , getting stuck in rocks while u should auto climb, the lack of visibility in aiming enemy weakpoints (why theres 2 eyepieces ? U love that much HUD in a "cinematic game" ?) unbalanced and nerfed every week, bioms all identical except for the color, no mods to adapt your gameplay (armor pen, flat dmg, recoil, reaload speed, ammo, rate of fire etc...), poor mobility (only jetpack and i feel stuck using it, cant really manage the landing, shoting mid air etc)
Mission type : theres 2 (cuz the one asking u to kill everything or get killed every 10 sec is not a mission, its garbage) defense which is cool, and explore which is cool. But thats 2. Every mission, exact same objectives no random bosses or little events. After few hours, it really feels the same.
Enemies : bestiary is pretty basic and mostly works but lacks of special ennemies that u dont encounter every games and breaking that repetitiv loop.
Finally the "storytelling" is just daily assignment, no better than candycrush in 2005 so yes its overhyped and the gameplay loop is factually not convincing for playing that much. Players have no impact on what happend in the game, whether u win or lost priority assignment, dev will no matter what move on to the next, gameplay remains the same.
And clearly its not enough to keep me around or anyone else actually. I went to steam charts and ppl are just leaving the game ; 270k ppl on feb and now 130k. With PSN bs, the overwhelming bugs and lack of content, hard to tell its ever be more than a game stuck in beta state :/
Some homework for the devs :
      Where are Illuminates ?
      Why fire oneshot u ?
Why capes and helmets do not bring bonus ?
Why your weapons are so weak ?
Why do i have to call stratagems such as bagpacks and weapons and not spawn with them since we both come from the same place ?
Why u keep releasing unbalanced and buggy content while the rest of the game feels rough and rushed ?
I didnt see anyroadmap, do you even know where ur going or just improv the next year ?
I am very tough with this game cuz ppl call it goty and its litteraly, factually not. Marketing did a tremendous job, gamedesigners and devs clearly cant handle the deal for now. Prove me wrong and i will praise u but for now its mostly disappointing :)
Oh btw, i can point u a better season pass ; Deep Rock Galactic's which includes only cosmetics and no microtrasaction, totally free. All the gamplay is unlockable in game.

      @Bossboko 3 месяца назад +1

@@poupipou8496 You really wrote all this just to tell us you suck at helldivers? You could’ve just said that. Finding super credits is easy, I have every single war bond and haven’t spent a cent on micro transactions. Your second paragraph was so poorly written I can hardly understand what you’re trying to say, but the only valid issues you pointed out were nerfs. If you can’t aim, just get better or move to a planet with better visibility, or just try being good at the game. The game does have weapons with varied armor pen, damage, recoil, reload speed, and rate of fire, so I have no idea what you meant with that remark. Helldivers has dozens of mission types on both fronts, geological survey, evacuate citizens, purge hatcheries, search and destroy, and many more. Plus, each mission has tactical objectives that can have huge effects on gameplay, such as spawning unique enemies, jamming stratagems, giving the team more firepower, revealing new map data, and all sorts of other things. The only reason you wouldn’t know about these is because you only played on low level 🤡. As for the major orders/storytelling, the recent meridian major order speaks for itself, unless it was too hard for you and you gave up. It’s keeping plenty of people around 130k people playing while 177 countries are locked out is incredible. The only enemies of this game are Sony, Alexus, and clowns like you who just can’t handle the heat.
Oh btw, a battle pass with only cosmetics and no gameplay function is bland, lazy, and pointless, and all of helldivers content can be unlocked in game too if you possess an ounce of skill.

I’ve been playing Helldivers 2 a lot and it’s loads of fun. But I think I still like DRG more because of the weapon upgrade system.
Helldivers naturally has a much larger variety of cool gear than DRG. But DRG compensates it with the ability to drastically upgrade and mod your guns to suit your playstyle.
Also, DRG is really good at naturally fostering teamwork even with minimal communication.
The extreme amount of friendly fire adds to the charm of the game, sure. But I always get nervous whenever I bring the Fat Boy on a mission in DRG. With Helldivers, I basically get that feeling with half the stratagems I carry all the time.

the problem comparing drg to hd2 is how forgiving hd2 is than drg.
unlimited ammo, heals on command+invulnerability while healing (soemwhat) and 20 respawns if 4 player is a huge boost for the casualest of gamers.
drg there is a certain stress on finding nitra to ensure you aren't empty by the next swarm on higher difficulties and replenished health is finding crystals for the most part.
also my biggest complaint with drg is the difficulty scaling. 3 stars with 4 people is kinda boring, 4 stars it becomes a nightmare if half your friends aren't good at the game, because the game scales both on star and player count, you get this exponential boost. theres no good in-between,
helldivers is the same no matter the player count.
personally i think drg right now is the best pick because there are too many bugs in helldivers2. both are the same amount of fun
but i can see a lot of mechanics in drg like i mentioned earlier that turn off the average player. i know its huge on console xbox players atleast get drg
you can say the glitches are not that bad but its a risk if your game will crash more than others, and there are quite a few jank interactions that get you killed/softlocked way too often. the new camera glitches are happening more and more to my friends. both the one where the ads is stuck and where your camera goes to the sky until you die to respawn. certain damage types don't work as expected meaning you bring an empty stratgem and enemies can shoot you through walls. you'll see people say "its so fun that i still play despite the bigs" well theres people that say that for every game in existence, and coop means you are pressured to play anyway cause what else are you gunna do with your friends?
the rush for new content means no time to thoroughly play test the stuff. the new grenade only works in some missions solo and other times does nothing. very upsetting situation to be in.

I adore ST:E and it's the reason I checked out Helldivers at all. Too bad the game is currently in a pretty slow period, where after the new planet and engine upgrade near the end of 2023, performance has been pretty rough. Luckily though, the game will be getting a massive class, weapon, and objective overhaul relatively soon which should raise interest in the game once again with all the new classes and weapons.

DRG has the best soundtrack (by far) and general sound design. I love the 3D traversal aspect of the caves as opposed to flat open ground. The weapon tuning is spot on. I like that missions are one and done unless you're on a Deep Dive. The side objectives are the most fun of the three games, imo. Teamwork feels more central to DRG.
Helldivers seems to do difficulty scaling better though. Maybe because there are 9 difficulties instead of 5 like DRG, you can fine tune the experience a bit more for yourself.
Haven't played any Starship Troopers, but I've watched gameplay and love the universe. Both DRG and HD2 would be a blast with more players in a match like in Starship Troopers.

  • @DeltaTerraform94
    @DeltaTerraform94 4 месяца назад +6

I think DRG has the most personality of the three and for me personally I think DRG has the most legitimately memorable moments from mission to mission. I may not remember all the maps I've played but that little bit of extra attention you have to pay to traversing the map does cause you to actually remember some of the cave formations which makes the world feel a little bit more impressionable. In Helldivers the direction your traveling next is the only relevant terrain information that you actually have to remember.

Helldivers 2 reviewers have around 100 (I have 130 and still counting), which appears to be quite good for a game which is 1.5 months old at the time of this writing! DRG does differ from the other two in how the player character views their employer.
These dwarves dont really seem to care for their company, they just love their job and their colleagues, but the company? Theyll swear and complain about management at every chance they get.
They do this work out of love of their job, their crew, and gold. None of them would ever shout out "For DRG!", because they dont care for DRG, they dig these mines for themselves, and they shoot these bugs for Karl.

All 3 I think were worth the time and money spent on them, though I think Extermination is probably a skip at this point, unless something magical happens at launch, which I think took to long because HD2 came out before they could do it. The perks, weapons and utilities are perfectly balanced and it has a "Very Positive" rating on steam. They just released a new update for better class balancing, better graphics, and even a new map! The developers are very passionate about this game and that's why its my favorite.
Don't be fooled by this guy, he didn't even get the player count right.

    • @AbbreviatedReviews
      @AbbreviatedReviews  5 месяцев назад

I get that you want people to play the game you like, but anyone can look at the date of this video release and the number of players on Steam Charts and see that the player count is accurate. I don't understand why you'd think that was just made up.
It's stranger still when I clearly portrayed the game positively and mentioned the upcoming changes, some of which were in 0.7, and ended the video stating that when it's complete, it may be the better game.
Starship Troopers Extermination is a good game, but it's definitely still the weakest of the three as of right now. It is what it is, but Offworld had most of a year as a head start and hardly made any meaningful updates until this month. I even highlighted the fact that matchmaking would be a problem in my original review video last year.

    strengh and weaknesses of each
    helldivers 2:
    pros:
-the most bombastic and adenaline-pumping out of the 3
-most varied loadouts, untied to a class system
-community-run campaign makes the game feel alive
-frequent, small additions to the game keep thing fresh
-the fact there is more than one enemy faction leads to the most varied combat (DRG has the Rivals sure, but they are more an addition than a full replacement for the bugs; they dont feel like a fully fleshed second enemy faction, and the rockbox feels more like a gimmickification of the bugs), and fighting each has a completey different vibe from fighting the other
    cons:
-signed a deal with the devil with Sony that will screw it in the long run
-game is currently too big and too successful for arrowhead to handle it properly, especially bugs wise, and the frequent additions to the game dont help
-community-wise, its unstable, as arrowhead's own decisions and the actions of the community managers have set the entire community on fire more than once.
    Starship troopers extermination
    pros:
-the only coop game out of the 3 that can acommodate groups bigger than 4 people, a rarity in the industry
    -the base building is fun
    cons:
-enemies have very little variation, and tend to be bullet sponges wih almost no feedback from your own attacks
-the maps arent procedurally generated, yet dont have the kind of detail that could make that choice superior to procedural generation, leading to run fairly bland maps that are the same mission after mission.
-loadout customization is the most limited of the 3, though this ay be the result of the game still being in early access.
-very few large battles happen out of the player-made bases; it has the most repetitive gameplay of the 3, as you almost always having a fortress to help you face hordes eans most of the action is just being perched high up and shoting bugs till you need to fetch ammo.
-related to the above, the vast majority of enemies cannot deal at all with a player that managed to get on top of a high object (while in DRG enemies can climb any terrain, and in helldivers ranged enemies are plentiful and such terrain is fairly rare, with most of it beign buildings that can be destroyed and never replaced)
    neutral:
-the only one still in early access, so may change a lot in the future.
    Deep Rock Galactic
    pros:
-best maps out of the 3 games, and they are procedurally generated on top, keeping things fresh
-rewards cooperation the most, and the only one that does it even out of combat situations
-has the objectives that bring the most variations to gameplay
-the only game out of the 3 where terrain matters a lot, and can be modified to suit your needs. one could even say the terrain (and lighting) is as much of an obstacle to overcome than the enemies themselves
-friendliest community out of the 3 games
-the most accomodating if you wish to play solo
-best cosmetic system out of the 3 games
    cons:
-progression can be a bit slow, especially since RNG is invloved in getting the overclock you want (though playing for long enough guaratees you will eventually get what you want as you deplete the loot pool)
-is less action-packed since more breathing room is provided to allow players to mine out the caves. Its intense moments are great especially in the harder difficulties (that scale mostly enemy numbers), but it has the most lulls in the action to make room for navigating caves
-deep rock being older (as stated int he video, its the only one of the 3 that has seen a full release, and its been out for years buy now), it lost some steam development-wise with updates becoming less frequent. Its especially blatant with the devs seemingly moving on to newer deep rock themed projects like DRG survival and DRG rogue core.

    • @chester7521
      @chester7521 4 месяца назад +1

DRG Survivor was produced by a different dev team (not even from GSG), but you are right about Rogue Core drawing their attention. However, season 5 of DRG releases in about a month with a boatload of new content, and GSG have said multiple times that they will continue developing the main game, with Rogue Core being an extension rather than a replacement. Once they've finished up with the main development of Rogue Core, I assume updates will speed up again.

Why is DRG better than HD2?
I think the class design and variety of missions in DRG are big strengths that put it ahead of HD2. DRG encourages teamwork and tends to have elegant designs that do more with less. But I think there are 3 factors that make DRG significantly more fun, especially at higher difficulty, than HD2.
    1) You deal a lot of damage in DRG. This means that you are capable of completely clearing waves with sustained attention. There are moments of tension when you fight, and moments that are more chill when you've cleared the waves. In HD2, you do so little damage (except with stratagems gated by cooldown) that you simply cannot kill all enemies on the higher difficulties. If you sit in one place and put all your attention on killing bugs, there will continue to be more and more bugs.
    2) DRG has more interesting terrain. Because the terrain in HD2 is fairly flat and open on almost all maps, you can see bugs coming from very far away, and you tend to have a clear escape route at all times. In DRG, enemies can get very close to you before you see them, and they come from many angles simultaneously including from above and below. You are also more frequently forced to fight in close quarters or on the edge of a cliff where you have no ability to escape.
    3) DRG has enemies which can punish you for not shooting enough. Examples include ranged enemies, flying enemies, and static enemies that shoot you when you run into a new area. You simply cannot run away from these enemies. The only way to deal with them is by shooting. HD2 has some ranged enemies, but they tend to have a very short range and not be very fast.
These factors encourage a very active playstyle in DRG. You will get jumped by bugs and they will get close to you. You have to use your guns to defend yourself constantly. In HD2, you can run away from bugs and if you do, they might not ever catch up. You are punished for shooting (because you can't kill all bugs). So, HD2 encourages a very passive playstyle which can make it feel less like a shooting game and more like a running simulator.

Have not personally experienced many bugs in HD2. After 50+ hours of play I can safely say that it is the most fun I have ever had in a co-op. When buddies and I play together we sit there cackling like loons the entire game 'cause we set someone on fire, or liberty leaped from high terrain or have someone a haircut with a laser rover. It never ceases to put a smile on my face seeing four different explosions going off at the same time as a drop ship lands or a big breach opens.
I played DRG a lot when it came out and have played it off and on over the years since. It's a good game. I've had a couple incredible experiences in it. I have found one thing about it that makes it less enjoyable for me is that I get headaches while playing it. Too many different hud elements and enemies sticking to the ceiling gives me some weird sense of vertigo. I get none of that in HD2, thankfully.
Overall, they're both really good, but I happen to think HD2 is more fun, straight up.

According to word counts, I think I actually talked about Starship Troopers the least, which makes sense given that it has the last content. However, I do like Helldivers 2, but it's not without criticism. The server issues were and still are a real problem, and while I don't think it will be a "dead service" soon, every live service game ultimately will be - which is a universal issue and one we've seen play out many times before. I'll always criticize that aspect of games because, while it offers some fun design options, it means you're buying something that can be taken away from you at the whim of those who keep the servers running.

ALSO WHY ARE THE BUGS ON STARSHIP TROOPERS EXTERMINATION SO SMALL!? in the movie the are represented as gigantic.... now in the game they are average size of an human (from the height).

I don't really see the low player base in STE. I've been addicted since I came back after the class update and no matter what time of day I've been on, the lowest player count match I recall is 14 out of 16. Not hating on DRG (going back to that one next). Hell Divers to called my pc a potato, pushed me down, & took my lunch money so i haven't tried it yet. Which is prolly a good thing because I got stuck on the last part of the original games tutorial xD

HELLDIVERS 2 killed Starship troopers extermination.... Sad but that's what you get with a early access game with 2 map *sigh*

I'd that Starship Trooper's only really big problem right now is a massive lack of content. Half the arsenal is still under development, people really only play Arc Defense, and the galactic war map is not released yet. Granted there are still some other issue but if these particular ones get addressed then the game would improve significantly..

I do hope starship troopers can pull it back, need more games like it, and i'm so glad Helldivers turned out as just brutally awesome as it did, cause ill be honest i did not care for Deep Rock one bit not sure why playing it i could tell it was a good game but there was something about it that just felt bland and soulless to me the entire time i just felt like i was just drifting through the levels was never really invested in any of it, but Helldivers i'm always looking forward to the next match, always looking forward to what is coming next interms of content and update with the war and were Joel will attack next

I’ve played both deep rock and helldivers 2. Deep rock is fun and quirky. I enjoy the helldivers gameplay loop more, though.

Gotta be honest, prefer Starship Troopers and DRG way more then Helldivers 2. Mostly because of the playerbase and them knowing how to cooperatein a co-op game. And Helldivers 2 literally looks so fucking generic with all its enemies.

Starship Troopers definitely has a story. You should read it.

I have read it. That story, the movie story, nor any story of note is in this game.

Extermination runs like shit and it took like 2 minutes to find a match and it was just me and a guy. I don't recommend it.
