Lista and Stanley boxes are the shit! I just picked up my first one, and I’m amazed! I wish I would have known about them before I bought my Matco box.
From a guy who has had the same top and bottom tool box since 1989, I love your ideas, people are always giving away file cabinets, and the pvc, just awesome. Like to see it good work. Money for tools and necessities, not overpriced tool boxes. Great work, keep it up
I have a tech cart and a few file cabinets! I'll definitely be using your PVC tool holder, I originally made a wood one but the pvc will be way better! File cabinets are the unsung heros of tool storage
Bro...huge shout out to you for the power tool holder. That's one of the greatest, yet most simple ideas I've ever seen. You give me hope for the future! Also, by doing things like that you're constantly solving problems and using your head. That's what great mechanics are made of. Keep the videos coming. Hats off to you, my brother 🍻🤜🏻🤛🏻
Good ideas. Thank you. Something you might consider... For the grey plastic tray with the 5 long wrenches, people spray closed cell foam in them to strengthen them and cut the excess foam off so they sit flat.
I thought of that but it seems like it would be annoying when you grab them to use. But I think I’m going to make a way to put them on end of a 30 degree angle.
The power tool holder in the file cabinet is a great idea. I have been using a file cabinet like that for my power tools for years but they have just been tossed in there.
some peg board would work especially if you were making your own drawers you might also use square nuts on top of pipe spacers to get your different sized sockets
Office file cabinets are the Legos/Tinker Toys/Lincoln Logs of storage. Buy 2,3,4,5 drawer standard and horizontal/side pull cabinets in standard 15" or legal 18" widthsfor $5-25 at GoodWill style thrift stores. Group a bank of 2 drawer units with a butcher block laminated top and viola instant work bench. Couple tall 5 drawer units with a bench top bolted between makes a great work bench that can have top and pull down front door added for a closable/lockable bench. Horizontal side pull units in 30, 36, 42, 48 widths make great power tool storage....boxed or bare.... with factory steel sheet dividers adjusted in slot in drawer bottoms to separate power tools. Add power strips, lighting for work benches.
That plier rack is amazing. I have three different type of the pre-made wire type racks, which always seem to be spaced out too small (you grab one item and pull the whole rack out), or too large and the pieces fall over. Your solution solves the issues. I might try to replicate using some old copper tubing or heavy gauge steel wire (suspended ceiling support wire) I have lying around. Gonna find your other video on that. The use of the file cabinets is great too. They are designed for full access and tons of weight, just not immediately useful for tool storage.
Thanks! Yes check out the build video on the pliers rack. I welded it together so if you use copper you might have to braze it. The file cabinet are so useful especially for power tools and blow molded cases.
Great video sir.. very well thought out ideas. Thank you for sharing. I enjoy all your videos and tool box modifications. Out of the box thinking for sure.
Excellent ideas and very well executed. For chargers and anything else you want to stick on vertical metal surfaces you can also use magnets. This will let you move them around as needed and you won't need to cut up your hutch. Amazon has super strong rare earth magnets in a 1/2" diameter metal case with holes through them for mounting on things, they're not expensive and they work perfectly. I even put a few of those on some 4' LED shop lights that I like to move around and use as work lights.
@@backintheshop9604 I tried magnets on my Ryobi 40v batteries and charges, and it killed the internal boards in them. they just stopped working. Maybe look at 2sided velcro or that 3m stuff you can pull off later.
@@backintheshop9604yes you have a point, to me isn’t a strong point. It would take less time than capping a catchup bottle. Specially with labeled sockets, we want to return the socket with label facing out in a common orientation precisely, with square nuts.
Im glad this came up on my feed, i have alot of respect for you! i will be definitely using some of your ideas, because some of my organizers just aren't custom enough for my tools. Either the organizer has too many slots, or too little. With your system it seems like i could have it however i want. Hope the channel goes well, and i'll be subbing, keep up the good work!
Thank you. And welcome to the channel. I was raised making it work with what we had more because of lack of money but it stuck with me and now I have the money but in a lot of ways it’s still more practical to build it yourself and customize it.
Smart , guys I worked with at American airlines in Tulsa Oklahoma , used the old parts been cabinets ( hardware storage ) from the company and converted them to tool boxes , I believe that's the same thing you got there. Heavy duty drawers that are rated for extreme heavy weight ( imagine one of those drawers full of nuts or washers ) Yeah I like the PVC pipe for storing wrenches , I might do that to my box . Thanks for the video .
I tell ya what i done was bought a bag of 200 neodiblium cylindrical magnets that were about an inch tall by 1/4” round. They fit the inside of 1/4 sockets but hold the 3/8 and used 2 for my half inch.. but all i did was take my drawer out, lined it with wax paper and set the magnets where i wanted em and poured a thin 1/8” layer of 2 part clear epoxy, let her dry and peel the wax paper off and worked a dream so far.. holds everything in place. Removable if i get tired of it and only cost me maybe 20$.. only bad part is if youre a metal worker all your shit gets magnetized .. helps on automotive stuff but you go cutting on sometbing and get shavings in there you gotta air hose the stuff out….
I think you could use just a little bit more pliers and Vizegrips, how about it ? 😁 But great job and ideas, I appreciate the socket racks and file cabinet use ! 🙂
I was in Harbor Freight today and saw some organizers for Wrenches. They hold 16 wrenches on an angle and sell for $6.99ea. not a bad price they measured about 16" from top to bottom.
Thanks for the video and ideas. I would put a piece of rubber, wood or something under those batteries. It is not good to sit batteries on metal. I use pieces of Rubber material that is used when we hauled big rolls of paper to keep it from moving. If you have a truck stop , big printing company or a paper manufacturer near you some of the lazy drivers throw it out after delivering. The guys on the docks of the places I delivered to were happy to leave it in the truck( if it their responsibility to clean out the truck ,but must places made us clean the trailer out. I have mostly seen it in 3'x3' squares but have seen it in 2' wide rolls of 10-20'. I use it as drawer liners. 1000 times better than anything I have ever bought. If it will keep a 10-12 thousand pound roll of paper in place you can imagine how it works for tools. Thanks again for the video.
wha is the name of that middle set of cabinets ,......I've never seen any like that but I'd like to find some...great job on those repurposed file cabinets....Ihave a ton of them.
On my tool box the socket drawer I got 1/2 plywood cut to size of drawer lined the sockets the way I want them . Drilled holes same size of the socket. left side inch, right side metric. I did this 30 years ago. One place I worked my boss asked me to straighten up his I told him it took years to get it the way I wanted it.He still wanted me to do it. I flat out said no. I made the pvc drill holder but it's in shop hanging from a shelf. I'm Retired now.

Hi, your pliers are sharp and very organized that’s very creative nicely done, is that dewalt the dcf899? If so how powerful is it? I want a high torque 1/2 Dewalt impact I’ve heard excellent reviews on it, ty, Bob,
The Dewalt high torque really is a great tool. I've been using it lightly for a few years now and it has never let me down. I really prefer my air tools though. But it's nice to have the portability of the cordless sometimes. I also own the Milwaukee high torque and I really can't say that one is better than the other. So if you are a Dewalt guy, I wouldn't hesitate to buy that high torque. That said, both the Dewalt and Milwaukee mid torque impacts are weaker than I thought they would be. I tend to use my AirCat stubby impact wrench the most though. It handles 90%+ of what I do, and it's much more compact and comfortable.
